They tested server meshing past winter in one of the play tests. With success, bumping player count on a single shard to 800. If you want to go hate on something, make sure you know what your talking about. Talking about Ashes of Creation. This is another crowdfunded game (like SC). Isn't out yet. Alpha 2 starting this fall. So it isn't being played right now. And to talk about it a bit more, server meshing in a game as AoC isn't like it's being done in SC. They all call it "server meshing" because it's a general term to use when using multiple servers, but it can be used in different ways. Guild Wars 2 uses "megaservers", also a similar tech, but again not the same. Server meshing is not new, but how it get's applied can vary alot. CIG wants to create a living and breathing universe with dozens over overlaping servers, without creating instanced zones (which most other games do have for the record). A seamless experience. That is unique and never been done in the scale they want to achieve it. Maybe go do some more research on the topic to understand the difference in how some of these games apply it. You should get that troll wax out of your ears and educate yourself before making silly little videos.
SC issue is simple: tech debt. They work on so many partial features and unfinished stuff through the years, change design so many times, so we currently have a big ball of mud impossible to stabilize enough to make it playable.
@@gemreviews2840 Well, it's not really a claim. We have so many incomplete systems in the game, and CIG is still working on fire physics, water physics, ship damage physics, dynamic server meshing, hangars etc etc They are working on way too much at once
@@gemreviews2840 yeah they dont have a choice. they used Flash for all the UI and they are still tearing it out to replace with Building Blocks. The UI is definitely changed from what it was. Flash isn't even used on the web anymore. But the biggest tech debt they have is all the ships. 890 still uses the old UI. I think the 100i also has a button using that old tech. Im sure lots of their ships still use the old UI. hell the terrapin doesn't even have a button panel it uses the ancient system where you look at a doorway to interact with it. Cutty black had that system for ages until they added buttons a few years back. The worst part is they haven't finalized anything so all new ships are just more tech debt being added. They are adding engineering so redundancy is important... They brought up the fact that the zeus has lots of redundancy... that means most older ships... which is everything before it, and the nomad, is adding to that tech debt. Now fire extingishers and atmosphere mean they got to add them to all ships in the form of fire extinguishers and doors / airlocks to ships. so again they have to go back and redo all ships before this year.. until they lock down and finish anything they are just adding systems that will have to be stripped out later and get added to the tech debt column. Part of that tech debt is also modernizing older ships such as the Cat which cant hold all the cargo box sizes. they got a lot of work still to do even once they add all the features in.
@@Atunero they lack technical competence, they like making interesting things but don’t have the technical expertise to run a complex application development program.
Your videos are so entertaining and so much fun to watch to see a genuine reaction... very good job, can't wait to see next episode, CIG is already making excuses for SQ42 and claiming feature complete doesn't mean content complete and i'm laughing so hard at those shills claiming it will be released next year it's such a clown show...
I remember when i started SC and i was buying a starter pack i almost took SQ42 as well... then i didn't... and i am glad I didn't haha BUT i was stupid enough to buy into the lie to the sound of $1334
absolutely correct. How blind do you think you can be? How should sq42 be feature complete or content complete if the basic mechanics don't even work, keyword physics, fire, npc AI etc.
The reality is that SC is no longer leading the pack in technology. In fact, its not really leading in anything beyond having really cool immersion with ship interiors. Its still behind in scale, visual fidelity, server tech, persistence, etc. I have an org with over 500 people in it, and the number of people actively playing went from like 400+ down to 5... nobody is interested in SC anymore. The project is just flopping around on the floor and we are basically waiting for it to die at this point. CIG has no clue what they are doing. Its an absolute joke.
Man! I soo feel you! I backed the game at the start (Just for sq 48) because I was giant wing commander fan. All I wanted was a cool space story game, with a great story, great combat, nice graphics. This has turned into such a giant scam now. I mean they made two cyberpunks, Dark souls 2,3 and Eldenring, Red dead redemption, etc. All these giant games Finished in a few years and are awesome. There is really nothing in SC that can explain why they've spent 12 years on this, with nothing that actually really works.
