new Discovery is actually good! I can't wait until we get Legacy as we all know we WILL get. Star Trek is improving and its not "nu-Trek" anymore. Now its nu-2.0 and its better. This is the stuff that feels like TNG Trek!
i was hoping they would have at least shown how artificial gravity works when they're in a gravity well but not oriented in a way that would put the ship's artificial gravity parallel to the planet's gravitational force. Does everybody go flying into the walls? Do they have to buckle in? Or is it a more gradual slide since the ship's artificial gravity is still pulling them to the floor while the planet pulls them into the walls? maybe if they turned up the artificial gravity high enough, then static friction will be strong enough to hold them to the floor, but then that's obviously going to make it very difficult to walk or even stand....
Three cheers for Nitpicking Nerd for having watched 4 seasons of this shite. Hip hip, hip hip, hip hip .... horay! Now NPN, go get yourself a treat. You deserved it!
@@ZeeL4J8C2 I honestly thought he'd give up like the rest of us. He must have some special feature in his brain that lets him watch this crap without it giving him an aneurysm.
@lawrencemanning he is sacrificing himself so we don't have to watch this. Can only imagine the nightmares he suffers through. But we are united in our disdain for Discovery
In the opening credits STD lists 22 producers..... TWENTY TWO. And in the end credits they list 2 more Assoc producers. This is the ultimate example of creating a stupid show by committee.
when a show has that many producers, it means they were having issues getting funding for the show. Usually, you have 2-3 wealthy producers covering all the costs. If it is that bad, no producer is willing to cover the risk all by themselves, it's one thing to lose 1 million, but 50 million is a big risk. They probably got 22 producers paying a million or 2 million each, so no one producer loses too much money.
Michael Burnham is better than all the other Captains because she doesn't need to rely on her ship's officers or specialists for viewpoints or options. She only asked Tilly to do some research because she has access to the Starfleet Academy Library. And Burnham knows the name of the only planet that has two moons. Burnham is also the best because like all great officers she refuses to learn from her mistakes. Commit treason and get sentenced to life on a penal colony? Easy, just be super lucky enough to have your crippled shuttle rescued by your equally treasonous mirror universe boyfriend who has carte blanche to free you and give you a job. Then proceed to disobey every damn order given to you for the next five seasons because your plot armour is stronger than transparent aluminium. And Michael is the best Captain because she is a traitor and her boyfriend is a traitor and hopefully they will raise a family of the most treasonous children in the history of Star Fleet. She's just the best.
The point about the planet with the 2 moons gets worse because Burnham is from the pre-TOS era, so her knowledge of the galaxy would just be reduced to the quadrant or even a few star systems. I wonder if the writers will rip-off the SG-1 season 8 finale with the Ancient machine that can create and destroy life. Also I wish they would have let that Progenitors episode alone, there's a reason why no other show went back to that story.
I was thinking, in addition to many other things, that they could circumvent the entire episode if they just offered the scavengers some money, they hand over the book, everyone goes away happy and the entire show ends right there. I was also annoyed that a 600+ year old android would just get killed like that, as if he didn't know from hundreds of years of experiences that underpaying these kinds of people would result in violence. He should also have reflexes so fast that he could shoot both of them before they were able to react.
Star Trek Discovery? I thought I was watching Star Wars Discovery. 🤷🏼♂️ Not only were the visuals ripped off Star Wars at times, all of a sudden the music is now heavily Star Wars. WTF!?!
The whole part where they crash the ships into the planet to protect the city is comedy gold! Easily funnier than anything LD came up with! Wait, it was supposed to be taken seriously? Well then... That just makes me laugh even harder!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
with these 2 episodes, i had a feeling, that an AI had to write it. Taking stuff from other franchises, not adding anything on top, Dialogue that makes no sense, behavior that makes no sense, no real exposition, stuff just happens in order to other stuff to happen.
