He or Jared Leto are dumb enough they probably WOULD do something like that. The real ORIGINAL method actors don’t do stupid stuff like lose disgusting amounts of weight and ruin their health or send their cast mates used rubbers and dead rats. Marlon Brando was the OG method actor and while he committed himself to parts even learning how to use a wheelchair and was eccentric he’d be laughing at these clowns. Literal clown in Leto’s case

I think Kubrick was just playing mind games and fucking with Ryan a bit. It was probably just his way of intimidation and getting respect from O'Neal to do whatever else Stanley may have asked ("sure, he made me do 100+ takes, but at least he didn't cut my leg off"). In psychology, this is a technique called the door-in-the-foot technique. I don't think any sane person would honestly think an actor would agree to cut their leg off just for a role in a movie.

There's a scene in Satyricon wherein an extra has his hand cut off with a sword. It is absolutely an unremarkable shot, it adds nothing to the film as a whole, but I remember reading that Fellini paid a fortune for the actor to literally have his hand hacked off.😮

@ABW941

Like many of theses scenes were done in the past and today, he would bend his leg and tie his foot to his back, or maybe they found someone who looked like him but had only one leg, or maybe he had two and Kubrick talked him into cutting it off.

@@moimoimoiiiiiii32221 it would be done in multiple cuts, from the back, where the leg would be bent up infront of him, and from the front, where the leg would be behind him. I however dont know how this specific scene was filmed, maybe it was a combination of multiple "special effects".

@elonif4125
@elonif4125 9 месяцев назад
I think that’s intentional because Barry Lyndon is kind of pathetic as a character. If a big actor with a lot of charisma would have played the role it probably wouldn’t have fitted so well. Idk, just what I would guess.
@johnwatts8346
@johnwatts8346 9 месяцев назад
@@elonif4125 thats my assumption too, its always extremely deliberate with kubrick. the character is a bum, he isnt meant to be highly impressive, and as you say, some super star actor with massive super star charisma eg krik douglas or jack nicholson would actually have too much screen presence etc. also- oneal isnt all an overly likeable star, and ya aint meant to like the character.
