Another badass scene in 'Mirror, Mirror' is when Spock informs Kirk that the former has received an order to kill if the latter does not comply, followed by Spock warning Sulu not to have funny ideas if Spock takes over the captain's seat. :)
Wow yeah me too. I am 51 now and have been a big Trek fan since I was a little kid. And I still never get tired of watching it. Star Trek TOS certainly had it's own very distinct style that is just very memorable!
"So you die, Captain. And we all move up in rank." The problem with dramas is that the bad guy always talks too much instead of just doing the bad deed. Then his plan always fails.
I love the sickbay brawl, later on. After Kirk headbutts Spock, then gives him an elbow, Spock backhands Kirk, then lays the biggest two handed right cross that knocks Kirk across the room. That hit always makes me go WOW!!! Here it is.....ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UE-rhcFfOEA.html
Lost In Space was much more serious in the first season. It got watered down in season 2 because their producers didn't think there could be 2 serious sci fi shows on at the same time.
Kirk indeed disobeyed prime orders of the Empire! Assassination was in order! Chekov is good example of true Terran Warrior that would move up in rank if any upper officer shows weakness!
The Klingons used this form of promotion. If a commanding officer showed weakness or dishonor during combat it was the duty of the secondary officers to "retire" the commander.
Star Trek: Enterprise had an episode with the Mirror Universe as well, which revealed more of its development. The episode was called "In a Mirror, Darkly". Also, it was not the Federation in this universe, it was a faction called the Terran Empire. In Enterprise it was revealed that the Terran Empire existed on earth before Warp Technology, and that when first contact with the Vulcans was made, Zefram Cochrane shot the first Vulcan on Earth, allowing Humans to obtain their tech and conquer them
I watched it. You have to give humans credit. It is like Native Americans killing Columbus, seizing his ships and conquering Europe and the Arab world with their newly-minted fleet.
The Mirror Universe shown in Enterprise was not necessarily the same one shown in the Original Series though. The Terran Empire in the Original Series didn't seem to have an issue with aliens like they did in the Enterprise Mirror Universe story.
Chekov: 'So you die, captain. We all move up in rank. No one will question the assassination of a captain who has disobeyed prime orders of the empire.' That would be one way of human resource management. Promotion through assassinating one's own superiors ...... o_0
Urvy1A Yup. Sometimes I wish we could pull off Chekov in our world. For example, in the wake of the 2008 economic implosion, overhaul the top brass in the finance industry through assassination. :D
In the Mirror Universe, time may move differently: their mission may be much longer than 5 years! But even so, would you want to be aboard a ship for even a fraction of that time if everyone around you wanted your job/quarters/rations, etc. and were willing to *kill* you for it? Not me, not unless I had telepathy to warn me of such attempts on my life and a couple of well-charged hand phasers and extra power packs for each.
when spock said "...Commence phaser barrage on halkan cities", i knew this was going to be a very different kind of star trek episode and it was one of the very best.
Open palm strikes to the face are actually more effective than using your first since the skull is hard it would hurt the attackers hand more than the receivers face.
No. They were conquered and their home planet annihilated. Then the rest of the Klingon joined the Cardacians and launched a rebellion as brutal as the rule of the empire was.
Anyone notice riding that elevator that Chekov didn't have that gold wrap around his waist at first. He just had an agonizer and a phaser. Then when they get off the elevator he's wearing the gold wrap and there is a knife instead of an agonizer but he still has the phaser. Hilarious!!
Yeah that is funny. I love Star Trek TOS to death. But it had issues with those sort of things. Another good example bieng Kirk's elevator ride in Charlie X where Kirk goes to bridge with Charlie wearing one shirt but exits on the bridge wearing a different one.
It might have been interesting if the Halkan Council leader had said, 'Resist you? What are you talking about? We agreed to your demands already!' Kirk: Uh... I must have misunderstood.
@FreezeHero71 Because the Federation developed as a conquering empire instead of a peaceful federation in that alternate timeline. I do not believe an explanation was given; perhaps most of the races involved never developed self-control, and the others were wiped out.
The Empire was probably only going to a once off story - Scotty's warning of the way the two universes were diverging at the end of the episode would see to imply the directorial team were just going to play it the once. It's popularity managed to get it included in DS9 and Enterprise as well, on screen, and a novel set in TNG's arc, where they go further into the Empire's background.
Even Klingons seem to have better order than this when it comes to taking out leaders (though that seems to depend on what era). The Terran Empire either could have never worked or had become more degenerate towards it's later years
Serious, guys? The best you could do is punching (or whatever that was) Kirk and taking your sweet time to shoot him in a universe where you have phasers and can kill your superiors to advance?
Oh really? I actually miss the greatest economy we had in 50 years, gas at $2 a gallon, energy independence, real criminal justice reform, a stronger border, and no new overseas wars...
