In this video, I am testing a brand new Stanley Power Supply Pack in a series of 3 tests. I test the unit on a truck with a dead battery, the USB charger on my Iphone, and the compressor for my van tire. I give the honest results.
This tool really comes in handy for people that park outside during the cold days of winter, because frozen batteries often prevent cars and trucks from starting. When the temperature is close to 0 degrees fahrenheit, that's when the news channels typically report people with vehicle starting problems.
NOTE: When hooking up a battery jump starter, be sure to have the starter turned off, then connect the positive and then the negative. Turn the starter on and start your vehicle. Once the vehicle is running, disconnect the negative one first and then the positive one. (In this video, I accidentally disconnect the red one first, which is wrong) Sorry for the confusion.
ANOTHER CORRECTION: BE SURE TO: Connect Negative/Black Clamp to Chassis, Metal Component, or Non-Moving Metal Vehicle Component. NEVER Hook it to Negative Battery Terminal. See Manual For Instructions
If you want to find out how to charge your vehicle battery, check out this video where I review Diehard Chargers: • VEHICLE BATTERY CHARGE...
If you find this video helpful or informing, please give me a "Thumbs Up" to help support my channel. Thanks for watching!

I know this is an older video, but I wanted to thank you. My father-in-law gave this to us a few years ago and I didn't know how to use it. Now I will be prepared for power outages here in Iowa's tornado season. Thanks!

Great video I just bought this yesterday. I have a Buick Rainier V8 and my remote starter device had a short and was draining my battery(I had it removed) but anyway it started my truck with no problem. I'm glad I did my research and bought this jump box. This is truly a lifesaver. Every woman should have this device.

Mark, thanks for posting this video. I just purchased this item and I really didn't have any idea of how to operate the thing. After watching your video, I now know that the positive red cable goes to the positive battery plug and the black goes to a piece of metal. At first I thought black plug went to the other side of the battery.. guess it could have blown up the batter if I did this? Didn't realize the battery could blow up acid and that's why its good to have protective glasses on. Also I learned you need to go in reverse order when removing cables. Thanks again!

Excellent review & video!! I've been checking out this jump starter and one review said it didn't always work well on a V6 engine and I have an '02 Ford Ranger 3L V6, but it seems this thing worked pretty good on your Silverado, so I gotta figure it will work well for me if or when I need it to, as long as I do the monthly charge on it!! I think most people who give it bad reviews don't charge the unit up every 30-60 days as required.

I have the same unit that was bought back in 2010 from Canadian tire and it dose stand up to time as mine is now six years old. The only weak thing on this unit is the compressor, as it is not heavy duty enough as mine failed after the third year but the battery boost is still working as well the USB charging port.

Is the battery inside 18AH (amp hour) rated? Will this charge if plugged into cigarette lighter while driving? Can it be be charged by a 100 watt solar panel without a controller with no risk of overcharging?

Good review. It's been a while since I've used mine, so I was unsure about how to charge the charger. Is that done with simply an AC cord with the female end attached to the prongs on the back of the charger? And is the cigarette-lighter hole on the front used solely for outputting a cable from the Jump Starter to the car's cigarette-lighter (I assume for lighter-weight engines that haven't been sitting idle over-long)? (I had thought maybe the battery had two storage parts--the bigger part charged thru the back and the lighter part--for USB, the little lamp, etc.--charged via the cigarette lighter on the front.) I see that's not the case. (I'm going to have to give the ligter a whirl to see how effective it is at charging the car. My only remaining question is how this big fellow compares with all of the featherweight, pocket-sized jump chargers that are now flooding the market (much like the LED flashlights, which are great). For some reason, the Stanley seems like the more solid, safer bet. but the convenience of the little fellows is attractive--esp. if they really work.

