They don't portray him as a bastard, they give the reason why he is so hateful. And especially in this scene where he believes he just lost his crew after finding out they were alive.
And yet Khan seems to take pleasure in how he will blow up the Enterprise's life support systems and walk over the crew's dead, cold bodies if Spock refuses to give in to his demands, and then seems to take pleasure in informing them that he will return Scotty and Kirk...only to destroy the Enterprise shortly afterwards, which he wouldn't've done if the torpedoes didn't have warheads, and crippled the Vengeance.
+Joel Szasz Let's not forget about Khan mentioning that "no ship should go down without her captain," technical and traditional but savage af by sending Kirk and Scotty back to the Enterprise, only to want to kill them aboard the ship
Strong enough. He jumps 30 meters from the shattered viewscreen onto the hull and then full on sprints through half of downtown San Francisco. Besides, a vulcan is three times stronger than a human at rest while Spock, being infuriated, was hardly at rest and had adrenaline pumping. This made him more of a match, but Khan still had the edge. I mean, shrugging off stun blasts... haven't seen that since TNG's "Conspiracy"....
What is wrong with me? Khan is a bastard, but during that fight, I was "Oh no, poor Khan!" An interesting phenomena is happening nowadays, where the movies study so much the villains that we like them. Loki, Magneto... Why also do they cast so handsome actors for villains??
If they put him back again in the movies, I'll scream so high I'll loose my voice. He was an awesome villain all in all and Benedict is an incredible actor.
Giacchino could have crafted a better Spock/Khan showdown with more power. The "Amok Time" theme is superior! Nobody will remember this fight scene score, but we remember Amok Time-48 years ago!!!
The average Vulcan has 3 times the strength of a human.... Khan, in Space Seed, told Kirk he had FIVE times Kirk's strength. Khan outmatched Spock by a little bit....
