Your video was very informative and well done. Your personality is pleasant, and you are very knowledgeable. I appreciate you taking the time to post this.
Man!!! This was good! Clear, descriptive and your diction is crisp! I came here because my wife ordered standard coating and I ordered premium coating before I knew the difference. I almost got mad from the difference in cost, but what you explained is exactly what I need and wanted on my lense. Crisis averted! LOL
I've had my Crizal Sapphire lenses for about three years now and they're still going strong, although I need to change them not because they're not functioning properly anymore; but because my powers have changed so I need to get a new pair. Crizal Sapphire coatings are pretty expensive, but when you compare them to other standard AR coatings, you'll see that the price to quality ratio is good because they're going to last you a really long time with nearly no decrease in quality.
Woooooowwww. This guy is clear, concise, and easy to listen to. You can tell he really knows what he's talking about. New sub. Edit: Gopd to know my glasses are premium (as i thot)...thx Lenscrafters lol
Ok. I read some comments below and it's unanimous. You need a side gig. Do videos or podcasts or SOMETHING. You have a great personality, voice and very well spoken. Kept my attention the whole time. You have a gift. Do something with it! Great video. Thanks! :)
Definitely getting oleophobic for my next pair because I wear a lot of lotion and do have greasy hair sometimes. My sister is gonna get it for my niece's next pair too for that and her fingerprints.
Ha, I just happened to find your video when deciding between hydrophobic vs oleophobic. Since the latter includes standard + hydro + oleo, decided to go with it and placed by order before your video ended. Thank you!!
great informational. wish i had found you sooner, but now have more information in my arsenal when arguing over my 2 year old very expensive crackled computer glasses! thanks
Thanks! Your presentation is very informative! It really helped me understand why my new PAIR glasses with anti reflective coating & blue light protection reflect the blue light from my computer screen and cellphone. I used Zenni before, with the same features (of course not the awesome design & versatility, & quality) and got no blue reflection. I interpret for patients all day via VRI. Sad to see they can't see my eyes that well, but glad I am protected. Since I have far & near sightedness, my prescription is complicated. I need them on all day. It would be great if you evaluated this Shark Tank winner brand! Love them!
You don't need blue light filter to protect your eyes, the light of the sun itself has much more blue light, it's what keep your your day/night cycle in sync. Blue light filter is just to help you sleep better, but you have to use it only at night. And you can also turn on night shift mode on your devices and avoid bright white lights before bed.
I was told by an optometrists assistant that when it comes to blue blocking ar, they are practically all the same with different branding in 2019. I can hardly find any reviews for Hoya Recharge. I'm concerned it might not be good enough for my time at the computer. Have you had any friends that had it on their blue blocking lens? Can you maybe talk about it or comment on it?
Correct, blue light blocking coatings all reflect blue light, they don't filter it. I have yet to find a blue light coating that I'm happy wearing all day. I'd rather have blue light filtering inside the lens.
Eye Influence they also advised of that. Of lens types that absorbed instead of reflect. For example, shamir blue zero or something like that, is built into the very lens itself. I am enjoying my new glasses so far. The recharge is helping a lot more than my previous pair, but I'm afraid I may want filtering inside the lens more than the deflect.
Great video, clear and valuable. I wonder have you looked at frames/lenses for open-top cars. I have a small sports car and wear prescription polarised wrap-around bolle sunglasses. These are great for almost everything except for when I put the ‘top’ down. The sunlight gets behind the lenses and makes vision difficult (especially when driving in dappled sunlight). Wearing a baseball hat or a cool flat cap like yours 😆 solves the problem however I don’t always want to wear a hat (which also have a habit of blowing off). I would welcome any ideas. Maybe this could be the subject of a future video. Many thanks. Kenn
how do we distinguish between the standard and premium coating once we make the purchase for a 'premium' lens? How do i make sure that it is indeed Premium? EDIt: also thank you for your video. No one else on youtube puts it as well as you did here. Thank you.
I've tried both brands over the years and I have to say they are pretty much equal. Much like Toyota and Honda, Crizal and Zeiss make similar products with the same level of quality.