I have a Jumpit 1000 and so far so good. I haven't had the chance to jump the car or tractor yet, but I have used the compressor for lawn mower and trailer tires and it works great. Pretty fast for a small compressor. I do have a problem though. The air pressure gauge doesn't work! Before i dig in to it, does anyone have any suggestions on how to get it out short of total disassembly?

You are great! Thank you for this review! I really needed to see it in action. Our Jeep Compass battery died yesterday, we had jumper cables but no one around to help. We had to wait 15 minutes for roadside assistance. So I started looking at Jump starter packs, it seemed like it started up your dead battery pretty well. I found this exact Stanley one, but wasn't sure whether to pick the model with a compressor or without. Do you think we'd get much use out of a compressor? Is tire pressure supposed to be something we need to monitor on a monthly or constant basis? (because personally, we've only been having tires checked, aligned and rotated once a year).

Awesome video Mark. How do I know if the jumper cables are working? I tried to touch them together on reverse polarity and didn't see any spark. Could something be wrong with my the jumper cables?
@MarkThomasBuilder
@MarkThomasBuilder 2 года назад
Thanks Mike! I've never touched them together on this and I'm sure the instructions say the same thing. If you have a fully charged unit, the switch on, and a good solid connection on each end, then it should work. I think the most common reason it would fail is if the negative isn't clipped on some metal that goes to the frame. Make sure it's not clipped to aluminum. Hope that helps.

I didn't understand what the power adapter for your cigarette lighter does. What is it supposed to do when you plug it into your cigarette lighter? Also, how long do you have to drive the vehicle after you jump start it to recharge the battery? Can it recharge while idling in the driveway or do you actually have to drive it to recharge it? My Stanley 1000 should be here by tomorrow. I've been stuck at home with a dead battery for three days and am looking forward to getting my ride going once again.

Yes, I have this charger and has come through with flying colors when my batteries went dead unexpectedly. You have to make sure you keep it topped off with a charge every 1-2 months when not in use. I did not know I could use the adapters and plug in via the cig lighter instead of the battery terminals. Is that actually safe??

I just bawt this and was wondering how could I charge this by using cars cig lighter. The manual says to put the gold end into the cars DC outlet, but the cable is silver on both ends (the male-male DC cable that comes with jump starter) What is the correct way to connect this ? Also will I get the LED charging light when using DC method? Thanks for a great review!
@MarkThomasBuilder

Sorry, I only have experience charging it from my a/c outlet. I would think both ends are the same on the d/c charger. If the charger is turned off and your vehicle is putting out a current, then it should charge it. You may want to email the company to be sure.

Going on a road trip and was thinking off picking something like this. Was wondering do you know could it pump up all 4 tires if they are low on a single charge? I'm guessing there is no way to charge it in a vehicle if it needs to be charged while on the road?
@MarkThomasBuilder
@MarkThomasBuilder 9 лет назад
Cary Nelson I've never tested it to see how long it will run on a single charge. Based on my experience, I think it would easily pump up a few low tires. I usually don't run the compressor for longer than 5 minutes at a time. I think with all small compressors, they last longer when run for shorter periods of time in order to avoid overheating. Hope this answers your question...
@justinb8392
@justinb8392 9 лет назад
Cary Nelson I've got the slightly cheaper version of this same jumper pack and it could definitely pump up all 4 tires on a single charge. Mine pumped up the tires from a car that was sitting for over a year with a slow air leak (for one tire the rim was on the ground with how low the pressure was) and still had plenty of charge after pumping up the other 3.

I've been reading reviews on this particular model and there are quite a few negative reviews that say the item it's self will not charge after use. One person said that the compressor switch sticks out so if there's any movement on the device it will turn on. Have you had any issues with this? I'm just assuming those negative reviews were due to a faulty device from the factory. Last December I flew home for 2 weeks leaving my car in the airport's extended parking which doesn't have any kind of cover from the elements. When I got back from my vacation my car battery was dead and I had to wait for any stranger that was parked nearby to give me a jump. I'll be making the same trip again this coming December so I'm looking into getting a jumper box.

