I have an earlier version of this that only goes to 1080p but I have it on the output of my Roku Ultra and it captures/passes that signal just fine. Also works with my Sony Blu Ray player. I think I bought it back in 2019 for around $160 or so on Amazon.
I tried several things while testing the Roku and Blu-ray player including swapping out HDMI cables and running the signal through myTESmart splitter (HDCP compliant, unfortunately). The only way I was able to get a signal from the Roku or Blu-ray to the UHD Pro was by looping it through a Digitnow standalone device, and this added it's own overlays with battery indicator, source selector, and timecode. Some HDMI splitters on the market will strip HDCP from a signal, and I just ordered one for a future video! Thank you for the comment.
Any signal with DRM will not record, but on some devices the 4k signal will pass through. If you set the Roku to 1080P it will probably record. It does with the device I have.
Thank you for your videos, they are very informative. I have a vhs/dvd combo that outputs via HDMI and I use the ClonerAlliance UHD Pro to capture vhs tapes from it. Do you think capturing this way would produce better quality videos than say using the ClonerAlliance ViewLite AV and using RCA cabling? I think I'm asking if the quality of the conversion within the combo to the digital HDMI signal is better than what the ViewLite AV does with RCA signals. Many thanks.
Could you report back what the specs of the audio are in the final product file? The part 'capture file specs' ended without displaying the audio specs. And can those audio settings be saved only as .wav/mp3 or must it only record the audio within .mp4 file? Thanks for your response!
The only records audio as part of a MP4 video file. There are multiple programs that can rip audio from video files. Here is the media info for the Audio portion of the file for one of the clips I captured. I also wondered, with those audio specs, is 125-192kbps variable the quality for every file this device creates or can the audio capture settings be set to a higher bitrate such as 320 or higher? I am aware AAC can go higher than 320kbps unlike MP3. I so believe this may be the best video capture device I have come across but I only wish it could record to .wav files or at very least be able to increase its AAC bitrate, then it would be perfect. I know how to extract audio from video but I worry about doing so as its a lossy format at a mid range bitrate, another conversion to MP3 would downgrade its quality further unfortunately. I would love to see your review of the ClearClick Video to Digital Converter 3.0 (Third Generation) .WAV recording ability. Or if you know of other video capture devices that also capture audio in high bitrates or wav/.flac formats. Let me know. Thanks!
No. Most VHS players only output a component signal (yellow RCA). This device only accepts HDMI as an input. Also the resolution of VHS is MUCH lower than 4K.
