I just love your design aesthetic. It's that unique mix of minimalist and cozy that's hard to replicate without going too much towards the extremities of either spectrum. Grovemade and Logitech shit rocks!
🙌🏽 I find it interesting that you sketch out thumbnails. I wonder if you’ve covered this somewhere before. I usually capture/think of mine during production. Also: that candle shot 👌
I do! Not for the vlogs, I’ll usually just shoot something while we’re out but if I’m doing something more specific like a series, or I want text then I’ll sketch! Even some photos I take I’ll sketch too!
My desk is only as tidy as yours when I’m seriously procrastinating! Wow, super clean space! My old boss used to say “A tidy desk is a sign of a chaotic mind”, implying that he could sort out his chaos in his head?! It has a bit of logic, but still a fairly lame excuse if you ask me 😂 In my case I’m fully aware that the chaos in my head simply extends into my studio! And as soon as I tidy it I can’t find anything anymore 😅
I just switched to a 38" ultrawide screen and now I reeeeeally want a desk shelf to go with it. Clearly buying a house with a large enough garage to have as a workshop and then all the tools will be cheaper than buying the Grovemade one.
I honestly want such a desk setup in my new RU-vid workspace, am about to relocate to a new place so I still thinking about the make over, painting and all...then this deal setup definitely must hit the jackpot😂😂 Thanks becki
Becki also use MX Keys and Mice (keyboard normally talking to both Mac and PC) whilst I keep MX master 3 for PC, MX Anywhere 2 on Mac, and Apple trackpad just for the gestures. Only use two mice as working on two devices at the same time and the switch is on the bottom, so faster to have two mice.
I have the MX Keys (Win/Mac) and the MX Master 3 and absolutely love them both. Being able to connect both to three different computers is such a huge benefit as I have a foot planted in both the Windows and Mac worlds for software development. The only minor gripe I have is with the "smart illumination" on the keyboard. I feel like I'm waving "hello" 👋 to my keyboard most of the day.
Well, it turns out we have comically similar desk set-ups. I have sworn by the MX Keys/Master 3 combo for the past year and a half, to the point I even bought myself a second of each to use at work (school teachers didn't work from home for too long sadly). Any other mouse just feels weird at this point. Thanks so much for the upload, love to see all this!
I just got this mouse/keys combo for Mac this year and they've been incredible. On the mouse I customized one of the thumb buttons to be the blade tool in FCPX and it's a game changer. It's kind of a no brainer to go with this combo over the default Apple setup purely based on the customization options it gives you, I love it so much.
Yes, the charging point on that mouse may be better placed than the Apple one BUT they still put the Easy-Switch button on the underneath! So if you use multiple devices for your work you need to pick it up and turn it over! Which is mental as the M590 has the same switch ability but the button is next to the trackwheel so super easy to use!
Why are desk videos so dam satisfying, also if Chris wants another nerdy topic to get into he should check out mechanical keyboards they're so similar to fountain pens, though Becki if you are reading this warning he could get really obsessed with this topic really quick so word of warning before you tell him about it.
I’ve watched about 6 videos of your now after doing homework. I’m feeling really great and inspired. I know you said having a dedicated space is unnecessary in your spare bedroom set up from a video from 2017, but as I’m in a two bedroom with my wife and son, I had the idea of using a shed instead. But I have to ask, how much did that Mac run you?
Have you tried a mechanical keyboard? there is something so satisfying about them, they feel amazing and also have the ASMR vibe too. It's a rabbit hole I wouldn't even attempt to suggest ones to try out but I think you would love the aesthetics too. Try some different switches too, my favourite are cherry red's they improved my typing and I was already high level. Love the videos as always, you guys are GOALS
Awesome! I really really recommend Rhodia notepads, the paper is glorious, I like to keep one on my desk so I can quick scratch ugly notes or reminders to myself without messing up my “good” notebooks!
