How many times has a would-be killer been thwarted by talking too much? It's happened thousands of times in movies and TV. Sulu could've come in with phasers blazing, and then stabbed the dead bodies of Kirk and Spock to make it look like they killed each other. But no, Sulu has to yak it up a bit, thereby letting the viewer know his motive for the foul deed, and so on and so forth ...
