Amendment: The Switch port will only lack split screen support for handheld users. It’s not made clear but apparently the eshop does list it as 1-2 players. One of my better unscripted videos
Take it from us modders: just because *we* can do it, doesn't mean contract devs with a limited budget, deadlines to meet, approval processes to go through and other games to work on can too. Keep your expectations realistic, kids.
Bro these click bait "battlefront" youtubers you mention are so annoying! They just regurgitate misinformation like fact, thank you for calling them out. I was going to do a similar video but you hit the nail on a lot.
Very reasonable video. Talked about things realistically, pointed out most of the big, easy-to-fix issues, gave us a good update on what your plans are.
Dude, thank you so much for this! It feels like I've been tossed and turned between blind fanboys and ravenous haters for this re-release when it comes to news, and this provides a ton of clarification on the matter. Definitely hope to see BFIII Legacy for this collection!
I know some people do, as well as some unused camo variants of rebels - but Aspyr is limited to stay reflective of the original releases, and this is - while a cool detail; a noticeable change.
I never even realized this was a thing. And playing clones on death star with elite difficulty bots was one of my favorite things, played that all the time.
about requests something new can be added in updates i mean i hope multiplayer servers will be less laggy so we can play normal also we don't need dlcs we have moddb for that also one request i have: Galactic Conquest Online PVP... please don't say anything is the only hope i have
While the hype surrounding this means we get full servers right now, I think once this launches, it's going to be disastrous for PC, because it'll split the already fractured and dwindled playerbase online between those who say, "Fuck no I'm not wasting full price on a 20 year old game I already have" and those who say, "I'm a corporate shill and buy anything you tell me to.' (Okay, I'm exaggerating for comedic effect, but you get my point.) It's going to split the playerbase further, and make it so nobody can find anybody online. Unless they manage to get the online to be compatible with the existing GOG Galaxy servers. They should at the very least come with crossplay between all consoles/PC and all versions of the game both the existing and the new re-release.
This will be no different from when the community had to move from Gamespy to SWBFSpy/Gameranger and again from SWBFSpy/Gameranger to Galaxy. There will always be a loss but you will find the majority of the playerbase will move to the newest version anyway. It is a situation akin to getting with the times or being left behind.
I really don't see why any relevant amount of the fanbase will stick to the old games unless Aspyre just leaves the Classic edition with massive bugs and doesn't bother fixing them which... I don't see happening. The lack of crossplay puts a limit on how long the console versions will have an active multiplayer base but PC will be just fine
Am beyond excited for this game, bf2 is one of my favorite games of all time and having it finally come out on the switch and ps5 is a dream come true. Not only that its coming out not too long after my birthday... I personally think it is worth €35 and i am buying it twice on switch and ps5. If this does really well i do think it could be very likely that they do the psp battlefronts somewhere down the line. And i am so excited to finally play the xbox dlc and multiplayer for these games.
If we bring attention to the PSP games and show there is demand for them - Lucasfilm could reach out to Rebellion since a lot of the ES and RS team still work there and are interested in remaking them properly.
It’s pretty sad the games I’ve been most excited about are a rerelease of a 20 yr old game and a spiritual sequel to jet set radio future (bomb rush cyberfunk)
Only thing I'll counter is the alleged EA cut. EA may own Pandemic but they might not necessarily have full monetary rights to Pandemic's Star Wars catalogues.
Okay, I have one; in the original, you can look at AI troops and issue simple orders. 'Follow me' and 'Move out'. The better you perform, the more AI troops you can issue orders to. 2 to a lower level, 6 at max.
Awesome video, I love the background gameplay of Hero Assault on different planets, some of us have never seen it anywhere but Tatooine. In future vids can you include more gameplay of Hero Assault on a different ground map? Geonosis for example?
Thank you! Damn it I was so sick of all of that misinformation out there, people unintentionally or worse intentionally spreading misinformation is so infuriating. Don't get me wrong I'm calm but things have to be said. People hipping others on nonsensical stuff such as multiplayer cross play GC is wtf at best.. Some even called you with some names, that I won't use because I'm a decent person, saying you had created your mod right after the announcement trying to milk some coverage for "nothing", just wtf..