Thanks for making such a video... You did say you are using that Crizal Alize lens but doesn't that have a green colour effect at certain angles? I'm not seeing that with yours which I really like. Was it a feature you told them not to include so as to not get that green colour? The Crizal Prevencia has a purple colour which I am not too fond of.
I think it has more to do with the position of my lighting than the AR itself. I try to place the lights at such an angle that it limits the amount of reflections. My coatings does have a bit of Greenish hue to it, it's just not too noticeable on the video. As for prevencia, I'm not a big fan. I own a pair and I would only suggest that for low blue light blocking computer glasses. I couldn't wear lenses with that coating all day. It had way too much color on it. Thanks for watching! Have an awesome day.
So, when buying eyeglasses, should I say premium A.R coating ? Is that it ? Or ? I bought mine today. They asked me to have some features, like transition , A.R Coating , but didn’t ask me Standard or premium, so they probably gave me the Standard . But, next time when buying eyeglasses, I know what to say, I’ll say “ Premium’
Should I get Pristine coating instead of the Hard coating in my next pair? The Pristine cost £20 more... I live in London so need the best hydrophobic coating...
Yes. Especially when you need to not only reduce moisture on the lenses but also be able to wipe the lenses clean quickly. Lower end coating may say they have hydrophobic layers but they are a pain to clean. I suggest going for the best AR coating you have available.
Thanks 😊 for the great 👍 video and information, i drive a bus 🚎 when the sun 🌞 is going down and continue until 🕑 2am , which AR coating do you recommend for me?
Hi Oliver, Does the Xperio UV polarized lenses offer full anti-reflective coating on both sides of the lens or do they just offer glare reduction and you'll have to get an AR coating on top of it?
For sunglasses you'll want to avoid AR on both side. Backside only is the way to go. The Xperio UV polarized lenses have NO AR automatically included. You'll have to request it when you have your glasses made. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
I've wondered why some people's glasses reflect green while the others reflect purple. Especially in this age of Zoom, when long meetings are spent staring at others on a computer.
I just received my eyeglasses and blue light glare is intense. To be honest I had no idea it would cause a hue and just ordered it because the lady convinced me. I will be going back to get them replaced because I get a blue haze that intense. Im just confused about the colorless AR. Should I go back and ask for a Crizal Alize or just Colorless anti-reflective?
So sorry for the late reply. By default, premium AR coatings will have very little color. I'm a big fan of the Crizal Sapphire 360 and the Shamir glacier. Very little color and super durable.
Love this video. I just got a new prescription for my Burberry frames two days ago. My Rx is for computer/reading with blue blocking light (higher end) with anti-reflective coating. I'm on Zoom calls all day and notice there is a noticeable bad reflection on my lenses in meetings. The reflection of my laptop screen are on my lenses. After that happened, I've read online that if you are on Zoom calls all day, it's best to not have blue blocking light lenses. I have 3-4 weeks to change my mind on lenses with where I got my glasses. Do I remove the blue blocking and just get AR lenses (Crizal 360)? With my old pair with blue blocking light lenses (one version older than the new ones), I do find they help with eye strain. I get less eye fatigue. Perhaps the size of lenses in my old pair of glasses are slightly smaller that the reflection wasn't so prominent but the Burberry frame lenses are VERY noticeable as the lenses are slightly bigger. Many thanks again for your time!
I ordered a pair of glasses without an anti-reflective coating from Coastal and I couldn't stand the glare on the backside of the lenses! I had to exchange them for a pair with an anti-reflective coating which worked really well but their anti-scratch coating sucked and was much worse than Zenni's
I’m getting ready to get my new glasses and I planned on getting all the upgrades. If I get a premium AR lens would I still need to get the anti scratch add on or the ultraviolet coating . I have Davis Vision and this is my 1st time with them.
I've checked a few places and unfortunately most online shops don't carry a good variety of premium AR coatings. EZContacts carries the entire Crizal coating line but that's about it. In order to get a full range of options you might have to visit a local store. Companies like Crizal, Zeiss and Shamir and pretty faithful to physical locations so they give them priority. I'm sure it's just a matter of time before we see them online. What I can say is many places will use the term "premium" or "superior" when describing their coatings but they are really just standard coatings. I'll do more research on online options and get back to you if I find more choices. Thanks for the support!