Man, I knew this game was a scam due to higher management decisions, but wow! The combat pre-master modes was so cool. It was really competitive, and I was going to purchase a HOTAS setup. I was even doing drills that the Avenger One guy taught. I was circling stations, doing barrel rolls - it was really fun to master while learning to control speed. It was definitely a game I looked forward to playing, even while knowing the planned content was bullshit. My friend who introduced me to the game also quit. He used to say that the progress tracker was just empty words and all nonsense, but the combat was really worth checking out. The ship flying was epic. But then master modes came in, not even added for a common reason like making the game easier for newbies like me. No, it was added to lower server FPS! What the heck! With so much money, this company can't afford proper servers? Btw, It's been since february I stopped playing. I was told that I'm wrong and that in july we'll have pyro and hangars with physycalized inventory. I was also told server meshing would be here in June and that I'm a hater for not believing and that I'll see. I was hoping I'd be so wrong , but where is Pyro ? Where is the hangar with sitting on a couch?
LOL love the vid my man. I have already taken the necessary steps to mitigate the damage for me. Sadly many people are idealizing what SC could be rather than what it is.
Yes, I haven't invested much, but I'm thinking I better hit the grey market sooner rather than later. I haven't been around terribly long, since 3.12 or so, but I'm not liking the general direction things are going in...
@@dkindigyep makes me sad to see a glimps of what it could have been go sour. Damn, I really loved the lore and style of the ships. Good luck with your sales. Things are still hot. I figure we have one more IAE.
And then the inevitable announcement that all the fun stuff has been delayed indefinately but all the ships they want to sell you are right in track for an immediate release even though they aren't in the game yet, dont work, and there's no content to use them on as they are designed. "Our new dedicated mobile soccar ship is finally complete, now you can your friends can fly around the galaxy playing soccar to your hearts content!" (kicking, soccar balls, team sports, 'goals,' grass, white lines, etc all to be added at a later date of at least +5 years out from now!"
What about Eve? it was a game from the mid 2000s and yet they can have battles with hundreds if not thousands of players. They system shards out the large battles... But 20 years later CIG cant even get the basics working?
They hide between the excuse of "our game is alpha yet". Back in 2016 when Hello Games finally shiped NMS and it was a disaster, I had so much hope that when SC would be ready, I would have the space game I would like to have, but one year later, NMS was already cool and I d was yet waiting for SC to release at least a Beta and until now, 8 years later, NMS is already a beast, a monster and SC doesn't look so different from 5 years ago. Well, there are more cool ships, but that's it basically
@@rafante2 dunno. Hello Games did a lot of the bad press to themselves. and they redeemed themselves. who knows what would have happend without the rage.
CIG should focus on their Star Engine. Making it a service and selling it to game studios who know how to make actual games. CIG's 12 year old technical test is ridiculous at this point, it will need another 12 years to even be called a game.
I was already stockpiling RMC from my Vulture in my Taurus before. I was excited for the cargo elevators, as that will make what i was doing easier. Then they nerfed salvage. Then they broke flight. I no longer play.
I was just in Wave1 ptu moving stuff into boxes so as to maybe after an hour of micromanaging inventory I could finally play but then it all crashed 🙂👍best space sim ever
Right now it is a race. AOC is having the same growing pains as SC trying to get server meshing out for their Alpha 2 test but its been pushed back. I read they finally sent out the NDAs so it will presumably be in the next couple of weeks. SC had a live test on the PTU already so they are ahead on that side. But the AoC idea of removing the replication layer means they got rid of a bottleneck that lets each server handle the load and just worry about its own population and have a hint of who is in neighbouring servers. The funny thing about all of this is Space Engineers took a hint from Server Meshing and someone wrote a server mod that lets people move between servers seamlessly as they leave planets and go to outer space. Its crude and you cant shoot across the boundary but it works and does spread out the work between multiple servers. The best part is all the servers are owned by players and they setup the locations of the planets and which servers they live on which was something CIG promised ages ago. I wish CIG went in the personal owned server direction since selling ships is going to have a hard time keeping enough servers running. Or, and this is really pie in the sky thinking. they want the replication layer to keep track of purchases but at some point release personal servers so people can run that part of it themselves. But that is wishful thinking. As for the tech they rebrand a lot of stuff that existed. They go on about containerizing the game environment. this lets them off load chunks from memory that are not in use. but it causes the same boundary problems. its why tractors cut off when going in and out of doors or elevators. That tech was developed for Duke Nukem (yes that game when we were all playing on Windows 98 lol) decades before CIG was even around. They had a different name for it but it isn't new. Server meshing I'm sure already exists in some form or another they are just putting their spin on it. same as AoC. And the modders version used in Space Engineers. I would laugh if Space Engineers gets a working version before the big guys get theirs going.
