Loved the somewhat quirky friendship between Seven of Nine and Naomi Wildman. Especially how Seven referred to Naomi, "[Ah!] Naomi Wildman, sub-unit of Samantha Wildman......."
Disney could take a lot from this show. It is possible to have a strong female lead and strong female supporting characters without completely going OTT and screwing things up.
These guys from Voyager, TNG and DS9 were all in their 30’s 40’s and 50’s when these shows were on and they did a hell of a lot better than the goofy 20 year olds they got on there now…
I guess they wanted to escape the older millennial, gen x, and boomer demographic actors to give trek that younger appeal because they wanted to pull in a wider demographic rather than an aging demographic. Poor ensign kim.
One thing I liked about the old shows was how old the actors were. The only ones under 30 were Ensigns or people picked up in the delta quadrant. None of this 18 year old and already Captain-of-a-starship thing that New Trek has going. These people earned their rank through time and effort.
@@matthewasher3934 that's Abram's Star Trek, not the original Star Trek. Kirk was an Ensign aboard the Starship Republic, and then a Lieutenant and later Commander assigned to the U.S.S. Farragut under Captain Garrovick. He was the youngest Captain in Star Fleet, but he worked his ass off and earned his spot.
@@alcoholic2412 right, this a fact REALLY absurd, an officer's commission is a very serious thing, also in the past, when officers could buy their grade, in navies the officiers had to struggle from the low ranks to achieve a command. They could've modified the story, but on the contrary choose the more irrealistic way. It's a pity, because they could've rewamped the franchise
I. Love. Voyager. There's nothing quite so moving as the quest to return home, and this cast pulled it off, week after week, for 7 glorious years. I just hope they see this someday, and receive my heartfelt thank you for being so very entertaining.
Yeah. This was my sh!t way back. I come from a family of Trekkies and this was one show that came along the time I could make sense of it as a preteen, I was tuned in on our local fox channel every Thursday if I recall. Didn't expect to feel nostalgic, but, it was nearly 30 yrs ago when I met Kat Janeway, her handsome 2nd in command and the entire cast n crew. Ah Memory Lane.
I feel the exact same way. I think TNG is objectively my favorite overall but Voyager is my comfort show. I can go back to it over and over and never get tired of it. Something about the characters just felt the most like a family to me. It had the most endearing cast for me, easily.
Agreed. I'm more a Dr Who ran but did watch Trek as a teen. Voyager is my favorite because off thepseudo family relationships and the shared mission to go home. Another modern series I've discovered like this is Netflix's Lost in Space. Only 3 seasons and centered on an actual family but with a shared quest to survive and find home. I wish Hollywood made more stories like that. Basically good people with some flaws trying to find a peaceful happy life.
Little known fact, ensign barclays great, great, great, great, great grandfather was part of a crack commando unit, sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Some say he his time in the armed forces pushed him over the edge, but to those that knew him stated he was always howling mad ........
A-Team Van with Warpdrive passes the Voyager and one Gray haired Guy shoots with M-60 from the Sidedoor and Kills the Warpdrive of the Voyager causes IT to Flip over multiple Times
_The A-Team,_ a group of fat, middle aged farts, wearing clothing too tight for them, aptly playing one dimensional characters, through the medium of ham. One of my favourite comedy shows.
Garrett Wang looks remarkably like what he did when he was “aged” with makeup during the show. If Tim Russ dyed his hair you’d barely tell he aged a day. Maybe he really is Vulcan.
Yeah hair dye and makeup to hide the darkness around his eyes would serve him well. After makeup staying in shape is the best way to hide age on camera. Something kirk obviously didn't do as he got fatter and fatter.
Kate Mulgrew really set the tone as a leader, and a professional actor. I've always admired her work. Glad to see she didn't go down the rabbit hole of cosmetic surgery! Still a beauty.
With all due respect to her, she's put on quite a bit of weight. Makes me a bit sad as she was always a strong leader and i looked up to her as a kid. It's a shame she let herself go but i guess age can do that.
I Loved Scarlett Pomers as Naomi Wildman (2:27)! The interactions between her and Seven (Jeri Ryan 2:03) are some of my favorites in the entire series!