Do not use alcohol, Acetone or pre moistened towelettes. Dish soap is good (don't use anything with moisturizers) and don't fog it up with your breath. :)
@@EyeInfluence I actually emailed Essilor with this question, and this is their response, "The only dishwashing liquid we recommend consumers use on their Ophthalmic Lenses is Dawn (non concentrated)." I bought a 25 oz bottle for $2.00. That should last me for a very long time. I was very surprised that they only recommended one dish soap, but I've been using it and it has been great. As far as cleaning goes, they simply said to rinse the lenses under running warm (not hot) water first (to remove any debris), rub the lenses on both sides with that particular dish soap, rinse the soap off, then dry the lenses with a microfiber cloth (like what comes with the lenses). I take this a step further by only using cold water (they still come clean), and blowing the remaining water off of the lenses (so nothing touches them). I thought it would help to post the official cleaning method recommended by that lens manufacturer.
Just bought a new pair of glasses (CR-39 - RT +.5 / LT +1.5) with the prevencia coating as I am on digital screens for 10 plus hours a day. Have been told to only wear plastic lens due to my prescription. I knew going in that I would have the violet reflections from the front side but I am having issues with the backside of the lens. When light hits the back of the lens I am getting JJ Abrams violet lens flare. It's mostly in my peripheral vision but it's very distracting. Have been told to give it time although I don't know how that will resolve the issue. It seems to me the back side has more violet reflections than the front. Any input would be most welcome. Thanks
It’s the prevencia coating. It’s for that same reason that I don’t like to wear lenses with that type of coating. You may want to look into filtering blue light on the lens level and not on the coating level. Look into Shamir Blue Zero or BluTech lenses. Those are better choices.
@@EyeInfluence Hi. I tried Gunnar Cruz glasses with the clear lens. I thought the glare reduction was good, but I look at a screen at work with a white wall behind me and I had a lens flare just to the right of my right eye, similar to Mr. Paul's experience. Would a different type of lens really make a difference? Thanks in advance.
Hello! Thanks for all this informations. I've an question about Zenni eyeglasses. They have Standard Advanced Premium So when you go with Trivex material you're limited to Advanced coating, so is it good enough? And details would be helpful.
Yes, but it depends on how often you clean your glasses and with what solution. For example, if you clean your glasses with cleaner that has alcohol, the coating will break down quickly. Soap and water is a great way to clean glasses and drying them with a microfiber cloth will reduce scratching. Durability will also depend on the quality of coating. Crizal Sapphire should last 2-3 years without noticeable deterioration. Other brands like Zeiss and Shamir also make high end, and very durable, coatings.
Can I send my vision prescription from Australia to you in the U S. to be made up? If so: What are the things I must consider? BTW... Great sales pitch and description of options available. I would love to speak to a representative.
What coatings do you recommend for real GLASS lenses? I want to get Zeiss Glass Lenses. What's the best premium anti-reflective coating as of 2024 for Zeiss? Should I get the hydrophobic and oleophobic coating too or will they wear off over time? Thank you.
Any updates on this topic? I'm looking at getting new glasses soon.. one for daily use and driving and one for computer use (I spend 12+ hours a day on a computer.) I have a lot of light sensitivity. I can't decide what's best for each. It seems like Sapphire 360 or Prevencia for my computer but maybe Sapphire 360 is not a good choice? Can you help?
You said that green hue is residual reflection ryt??? 7:16 ,i see the reflection of tube light or box light at front of glasses especially when they are back at me as a line of green and box of green sp irritating 😢😢😢😢
Hey great informative video! I have to do my new glasses early on. what would you say are the best lenses between Zeiss and Essilor? specifically referring about Crizal or DuraVision Platinum and between Prevencia or BlueProtect. Thank you
To be quite honest, at this point they are just about even. I wouldn’t recommend going for a blue light AR coating, instead, I would suggest looking into essilor essential blue lenses. They filter blue light in the lens and not through a coating. Then you can add the AR of you choice on top of that. In the next year or two blue light AR will be a thing of the past. It will all be done in the lens. Hope this helps. :)
Do you think AR coating helps with the white lights from cars? I was thinking on getting the blue blocking together with the AR because driving has become a pain specially with this new bright awful white lights, but also every device I use including my tv are bothering me specially at night. I had LD bulbs at home and had to change them all to warmer ones because I felt my brain was frying.
