Star Trek has a long history of great starships called the Enterprise - and an equally long history of blowing those ships to smithereens. screenrant.com/star-trek-ente... screenrant.com/ / screenrant / screenrant
The death of the original 1701 in ST:III will always be the most painful. Up until then, they always managed to bring the Big E home. After that and getting the 1701-A, it became an accepted way to update or refresh the franchise, but when the 1701 went down we were in shock and complete disbelief. It didn't seem possible.
My Parents were 16 when TOS came out. They said when spock died in ST-2 Everyone in the theater cried. Then in part 3 when the ship was destroyed everyone either cried or got really mad.
The D actually got destroyed a lot, when you think about: - Time Squared (definetly) - Yesterdays Enterprise (almost) - in a loop in "Cause and Effect" - All good things (twice, the future one survived) - twice in Generations (once per timeline)
shame they destroyed it for nothing cause CGI would have taken care of the reasons for the destruction it was just a waste of money when you think about it cause they destroyed it made a new model then went full on into CGI someone should have at least checked on the state of CGI before going yeah we have no choice the D must go Boom
I saw star trek 3 the search for spock opening weekend. We did not know they were going to destroy the original enterprise. We could not believe it. When that scene was over that audience was stone cold silent. With some people had tears running down their face.
When I first saw The search for Spock, when the Enterprise blew up, I felt that I.lost a best friend in 1984. How ever, in 1986, at the end of The voyage home, a brand new Enterprise was waiting. I still remember one woman in front of me saying to herself.." My god, it's the Enterprise ." never forget that moment from 1986.😄
I knew it was going to be blown up. My sister was hobnobbing with a couple of the cast members and they revealed details of the script with her. But still, i had to see it to believe it.
I wasn't into Star Trek at that point, but both my mother and older brother cried when the Enterprise was destroyed. 2 years later when I( was turned out), I watched the Search for Spock and was saddened deeply, but my tears were for the death of Spock.
@@Foebane72 Yes aquatics were on the Enterprise D as Cetacean Ops was mentioned in the Season 5, episode 21 show 'The Perfect Mate' and on background plans in 'Yesterday's Enterprise', Season 3, episode 15. You are correct in that aquatics were never shown in any of the Star Trek Next Generation shows and movies. Aquatics are shown in Star Trek Lower Decks animation episode 'Second Contact'.
Actually the original USS Enterprise is the one that broke many hearts of Star Trek fans, rather than the USS Enterprise-D, but both are pretty heartbreaking to see them go. Also the USS Enterprise-E is also one of the most abused enterprises of the Star Trek series after the kelvin USS Enterprise, from nearly getting taken over by The Borg in first contact, getting engulfed in smoke in Insurrection and getting nearly destroyed by the scimitar in Nemesis.
I agree with this, the destruction of the original NCC-1701 definitely had a more profound impact I think. Esp since the whole reason the NCC 1701 D was destroyed was because they wanted a new ship for the big screen I guess they felt the Galaxy Class didn't look good in the movies, I think it looked fine personally esp with the redone bridge. Even still if the Enterprise D had to be destroyed I think it should have been because a more intense battle then with an old Bird of Prey that belonged in a space junkyard, got a raw deal on that one.
Same here. It didn't help that Picard's brother and nephew died shortly before the movie in a house fire thus ending the lineage of the Picard family unless of course you regard Star Trek Online as canon over Star Trek Picard.
If you were making fun of Nemesis based on ratings from Rotten Tomatoes , I wouldn't base my opinion on theirs , since they were the ones that gave The Last Jedi very high ratings , a movie which was despised , ridiculed , and made fun of by most Star Wars fans and other movie goers who maybe aren't into Star Wars . I prefer to have my own opinion on it , and frankly , I liked Nemesis , it just had some tough competition at the box office when it came out , I think that was a lot of the reason that it wasn't a big box office success . In fact , I still think Nemesis is better than it's predecessor , Insurrection , and it's certainly better than Discovery and Picard .
I think Rotten Tomatoes should shut their pie holes, Disband, And let the people decide what they want to watch, Besides, I think those idiots are nothing but spoil sports.
We now know the NX, A, and D are at the Fleet Museum. B's fate has been explored in apocrypha, but not in anything official. E's fate is also left vague in Picard season 3, but was lost in battle in Star Trek Online.
