@@vinylgnome5560 It is worn out. If it's an old saphir one from the 70's, it needs to be replaced after approx. 100 hours of use. A diamond-tipped one may last up to 1000h. If a stylus reaches its end of life, the sound gets more and more unclear, muffled, distorted, scratchy and harsh. Compare the sound quality from your vinyl to other vinyl (or digital source), then you know, what I mean. Yours is already badly worn (actually more distortion than music). It WILL (and may already did) damage your records if you continue using it! The stylus is supposed to be replaceable. Read the manual of your record player to see how it can be replaced and which stylus is needed. The thumb rule, when you need a new stylus: If the last song of each record starts to distort, it's time to order a new one (Yours distorts through the whole record already^^). Furthermore, I'm not sure if you don't use a proper RIAA-phono-preamp or if the lack of bass is due to the worn stylus.

@@vinylgnome5560Ok, your record player look old^^. If the record player is new and not used much yet, then it is unlikely that the stylus is worn. But it is very unlikely too that you only have worn records. One single record with that degree of wear is hard to get. Visible scratches don't really matter. The real damages are invisible in most of cases. You can have ugly looking records that play fine, and vice-versa. The music itself is deep inside the groove. What you see as scratches is just the surface between the grooves, where the stylus doesn't run. Probably, the stylus got chipped or broken instead. This would be highly dangerous to the records (sharp edges on the stylus, making it a knife that cuts the music out of the grooves). Anyway, something is very wrong with your record player. Records aren't supposed to sound like that :). You shouldn't put valuable records on it until it is fixed.

@@vinylgnome5560 Other causes may be: - Tracking force way off the correct value (tone arm too heavy or too light) - Bad adjusted stylus cartridge (I'm not sure if you can adjust it) - Bad tone arm bearings (then, the records tend to skip back randomly without any corresponding damages on the record) - You exposed all your records without their sleeves to the sun or store them nearby a heat radiator for a longer time - Just something broken in electronics or in your stereo that ends up in severe distortion (unlikely to my ears, the distortion doesn't sound like that)
