Iwata was a great person took a 50% pay cut after the Wii U underperformed so drastically after its release. Trust me if you loved star fox our Zelda the Wii U was your thing that Wii U remaster of windwaker was gorgeous. sadly I don’t think the remaster of twilight princess majora mask our ocarina of time have not been put on the switch I don’t recall if those remasters were Wii U our 3ds release twilight princess got a Wii remaster I think in hd.
My Childhood came back. I love the new places and the different turns this game took. You will be missed greatly Star Fox Founder Iwata-san. And thank you for the wonderful Star Fox games in my childhood. R.I.P.
I'll give this game one thumbs up: They did a great job with the prologue. It's so cinematic! I wish they could've brought back the N64 voice actors though.
I never got to play any of the star fox games sadly but I haved loved this franchise ever since meeting fox in Smash Bros 64 and love the story and loved watching people play these games.
I still can't take the walking mech design of the Arwing seriously. It's literally a derpy looking chicken. But the Wolfen's form actually looks pretty cool.
Yea I’m watching this and the only thought that pops in my head is, dumb ass. Seriously it annoys the fuck out of me when players don’t pay attention to something so incredibly friggin simple and in the process make themselves look like a complete idiot. Doesn’t exactly breed much confidence in how they’ll perform.
As a fellow lover of the two original games "Starfox" (Starwing in Europe) for Super Nintendo and Starfox 64 (Lylat Wars in Europe) for the Nintende 64, I just had to get this game. So I bought this right after its release and was simply blown away by the presentation, the mission design and the gameplay. It was fun, nostalgia, challenging at many times and increased in dramatic and over the top situations on the right occasions. I never got the initial hate press and gamers alike felt towards the controls. It was a bit strange at first, but once you really got into the controls, the game was so much more fun and got way more intense than in Starfox's previous iterations. Loved it from the very first second and I like it just as much as our commonly beloved N64 game. Just a shame it's not really a possibility to bring this hidden gem to the Switch due to its gameplay mechanics and reliance on the second screen.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. I’ve been a fan of Starfox since the SNES and I absolutely loved this game when it was released in 2016. The revamping of the N64 story to make it original and fun while paying major respect to the source material was not lost on me (and many other fans). I didn’t mind the controls, and that says a lot considering I have lost much gaming skill over the years. It was so heartbreaking to see the game get so much hate from the gaming community. Good to see other fans here that enjoyed the game and see it for its many merits. 🙂
I play this about 90% of the time the old school way. Motion would be no problem at all for the Switch, and all they would have to do is a smooth transition animation between cockpit view and normal view.
What if we had an Avatar in a Star Fox game? Here’s how it would work: 1. You first choose the character’s gender. It can be male, female, transgender, no-binary, demi-girl or demi-boy (I’m more sure about male and female, but who know?). 2. We could choose the species. The choices are: Cat, bird, fox, rabbit, toad (Not like the ones from Mario), wolf, chameleon, pig, monkey, dog, etc. 3. We could obviously choose the fur color and the eye color. The eyes can have different colors. 4. We could choose the name of the Avatar. 5. We could choose in witch team the character is. The choices are: Star Fox, Star Wolf or Neutral. It’ll affect the story for the Avatar, because the bosses will not be the same. 6. We could choose the outfit for the character. Note that the two teams have exclusive outfit, but the Neutral choice allow the player to choose any outfit. 7. We can choose accessories if we want to.
Great job on this terrific game! This was one of my favorites back when it was first released and one of the reasons I keep my Wii U hooked up. I loved the innovations to the game and some of the major twists they took to keep it fresh. The Zoness level was a bit slow-paced for me, I loved the fast fly-through mission on the N64, but it was still good for what it was. The arwing missions are the best but they made all the vehicles pretty cool. Overall, an amazing game I still love to play!
This is an amazing game, I hate that everybody hates it. It would play so well in vr and it wouldn't need too much to be changed for it to work.... your head tracking would just be assigned to the gyro aiming
Problem is that there aren't any Nintendo VR headsets. I doubt they're going to port it to PS5 or Oculus Quest haha. But I do agree that it would be immensely better with VR controls
@@nicocathelot1139 Trailmakers didn't invent the concept of gimbal turrets nor was it the first to apply it in games. It's a reference to a short made by the creators of "A Fox in Space", StarFox fan project, where Slippy (or another character with the same VA) briefs Pepper on the addition of gimbal to the Arwing's turrets.
As a shmup fan, I have an admiration for the Star Fox series. I don’t understand the low critic scores, don’t know what critics were expecting. From watching the first 30min, it’s looks like fun. Wish they would port it to Switch.
I just got it Friday. Had I known how actually feasible the old school way of playing is, it would have been sooner. My only gripe is the lack of a versus mode :)
This game was a lot of fun! Zoness was boring as hell, and so were some of the timed challenge levels, but everything else was great! If they ever bring this back on Switch, they can assign one joycon to arwing flight and the other to aiming and firing the laser. I imagine a lot of people would find this game more enjoyable if they only had to focus on one screen rather than two. Also, not having an actual radar was painful.