😆😁😂🤣🤣🤣 I kept sharing your videos on other youtube channels where I found out about star citizen and I don't understand why they don't want to say anything about the negative, very negative things in the game. they say they are not paid by the developer and then what do they have to gain?
Meshing has been prevalent in games and enterprise applications for decades. This is the big fact that points to a Ponzi scheme here, a fake reason to delay and sell more NFTs.
Off topic but there are games with ACTUAL fully physicalized inventories and items. It can be a cool system and fun to use if done right. SC is a janky patchwork of pocket dimensions and item teleporting vending machines that doesn't have any logic to it.
I’ve long since sold my SC account & moved on. Life is short, and there are plenty of interesting things to do in the real universe. And hey, I’m a reasonable man. If I read an article in 2030 about how SQ42 actually won GOTY that year, I’ll be the first to admit that I was wrong to lose faith in Chris Roberts, and I’ll gladly make another account & give this game another try. But…what are the odds of that actually happening? Like, maybe 1 in 1000 at the very most?
The same odds that The Day Before had to become goty too... Forget about Squadron 42, man! I think it doesn't even exist at all... I just feel sorry for Mark Hamill that put his own face on this project
I had one try to convince me that it would be some big achievement of server meshing if they were able to have two star systems in separate servers. When pressed on how exactly that was better for gameplay than zones with a minigame wormhole between them he couldn't understand that meshing only matters if we can interact with people in another server, but CIG is so desperate to move the goalposts to cover their failure they want to call 1990s MMO systems a technology win. It's embarassing.
The new dune game coming out will also have server meshing and a replication layer. The fact that CIG hasn't been able to do it after 12 years just goes to show you the level of talent they have, which is none.
It's all a good example of human nature. I don't want to get political, but it's a very similar thing. Where I live, there is a government in power that almost rules the country like a criminal organization. Yet it has many supporters. But not because it's good for these people. A significant number of people are unwilling or unable to understand that they are being scammed. Either they are too stupid or too self-conscious to say: I was wrong, I was scammed. This is also the case here. Many people probably prefer to lie even to themselves, just to admit their own mistakes. Support for SC will decrease over time, but in my country there is a saying: There's shit, there's sparrow...
This mental process is called "Stockholm Syndrome" and you just described exactly what affects Star Citizen's apologists. Hats on! By the way, I'm curious, which country are you from? Russia?
@@MaurizioCrd I'm Hungarian, so you were close. It is often said that Hungary is the most cheerful bar in the Eastern Barak. Today we are one of the saddest and most depressed countries in the world. Unfortunately. The head of our great leader is stuck in the ass of Putin and every major dictator in the world. What you wrote is interesting. Hats on! Here they say: hats off! 🎩
@@josekiss4610 oh you are right: the right quote is actually hats OFF! 😅 Sorry. Look, I feel you: I'm italian, so you can imagine we had our fair share of being stuck between dictators just half a century ago...that wound is still fresh. But don't worry: better times WILL come! Cheers!
And some others go online and post videos about how terrible Star Citizen is and how they now see through it all and are not "treated like a child anymore" 3:17 or "arent idiots" 5:12 for believing what CIG says. Now, they are above those things and better. And better pronounce that to the world in a YT video. So much for being self concious. At this point, I see people in the SC critics camp cope just the same as SC fans.
