My Grandfatherwho worked 43 years as a master carpenter and a master millwright. Taught me to always crimp the nail across the grain of the wood.enjoyed today's show as always.beautiful restoration on the Stanley screwdriver. Thanks for pleasant memories.

You are very addictive. Love your work keeping the old pride of America alive. Vintage tools have their own language. Some say they are going home with you. The rest is history.

BTW, some of the very best screwdrivers ever made were the VINTAGE North Bros. Yankee screwdriver line. (#90, #95 etc). The steel they used was unbelievable! and their wooden handles were also GREAT! I am a screwdriver fanatic and own Snap-on, Williams, Mac, etc. and for flat blades, my go to are my vintage Yankees.

First of all, thank you for the tip on the HF dead blow hammer. I will get one. Secondly, let me say that I really enjoyed this video. I honestly thought you were going to screw up the butt end of that handle on the lathe. It was foolish for me to doubt you. And third, I absolutely found value in the various suggestions of technique. I will save this video and refer to it often. Thanks for all the wonderful content you produce and the inspiration you provide.

Beautiful restoration! When I was a kid I used to build a wagons out of an orange crate, pieces off 2x4s and old roller skates. I used to hammer the nails over because they were so long and didn’t know I was giving it strength. LOL!

Some people would argue you ruined the Stanley Hurwood by restoring it. I do not feel that way at all that’s a really nice end result. The handle finish is superbly done. Nice trick/ tip with paint .🙂

What you just did with the nail is called deading and it’s where we get the term dead as a door nail.

So beautiful!! When I have end grain like that chipped up on a handle I like to saturate it in super glue. And do it in layers. Then sand it really nice and it turns out great. That way you don’t have to remove a bunch of material. But there are many ways to do it. I love the finish!! I’m going to experiment with that technique. That process my warrant it’s own video!!!! Great job man!!!!

Hiswood. I love it! @357magdad is a master as well. FLITZ!!!!! Turned out very nice. Reminds me to send you a longer Stanley screwdriver you, it may be a same vintage. Great tip on the.... er tip! I'll remember that! I've ground screwdrivers wrong and usually the tip looks like \ at the end! And yes, water to keep it cool. I had several purple tipped screwdrivers when I was a youngster! Great Mosh! Don't sell yourself short on the camera holder! It works and is brilliant! My wife said "That's totally you" to me. I've been saving scraps of wood when I met you!!

Nice job with the screwdriver John. Good "tip" on the screwdriver tip. I'm guilty of sanding it on the flat. Then I dress the tip back to the right thickness. By the way , thanks for brainwashing me. Now I've started polishing up my tools at work. Guys just look at it and say its just going to get scratched up again. But that's alright. I'll just do it again. Thanks John! 😊

Hey Scoutcrafter. I have that same tripod, same deadblow hammer, same razorblades, same screwdrivers that i can restore now too. Wow! 😲⁉️my softblow hammer is a Plumb hammer with a cane tip on its face with a hole in the center of the tip. Non-maring. Formula for the handle color is amazing. P.S.: If you want us to read something, hold it in focus & give us a few seconds to read it. Tks.

SC, there is a Company called Trusty- Cook that makes 100% of their products in the USA. They sell soft blow hammers and dead blow Ball Peens under their Trusty - Cook name and they also make them (same models) for many of the Tool Truck brands like Mac & Matco. They are 100% lifetime warranted and they are not expensive either! They are a little more than the HF Chinesium hammers but are much higher quality! I've worn out HF hammers quickly - and have had 3 Trusty Cook hammers for 4 years now and they barely have a scratch on them. They also run sales from time to time and often discount 3 hammer sets of your choice. PLEASE check them out - you won't be disappointed!

That is a beautiful quality screwdriver and well worth the effort to look like new. I would have been stalled by the badly pitted tip. How do you get the pitting out without making the tip too thin and thus weakening it? The job you did with the belt sander solved the problem.