Everybody assumes that the Enterprise-A was a new ship. Why would Starfleet use an old Design (Remember the Excelsior was the new design of Starship) to build a starship just for Kirk? For the record, The USS Enterprise-A was formerly the USS Yorktown that was decommissioned. It was pulled out of mothballs and given a complete overhaul with the most advanced Starfleet soft and hardware. That's why it was malfunctioning all through Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (The movie that should have never been made). Some of the hard-wired systems (those that couldn't be removed, had trouble interfacing with the newer components.
That's one of several explanations. One of the other ones is that it was the last Constitution class, but built to the Refit specs, and was going to be called the TI-Ho. And the malfuntions were the revenge of the folks who originally worked on Excelsior and worked on the new Enterprise, for what Scotty did to the Excelsior.
Unpopular opinion: I liked Nemesis! The idea of the life we live shapes us as a person really fascinated me and it was nice to see a battle where there was no recycled C.G.I
The Enterprise-B was most likely destroyed, since Excelsior class starships were considered to be the workhorses of the fleet, and still in service at the time that the Enterprise-D was first launched, so there would be very little reason for Starfleet to decommission such a long lasting starship like the Excelsior class Enterprise-B for no good reason while it's sister ships keep flying through the stars. Also, I'm pretty sure that the reason for why the Enterprise-A was decommissioned had absolutely nothing to do with the battle damage that the ship received during its battle with a rogue faction of Klingons in "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country".
The destruction of the original Enterprise in TSFS was gut-wrenching. Now it’s about as emotionally impactful as watching the Rebel Alliance blow up the Death Star. Again.
Nope. The Enterprise A is in a museum whereas the B went missing in action in 2329. And the amount of fire returned by the D to this tiny BoP was just ridiculous. A full volley of Phasers and Torpedoes would have blasted this wimp away in a split second.
I just realized something. In the Search for Spock only the saucer part of the enterprise explodes despite the engines being in the lower part of the ship, the part connected to the two warp nacelles. Why?
If you want to get nerdy: The damage sustained during the battle with the Reliant in "Wrath of Khan" theoretically could have damaged electronic and mechanical portions of the self-destruct system. When Scotty jerry-rigged the systems through the automation center to allow a skeleton crew to operate the ship for a return to Genesis in "The Search for Spock", power and other system resources would have been diverted from, supposedly, unnecessary sytems. I doubt Scotty or anyone else thought they would be using the self-destruct sequence.
The destruct 0 command doesn't fully destroy the ship it renders the ship useless by enemies, however cause of the proximity to Genesis the gravity pulled the ship into the atmosphere
I remember reading some comments about that. From what I recall, there's different codes for different AD sequences. Destruct Sequence 0 being what we saw in STIII, and Destruct Sequence 1 or higher resulting in the entire ship being destroyed by way of mixing the matter and antimatter uncontrollably. Because of the ship's proximity to Genesis, Kirk opted for DS0. A matter/antimatter explosion would have, possibly, caused damage to Genesis.
I was 18 in 1994. AND TO THIS DAY, I'm still pissed that despite everything Enterprise D went through....she got destroyed by a shitty Bird Of Prey....
As far as I'm concerned, and NOT counting the Kelvin time-line B.S. On the big screen TWO Enterprises were destroyed. NCC-1701, by self destruct, and NCC-1701-D by warp core breach.
We found out that 1701-D made a return to serve to fight the Borg again in PICARD: season 3! Very emotional and very beautiful! Many Trekkies cried tears of joy to see 1701-D again! Even I bawled my eyes out! That's my ENTERPRISE that I grew up with! The saucer was salvaged from the planet, the stardrive section is from a second ship, and the nacelles are from a third ship! So it's KINDA sorta the 1701-D but it's not... shutting up now 🤐
If one will listen carefully to Captain Kirk's final log at the end of Star Trek 6, it becomes clear that it was not the intention of the writers that the Enterprise-A itself be decommissioned--only the command crew. The introduction of the Enterprise-B in GENERATIONS (without any explanation as to why the A was not around) is one of several plot holes that tarnished that movie.
and SPOILER today we find out that the Enterprise D, is in fact, back in service! Under the command of... lol Cpt Picard! They used Majel Barrett's voice, and of course since she has passed away, they do not have her saying Adm Jean Luc Picard. Man, Picard season 3 really tugged on the heart strings today!