100%. Always thought that the producers missed a great opportunity to showcase Voyagers popularity, on the big screen. 2024, they can still do it and it would prove to be, a huge hit 👍
The video has an old picture of Roxanne that was taken during her late 40s. Now, she does look like she is in her 60s and she also has shrunk a little too.
TNG through Enterprise was the golden era of Trek, for me. Building upon what Gene and TOS began, there is a very similar look and feel to those later series that really encapsulates (I think) what Star Trek is all about. Though, I think DS9 is probably my favorite overall, as a show.. Voyager is just as great in its own right. Janeway is my favorite female character ever, and every bit as great as Picard, Sisko, etc.. There is a real sense of camaraderie, even family, amongst the Voyager crew.. highlighted by the genuine goodness of the actors who played them.
Only TNG counts. DS9 was offensive, not trek, Voyager was trek but lamed by a bad premise. Enterprise was retro trek interpreted as a ww2 submarine, a clear miss. Discovery is two handed facepalm. This is not opinion but absolute fact. Now, however we might actually have star trek in our life time. Open contact with ET cultures and the total revolution that follows. Obama and Nasa administrator have recently admitted that ET ships are regularly encountered in our atmosphere. Cowardly but real.
@@RambleOn07 don't take this the wrong way but that is a failure of your spirit, that you choose desolate war over the high minded idealism of TNG. That's an opportunity for you to better yourself. choose better. We are on the verge of open contact with very advanced ET species. The future has no place for poor spirits so choose wisely.
I think Voyager as a series has aged particularly well. I'm almost through with season 1 again, which I remembered as not-so-great... but having seen nu-Trek in the meantime, it definitly holds up. The effects are still pretty, the stories are better than anything Disco has to offer, and don't get me started about a comparison of the cast. After watching Disco, I suddenly really appreciate Neelix and Kes.
Was this even put together by someone who's actually watched Voyager? Half of the characters are the wrong incarnations i.e. from other trek shows, the image of Ayala is wrong, and half of those pictures aren't from 2021 but from years prior. Hell, even a quick Google image search brings up more recent pictures! Zero out of 10 for effort 👎
What ruined the show was the end, too rushed, a better idea would've been that the Voyager returned to the Federation in mid-season, and the final arc devoted to the protagonists struggling to adapt to their new (safer?) life. We know from "Picard" that 7of9 didn't adapt too well to a peaceful way of life, but the others survivors?
Richard Herd passing in 2020 took me by surprise. First saw him in the Mini series V: The Final Battle back in the mid 1980s. Launched Robert Englund's career too.
It is amazing how young the majority of the cast looks like. If they make a show now, I'd think that only few years have passed. Most of them have aged quite fine.
I loved Startrek Voyager from the very beginning. Always had you on the edge of your seat. Then the times of regrouping finding that way home. Awsome. ❤🤜🤛
I miss the voyager crew , it was one of my all time favorite trek series ever to this day once every year I watch the voyager start in the alpha quadrant and watch the go across the delta . It never gets old because seeing humans never give up and be able to get home to earth is always man kinds goal . Rox you look as beautiful as you did at the start and Robert you didn't do bad as well and Tom Paris you will always be my favorite your rebel attitude and sense of humor and Tim Russ , Garrett Wang I'd never turn down to a reboot plz make it happen I'd even volunteer to be and extra thank your voyager crew for the amazing trek memories from the great tuvok "Live long and prosper "
Tears just welled up in my eyes. Hard to believe I just watched this series within the last 6 months. One of the greatest series I have ever seen all time. Regardless of genre. Never been a Star Trek fan since it's inception but for some reason a female captain and a slew of racially diverse characters got my attention. Seeing how they have all aged is sad indeed but the legacy they left will live on forever. 7 of 9 still fine as wine. 👍
@@mikey2111 agree 100%. Although wearing that Klingon outfit didn't help much with her youth back then (despite still being beautiful 😉). God she was such an amazing engineer. Just a brilliant actress. The entire cast was as well. Thanks for reminiscing with me my friend. "Live long and prosper." ✌
@@eddieolshefski6467 would you look at that... the "Live Long and Prosper" emoji! Thanks! BTW Tuvok was awesome. Loved the little "heart to heart moments 😄" he had with Neelix (who was also awesome)🖖👍
I LOVE Voyager series so much ! It's been long time since it aired in 1990s-2000s , but still really inspired me especially when I'm going through rough days on some point in my life. I learn important lessons from each episodes which help me figure out the problems in my daily life. So glad to see how the cast members are going in 2022!!
