This video is intended to help you identify some of the parts typically seen on early Stanley Bailey pre-lateral bench planes. Types 1-4 are discussed; type 1 and type 4 characteristics are shown.
*On the type 1 frog, I meant to point out how “Woods” was machined off of the adjustment knob after Bailey’s failed business partnership with Woods.
*also - I referred to the brass barrel nut on the knob as an “adjuster” and I have no idea why.
This is an edited version of the original, intended to correct some erroneous information presented such as info on the frog screws.

The No1s tend to march to the beat of their own tune. It sounds awesome though. Gotta love an old No1

I have a no1 type 1 (I thought) but the brass adjustment knob has no patent dates on it at all also has only two Knurled ring. Also the lever cap has a straight spring unlike the one you showed for the type1. Were they done different for the sizes?

Your no. 3 frog is a type 2 not a type 4. The 2's were cast with a size no. and the yoke and pin was hand finished. The type 4's did not feature the plane size in the frog castings. It appears that someone added the recessed adjuster nut from a later frog. The threads are the same as on the solid nut. Otherwise your presentation is excellent.

Do you think the brass has been replaced on the No3 frog though? Shouldn’t it be solid on the back? I know the yoke (y adjusting lever) is older and the number on the bottom indicates type 2. I need to re-do this video at some point. Gonna try to gather up some more older parts to use as examples in the next edition