Hi. my age is 26 (Male) from India. My distance vision error is -0.75 . I going to wear glasses first time. I have to wear glasses for full day. I am studying. Also, like every person I use mobile, laptop and watch TV. These are my requirments:- 1. I want clear visibility, sharp and natural colours like which we get from healthy naked eyes but I don't want yellow or blue or green hue/ tint. 2. I want glasses which are highly Scratch-Resistant, Anti-Reflective, Anti-Dust & Anti-Smudge and last longer life. First i had decided to buy crizal Prevencia lens but then I read online that it has bit yellowish hue/tint, so i cancelled it. So, please suggest me which lens should I buy Crizal Sapphire 360 UV 1.56 index or Ziess DuraVision Platinum 1.56 index or any other model? (It Should be branded but not be very costly).
My last purchase of glasses included anti reflective coatings from Costco. I hate them. Always smudged, hard to clean, and I never felt like they were actually clear. Had blue light coating as well. I have macular degeneration and am trying to optimize what I have. Going to buy one pair with Crizal but can't afford sunglasses and reading/computer glasses with expensive coating. My impression is that I would rather forgo the anti reflective as opposed to getting the last two with cheaper coatings. Thoughts? Thanks.
Ugh. That's always a tough one. Personally, I would rather go without sunglasses than have to tolerate a low quality AR coating. That would annoy me. If money is tight, maybe splitting the purchases up is a good idea. Get your most needed glasses now and get the second pair next year. Or, if you have a set of prescription sunglasses already, hold onto them for another year instead of upgrading. You can always ask your eye doctor if your prescription changed enough to merit upgrading the sunglasses.
I just got my new glasses that has Crizal Sapphire HR Clear coating but when I take a photo of my self I still get the glare from the flash or studio light. Is this normal situation?
Does the coating only go on certain brand of lens? Like is Crizal only going to be put on an Essilor lens? Or could it be put on another brand of lens?
Nikon isn't a big player in the lens industry. Most of the innovation comes from companies like Essilor (parent company of Crizal), Zeiss, Shamir and Hoya. Any specific coatings from Nikon that you're thinking about getting?
@@EyeInfluence Thank you for the reply! This time I am getting the basic HCC one. There is a huge price difference between the anti blue coating from Nikon and Centennial; about 260 vs 120 CAD. Not sure if the cheaper Centennial worth a try...
Hi Eye Influence, can I ask for your expertise and do you know what blue light filter lenses have most clear look (most have yellowish tint)? I'm really annoyed by that as I'm designing on computer and sometimes I can't see right hex.
Gunnar has 4 lens options and one of them is called Crystaline. It has almost no color but the blue light filter is also really low. Felix Gray and Pixel offer 50% BPF and their lenses are virtually colorless. You should give them a try. Hope this helps. Thanks for reaching out.
Avoid all cleaning solutions with alcohol, don't use windex, don't use pre moistened towelettes and clean the glasses with running water. It may not be possible to do all these things all the time but all of this helps.
For zeiss glass 1.9 refractive index lenses. Would you recommend any of the coating options? They offer super et, gold et and gold and super filter. Thanks
I was looking at buying glasses online, can you tell me which company makes the best protective coating. I was looking at eyebuydirect, they have the EBD blue, is this anygood? And is there any driving glasses that block night light glare from oncoming cars? Those yellow lenses don't work for me, thanks
It's really hard to say which company has the best quality AR coating since they all call it something different. If you could find an online company that uses Crizal, Zeiss or Shamir then it's easier to make a suggestion. I like the Shamir Glacier and the Crizal Sapphire coatings but those are usually only found through your local optical shop. As for night glare you may want to try a pink or rose color tint with an AR coating on top of that. Again, you may have trouble finding an online retailer willing to do custom work so you may end up having to visit your local optical store. I hope this helps. thanks for reaching out.
@@EyeInfluence Yes, you are correct, they only use a standard AR coating, I just talked to them, I look at the computer all day, so I'm thinking I should pay for the best I can get, and I guess for the price they're charging, I should have known. Thanks for your help
