@@viniciusmagnoni6492 the song was released in 1981. I saw them sing this live in 1982, Philippine International Convention Center, Manila, Philippines. So I stand corrected, 38 years ago when I commented to this in 2019.
George Duke's brilliance was a major reason I discovered and love contemporary jazz. He was a brilliant musician who made great R&B, funk, jazz and pop music. R.I.P. & God bless you "Sir Duke"!
NO DOUBT I WAS FORTUNATE THE LATE GREAT GEORGE DUKE SIGNED 22 ALBUM COVERS FOR ME IN RETURN I MADE TRIBUTE TO HIM IN 2012 TO SHARE ALL MY 33 ALBUM COVERS ON FACEBOOK.
I'm so glad you brought up the lyrical aspect of the song I almost don't have words to say because the feeling is so much greater than words can ever say or equate to but I'll just say this that the lyrics , the story is really what gets me it's written very well. The simplicity of the music the melody the groove the hook , the feeling that you get from this song matched with his story is priceless!!! Love it love it love it!!
Can't sleep, my father passed 07 Jan 2021, I'm about to make a road trip to handle his affairs in Hazlehurst, MS. So much anxiety going on inside me, just sitting up in my bed listening to songs that make me think of him and the good old days when pretty much all my loved ones that have passed on were all here and vibrant and in their prime. Life is too short, find your happy spot people!
Prayers & Condolences...I lost my only sibling many years ago & this song always made me think of him. Life is truly so precious & so are the people we love...
Maaannnnn George Duke's voice is EVERYTHING! The way he sang this song brings me back to a time when we could enjoy our lives. Now, you can lose your life shopping for groceries. 💔One of THE greatest songs in life ever! The lyrics are so beautiful and unique that this song brings tears to my eyes. BEAUTIFUL!! ❤ R.I.P MR. GEORGE DUKE. 💔🕊
Absolutely! I'm 56, can remember being 12 loving this the summer of 79. Oh, what an amazing dou these guys were! An amazing era in music at that time! These types of classics are rare these days...oh well at least we had yesteryear ❤
This song just popped into my head in the dead of night, for no reason. I got out of bed just to search it and it just brought a flood of great musical memories over me. I just love it, RIP George xx
Nikki Royal it is 3:42 am and I just woke up and this song was playing in my head. I googled it because I didn't know who was the artist. I thought white guys sang this but was shocked to learn it's a George Duke song.
I was in a relationship that was having trouble the time this song came out. We got back together, but eventually did break up which devastated me. Every time I hear this song, I think about that time in my life and smile. She was the love of my life.
This beautiful song takes me back to being 9 years old and listening to it on FM 98 WJLB out of Detroit. I am so glad I found it again, thank you for it. ❤
I was born 8/28/1970, and the 70's and 80's music was phenomenal! So thankful to RU-vid and the uploaders who put this wonderful music for everyone....
Rambo. . .be nice (hahaha). Don't forget Kanye West, whose fans don't even know who is Sir Paul McCartney and who claimed to be the biggest rock star. David Crosby just told him to go see Stevie Wonder (lol)
When I think about your lovin' The Sunday evenings, the fun we used to share Looking through the memories in my mind Since I've laughed and cried and thought it over Now I realize that it's never over, it's only set aside Oh it's you, sweet baby I will never be free from your embrace, sweet baby Only hoping it's not too late to try again It's you, sweet baby Ever lost and captured by your smile, sweet baby I will always be right there by your side Right by your side Lying here alone I'm dreaming My mind keeps wandering, my thoughts are only you Looking through the memories in my mind How could love so real have turned so empty I just keep wondering why Will I ever find the love we shared together, you and I Girl it's you, sweet baby Though we had such a long hard road to climb, sweet baby Only hoping it's not too late to try again It's you, sweet baby Won't you try belivin what i say, sweet baby I will always be right there by your side Right by your side
We will never get these sweet songs back. The world has changed. Unfortunately artitstic fakes, not artists have taken over. Clarke and Duke...simply fantabulous!!!
Come on naysayers, the music is out there we just have to look for it, no different than back then. We're older now, we don't listen to pop radio (and because we're coming out of the swirl generation) into Reagan's administration 80's Duran Duran, Rick Astley but Elvis Costello made some of his best stuff, Funkadelic some of their best stuff, music lovers find it. Look at Kamasi Washington's latest. Maybe I don't make the time to look like I did back then. Sorry, a beautiful, wonderful song.
"artitstic fakes, not artists have taken over" the most successful musical celebrities in our time are vapid popstars. talentless as most of them are, it is disingenuous to call them fakes they make no pretense of artistry. those who listen to them and their musical products do not care for such things. they arent fake because they make no claim to be real. the intended audience doesnt care otherwise
@@stoshrice4060 , its ridiculous when people use the its out there, you have to look for it bulls__t. ITS NOT OUT THERE. THE MUSICAL LANDSCAPE IS FILLED WITH TALENTLESS CRAP. The writting, production, arrangement, vocals musicianship of the 60s, 70s are so far superior to the shit that passes for music today, that its a joke. MTV was the beginning of the end.
@@MakeupbyjakkiTVHello how are you doing today I hope you have a great and beautiful day today and my name is Winton Moore and how is the weather over there
Cos musicians now want instant success. Using jus 4 chords to make music!! Some songs of eg Stevie wonder intro alone has 6 power jazz chords!!! U get the idea??