Aspyr should be able to add a multiplayer campaign mode. You could play multiplayer campaign on the original Battlefront II using admin commands, but it was a little unstable on certain levels. It is a shame to hear that it is not possible to add a multiplayer galactic conquest. Having two leaders command the board game mode with their own respective factions who fight in the game would have been amazing. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oiYQZ8aamZA.html
The bug fix I desperately want in the classic collection for bf2 is all the ai to get out of the dropship when you land and not have that one straggler crash it into a wall. Also prone in bf2 would be cool but will never happen.
I knew after Force Unleashed lacked the PSP content that the offerings for this port wouldn't be much, if any, better. Honestly, I would've liked to see them import some of the maps from Renegade - they translate well, are official content. Or, barring that, including the unreleased but finished PS2 version of Elite Squadron as a bonus. Just *something* that isn't already available on Xbox Back Compat or PC.
Rebellion are interested in handling remakes but it’s a Lucasfilm decision and Aspyr can’t actually add new content like that to the original games; not to mention the fact they run on a completely different game engine.
*Retro DLC:* Add in Ahsoka, and maybe new characters that use weapons similar to those of the Praetorian Guards in some *Retro DLC.* Ads in the new version of Assajj Ventress coming out soon as well with _The Bad Batch_ new series. Add in _Ahsoka's_ vision of Anakin with a red sabre. Other ideas to be welcomed. - New Heroes and villains with new gameplay mechanics would be welcome. Nice use of Lakefront music from Pokémon btw.
Finally someone with a brain is explaining all this stuff! The amount of people spreading misinformation or don’t know what they’re talking about is unreal… Everything you said, from the pricing to complications with cross play and what they realistically are likely to do made sense, and was so refreshing compared to comments armchair developers make in YT comments, Reddit, and the Steam Discussions.
No split screen on switch is a major bummer. Even though I didn’t plan on picking it up on there that’s gonna disappoint a lot of people when they find out they can’t play local multiplayer with their friends/family
Out of curiosity, does anyone know where the "Switch will not have split screen" info is confirmed? I find that info strange as 1: the PS2 version had it and as janky as it was, if it can run on that, it can definitely run on Switch. And more importantly 2: in the Switch Eshop, under "number of players" it says "1-2". Now, I can understand splitscreen being missing in handheld mode and or for online play. But as for offline local splitscreen, I don't know where that info is coming from and the store page seems to directly contradict that claim.
@@MaskedKingDavid and I've been searching ever since posting this comment where this claim originated from and I can't find a thing. The closest I get is that split screen wasn't shown during the Nintendo Direct version of the trailer. Beyond that, I can't find any evidence that split-screen on Switch is cut. And like I said earlier, I can imagine split screen might not be available in handheld mode or online or in a 64 player game. But it sounds like at minimum, offline Campaigns, Instant Action and Galactic Conquest seems to be supported on Switch according to the eshop.
Strange, it might’ve surfaced prior to the eshop being out; I’ve just seen a lot of modders mentioning it so I assumed it was the case; guess there’s a good bit of misinformation that even I fell for. We’ll see when it comes out
Have they spoken with you? Because if they have can you tell them to use a mod that has movie accurate sounds, the blasters especially the clone blaster rifle sounds terrible.
@LonelyDragonModding Copy. The loyalty discount will be in effect until March 13th. I take it we will need a copy of this collection for any upcoming mods that you release?
the one question i have in regards to the crossplay is how come when Aspyr ported Jedi academy it had crossplay in the first week by mistake, only to be removed shortly after, i remember there being a whole thing about PC playing with all the console players on that game and everyone complained when Aspyr removed it.
@@LonelyDragonModding well how come crossplay was so easily accessible and able to be added with Jedi academy? Wasn’t the Jedi academy port basically the same thing as the new battlefront port? you know as in the same game with updated visuals and new servers? (Sorry if I wasn’t clear on that the first time) just genuinely curious
@@greyfox3178 it was running off a modification of the pc version with the same net code. People were able to bypass the console matchmaking servers by connecting directly to console server ips since they forgot to hide them on load screens. This won’t be possible on battlefront since there is no direct connection option.
@@LonelyDragonModding oh actually one more thing, do you think its possible for them to add some kind of party system? or is that not in the cards......like how can we invite our friends to play and that kind of thing.
I'm worried about how multi-player will go. Jumping and rolling gallore...Don't get me started on the detpacks and rocket launchers...should be interesting
It is not necessary to modify the Xbox to access the console's internal drive; you can do it directly from developer mode. The issue is that no one is going to pay 19 USD to install mods.