Oh boy, I don't think any video has ever made me feel so old, lol. Still, love seeing this! And jeez, Roxann was devastatingly gorgeous then and now still!!
the best series anbd crew ever, (for me) more realistic and technically superb for that time...no bullshit conversation or try to make peace with everyone like TNG.
Awe! sweet memories! Ever since i came to USA from Russia back in mid 90s, I fell in love with STAR TREK!!! Still watch ALL of them EVERY YEAR!!! It became my obsession! NOT the TREKER yet... but deeply in love with that MASTERPIECE of GREAT GENE RODDENBERRY. Truly , Gene created a whole new UNIVERSE!! The world became orphan without him!!!
Watching this made me quite sad, I always wanted a Voyager movie. I thought the Delta Quadrant offered up so much story potential. Now I realise most of the actors will never play a part in Star Trek again. Such a shame as these were good actors, who deserved more. Hence, sad :(
I always preferred the Voyager crew to ST:NG. And I always wanted to see them after they had gotten home. Made me sad that Neelix stayed behind in the Delta quadrant even if it was with his own family.
Thank you for the voyage down memory lane! I watched every episode as they were aired, and still watch them today as if watching for the first time 😋🚀!
Voyager is my great comfort show. Love Kate Mulgrew and most of the cast. I’m in season 4 of probably my fourth or fifth rewatch. This is a great update but that background piano music is sappy and just horrendous.
There were a lot filler episodes but great show though! Fun personal fact, this is the show I choose years ago to learn American English listening, I started dropping subs at the end of the 6th season.
If I saw most of these people on the street I wouldn't even recognize them. My Step Father However.... He'd recognize a 60 year old he hadn't seen since 3rd Grade.
Voyager is my most favourite of all Star Trek series. A few personal notes: 1. Kathryn Janeway is my #1 ST captain, thanks in no small part to Kate Mulgrew's phenomenal portrayal of the character. I consider her the ultimate template for what a female boss could (and should) be like. 2. I guess any heterosexual can notice how beautiful Jeri Ryan was (still is), but watching the show I couldn't help but admire her acting, which made 7 of 9 yet another superb female character. 3. For the third lady of the show in the spotlight, I fear, that only the charm and acting skills of Roxann Dawson saved the ultra-poor concepts behind her character of B'Elanna Torres & rather non-inventive writing for her character's-centric episodes. A bit of a pity, as there were glimpses of what Ms. Dawson could pull off as an actor, if only the writing was better. 4. Chakotay was, as a character, something of a missed opportunity, thanks to somewhat poor writing; luckily, Robert Beltran's acting patched it up completely and actually managed to make him likeable and endearing. I think his character could serve as a template for any man to look up to. 5. The character of Tuvok was well conceived, well written and well acted out - Tim Russ just made it his own in a highly memorable way. 6. Robert Picardo's EMH.. Seriously, can anyone, who watched the series, separate the two in their minds? Superb acting resulting in a great performance, ultimately creating a loveable character. 7. R.D. McNeill's Tom Paris is, IMHO, what the ST series truly needed - a bit of chaos and anarchy, but one with a deep moral compass and strong ethical principles. Excellent & highly relatable character, thanks to a deep, realistic portrayal. 8. Garret Wang was just adorable, as Harry Kim - and it was a real treat to see his character grow & mature, over the series' run. Truly, some of his on-screen moments are 'timeless' (pun intended). 9. Kes was unfortunately a complete miss, in terms of what-to-do with the character and how to write a good story arc for them.. Jennifer Lien tried to save it, but got very little to work with. Still, some of the episodes focusing around her character were great. 9. Neelix was another character, where it seems the writers didn't know how to proceed.. They were lucky they had Ethan Phillips with his acting skills, as IMHO, he by himself prevented the character from being unbearable to watch. The recurring cast was also very well selected and delivered beyond expectations - Martha Hackett and Brad Dourif come to my mind immediately here - one showcasing a cold-blooded intelligence fueling & supporting the treacherous personality, the other masterfully guiding the character through a highly memorable redemption arc.. Sheer pleasure to watch. And finally, the guest appearances seem like a list of 'all time greats' of (mostly) TV actors. Again from the top of my head - Ed Begley Jr. as a villain (oh boy, it happened !!!) was just hilariously brilliant, watching Michael McKean being a terrifying character sent 'taps' down my 'spine' (another pun intended), Kurtwood Smith made his antagonist actually quite likeable, Virginia Madsen made her character 'unforgettable' (yeah, I know..), John-Rhys Davies is just great in everything he's in - including his portrayal of Leonardo da Vinci hologram, Ray Wise brought his signature Lynch-esque 'dark depths of the soul' kind of a thing to his character, John Savage masterfully led the audience on a leash like a clueless puppy, when it came to determining what his character was actually like and really about, etc.. Great performances, great characters.