I have one suggestion as a tech nerd, your HDs should be raised up so they're not directly on the floor, it'll prevent a lot of extra dust etc from coming in and ageing your hardware faster. And if you ever have flooding or spill a bunch of water on the floor, they wont get wet :D Great vid as always
Thanks! I was going to build a shelf for it but I thought the chances of me knocking it/pulling it to the ground with my foot was higher than a floor or spill. Maybe I’ll reconsider!
This is a nice insight, but also some useful tips for a lot of people, probably. I'll definitely try hiding my phone more often with a DND timer on. I need to get that Muvment anti-fatigue standing mat, the rollerblade casters, and the wireless charging pod. And here's a tip in return - magnetic charging cables for the mouse and keyboard, something like the Volta charging cables, and that way you can snap the mouse/keyboard onto the cable to charge if you need to, and can easily detach when you want to. ~ Jamie (the other Jamie, not the same as last time)
Looks amazing. Totes gonna grab that mouse (currently using the Logitech MX Anywhere, which was also great). Also, when your Logitech sponsorship ends, we need to get you hooked up with a nice mechanical keyboard. You’ll never go back ;)
Picked up a new desk lamp that has been a game changer for editing at night. Being able to change the brightness and colour temp is soooo handy. No clue how I edited with no other room lights for so long haha.
Awesome space! Me and my wife are always so inspired by your interior videos. Would you be willing to show us a video with how are you organizing your notetaking/to-do list? My wife is a freak anout this and we would looove to learn some cool tricks from you. Greetings from Poland. :)
Grovemade products are great! I am a big fan of Vari Standing desks but any adjustable desk is a must now. Love the setup and 100% agree a good space means you can get more done.
Nice! Very nice setup, I'm using all the same tools for work (except the speakers). To get fully rid of cables (I hate cables :) ), you can use Qi to charge your new gen AirPods.
We expect a new mini Mac by the end of the year. Yes, it won't have SD card reader too, so your device remains here. What do you do with old sketch books? I have a pile of them, and I feel they still have a value. Maybe I need somehow digitize them and then dispose. Did you tell about speakers? I think there deserve to be uncovered.
I (Kelley) have the mouse and love it. Great set up I need to get the Thunder Bay just lost an external drive a few weeks ago. Lucky I have a computer friend who saved it.
Thanks for the video, very interesting to know different setups, the first thing I went to buy was the chair wheels (I already own all the logitech keyboard and mouse) ;)
I love that setup. Unfortunately I can't use Mac on the store computer. I might have to make a separate one for starting RU-vid. Although for that I have to learn a lot :-) thanks for such great ideas. I like it.
I needed this video much!! My work from home area is trash!! I'm as unorganized as a ( what's the most unorganized thing you can think of). It stresses me so much I don't know where to start. Good thing I go into the office 3 days a week, so my wfh area is not always in my face.😫
Ah man that sucks! It’s so overwhelming to start, I usually watch tons of videos for motivation and then set aside a day to tackle! You will feel so much better when it’s all done! 😊
Becki: smells like delicious men in the woods. Chris: *walks in with plaid, axe, and lumber for the next carpentry project.* Becki: *takes whif* *famous Becki zoom in face*
The MX keys and master 3 is such a crazy combo being able to switch through different devices. I have it pared with my iPad Pro as well as another computer and the versatility is very nice. Love the contract of the desk top for the monitors with the table top and walls. Hmm I need to look into candles for the smell goods haha 🤔
Terrific video and Gear! If you don't mind, can I ask you what kind of lense were you using on the a6400 when filming yourself? That dept of field is awesome!
Oh, I have desk envy. I needed ideas for something that looks aesthetic but where I could put all my memory cards and knickknacks. Thanks so much, Becki. It looks gorgeous!
I really love the mx master mouse and love the charging port position. At work I use the magic mouse or whatever by apple and it sucks when it dies without a warning because then I can't do anything. Love a good dest setup. Love it
Wow. Just wow. Btw guys, can you make a video solely on exposing slog2/3? I have tried watching other tutorials and I couldn't understand much. So if you guys could do one, it would be helpful. Thanks.