LMAOOO persistent galaxy makes me laugh... i have been trying to change what im wearing, however the armour i take off, has been falling to the ground, and ucant be picked up... its just a buggy box
I understand your point of view and the fact your channel operates off making critiques of SC; but the more I listened the more it was clear you should look into what "server meshing" is on a coding level. Its a nice buzz word but does not really give a good example of what needed to be done in terms of networking and coding... this tech itself is worth billions with many an application. Trust me when I say this kind of networking/system was a network engineer's pipe dream even less than 5 years back, no company bothered wasting money on its development. It took private funding from a "game company" (that was more a private research project) to truly do it. Not that AOC's version is unimpressive.. but it is more of a static grid with hardcoded or predefined borders, the servers "talk" to each other but its more of an api call, you will not be able to interact or affect something on the other side of this border without proper authority transfer. Basically each AOC server thinks it is the main server with the correct state or authority... dsyncs will be a challenge to overcome. By having a replication layer it prevents miscommunication, by being the "ocean" the dynamic servers, loaded and unloaded based on need/ player rendered area, sail across, all of which cannot be done without having object container streaming. (All the game data being in an object data type is very very crucial here) Server meshing being able to insta transfer an entire object is paradyme shifting technology even for AWS and Azure stacks, not that it forgives the dev speed but no one thought it would be possible, let alone for a live game, including myself. Not that either do not deserve praise but they are fundamentally different versions of the technology, disingenuous or uniformed at a minimum to imply that AOE and SC have the same meshing. AOE vs SC meshing is essentially a static 2D mesh vs a full dynamic 3D mesh. Anyways Im done talking to myself lol- enjoy or dont
So how would we define Server Meshing with computer science and industry terms? There must be one, right? Unless it is all bogus, but I dont think so. Like, would "dynamic stateful distributed system for real-time massive multiplayer video game" be such a term? Stateful, because the data from a player client has to be routed to a specific game server in the mesh. The one with authority over that players character. Dynamic because that routing might change when authority is moved from one game server to another. Distributed system because, well, its many servers in the cloud. I hear that "Server Meshing" is a buzz word all the time, but nobody can give me a proper term for it. At this point I wonder if "buzzword" has become itself a buzzword in this context.
@@SETHthegodofchaos Good point its like when you repeat a word too often and it loses meaning. A few companies are trying it all with different methods of going about it to various scale. The networking method itself as a concept is pretty new and only now being really "tested" by companies in the past 5-7-ish years. (Cloud infrastructure + latency needed to catch up for viability) Star citizen probably has the most advanced/future proof go big or go home approach to the tech; but I would say that unreal, specifically the dev engine has some interesting ways of using it too. They mesh a game level/area and kinda game-ify it to allow multi devs to work on it. The AOC version isnt bad, but a little limited comparatively to the two.
Eve has only 1 server for all players. Has had it for how many years now? 20? recently i came across some one playing "mortal online 2", and that also has one server for everyone Unlike ashes these games are already out and playable, meanwhile all CIG fanboys go "this has never been done before".
i think people fail to understand how much harder it is to do server meshing on a game that plays on very large and very detailed game spaces with many more variables in player movement and interaction, it just simply leads to more room for bugs, they must be highly confident or biting off more than they can chew like always.
In Eve Onlines case that is easy to accomplish if you intentionally slow down the game into slow motion at 1 tick ever 30 seconds if many thousand players are in the same sector. Because sectors cant be split and run by many game servers. So it isnt Server Meshing. People like you confuse Server Meshing with the idea of a Single Universe/Single Shard. Even though they are two distinct separate things. Server Meshing may enable that Single Universe everyone plays in. But it clearly isnt the only implementation to make such a Single Universe work. Other clearly exist, but are not running on "Server Meshing".
of course. I respect the right of anyone to be as wrong as they want! if you are going to play in spite of it you might as well use mine. And who knows, maybe one day its worth playing again. Would like nothing more.
@@barrybarry8564 lol I've been playing for close to 3 months now and I'm still very much addicted to this game. I'm in a large org and we constantly pirating and fighting other orgs in huge battles and its really fun. I know people generally say the game is buggy but honestly in the time I've played I've only encountered a few bugs but nothing game breaking or even a game crash yet. The game is fun if you make it fun. Its not a scam its just a very large one of a kind project with lots of dedicated people behind one of the largest games to ever exist
server meshing isn't some unique thing it's essentially db replication it has some edge cases and your server code needs to be modiifed but it's not magic and most people never bothered becase they just went WOW shard shit
"server meshing isn't some unique thing it's essentially db replication" Thats not what it is... Replication is for data redudancy and data recovery. Server Meshing is about game servers processing and communicating the same game world together. That has nothing to do with the database. Except that the game servers load from that. DB Sharding would have been a better example here because processing is spread out across many DB instances. But that still isnt Server Meshing. Server Meshing happens on the level of the game servers, not the database.