I was going into my senior year in high school that fall and I’m telling you, even youngsters knew good, quality entertainment such as Sir Duke, Stanley Clark, EWF, Lee Ritenour, Michael Franks~ (there’s so many more I haven’t mentioned…I apologize not mentioning you) So it was a must that I own this album back in ‘81 I listen to this song and all the things that were happening in my life come rushing in like a tidal wave! Nothing but nice, mellow vibes… the world has changed however. Music has changed as well. I digress. Happy am I to have witnessed better days…Mr Clarke, you’ve made part of my growing up a whole lot sweeter like the fruit from a blessed garden! Words just cannot capture the music of my heartbeat : thank you, so kindly! And Sir Duke, I just know you’re having the best time up in that great jazz festival in the sky!! Thank you! We love the both of you legends!!
With tears in my eyes.. this song will forever remind me of my high school sweetheart.. it was a turbulent 32 year ride but wouldn’t trade my experience with him for the world😔😔
Rest in heaven George... Thank you for growing me up on your music and soulful voice.. As a young girl living on base this would be the go to song for us all... The school halls/ PX/ Commissary/ Dr. Office/ Home... Just wish there was music like this Today..
What a treat! I never even dreamed these two actually made a video for this song. The 70's music have the best feeling. The early 80's music is worth listening to for inspiration as well. Today's music is such a spiritual and mental let down. A majority of it is made by dysfunctional, for the dysfunctional. But not at all made for everyone abroad the spectrum. Anyways. This song is timeless for the ears and for the soul.
Released just after my 18th birthday, I went out and bought this LP --- and even at the time, I was thinking, "why am I buying this old people's album,' but the songs on the record were just phenomenal and the musicianship was just so delightful to the ear and to hear. Clarke on the upright bass and George on the 88s! But back in the 80s, seeing the video of the song was darn near next to impossible --- so LONG LIVE THE TUBE! #facts #each1teach1
It's hard to believe that it's been 35 years since this song was Top 20 on the Pop Chart & the Adult Contemporary Chart and Top 10 on the Soul Chart God Bless Stanley Clarke and R.I.P. to Sir Duke, God Bless You and Thanks for what you've done for the Music Industry and BTW, this song was played on Dick Clark's American Bandstand, Soul Train with the late Don Cornelius and America's Top 10 and American Top 40 with the late Casey Kasem as well as on BET Plus, this song was out when One Day at a Time, The Jeffersons, Diff'rent Strokes, The Facts of Life, SOAP, Benson, Hart to Hart, Fantasy Island, The Love Boat, Alice, Dallas, Knots Landing, Falcon Crest, The Dukes of Hazzard, Makin' a Living, M*A*S*H, Trapper John, M.D., Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Three's Company, Little House on the Prairie, Magnum, P.I., Simon & Simon, SOLID GOLD, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, The NEW Tic Tac Dough, The Joker's Wild, BULLSEYE and 3-2-1 Contact were still on the air Plus, late Richard Dawson was still KING of the Family Feud, the late Jim Perry was still the Master Mechanic of Card Sharks and Chuck Woolery and Susan Stafford were still spinning the Wheel of Fortune
Jerry Washington I just wished I could bring back all my family & friends who were integral to my upbringing and just have a formal appreciation dinner and a toast prior to their untimely demise. Which is why you cannot forget to tell anybody that you love them because you just may not get that opportunity........
It was the end of the summer of 1981. I was not going to become a famous musician but I knew a few people who were going to do that. I lived on Gainsborough street in Boston. People were going their separate ways. There was a last party and we wrote on the walls. There was a disturbance that night. A car was flipped on its side. This was the song of the day for me. I listened to it 10 or 20 times. I was 23.
This is one of the most ICONIC SONGS EVER WRITTEN; by two of the Greatest Jazz musicians as A collaborative effort! And This song always brings a tear to my eyes everytime I hear it! RIP GEORGE DUKE! WE MISS U!😞♥🙏🇵🇷
💖This masterpiece will always be among my favorite love ❤️ songs! I remember exactly where I was when it was released in 1981. It only took 1 listen, and I fell in love!!
As a lover of beautiful LYRICS ...All I can say is Woooooo...never tired at all...59 years old and rocking it as I did back then at Kutztown State College...1981!!!
PLEASE take me back to 1981, where my Strawberry Shortcake Dolls were the thing to have, & my scented stickers, an active Girlscout in a Troop, along with rollerskating on a Friday Night! NOTHING was better than that!
i was born 10984 and my late dad brought me casette tapes of these amazing artists..up to now, this music keeps me up..gives me such a feeling no one can ever give me..contentment...peace of mind...thank heavens for these artists..
I was riding the subway and this song jumped in my head and once I got home I played it on tube and did not know George duke and Stanley Clarke sung this song. This is a classic
Man, this tune is like a time machine that transports me to a specific moment in my life: spinning records (yes, LPs) at KMOO in 1981, sitting at the back door smoking a twist as the sun was setting, and the last few notes of "Sweet Baby" playing in the background... then, silence. Dead air, stoner! Start the next 45! (LOVED that job!!!)
Feel the same, only I was in LA listening on K EARTH ! Duke had another great song around the same time called SHINE ON that had a lot of air play in LA as well! Great tune!
You hit the nail on the head! This song is like a marker in time for me. It reminds me of pursuing the woman who is now my wife. George Duke produced a ton of great music!
Purple Reign, it popped in my mind while working on the computer. First I googled the lyrics, then came here. I've been singing up a storm with memories of an era that was so wonderful!
