So when I first started it was difficult to riff/freestyle at first, but when I did my first Feature (on 4/20/2023) I was able to riff and freestyle to the point where I didn't even have to use the material I had planned. (Once you're able to perform your written material with a natural flow, it makes riffing/freestyling so much easier).

Great advice! A good one to add, for me was, "use less words". Aka- use the least amount of words possible to get to the punchline. new comedians often have setups that are far too long and wordy. Word economy and learning about how many words people can take in before tuning out is super useful

@LetsTalkComedy
@LetsTalkComedy Год назад
Thanks for commenting. Being scared is great. Everyone who will be at the gig will also be terrified. The goal, I believe, is to always be terrified. If you're constantly putting yourself out there in and progressing to the next stage then by default you're always going to be nervous. But you'll develop a believe that you can smash it cause of your experience. Get up there, grab the mic and just have fun. Don't worry about making them laugh at the beginning. Sure, do your material, but focus on the experience of being on stage for the first few times. Really try and soak it in and pay attention to as many things as possible. Be sure to drop back and let us know how it goes.

I find that most people don't need to be told to be themselves. In this video I'm giving small pieces of information on very practical ideas. People don't usually watch the entire thing so even if they only watch a small piece they'll leave with something they have most likely thought of before only coming from another persons point of view. Just trying to lay out the ground work as clear as possible really without saying general meaningless sentences like ''be yourself'' Thanks for commenting.
