When your fav channel makes a video on cable management the day you finish to paint the new standing desk and start to look for cable managements tips ... priceless 👍
I agree! Desks with nothing on it are for show. I keep mine cleaned up and organized but during the day when I’m getting things done, it looks worked on.
I'm a person who does cable management for a living w/ hifi systems, automation systems, and other fun-such, and I'm a big guitar pedal nerd. I appreciate this type of content. Cable management for the win. Thank you!
I just discovered this channel and I must say, the color grading is insanely satisfying to look at. Plus all the dark tones of the wall and furniture, it's just *chef's kiss*
That cable management was so satisfying in the end. This will surely help me a lot when I get a PC and a standing desk setup in future. So kudos for the headstart. ✅💚
Thanks for the honesty. I have a music + video home studio so cables are everywhere and adding each day. I did a search on cable management on RU-vid and all of them were a joke to the amount of cables I deal with everyday.
Thank you thank you thank you for keeping it real. I have 3 monitors, 3 external drives, mouse charger, speakers, external USB hubs and I'm struggling to see how to do this and get it with no cables hanging at all. I needed to see this video.
Have been deep in this process for the last few weeks, have now got multiple hard drives velcro’d to the bottom of the desk and cables for two computers and a console all routed. Also picked up those roller blade chair wheels based off the other vid - SO GREAT! The difference in noise is amazing!
Becki excellent video overall with simple logical approach... With that being said there are three hypertechnical points... 1) UPS is an acronym for Uninterruptible Power Supply ( you said "Uninterrupted" at 4:45 ) ... 2) Ideally UPS runtime (i.e. no power) should provide a minimum of 90 minutes at full load based upon total of manufactures' maximum watts or voltage amps for each piece of equipment powered. This allows for additional equipment to be added and the recharging of such items as iPhone, iPad and other low powered devices during extended black outs in areas with generally good power (i.e. 2 or less loss of power per year). In areas with more loss of power events one should consider an UPS that has 50% reserve power based upon full load. This allows for multiple power events with reduced UPS recharge time... 3) From a strictly old school purist point of view... I would run power (AC) cables in separate bundle from interface cables (i.e. HDMI, network, et al). Once again thank you for some excellent content...
Excellent video. I’ve watched a lot of RU-vid videos on cable management and this one is one of the best! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and setup. I get so much inspiration from you and Chris. Cheers!
@@BeckiandChris absolutely! I've been binging your videos, very inspiring, and I'm glad Chris is ok. My shoot space is tiny but hopefully one day this will change, you've given me so many ideas.
Thank you, thanks you, thank you! This is the only video about cable management that addresses UPSes(?) You’re so on point about all these beautiful yet unrealistic set ups. All these RU-vidrs who use their machines to edit their videos with no UPS. Sure, if you are using a laptop, it’s got its own battery so no loss there, but what about the monitor and powered accessories? My cables are tidily organized but I still need to do a second pass at it.
Been waiting for a video on cable management, this ticked all the boxes. Moving house in a few weeks and I want my desk looking neat and tidy and organized because right now, its a bomb site. So I'm dreading that but this video made it look easier and less stressful, thanks for the help!
Speaking from experience from doing the exact same thing… Be careful with the double-sided adhesive ("Velcro"). If you're sticking things upside-down that generate heat, it will weaken over time, and the "glue" will start melting. For a more secure seal, separate the two sides, and firmly press/roll it onto each surface as if you're applying packing/duct tape.
This was my only feedback, that "tape" when applied to items which generate heat, will loosen and come apart, recently had a router fall after being installed in this manner.
just the thing i was working on .. cabel management is so important and it a another topic itself to learn .. Absolutely right about that .. a professional video editor doesnot hv those minimalist setups like they show on instagram 😂.
This video felt like an intervention and I love it. My current standing desk cable management is atrocious even though I’m using Gorilla tape and velcro everywhere. Might be time for me to fix this half-assed mess!
You can never have enough UPS!!! I'm currently running on 2x 3KW, 2x 1.5KW, and a couple of 550W UPSes - remember to replace them batteries every 2-3 years!!!
Chris is lucky he has that FPV workspace... I have my PC, 2 monitors and all my FPV stuff on one desk. Definitely not minimal, very messy but I love it
Great! The less cables you route together, the better, because of interference. You can hide all the storage inside the closet and you can even hide the Mac inside the closet if you get a long enough thunderbolt cable (LTT did this a while ago). Also, with some electrical work you can hide the UPSes somewhere else and have them connected to the power outlets behind the desk.
Finally someone did a perfect cable management desk setup. And yes Instagram is not real they may look good but not practical. and please instead of using that clamp light behind the monitor use philips hue bar.
I couldn’t use a bar because I needed the light to be in the center of the monitors, and the monitors are at angles. Clamp light was best solution for what I had going on.
Oh I hope I forget this video before I get back from vacation. My desk wiring is horrible and you’ve inspired me to clean it up but the last time I was under my desk I got hit in the face by the network switch I was mounting there. Not sure I’m ready to brave it again.
Pro tip: if you have standardized cables such as pc power cables and monitor cables, you can buy replacements at different lengths. When I redid my home theater, I reduced 400ft of cable down to 50. Way easier to manage.
You should try ditching 2 monitors and go to one large 49in. It’s better ergonomically and you will have a hard time using two monitors ever again. For video editing, imagine that timeline going all the way across too 😉
There's software bundled with those UPSs that when configured will softly shut down your PC/Mac. Great for when you're not around to do it. Also, I absolutely love that office colour palette. I have no talent for picking colours so I'll be copying this office when it the time to renovate.
FYI, Update the OWC Thunderbolt 3 dock with the USB C version. The throughput is much quicker. And most arrays can be updated by swapping out for larger drives. But I usually choose to buy a new array and "move" into it.