This topic has been analyzed brilliantly by the RU-vid channel Mollie and the Old Man, after they watched a lot of SNW. In 2023, they did a video titled "Are We Watching Episodes Written By AI? Mollie Tries Out ChatGPT"
20:05 I also thought up that transporter question when Book and Michael take the time to get into the turbolift, for drama I guess, even though they could zap around anywhere on the ship.
@@stopgeorge Yeah that was utterly ridiculous, That made no sense why they did that, treating the ship as a Tardis like it was something out of Doctor who.
my favorite part of that was the goofy window shown in S2 where you can see the thing zipping around while walking down the corridor, as if you were at ATL airport near the trams. Ship isn't that big, yo.
They have been trying to get rid of the Spore drive ever since season one. They stole the idea and virtual plot from Anas Abdin, got away with it, and Now because they realize having Instant transmission can solve most plot complications, they have to pretend it's not longer a thing. I bet you they will bring it back when the writers can't figure out how to story correctly.
the worst part was when she breaks out of the romulan ship and the bad-guys' ship is only a few dozen meters away, even though transporter technology was already advanced enough to have it anywhere in orbit (including the opposite side of the planet!) over 1000 years ago during Enterprise but somehow it's conveniently parked right next to the hole they blew in the hull to suck michael burnham out into space. Also when Tilly is "hacking the federation database", she's actually just reading through 21st-century Windows API headers. This is also what Michael Burnham was reading in the second episode of the series when she was on Discovery in the 23rd century but she wasn't allowed to know about the spore drive yet so paul gave her a boring job "reconciling code" in Discovery's engineering bay. In addition to being lazy and anachronous, it also wouldn't even make sense even if somehow they were still using Microsoft Windows 1000+ years into the future because those files are publicly available, and all they do is tell computer programs how they can locate and use code provided by the operating system to programs; there's nothing in the win32 API headers that actually does anything.
That's why they keep a tribble on board. Since they multiply so rapidly, it's the only food source they can reproduce quickly enough for Tilly without exhausting the rest of their food supply.
24:33 Wait a minute. What happened to the actress who plays Tilly? They said she put on some weight because maybe she was pregnant, but this is ridiculous.
thats called fat shaming and its SO uncool to comment on a character's structure like that. its 2024 my dude and should no way reflect the character or story.
Fred was my favorite part too! I don't get the interaction that got him killed. If they didn't like his offer, why did he withhold the thing? That's not how trading things to shady merchants work.
in the voy episode with the cpt randson and the equinox starfleet had a protocol about two captains on the same mission and capt Janeway said that which ship is tactical superior is in charge and who has been captain the longest as well in other ranks seniority over officers with same rank, also have they not hear of beaming all the town people some where else to save then of extend the shield to protect the town and why does the town not have shields them selfs or planetary shields as well the writers have no idea what universe there writing in
That line about Altan Soong didn't make sense. It would, if Soong was someone Stamets could remember back from the 23rd century. But Soong lived later, so Stamets could only learn about him from the 32nd century's historic record. It's as if we were shocked now that Genghis Khan is still being talked about. And the line about Fred having family to inform was so stupid. Minor characters die left and right in Star Trek and no one ever says anything like that, but Burnham has to say this about an android, to show off how empathetic she is. And then, if Fred's memory is intact, then in what way is he dead? Can't his brain be recreated from one positronic neuron?
Every time space Jesus is in a life or death situation, she acts like she's on a Rollercoaster, it's ridiculous, and as far as taking security, if Super Burnham took a security force in the second episode I'm sure her captain would've gotten killed, but she's a stunning a brave 5'5 85lb super solider, she doesn't need anyone 😒🤦🏽♂️
the whole thing also feels extremely small (one more thing I hate about it) the federation feel like in consists of only a handful of people since we see those few over and over again. the galaxy itself feels super small too since you can just be anywhere you want in minutes. there is no feeling of being on a star trek anymore, they aren't out there far away from others exploring the unknown. They just drive around the neighborhood a little bit playing space karens.
Yeah, that's probably where they got it. But that is also how the "afterlife" looked when Q was talking to Picard after he died in TNG. But in that instance it wasn't a thing used by living people to have a secret meeting, so Invincible is probably where they got it from.