Remember that the opening to generations happened just months after ST:VI enterprise b was going to be enterprise a if they didn't decide to honor Kirk & Co for saving the earth in ST:IV
At the start of ST VI, we're told the crew are about to retire "Perhaps they're throwing us a retirment party". It's possible that it was always the plan for the Enterprise A to be decommissioned at this point, and the crew decided to retire at that point. Or maybe, if 1701-A was a renamed/numbered ship only slightly younger than the original NCC1701, it was just decided to keep it in service as NCC1701-A until such a point as the crew retired, then decommision it.
Something happend to the E that wasn't Worf's fault. The F got decommisioned, and the G has just started it's career(although it was the titan A beforehand).
Fortunately it was not the end of enterprise D geordi spent several years rebuilding it, by reclaiming the saucer section and rebuilding the drive section from other decommissioned ships...
The 1701-A was said to be the renamed USS Yorktown(NCC 1704). Yorktown was the original name picked for the 1701. The 1701-D was a 1701-D Class ship. 3 times Picard said "It's the first one."
The Enterprise-D was the first fully operational Galaxy class. The USS Galaxy however left spacedock first (with an NX registry), was commissioned second and was a test-bed until 2365, The Yamato was the second built but was fully operational a few months after the Enterprise. TNG Technical manual.
Some sources state the 1701-A was the Ti-Ho, a newly built Constitution class built in the refit style. Ti-Ho was built along side the Excelsior as a companion ship to test transwarp computer systems. I personally like this better because it explains why she was malfunctioning in ST V, she was a test ship that was never meant to be an explorer, ;D
@@leondillon8723 No, the original USS Enterprise NCC-1701, was a Constitution class starship, originally just labelled as a Starship Class. When she was refit she became a Constitution Class/ Enterprise subclass. Ships built in the subclass style were called Constitutions. USS Constellation was just a Constitution class with a low registry number. A couple others had lower numbers as well. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Enterprise_(NCC-1701) Her class is clearly stated here. You can look it up on Memory Alpha too. memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/USS_Enterprise_(NCC-1701)
@@Adam_Gunia The USS Enterprise(NCC 1701) was part of the USS Constellation(NCC 1017) Class First Flight. It was upgunned to the Second Flight's level. By your theory the USS Iowa(BB 61) is a USS Wisconsin(BB 64)Class.
You forgot one. Finally episode of TNG, Riker swoops in and saves the day in what the old Star Fleet Tech Manual called a Dreadnought class with 3 warp nacelles. But it's 1701D, so its a Q alternate time line.
I think the the one that hit me the most.. is the one for the search for Spock.. when the captain said what have we done.. what was necessary.. and watching the Enterprise burn up in the atmosphere.. quite a few people had tears in their eyes at that theater.. the other one is when commander data.. got his emotion chip.. and they was about ready to crash the Enterprise. And he said oh shit.. there was quite a bit of laughter in the theater having the Android say oh shit was a good one
Kelvan timeline Enterprise was an effing joke. Prime timeline survived Romulans, Klingons, Tholians and a massive planet killer with a friggin streaming anti-matter cannon, not to mention everything under Pike and April's command. (and remember peeps...Discovery made Robert April canon) Maybe 25 years or more of active service. She was a tough old girl. Abrams made it look like the ship was made out of paper or spun glass as fragile as he made her look. Total insult and joke to me but not a shock since Pinheadbrams can't work within established cannon anyway.
@@dalethelander3781 they did... pretty good episode too. But there was always this debate about whether or not the animated series was considered canon
It's the NX-01, not NX-1701. Columbia was NX-02, and later ships in that class kept the NX prefix, but the numbers never got as high as 1701. Later ship classes took on the NX prefix for the first ship in its class in tribute to this pioneering class of ships. For example, USS Excelsior was NX-2000 and USS Defiant was NX-74205. While not mentioned on screen yet, it's likely the USS Constitution was NX-1700.
Whats happen with the USS Enterprise 1701 A ? I dont know If its a part of Star Trek canon, but in William Shatners Novel " the ashes of Eden" Capt. Kirk stole the Enterprise A who was out of duty without tactical Equipments, weapons , computers,....from a space wrecking Department and fits the ship with nessesary items and unusual weapons like klingon disruptors for a last Mission of the Enterprise A and was destroyed by the last battle with klingons and romulans. Thats happen before the movie Generations. Thanks alot for uploading. Best regards from Vienna, Austria, Europe
Imo, and even though Kurtzman and the rest of hacks in charge of NOT-Trek now will find some way to screw it up more, the only person in the TNG universe who should get to command the Enterprise E after Picard is Riker. Yes I know he’s captain of the Titan and yes I know the books and NOT-Picard season 1 say this doesn’t happen but Worf not only left starfleet but he’s a damn ambassador now and doesn’t deserve it, Data is dead, Geordi reading books to kids and the rest like Crusher is like chief of starfleet medical I think. Don’t get me wrong if Riker does get command it’ll get destroyed, cuz it happened literally every time he had command of her, and His wife rammed the Enterprise D into a planet because she’s an amazingly bad driver.
