how is "Undiscovered Country" ranked worse than "Beyond" and "Generations" !? The movie has a great story, it's filled with tense moments, and it flows very well. I can always watch the final battle scene over and over again.

For me, Star Trek Generations is higher on the list. I think they really dropped the ball and could have done a lot more. The battle between the Enterprise and the old Bird of Prey was a joke as well. Leonard Nimoy was supposed to be in it, but he declined because he had very few lines. Other members of the TOS cast were not even asked to make an appearance.

The final frontier had some of the best moments in all of Trek. Seeing Spock and McCoy face their pain and then having kirk straight up say that he needed his pain was fucking fantastic. The movie gets way more shit than it deserves to. Is it the wrath of Khan? No. But it's still a great Trek film. Also, bonus points for McCoy being the one to tell Kirk to cool it with Spock since no man should have to kill his own brother. Even with all their arguing, it makes sense that he would defend Spock there, it was a cool scene.

@Aezetyr

Khan - the torchbearer of Good Trek Movies. Weighty themes of aging and death, admitting fault and painting over some plot holes. Country - Almost a perfect movie. Great sendoff for the OG crew. I would have liked to have seen Valeris doing more. Contact - Best 'TNG' era movie by far. Solid film. Big Space Battle (tm) only really lasts a few minutes, though it is a thrilling few minutes. Great interactions with the cast, and wonderful direction by Frakes. Voyage - Just pure fun going up against a potentially dark storyline. Everyone gets a chance to do something and it is well done. Beyond - Surprisingly very good, felt like the most Star Trek of the JJ films. Fun film, if a bit popcorny. Spock - Lots of opportunity lost here, though still a quality film. 2009 - Taking Bro Kirk out of this one improves it. Spock and Bones are a delight against a badly written Kirk. TMP - For an audio/visual experience, it's great. It seems like space porn wrapped up with Star Trek. Insurrection - Space Elves squat on a planet and somehow it's a prime directive issue, and it wasn't even the correct prime directive issue. Just a pure mess, it felt like an episode from early in the third season of TNG when the humanlike ubermenches were still running around being insufferably arrogant. Generations - Kirk dies as an afterthought. The Enterprise being destroyed in ST3 was given more reverence. Nemesis - The movie that killed the franchise for almost a decade. Worf shows up literally out of nowhere. Speaking of the almighty PD, a total violation of it so that Picard can drive around on a bad hummer. An interesting idea with the Romulans fell short. Frontier - Pure mess. You don't need triple breasted cat dancers in a gritty scifi search for "god" who ends up be a bad giant floating head. Many of the players were just there for a paycheck, and it shows. Darkness - Flip of ST2 with Kirk dying then brought back by space necromancy. It's an unwatchable assault on Trek.

I know the hot take we are discussing is Undiscovered Country being under Generations. But I do really wanna see anyone dare to say the truth, which is that Into Darkness is actually a great Star Trek movie and the only actual bad bit of it is the final 15 minutes. Those 15 minutes are bad. Yes. But it is a lot better Star Trek movie than 09, Search for Spock and Generations. The conflict is stronger, the morality is more interesting, and the use of the No Win Scenario story is stronger than every other film in the franchise, including Wrath of Khan. Like they literally can't win their predicament, so they have to try to cheat their way to a victory and they still fail. The final 15 minutes hurts the film a lot but it is still really really great before that. Even Kirk's death is super well done and emotional. It's just them doing the "Khan!" meme and onwards where the film falls apart.
