This set was $50 at toys r us when it came out ifI remember correctly, and let me tell you it was worth every penny. When I saw the box for the first time I almost had a heart attack. To this point in 93 all we got was the newer star trek figures of the time and to see the original crew together in that Beautiful box was just incredible. I think all the figures likenesses to the cast were on point. You gotta remember the last time we saw stos figures were in the 70s by mego. So this was Big!!!! At least to me it was. I hope playmates sticks to this style of figures and makes a enterprise bridge so these bad boys can continue the five year mission. The bridge they made for Next generation is ABSOLUTELY Beautiful so I know they can get it done rite. It would also be cool if they re-released the original series figures but in individual packages. Great review guys and great topic talk. I'm all for you guys doing a super review for new playmates star trek figures. This line was/is INCREDIBLE but doesn't get the shine it truly deserves. Thank you so much! So glad you're enjoying our nonsense. And I was really wondering what these box sets retailed for back in the day. 50 bucks in pretty steep for the 90's! But I guess they knew that the TOS toys were mostly going to adults. We're hoping Playmates continues in this series too!
Hopefully with the new Playmates figures being released, they'll release the fold-up bridge playset which was prototyped but never produced. That would be spectacular!
The original set was about $50.00 dollars in 1993. In 2017 I got it for a gift. I think it was from Amazon for about $60.00 to $80.00 dollars. I also got Janice Rand and Nurse Chapel each sold separately with accessories and file card, to complete the entire original crew from the series 👍👍👍👍👍😎!
I first heard Nichelle Nichols story as she told it herself on the Star Talk podcast almost ten years ago. Dr King said that Star Trek was the only show that he let his whole family watch, and they did so together every week. He ended the letter by saying “I am the biggest trekkie there is, and I am Lt. Uhura's most ardent fan.”
Ah. I still remember the day I coerced my parents into buying me this. Luckily the bridge set and all the figures are still in perfect condition. It's a great set that really holds up. The only weird one was Chekov, who was majorly oversized. This was definitely the highpoint of the Playmates line for me.
Not sure where you are getting your info, but there was no hate mail directed toward Nichelle directly. She talked about that in an interview. People may have complained to the network affiliates or CBS, but she was largely loved. The Martin Luther King thing had nothing to do with him encouraging her after getting hate mail.
I don’t have the bridge set due to the prices and not being able to get it in the U.K. other than eBay! It’s a great set but I wish they would of done them in separate cards after the box set because if you couldn’t afford the set at least you had the chance to get one of them you really liked. I’ve been trying to get the Uhura from the classics movie series as well she the only one from that set I don’t have. I wondered why they didn’t do the ear piece in Uhura’s left ear instead of an earring. I know people say that they used reused figures head sculpts in different series! but do you think the used the bridge set Uhura head on the Transporter one’ number 65404! It amazes me how they got a lot of things back then with what we are using today. I personally think they know that adult collectors will be buying the future playmates figures if they do any of the original characters and revisiting are childhood and because children these days wouldn’t have a clue who they are! I show my grandchildren my figures and they are not interested in them and think there boring. Another great video guys! I don’t care what the guy committed in the last video.
Yeah, I wish they had done theme carded too. Especially if you're filling in holes in the collection. I wonder if they avoided the ear piece because they were afraid it would break off? But you're right, this set in particular is definitely for adults, so that couldn't be that much of a risk.
It did indeed. You're totally right! I forgot about the TMP figures in that moment. It's weird they made those but never finished off the classic red unis.

Do you know that the TOS box set when you open it up that there’s a place it underneath the cardboard display play sex which is also cardboard but it’s a clean this place up.