My car battery die three days ago, today I try to charge it using the same one for 30 min still doesn't work? Before you couldn't hear the engine starting, but after charging it now you can almost hear the engine starting but then it dies again. Do you recommend jump start it longer?
@MarkThomasBuilder
@MarkThomasBuilder 8 лет назад
+MysticSoulsTV I just want to clarify that the jump starter doesn't make a difference if you have it hooked up for 1 minute or 30 minutes. The key is making sure you have good connections. A battery charger is completely different, and may take several hours to charge, depending on what setting you have. I would try to fully charge the battery and then see if it starts.

I couldn't tell from the video but once it's hooked up to the battery and you turn it on is there a sound or indicator light to let you know it is working? I just used it on my car in it worked flawlessly but just from looking at it I couldn't tell if it was working or not. No lights or sounds were coming out of this thing.

I have the same one. Charged it like I was suppose to according to its directions. Put it in vehicle with no testing (didn't have a dead battery). Car died 2 weeks later. Stanley didn't work no matter how snug I had the connections or how many times I turned the key or readjusted it. Towed car back. Bought new battery. Car cranked right up. After that I wanted to check its other main function (air compressor). All tires were low. Stanley pumped #1 and 2 with no issues. Tire #3 broke it. Click and fizz. P.O.S.

Cody Barnes How long have you owned the Stanley Jump Starter? Hopefully you can exchange it. I've owned a different one, purchased from Sam's Club, and it lasted at least 6 years. The compressor was the first thing to go out. My Stanley one has worked good so far.

If the plates in the old battery are shorted together, NOTHING will jumpstart it. You can only replace the battery.

Going to pick one up tomorrow getting tired of my car battery dying while at work. Asked someone nearby me today to help me out im pretty sure he hooked up his end wrong his battery was in the trunk and it was dark, when I attached the ground to my car it sparked alot so disconnected the cables quickly. Luckily everything on my car and his car still worked fine I looked inside my car and my lights were on I guess thats all the battery needed, my car started right up with the cables disconnected.

@MarkThomasBuilder
@MarkThomasBuilder 9 лет назад
rubicontreras1 No, this won't work for the problem you described. This won't trickle charge your battery. It only gives it a jump start. If your battery if fully charged, you can drive short distances and then the car will start acting up. I don't recommend doing this. Thanks for the question.

Bought the STANLEY 1000/500 j509 in Nov of 2018. I have always kept it charged as per instructions. Even so the 2 times I tried to use it to jump start my lawn tractor it was unable to. Recently I noticed that the USB status light would come on randomly. I contacted customer service and was told some BS about the circuitry. The rep said to charge it for 40 hrs. I did so and after that now the three battery status lights come on randomly also. I just tried to use it to start the lawn tractor, after it had been full charged less than a month ago. Same story, no start. I put it on to charge and after all three lights indicated fully charged I took it off charge. The next day I noticed that one battery status light was lit. I put it back on charge and it seems to be completly discharged.

Sorry to hear that. These are a handy tool to have, but they don't always last the longest, despite the brand. I think I've gone through 3-4 of them in my lifetime. Part of the time it the compressor that goes out.

I'm curious what size engine was in your truck and how many cranking amps are recommended to start the engine? I have a '12 Ram 2500HD with a 5.7L V8, the battery lists 730CCA. After all the reviews and information I researched on this product it doesn't reference Trucks or HD Trucks, they seem pretty careful in what they recommend the use for. I'm just looking for a comparison. Would this jump starter be able to start my truck with a completely dead battery? I don't currently have any issues with my Truck/Battery but I am looking for a fall back if/when that time arises. I want to be prepared. Thanks in advance.
@MarkThomasBuilder

My truck is a Ford Triton 5.4 V8. I'm not sure how many CCA it needs. When I have a completely dead battery, I put a charger on it. Otherwise, this jump starter always works well when I need it.