During the entire episode I was only irritated by one person: Michael Burnham. She’s insufferable, annoying, arrogant, smug and insubordinate the whole time. She always has to make all decisions, she is always right, everyone has to listen to her opinion and she ignores every order and advice she gets and she always gets away with it all. I don’t understand why that ship needs other officers at all as they only need Burnham to do, know and solve everything.
@@NitpickingNerd or why didn't they land or hover above the city and expanded the shields to protect it? I'm sure with 2 ships they would have enough power to do it.
In the opening of the first episode Burnham is on the ship and she goes woah! And that's because she is suddenly a lower decks character because lower decks is popular. She goes that's not what I thought was going to happen tonight. And that's why you say she's like Spider-Man or somebody said that. The split screen was so dumb. I completely forgot about the two moon thing. My God.
Very good point about Genesis being more powerful than anything The Progenitors ever did, NN. The Chase was simply more of a grand archaeological origins story. I thought the premise was silly, but it had nothing to do with "power" in the end.
Gave up after series 3 frankly hated every element of the show at that point couldn't even bring myself to start series 4 one of the worst editons to any franchise I have ever stuck with, I don't even want to watch this video I'm just giving context it's so bad it's not worth hate watching of any of the reviews the shows 30 plus writers at this point deserver nothing certainly not your time.
Same, I think I gave up after about 3 episodes in Season two and felt that the reviews from NPN (which are about as long as the shows episodes) was much more enjoyable.
Funny they can access the Androids memory but DATA said in First Contact "The codes stored in my neural net cannot be forcibly removed", how did they get the data out of a Soong droid?
@@MusicSustainsMe I was going to say that with 31st century tech they might do what 24th century Borg could not . but I rewatched the scene and turns out Stemets did it with old 23d century tech that he had in storage . so yeah it's stupid .
10:15 Here I kinda have to defend STD as much as I don't like it. Mummies exist and we don't know what temperature or air humidity was on that ship. Natural mummification can occur if the air is dry and hot (which would also track with conditions of Romulus the crew would want to replicate) plus romulan bodies may decay differently.
maybe if there are no germs ect is possible . still they should have just said they turned the heat back on and that's why the body didn't fully decompose because it was frozen
it never made sense why they needed to be made as twins. it's as if the writers of Picard thought "wait, Data had a twin that must mean all Androids are made as twins" (even though Data had other brothers but they didn't know that)
It's ironic that Burnham being captain is so important to the producers, but since Starfleet and the Federation have no real structure in this show, she in no way commands the authority of a Kirk or Picard. There's no defined chain of command around her. She does whatever she wants to anyway, so what's the difference? Also adding a stem bolt or other fan reference is just to placate fans. They don't really understand Star Trek. These shows should be creating new memorable props and characters, not borrowing old ones.
it's actually not impossible for the two moons to move parallel. yes, they have to be at different distances. but if they have different masses, then their speeds would be different and their angular speeds could technically be the same. but this would be almost infinitely improbable.
The one farther away would have to move faster than the one closer to the planet. It is nearly impossible especially since the 2 moons are identicle in size . Mass is a factor but the difference betweem them would have to be huge. Normally the closer you are to the planet the faster you have to move to avoid crushing down. Here its the opposide and the more distant moon is moving faster without flying out of orbit so it has to be have a huge mass.. the lighter moon would be ripped apart by gravity from both sides
@@NitpickingNerd no, gravity doesn't rip things apart. that's not how it works. except in a black hole, probably. but the inner moon, the one between the planet and the outer moon, would simply lose a little bit of its weight (relative to the planet) due to the gravity of the outer moon. think about it: when a plane is flying between Earth and our moon, it doesn't get ripped apart. it only gets a little bit lighter. back to the episode, i don't know why you're saying the two moons are identical in size. did they say that in the episode? mass is literally the only relevant factor, not just "a factor". also, we don't know how much difference is between the two orbits of the two moons. if the difference isn't very large, then the two moons wouldn't have to be extremely different in mass. technically, it wouldn't be an impossible thing to achieve at all. but it would have to be very precisely calculated. when i said it's almost infinitely improbable, i meant it would be very unlikely to occur naturally. the masses of the two moons would have to be at the exact right ratio to each other, in order for them to go in tandem. there would probably be a little bit of a margin of error, because the two moons would also attract each other. so even if the masses were a little bit off, they could still go in tandem, because going out of sync would require more energy than staying in sync. in any case, the series is idiotic.
