We wrap-up Buffalo Bills mandatory minicamp with who we thought stood out as well as a couple concerns. We also give our impressions of Keon Coleman, and discuss the injury situation.
Elam is a good ball player. If you ever played for a coach who just doesn't like you, it sucks. I played baseball for a manager who just didn't like me. I didn't start and when I got in I played right field, and batter 9th. Change of manager following year, batted 3 And played short stop. It makes a difference
Two dropped in your hands touchdown passes by Cook agains the Eagles and Dolphins are in my mind forever. I am like WTF dude. Everyone says you're a great receiver. Plus, he apparently dropped a few in OTAs.
@@ronintsukebin9163 They are both excellent receivers, the highlight reel testifies to that, ad infinitum. That's why I "don't" focus on a few drops. Yeah, the timing sucks, but it happens... Just my humble opinion
@@SeanL-jw9rr Never ever saw a receiver drop two beautifully thrown passes for sure touchdowns in one season. And then they were saying he was dropping passes in OTAs. Hey, there is nothing wrong with pointing out a player's weak points.
@@ronintsukebin9163 I get that, just saying that the bad timing is happenstance. Both players have a decent receiving history and because some drops were in bigger moments, I think some people ascribe too much meaning to them. Nothing wrong with pointing that out either...
@@SeanL-jw9rr Look, I like Cook a lot and feel he is a great addition to the team. Just saying we need to to be critical at times. This is especially because all I hear was that he was a great receiver out of the backfield but that is realistically not the case. I know Josh Allen doesn't forget those two drops.
You didn't touch on the safety situation. With Edwards sidelined and really a #3 more than a #2, I'm concerned about this position group by far the most.
Definitely one of the weaker spots on our roster. Wonder if they will make any moves there with the Tre cap space. I imagine they plan on drafting a rookie next year to develop with Bishop, and I'm fine with that, but you're right, safety is a position I wouldn't mind reinforced...
I think we will be fine. Edwards will be back, and with Rapp and Bishop, we have 2 starters ready to go. In addition, Hamlin has been playing well (although he's not my first choice).
@@mathieuguillet4036 I'm not a fan of Hamlin's, and yeah, I'm not overly worried about our secondary. I just think it will take one more year to really solidify into that kind of nightmare secondary McD is well known for creating, lol. We already have the big physical corners, 'Sul (6'2), Benford (6'1), Elam (6'2), one of the very best nickels in the game (Taron), ...and a future stud in Bishop. Now I think Rapp is awesome for a temporary starter piece, and an excellent option to have as a 3rd on-field safety (I believe he especially excels in this position when he's given that instinctual freedom to roam) and so I'm thinking that really McD and Beane are just waiting to draft a stud rookie FS to groom with Bishop into the next great safety tandem. And I think signing Edwards was very smart. You can NEVER have enough "quality" depth. And Edwards is a player you can feel comfortable throwing in for 5 or 6 weeks, God forbid Bishop or Rapp go down for a good spell. Seriously smart move on the organizations part.
And people are wondering whether Cole Bishop will start, or even Keon Coleman for that matter, lol. Unless these gents just somehow can't get down the playbook, or barring injury, ...given that the Bills are in a transitory year where they're still trying really hard to make a SB run with ALL the pieces they can, and, yep, I'm going to say that both Cole and Keon will be on the field very first play, and will be there until they either crash and burn, or rise and shine. I think it's gonna be a kinda desperate, slug-fest, ugly fighting type of year. Bills are going to need to play all the cards they have. At least in this couch fan's humble opinion... And I still think despite the tough division and schedule, we could make a 12 win run, and I believe we make the playoffs at minimum. The AFC East is definitely better ALL around, and I don't know if many Bills fans have been paying attention to that aspect very much. And I hate to even say it but in all honesty, playing the Jets with a healthy Aaron Rodgers is wayyy different than playing them without. It's almost on the same level as if we had Josh on the bench and Mitch leading the way. So not night and day, but still, a HUGE difference. Butttt, we have a beast of a team, and I think a lotta folk are sleeping on US as well, lol, so hey. I think we'll do fine, but it will be fun, and probably roughish compared to last year. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if we both ran more, AND Josh put up career numbers. It could very well be "that," kind of a year. That's what I'm looking for anyway. Guess I'd settle for a playoff spot and all the tremendous highlights that are on the way!!! 😁🦬🦬🦬
@@SeanL-jw9rr I can see a scenario where Coleman and Bishop are used situationally at first, rather than as starters week 1. But who knows? We went and got quality veterans at those positions for a reason.
The national media talks about Gabe Davis like he's a legit #2 receiver. He had 7 games last season with 1 catch or less. Samuel in, Gabe Davis out is a good thing.
Never made much money and had 3 kids and a mortgage, so my many of my summers were spent on "Tar Beach"..an old East Coast expression for no money, so up on the my roof
Good Lord- the last thing the Bills need is ANOTHER cornerback. They probably have a bigger need at Safety than corner. Benford, Brown, Couch, Delaney, Elam, Douglas, Hardy, Ingram, Johnson, Lewis, Lovely, Williamson- seriously- have you guys even looked at the roster??? They have 12 CB's on the roster!
Safety would be a higher priority in my mind, Elam seems to be coming along and should be at least serviceable when/if called on. I actually expect him to possibly push for starting time, in a better case scenario. Having a keyed-in Elam, and Rasul Douglas at corner would give us awesome physicality. Benford isn't small, either. Hope Elam keeps up the good work, kid seems super-athletic and would make an awesome island corner... Bills have some really intriguing prospects this year. I'm especially interested to see Curtis Samuel and Mack Hollins in action. Gonna be a fun year, imo
Thank you. Concern levels over Bass should be at least 8. Holding is a factor, but largely something a top notch kicker should be able to overcome. We should have re-signed Araiza ... way way more concerned about him going to KC than the Worthy thing.
Thanks, bit of both actually - it would have been worth trying out Araiza as a kicker as well being an upgrade at punter, with worst case being he would also upgrade the holding. Bass' technique and then his confidence seemed extremely suspect, and if he's suffering from the 'yips', well that's not easily overcome, and certainly not by just being told to do better or practice more. This is more of an Achilles than anything else we've got going on. I think the rest of the squad will be competitive to win the division, make a playoff run, even beat the Chiefs, but we'll have to do it without having any confidence in taking extra points or FGs, and that's a huge handicap to run for an entire season.
Get off of Knox! He has come through clutch in major parts of a game and let us to victory on numerous occasions. I don’t understand why people underestimate him so much I just don’t get it.
James Cook had every opportunity last year to break out into an upper tier back. Over a 4 game stretch it looked like he might. But then he came back down to Earth. He's ok, maybe average or a hair above, but he's neither bruising nor slashing. His WR skills are also just ok. Yet due to his Team name and age he'd be great trade bait. Ray Davis is already a better runner than James Cook. Prove me right Ray!
Guys ALOT of kickers have a bad season Adam Venitiari is one of the best ever and he had a few full seasons where he was awful like 70% kicker awful! RELAX!
