Had to rewatch This after hearing the tragic news of Katie Meyer. I watched this live when it aired and what a game it was, and like so many of us, we all loved Katie Meyer after this shootout. Such sad news, but she’ll always be remembered as a legend for Stanford. Rest easy Katie 🙏🏼
Yeah, did you hear why she died? Looks like Stanford administrators harassed her and threatened to try her for disciplinary reasons over her defense of a teammate. Julie's parents could sue Stanford over her wrongful death. They are probably talking to lawyers now.
@@StephenDoty84 That was the narrative given. Katie had much more on her plate than Stanford's reprimand, and I could only imagine what was happening in her mind in her final moments. It didn't have to end this way, everyone knew that except Katie.
i had the pleasure of meeting katie a number of times and i remember watching this game live. she was the most wonderful player and person imaginable. may she rest in peace.
She is so animated! I was pleased at how she found the camera after her second save and showed off the name on her shirt and told critics to 'zip it' in effect. ;)
@@StephenDoty84 Katie's performance in front of that camera struck me as a metaphor for her life. Well aware of her prowess and eager to advertise it to the world. She actually finished on top in a way, embarrassing Stanford University for a perceived injustice, turning the table. In Katie's calculations, this achievement was worth paying the ultimate price for. She "threw it away" all right. Most will not understand this but if you know ADHD and depression you may.
i love stanfords keeper. she’s confident and if i were a player on stanford i would definitely be encouraged by her energy. love her so much. the other goalie also did amazing as well
it’s hilarious being a goalie and reading the comments about the shots being so predictable. like how about you get in the goal and tell me which way they’re gonna shoot under that amount of pressure😂🤦🏼♀️
I have never really followed college soccer. I am a ride or die UNC fan. I always bet on UNC in any sport. That being said, I have followed Katie since her ECNL days with Real So Cal. Seeing Katie in her element, seeing her passion and skill you cannot help but be ecstatic for her. She was an amazing player and person. She was perfection on the pitch. I can’t help but think of how much she would have elevated women’s soccer had she been given the chance. Her parents raised an amazing young woman who deserved so much more from this world. Rest In Peace, Katie 💘
Katie Meyer is a savage 🔥💗gotta love the passion and confidence. Claudia Dickey has my respect too; both ladies were incredible but so glad Stanford took the championship home 🙌🏻
fun fact: if you look up ‘Real So Cal’ on youtube, a channel should show up and Katie was the goalie! it’s pretty fun to see her play in her high school years.
These are legit the worst series of penalty kicks I've ever seen. Most shots were easy to read and had no power behind them. A competent keeper would have saved the majority of those shots. Only 2 or 3 were well taken.
The difference between women soccer and men’s soccer 😂 USA has the best woman’s team and soccer program in the world and our u-15 boys academies compete at a higher level and our men’s team isn’t even good. And women still complain for a higher pay
elichaparo -lil_E the competition that the woman’s team goes against is nothing compared to the competition the men’s team goes against. You cant say US women’s team is better than the men’s
@@tonyrebel63 But what I'm saying, albeit as a Tarheel is that true "Confidence" needs no pretentious display. Had she been confident she would of let her work speak for itself and not have needed to self hype for a "Lack of Confidence". Great GK but clearly insecure as a person and seemed to make the game less about the Team or the School but more about her. Ask the gal who went to HS w/ her. "Haters"? Hardly. True Confidence speaks for itself, like Tobin Heath!
@@halimmimo2555 She's weak mentally for getting distracted with display and caught up in her own hype. That's s lack of focus. Remember, there's no "I" in "Team".
Half of kicks were taken poorly to point where that early jump wasn't necessary ....like how she made her goal even saved one and didn't make a show like Stanford's
@@connormadden182 any other countries' TEAM. These kinds of observations can only be made because football is a white sport in the the US. This is completely normal elsewhere like France, England, Belgium, Netherlands
this comment section proves once again how the only time men "care" about women's sports is to talk shit I promise y'all they don't care how not good you think they are they just want that trophy however they get it lol (I agree this isn't the best pk shootout but literally the reason they reached this point is how good both teams are and are full of talents that will be in the uswnt in years to come)
@@remowilliams7029 first of all I literally said I also don't think it was good??? this is just women's college soccer if you try to compare it to champion's league you're stupid. also no point in them trying to please y'all even if this was an exceptional shootout y'all will be trashing them anyway for being women lol
@@lumoslorraine Good maybe next time you'll stay in your lane and leave football to us. Lorraine before you go are you one of those lonely cat loving feminist? Bye bye boo.
I’ve had depression for twenty years. You go to a dark place and it’s tough. Not sure if that was the case here, but it can be unbearable. People don’t get it unless you live with it.
I love her confidence! Mental health is never easy to talk about... and hopefully this raises awareness. Players from both teams did great and everyone should be proud of themselves. It's no wonder the USWNT is the best in the world.
This is high level woman’s soccer in the USA 😂 and the USA is the best at soccer and our u-15 boy academies are way better 😂 our men’s college team also perform at a way higher level then women and are a extreme shit ametuer team compared to any other soccer played around the world 😂. And considering these are some of the best soccer played in women’s soccer they should not complain about pay difference. Woman compete at a way way lower level.
It’s funny how USA is the best at making woman athletes and this is considered high level while a men’s college team would destroy them and play way better are considered trash or amateur in men’s soccer. And they still have the mind to complain about pay. 😂
@@elichaparo-lil_e2652 Yeah that's why there are women's and men's teams in every sport. You can't compare men to women because men are just stronger and quicker. Imagine if there was just track and not men's and women's track.
Marjorie Plants He knows that as stated, but he’s just approaching the issue of woman wanting to be paid the same as men, even though they don’t compete at the same level and don’t generate the same audience as men teams
Katie Meyer of Stanford truly intense goalkeeper !! Old saying : A person's greatest strength also can be one's biggest weakness... Meyer must have been so despondent in her life...intensity overcame her to commit suicide.
goalies need to work on not going out too fast, the players could’ve easily looked up during the shot and moved the shot but, I don’t play GK so what can I say