@@ElevenEvilExes Of course gravity rips cellestrial bodies apart, its called the Roche Limit. You can't compare it with a plane as its own mass is absolutly not significant. Also, Jupiters moons have thermal activity because of the friction caused by Jupiters gravity. It may work though when both moons are tidally locked and at their La-Grange-Points of each other.
But Soong himself (The original) made an android (S7E10 Inheritance) that was so lifelike that she herself thought she was human, and it wasn't until Data recognized a pattern in her blinking that she was found out. I guess that tech was just lost, despite all of the Soongs being masters at android technology.
My thoughts on "The Infinity Room". Do they have the powers of "Q" now? Remember when TNG actually took the time to describe the holodeck technology and create interesting sci fi stories based on this technology? Nu Trek is distinctly written by and presented to the incurious.
It is just more plagerism, STD is littered with ideas stolen from other popular shows and even games like Mass Effect. The Infinity Room is basically the secret invisible room used by the government in the show Invinsible that has just finished season two, I had not seen it before that show and oh look...its in STD the day after Invinsible's Finale.
@@temparalflux914 TNG used it when Q encountered Picard in one episode after he died. The Matrix used it back in the 90's as well. But my point really was -- how does this relate to "reality"? What is happening here for them to be in this white space? No explanation whatsoever. Nothing matters or means anything in Nu Trek. It just "is".
The Genesis Device is conveniently forgotten in all of Trek, long before this. Like why wasn't it considered as a weapon during the Dominion War, for example?
Star Wars vibes were strong in this one, even some specific phrases. They could use you know AI if they are not able to come up with original ideas (or maybe stick to Star Trek you know).
Kurtzman, stop trying to make red a thing. I know its you since its been happening since 2009 trek. I also I have a prediction for this season: the new guy in charge is part of Section 31, but now they are trying to prove they've been the good guys all along.
"The guy with the glasses appear there..." halarious. I also don't remember his name, neither that of the admiral and all other crew members. I watched those two episodes in fast forward with skipping everytime the are alone in a room, because there were alsways those "sad sad" scenes. Ep 2 I brake up in the middle, it was too bad - I couldn't get my eyes open.
Cool, even more of the same sh*t: - a lot of action and chasing scenes - check - a macguffin to be had - check - Burnham at the brink of tears - check - a mystery with galaxy-affecting consequences - check AAAND I'm out!!!
He lets them work together: You're right on that, first off you know they will get into conflict later, second, why not just make Michael the leader since no matter what the other guy suggests, she won't follow orders anyway and will do whatever she wants. 😂
@@stopgeorge Not true. This is something sci fi does now. Its a cyberpunk thing. It may be annoying to some but its about accepting it and moving on my bro lol. Its not 1999 anymore as much as u wish it. I get it. Or when they changed muggles in Harry Potter to NoMags in the newer stuff. Theres a certain sound writers know the studios wanna hear. You gotta accept it. And the reason why is...that language isn't going anywhere so the other option is just dont watch. The studios of Paramount also know what they are talking about and many people should subscribe and download the app and there are deals to be found. Any issue can be directly relayed to their easy-to-use website. Dont trust Netflix. Paramount+ and CBS is the best entertainment has to offer and they treat their talent very well and fair.
That scene with Tilly at the beginning of the show was the definition of cringe. I'm surprised. She outdid herself being one of the worst characters in Star Trek. She may be ahead of Ortega now in that category.
Ah, and the thing with two moons in different circular orbits being in sync doesn't make sense in physics. The orbital period depends only on the radius, not eg. on the object's mass.
