In This Video:
I teardown a scrapped Stanley Jumpit booster pack only to realize how terrible its design is and how cheaply made it is. This went from a repair to a review (really just a warning) about this type of device. If there's anything you need to get from this video it is TO NOT BUY IT!
Remember, IF you LIKED it, like this video, IF you DISLIKED it...well you know what to do. HAVE A GOOD DAY!

That "special" cord is any extension cable, that's all you need to charge it. People not realizing this really makes me question what goes on in the minds of those around me. As far as starting an engine? You're talking a standard four cylinder will pull up to 75-150 amps at most, V8s will want up to 100-300 amps, depending on compression and size. Diesels will pull up to 250- 500 amps, but again that depends on the engine. These SLA packs are fine, just know their limitations and take care of them, same goes for those lithium ion (or sometimes LiPo) packs. They can be just as dodgy as any SLA jump pack, possibly even more so when you take a look at those specs, although the technology in them has come a long way since their inception. Either way, use what works for you and what you prefer. I made my own jump pack out of a Pelican style case with a respectable sized SLA battery and it works great, no stupid electronics or cheap charger either.

My Stanley jump starter is lasting me more than 6 years even keeping it in the trunk all summer and winter and I park outside. I just try to keep it well charged to give the battery longer life. It saved me with my battery and tires lots of times. I feel that they are very good to last me more than seven years.

Thanks for review. Everything you said was true with this unit. I've owned it for a few years and it was useless within the first 6 months.

I would have to say that These Stanley units are built pretty rugged but yes the internal battery suffers a lot from the date of manufacture to when the entire unit was built - and what kills these batteries is the sitting around with little or no charge to begin with - the battery itself after it's manufacturing then sitting to when it's put into one of these booster packs- then more sitting to when its shipped out to a store - it could be up to 2 years before a consumer buys the unit to put it into use. BUT the good news here is that the internal battery can be replaced as I replaced mine at a fraction of the cost to buying a whole new unit of $149.00 - the internal battery was only $69.00 from a store that deals with electric wheel chairs and scooters for the disabled. It's still going strong for nearly 10 years, But saying dont buy these boosters - says to me you would rather risk a lithium polymer fire from one of those Noco units compared to a glass matte type battery which is far FAR safer. HMMM I would rethink your logic. Look at Project farm channel when these lithium polymer units were stress tested compared to this Stanley unit and you tell me which is safer..The other problem you have to realize is there is no way a 1000 amp circuit in any car or truck for that matter. Putting a 1000 amps to a starter the armature would FRY... So Need I say more ?

Very interesting the way you explain things. Your recommendation is on point as the Stanley name on such a cheap product is very disappointing indeed. 🙏🙏 THANK YOU 🇨🇦 ?No fuse on that booster pack?🙏

What is the battery size for this? Would you have a link for recommendation?

Is there anything you would do to fix it and make it usable? Add lithium and/or super capacitors?

I'm not about to say anything about whether or not a booster should be designed the way this one is. However, considering this has a replaceable wall wort and battery, I would look at this as being a serviceable device. A replacement battery would cost $40. A replacement wall wort would cost $10-$15. How much would a new booster cost? $100-$150? I'd rather have something that's serviceable than to contribute to the growing pile of e-waste.

Do what I did with an old Harbor Freight jump pack and ditch the built in charger. I put a barrel plug in it and sealed it back up, now I can use any low amperage charger and get a good, complete charge without worrying about over charging the battery. It's well worth the few dollars and hour or two it takes to make it right!

This! And people don't realize it, but all the custom PCBs just have the same copy paste circuits that wall warts have anyway. Maybe even with less protection.

How can I put this...I suppose it might get the job done, but there are much better packs out there.

DO NOT BUY, when the device needs repair "Stanley" has a policy that it can not. They do not/will not supply parts to fix it.