Starfox zero its one of the most tedius and boring games in the wii u If it was great...why there's no more sequels about starfox? Because this game killed the franchise like thieves on time killed sly cooper
@@panuru9175 dude, the last new entry in the series before this one was Command in 2006, barring the 3DS remake of 64. The entire series was dead long before this game came around. None of the games in the series outside of the first three were outlandishly bad or boring, just underwhelming at best. Granted, Zero not spectacular, but it’s still decent. I pretty sure Nintendo isn’t interested in making Star Fox games anymore because they just don’t sell well, regardless of how good they are. Same story with F-Zero.
@chuckbuskee The reason why this game feels like a return to form is because this is yet again another reboot of the series. I guess Command flopped so badly for the series back when it was first released. That's why Nintendo has no choice but to reboot the series from scratch...AGAIN. I mean, how many times do we have to keep fighting Andross, and how many Lylat Wars do we have to deal with? It's time to move on and let it die!
Dont you love it when Miyamoto is in charge of a game, never changing the formula but always telling new people to try new things, good thing he moved to cinema
Man does this game look good, I hope the sales of this game don't affect the star fox franchise because I would really love to see this or a new game on the switch
Considering that this game was for WiiU and the console didn't sell that well, I hope Nintendo ignores the sales of games from this console. Also, they did ported Tokyo Mirage Session that was for WiiU and is not a very popular game so... Yeah Nintendo can port StarFox too... I hope
This is a good game. It gave me nostalgia and new memories when I played it, but looking at two screens was really messing me up, along with recalibrating the laser back in place, and hitting things when All Range Mode was in place, and getting destroyed in the process. Those were the most annoying parts of the game. However, the new mechanics for the Arwing and Landmaster were great, great new dialogue, and graphics were beautiful. If they ever do put this game on the Switch, I'd play it. As of now, I'll play it on the Wii U with the help of another person.
@@amdintelxsniperx Don't forget the targeting mode too (ZL button). Star Fox Zero was developed by Platinum Games, so I could potentially see a similar spilt screen system from the recently released The Wonderful 101 Remastered (drawing with the right stick to transfer the heroes) for the targeting mode happen if Star Fox Zero were to be ported
This game will never be on switch because of the control scheme, it’s deeply ingrained into the scoring system, and this game is all about the highscores (like all Star Fox games). If you ever want to try Star Fox Zero and you’re afraid of the controls, here’s my advice: use the game pad for gameplay, play primarily through the cockpit. The tv or cinematic view is for strategy. Always use full gyro. The half gyro limits your ability to play the game properly. Once you learn to use the controls, you need to learn the mechanics of the game. (This full play through does not show everything you can do in Star Fox Zero). Once you master the mechanics and shoot for really highscores, it fundamentally changes how the game is played each time. The medals are learning tools for mastering the mechanics. Each medal gives you a clue on how you can play the game differently, so pay attention. Personally, this is my favorite game of all time. It’s just misunderstood, heavily misunderstood. Don’t let other peoples opinions make you an “NPC”
I agree. Star Fox Zero should get as much of a second chance as Bayonetta and Wonderful 101. Yeah, a little rebalancing would have to be done, but it would be amazing!
1:46:54 Peppy tells you to "Stay sharp. We can't afford any mistakes." Player immediately rams in to a structure. Whoever recorded this has no control mastery. The previous stage speaks to that for sure.
they should make a star fox zero deluxe for switch where you can play as any character on star fox is if u want, for example, i’d play as falco, and if you play as slippy, you can also analyze the enemy shield
@Linkmstr, Nice Gameplay, loved it! Also, I was wondering if I could use some video footage from this video in a video I'm making about the StarFox Series History and how it might be revived. I would put your channel link and this video link in the description of my video and give you full credit for the Wii U gameplay footage
Best game on Wii U. I think being an avid high score chaser made it easier for me to understand this gameplay. This is light years ahead of what was accomplished on the N64. I wouldn’t say mandatory motion controls werent a mistake. But it was a mistake to make a game where you make the game smarter than the person. You need to fool the person into feeling smart. I think Star Fox has done a poor job teaching people the mechanics over the years. A lot of people like Star Fox 64 but most people are terrible at that game too. Just watch a random let’s play of 64. The massive amount of terrible Star fox players comes from the hang over of being a child in the 90’s and not really having a grip with the gameplay. I was also one of those people. Over the years I figured out the deep mechanics and it made me appreciate these games. Especially zero. There’s so many secrets the average person didn’t find. The missing ingredient is skill. So much content hidden behind skill. Whatever Nintendo does in the future, they need to slow down and teach people how the gameplay loops in a Star Fox game. Massive communication error on their hands right now.
From what I can tell this is basically a remake of 64. Like not perfectly, with slightly different levels in the most part, but extremely close. They added Walker phases to the levels and Andross was a bit different, but identical story.
Andross battle looked tougher in this one, I loved more James role and the fact andross talked during the battle. Ending though I gave to the n64. N64 had u literally fighting his brain like good lord.
Kai, I tell ya I was thanking God yesterday that I had a Wii U. If I hadn't watched The Completionist's Star Fox Zero episode on Thursday, I would have never known how great a game this is. And I wouldn't be playing it right now. I found a copy at Walmart for $15 yesterday :D
Just remember if they made the simple choice of not messing with the gameplay (the new vehicles are cool though) this would have by far been the best star fox game ever and one of the best wii u games