Heh may want to update this cause3 it sound like the D is back and the E has been lost, and the F retired! In the books B, was lost to a virus some place in the Tarsus Reach area not under the command of Harriman..
Actually the Enterprise D blew up many times in the tv series too. She blew up 4 or 5 times onscreen in the 5th season episode, "Cause and effect," and twice in the series finale, "All good things."
Nice video. I am hoping Season 2 of Picard ends with the Enterprise-E coming to rescue everyone thanks to none other than Captain Worf. Personally I am tired of new Enterprises. In Star Wars, the Millennium Falcon in all it’s rusty glory survives the entire franchise. There’s a magic to seeing the old gal in each iteration. It’s a character. Comparative the Enterprise is very much a character herself. Blowing up the ship for a new one is tiresome. Save new designs for different ships. With respect to the Enterprise-D, my biggest complaint with Generations is Picard didn’t use the Nexas to go back with Kirk to kick Soren’s ass in Ten Forward earlier in the movie. Then the movie could have ended with Kirk partying with the Enterprise-D crew. “What about First Contact?” I’m glad yoi asked. There’s a beautiful fan made intro of Enterprise-D first contact intro that makes me wish we had her for the movie. Would have been full circle since the Enterprise-D squared off against the Borg in “Q, Who?” But that’s just my opinion. 🤷♂️
Having a ship be iconic and seemingly indestructible is what makes it impactful if it gets destroyed. It should be an ultra-rare occurrence. Now they play it to death. It's kind of like Superman- when he was finally killed, it was an amazing and unbelievable story. Now he's killed and resurrected every other week.
Too bad she got taken out by an outdated Klingon bird of prey and Riker's inept tactics. He should've opened up with everything the Enterprise-D had, there's no way a bird of prey could've withstood the onslaught.
My thoughts exactly. No matter how it was shot in a scene, it always looked like a space-going condominium. It reminded me of Federation version of the French battleships in the last two decades of the 19th Century....
I don't know if any books ever covered it but the Enterprise C might not have been completely destroyed at the battle of Narendra 3, some Romulan might have brought part of its broken hull home as a war trophy and it's been on display at a museum ever since.
In the William Shatner Trek novel, ‘Ashes of Eden’, the Enterprise-A got incinerated by a sun sometime between Star Trek 6 and Generations...not strictly canon, but then neither is a pocket book portraying Worf as the new captain of the Enterprise-E as shown in this video :)
Where did that "Worf takes command of the Enterprise" thing come from? Worf became an Ambassador for the Federation to the Empire. I could swear the writers don't care one iota about continuity in this new Trek. According to Star Trek Online lore, Data's consciousness was resuscitated from B4 after 4 years of Geordie Laforge working with the Daystrum Institute and HE commanded the Enterprise after Picard.
We know that there are at least 12 iterations of the Enterprise, because memory alpha has articles going all the way up to the Universe-class USS Enterprise-J.
The Enterprise-J shows up in Star Trek: Enterprise during some of the Temporal Cold War stuff in the future there. It was part of what led to the end of the Xindi stuff. The Enterprise-F is from Star Trek: Online after the E was destroyed.
Ricardo, I always thought that aestheically the refit was the best-looking of all the iterations of the Enterprise. The dang thing looked like it was doing warp speed even when it was standing still....
What did the 136-year-old Bones McCoy say to Data? "Treat 'er like a lady and she'll always bring you home." This video pretty much shows how wrong he was.
the saddest USS Enterprise death is the USS Enterprise CV-6 with her being scrapped instead of being a museum ship *fuck ya'll imma just shove ya'll with real history*
If I'm not mistaken, Picard takes place after the events that allowed for the Kelvin Timeline, and if I recall, the comic prequel implied Data/B-4 was in charge of the E.
First iteration wasn't horrible. If they moved the neck and saucer further forward toward the deflector dish, widened the nacelle pylon angle, and didn't raise the size scaling out of "convenience", then it would've been good. The iterations after the first Kelvin movie, were bad.
