Totally agree, I couldn't stop my eyes 'leaking' the whole way through. Words cant express how much I love this composition. Gerry Goldsmith at his very best ❤
TNG theme at the start was too fast and too staccato, but very few orchestras get it right live. When it got to the First Contact theme, it was pretty much spot on.
Technically it's not the Next Generation theme, but it's the Star Trek motion picture theme, which is why it's played at that tempo. They also use it as the "Star Trek" theme in the movies.
they just don't make them like they used to... Even by today's standard, the movie is ahead of its time (the interior of the ship, outer hull design and uniforms are AWESOME)
1:25 - 3:30 Theme of "Star Trek: First Contact" 3:43 - 4:54 Theme of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" Very pleased to hear both back-to-back as the closing theme of "Star Trek: Picard" Season 3. Both represent the best movie and the best TV series in the "Star Trek" franchise 🖖
We played this theme at my dad's funeral 2 weeks ago. I had a strong connection to my dad through star trek and this movie was my dad's most favorite. He wasn't interested in music that much so we decided to play this song and it fitted better then I thought.
I understand from comments elsewhere that the man who played the solo horn so masterful for the original piece passed away, may he live long and prosper where ever he now finds himself.
this is my ever best favorit theme , and is maybe the best opening by any STAR TREK mouvie Capten Piccar go somwhere out there thyrd star at left , WARP 9!
Back when Hollywood (or perhaps just the music legends we no longer have) tried to give each movie a true cinematic theme. Now it's just mostly forgettable background tracks.
Yeah the first part was a little fast but not too much. I've heard faster BTW. Once they started playing the First Contact theme it slowed down to what we hear in the soundtrack. Really good work on this emotional score. Also really good recording! I take it wasn't recorded on a phone? I had it blasting on my headphones and I already played it 3 times. :D
It's crazy to know that both the "ST:TMP" theme & the entire "First Contact" score were rush jobs & Goldsmith wrote them at the 11th hour. Absolutely genius work.
I would say job well done for a middle school and high school band and orchestra...yes, the beginning was way too fast but they had to make some part of it different or they would have faced a copy right infringment lawsuit, also they were more then likely on a time schedule, nervous, etc....but then they found their bearings, settled down and did an outstanding job for only being what I would say are only middle and high school age kids, so keep that in mind when leaving a comment folks and be kind because these kids were just beginners.
This First Contact theme was very moving. I wondered if the conductor had been inspired by what Khan - from the film "Star Trek: Into Darknes" - was wearing when first seen, especially on 'Kronos'?
Hands-down the best Star Trek movie ever made. But the best theme must still go to Insurrection, even though the movie felt like a regular TNG episode.
the first part is too fast but after that it was ok, but as some have mentioned because of the time and it being a school event that's the likely reason it was played that way. otherwise everyone was probably nervous and finally settled down after first section
Many here say this was a tad too fast but it sounded okay to me. The conductor and orchestra deserve great kudos for not making any errors (lots of live performances have fluffs made in the brass sections) and playing the music the way Goldsmith wrote it. God how I miss Jerry! God how I miss proper soundtracks coming out of Hollywood instead of the synth crap that seems to have taken hold with no leitmotif at all.
