The Negroni is a popular Italian cocktail, made of one part gin, one part VERMOUTH ROSSO, and one part Campari, garnished with orange peel. It is considered an apéritif. A traditionally made Negroni is stirred, NOT SHAKEN, and built over ice in an old-fashioned or rocks glass and garnished with a slice of orange.

Exactly.. agree 100% his gin to apertivo ratios are not the classic Negroni, and would be quite overpowering in flavour and texture, and I've never seen one shaken before. 20 seconds stirred in lots of ice to chill, strained over new ice, and as the ice melts while drinking it, for me anyway, the initial dilution improves the texture of the cocktail.

I love this man act... but as a bartender i just have to step in: 1. The correct ratio is equal parts of gin, vermouth and campari. You can and should adjust those by your personal taste tho (gin gives botanical flavour, vermouth makes it sweet and campari makes it more bitter) 2. Its stirred not shaken. Because you want to cool and dilute it, without cracking the ice or adding air into the drink. (if you must shake it: at least double strain it) 3. The Garnish will ultimately decide what aroma the drink will have. Orange makes it fruity and sweet, lemon makes it citruss heavy and sour and rosmary makes it earthy and more on a botanical side. Tip: leave the garnish outside of the drink. Nerd-Out. Peace.

The equal parts 1:1:1 for a standard negroni is fine. I find with mezcal you need to increase the mezcal. But if you're doing the weird Tucci speks of double shot liquor and 1 shot of the others it's probably fine. With mezcal I do 1.5 oz mezcal and 1 oz each of the others

Not two shots of gin. Not vodka and a splash of gin. There is only one Negroni, and it is made with equal parts of gin (savory), Campari (bitter) and sweet vermouth. The savory/bitter/sweet combination is what has made it so popular: It is pleasing in the mouth, and pairs well with savory and salty snacks. This video is counterproductive.

There is so much hate in the comments for this but there is nothing wrong with anything hes done in this video. Lets break it down a bit: 1. He basically did 2:1:1 on the measurements which is fine, personally I always go heavy on the gin in negronis because too often a gin can go under in the recipe. The Plymouth gin that he uses here is wonderful but gentle, double measurement of it in the drink is pretty much on point. Hell, Gaz Regan, the man who wrote the book on Negronis, makes his 4:1:1. 2. Sweet Vermouth is generally Rosso Vermouth, in this case its a bottle of Antica Formula which is used in pretty much any cocktail bar in the world. Great choice though for me its a bit too vanilla foward in flavour and a Cocchi di Torino would be nicer but its a personal preference. 3. Yes, its a stirred drink in a rocks glass on ice. BUT, shaking a drink makes it colder than stirring it even if using the same type of ice so then having it in a chilled coupe is a really nice touch. 4. To the dude who said cobbler shakers belong in the trash: GET F. They have their use, they have their place and tell that to any japanese bartender and he will rip you a new one. 5. Zest over Wedge: a lot of cocktail bars, especially in italy will make the drink with a cleanly cut wedge. The slight infusion of a fresh orange makes the drink even more interesting over time and adds just another dimension. Most italians Ive met enjoy squeezing just a couple drops of orange in the drink just like a lot of scotch drinkers will do it with a drop of water in the whisky. Its a ritual among enjoyers. 6. The designation perfect in a cocktails is NOT a 1:1:1 measure, that would make a Last Word a Perfect Last Word. Generally its used for Martinis and Manhattans to mention that its made with both Sweet and Dry Vermouth. A Perfect Negroni is just a drink that he loves to drink and its best for him. Frankly this is is an excellent drink and with the products he used its probably better than some negronis Ive seen in decent cocktail bars. People ripping on him need to learn that making a drink for oneself at home is a joy and be happy that an actor you like shows a drink he enjoys. Cheers you twats.

Also, if you have the "supertaster" gene the orange will make it taste like soap (same effect as cilantro). Try it without the garnish if you dont like it. I didnt like the first one but after the third time i tried one it became my favorite cocktail. You can also leave out the gin for an " Americano ", the basis for the Negroni

Ironically, Perfect, means “each ingredient in equal parts” so Tucci’s Negroni is as far from perfect as possible. Also you don’t fucking shake a Negroni you stir it. Even if you DID shake it you wouldn’t do so in a cobbler shaker (those belong in the trash). And even if you DID use a cobbler shaker his shaking was super weak and wouldn’t have properly chilled or diluted the drink. You garnish with an orange peel, not a slice, and you serve on a rock in a rocks glass. This is a master class in “how not to make a Negroni”

His measuring cup had a one-ounce side and a two-ounce side. He used the two-ounce side for the gin...so he DID pour a double shot of gin in there which is a no-no, of course. The gin will overpower the other flavors. This, plus the very idea that one could use vodka instead of gin in this drink, makes one consider the possibility that Stanley Tucci has no taste buds. He should start a foundation to help those who also have this problem. Must be a bitch.