As they say, "Black don't crack..." Tim Russ, aside from his hair color looks basically the same and younger than any of the rest of the cast (not including the ones in their 30's). 🤘 Notable mentions: Jeri Ryan Vaughn Armstrong (who perhaps looked 70 in his 40's)
They didn't, but a lot of people remember Hogan dying in "Basics" as Carey dying. There's a theory that even the writers remembered it that way, which is why we don't seen Carey for seasons 2-6 except in alternate timelines.
Marley Maclean is the same age as me, which made me feel a lot better about watching this as a teenager and now seeing people in their sixties. I know sixty plus still isn't old, but hearing it still has an impact.
Ok first of all that wasn’t Lt Ayala, it was Tebor. Also the ‘then’ photos of Carey and Vorik were from older TNG appearances. And Vaughn Armstrong’s photo was from Enterprise
Fave show of all time. Watched it live, and 6 full times since... spaced out between runs, so it wouldn't become "routine". Sure glad I finished the last binge before Netflix took it away!
The photo of Robert Duncan McNeill is from 2011, 10 years before the 2021 date shown in the video. Jeri Ryan's photo is from 2019. I bet there are other photos older than 2021 so the actors may look very different today. There is no way Roxann Dawson looks that young at 63.
Who's the chubby white guy with glasses on the far right of the thumbnail? Don't tell me it's the video publisher Photoshopplng himself in 🤣🤣 if it is, I applaud you my friend, made me laugh some reason
This took me back. I remember waiting for this show to come out as I was really loving TNG and it was ending. I watched this every week. Hard to believe this much time has passed. I miss the 70's 80's and 90's, times were simpler, better.
Thank you for putting in Jennifer Lien! I loved her portrayal of Kes! A unique Star Trek character. Her life after Voyager sadly took a rough turn! I hope the best for her! She is a great Star Trek notable!
Based on all of the other current photos I just saw of Roxanne I’d wager that the “2021” photo (courtesy of Michael Helms Photography) was taken well over 10 Years Ago. My impression is that even if you factor in photoshop touch up it’s still not even remotely her in 2021. Jeri’s “2021” photo is from 2019’s San Diego Comic Con, so it’s a little more legit.
I watched Voyager when it originally aired, 8 years ago i re-watched the whole thing and yet some of these characters don't ring a bell at all. Like Lt. Ayala, Lt. joe Carey, Mezoti and Lt. Walter Baxter.
I'm a treky ,and I love all voyager. Next gen, d s 9. Enterprise. And the original series. To me, its timeless, the innovation, and ideas , some of which seem to have come to light in the last 20 years. Thanks to all the actors and the people behind the scenes for their hard work and dedication. Love to yall.❤
I loved it. Great the main crew is still alive - Well Computer died RIP 2008, but we can cast Siri or Alexa for the role because there is still a Voyager crew existing in an alternate timeline, so a reboot for a movie or mini series, or even a feature in Discovery's timeline where that crew never made it home should be considered. Good job on this one.