Will Legacy mod continue to be permanently updated based on the OG steam version? Because I do kind of like the idea of being able to have the classic collection as vanilla, and the OG as my modded version simultaneously, so I dont have to uninstall mods whenever I want to play vanilla.
I don't see a reason for a conflict between these versions, the only thing would be dependant on how much of a memory bump CC gets in comparison to the OG. I do not plan to abandon DVD and OG Steam players.
I've only played the game on PC, I'd really like to play the challenge mission that were available only on the PSP. And mod support + Steam Workshop would be amazing!
Really curious for how heroes are gonna be handled. I also saw that there were more than two heroes on tantive 4 but thats peobably a tease for hero assualt to be on more maps.
It's mostly PC players. This release isn't targeting them specifically, but they don't want to just update the game considering how disastrous the 2021 update was.
Is it possible for them to have PlayStation Trophies/Xbox Achievements? What about PC cross play with players on the original version of the game? Is it possible they're using the same servers as the original or would they need new ones?
Achievements are universal, except on Switch. So you’ll have achievements on Steam. It is unknown what is happening with the existing pc multiplayer - it could go either way but the assumption is it’ll be separated.
It has it, required since it's also going for steam deck verified. Plus, split screen would be a strange feature for PC if it required 2 sets and K&B lol
@@grannytoes7221I mean on PC. I have the originals on PC so the only reason for me to buy the Classic Collection is if it had full controller support either through this or a mod.
You mentioned that Galactic Conquest cannot be played with a friend online... do you know if the same thing happens with instant action and story mode? (I don't mean split screen)
Instant Action is just the offline game modes and will be available online. Galactic Conquest is simply not built to support it and will never work. Campaign *can be played online if you’re on PC through host commands and if you’re playing with modded users on consoles.
I haven't seen any mention of the AI hero that can spawn on xbox for SWBF2 being included in the collection on the store page or by anyone else noticing missing features. Is it just me that's interested in AI heroes not only in Hero Assault mode?
We don't know, based on the original it could be Offline only - however Xbox supported splitscreen online iirc. it is just another wait and see feature.
@LonelyDragonModding it says on the playstation blog that offline split screen is included. That could not mean much, but I assume that means no online split screen for the playstation platforms at least because why else would they specify.
If we show support for this release and spread awareness and demand for the PSP games to be remade, Rebellion is still staffed by a lot of the original RS and ES team and they are 100% interested in remaking them - they are just waiting for Lucasfilm Games to greenlight it.
Trailer footage shows much sharper textures in comparison to the original game - especially on the DLC maps. There’s a promotional image showing the CIS frigate which shows it best. It’ll be ai upscaled since the textures are almost identical to the originals in everything but quality.
Because we've played Battlefront II for so long, we can tell that the textures and models look a bit sharper and clearer than we're used to. Also, everything is a.i.-upscaled these days, and like he said, if it's going to be 5x the file size, it only follows that's what they did when otherwise it's 100% vanilla.
So stupid that they didn’t add BF3 to this collection. I mean the game was like 99.999999998% complete basically and really really polished. Totally unreasonable for them to not add that practically finished game.
I don’t know if I believe the game was nearly completed. If it was wouldn’t the devs have leaked that build or a much near finished build along with all the models and that?
@@U9DATE Battlefront Elite Squadron for the PSP is actually the portable version of BF3. But just like the PSP version of BF2, there was stuff cut out. Like maps, and playable characters.
When you said AI upscale will that mean the AI themselves will be improved? In the current version the AI tend to be really terrible. Heres just an example of Darth Maul running into a wall lol 9:44
50 GB!!! What a fucking joke! This is just like Halo 2 on MCC. Something absurd like 40-50 GB when the original game is barely 2-3 GB. There is zero excuse for making the file size 5x larger than the 10 GB it should be when they're literally just the original graphics anyway!
So you would want 240p 24fps videos on your 4k monitor/TV? It is mostly movie files that are no longer compressed and are a higher resolution. Same reason why CoD games are so huge, since they still use pre-rendered full motion videos as well.
It's the movie cutscenes that make up 90% of it. It's completely reasonable for the resolution. There's a reason games don't use movie cutscenes anymore. Even the original versions which are around 11gb were mostly movie cutscenes files
