+Beldinoob actually its best to aim for the center of the chest. Most weapons in most games have recoil, which will mean you will walk the shots up the body, ending on the head. If you start on the head its a MUCH smaller target and easy to miss. Furthermore if there is recoil, most guns do not kill in a single shot to the head, so if the weapon recoils you land one shot on the head and the rest go over the target. If you aim at the center of the chest it allows you to keep more shots on target and do the maximum damage in the shortest time with less risk of missing your target.
+Drew Russell Then the guy shooting at you kills you because he's aiming at the head from the start and not having the damage be soaked up by armor/less critical damage area's. Most people know about recoil enough to know how many shots can be fired before the weapons recoil really kicks in (in which case you either compensate or use burst fire to keep it on target).
I gotta say, these tips really helped me a lot, and I could see the effects on my performance as soon as I got into the game. My K/D is slowly going up now. :)
I've found that playing at a high level in halo has made me decent at fps the first time i play them (thus allowing me to progress through ranking systems much easier). Also, aiming with your strafe is also a great way to play close range as you use this to match you opponent's strafe. Great job at explaining the tips though, i can see people becoming much better with these tips. :)
I Recently discovered this channel and I have to say that you deserve more subscribers. Videos like these are extremely helpful they do actually make me better at the game. Thanks :D
Nice tips I think. Just as said they are pretty universal to FPS games (I do not really play SWBF any more). One word of warning for aiming by moving. In some games, like Battlefield, moving will cause weapon sway (lower accuracy). In the Battlefield example, this varies depending on weapon used. It's a great technique and I use it a lot since I play with fairly high sensitivity but one needs to be aware of the eventual 'sway-effect'. In those cases, one counter measure is some anticipation of where target is going (we assume longer range engagement) and stopping before shooting so rather than 'follow lead' the target by moving, 'set' a point and shoot the leading shot when target is 'almost there'. Basically a variant of the 'stop and pop'.
Great video and keep it up your at 872 so 1000 is right around the corner and thank you for trying keep this battlefront community going so i hope even after battlefront you'll give more informative tips on other games.
+nick lugo Almost there! and thanks, I'm doing my best but the player base is still dropping :( I do plan on covering more games but I require people to contribute and donate to make that possible, I simply can't afford to spend the time I do making the videos and also pay 70-100 for new games & DLC.
Very Interesting. I'm a 38 year old Noob. I haven't played a Multi-player on-line shoot-out since Halo2. This is giving me great tips, and a lot to think about. Well done!
Hey man I love watching your videos...I was hoping to see a little bit more about learning to lead and where to aim when leading and how it differs for each gun. Maybe some tips and things/ drills to practice to improve on that.
I had my best game yesterday on Turning Point. 72-12 Never used a vehicle or a hero. beside no heroes on Turning Point anyways I used 1st person , 3rd is better , but I like how immersive 1st feels scan pulse -ee3-nades - scout I didn't spam scan pulse either , this was one game where I was building up my charge cards to see how many I can collect.
+OTAKU Thank you! Positioning my cross hairs prior to the shot was a huge help. I also watched this video and wanted your perspective on a few additional tips he recommended, as I value your objective opinion. 1) Do you think the Xbox Elite Controller with trigger stops would make a significant difference? 2) Playing Single Player without Aim Assist and without friendly AI's seems like a good way to improve my aim. I'm going to try this.... I know this is not a question just wanted to share. 3) What would you recommend the Sensitivity should be? Is this subjective to the player and skill level?
+Eric Hollingsworth Hey Eric, thanks for watching and I'm glad it could help. As for your questions. 1. I don't have an xbox and I have never used the controller so I can't say from experience. All I can tell you is, use whatever you want and is most comfortable and going to improve your game play. 2. I don't play it by myself but I do go in and duel vs friends to improve my hero game play...fun times. 3. Sensitivity is extremely subjective. I use a high sensitivity to move and use my body to aim. Other players will use a low sensitivity and aim only using the sticks. You just need to find a method to seems to suite you the best.
+Eric Hollingsworth Use the scan pulse card . Once you start using it more and more you'll get an idea for the most popular areas of the map where enemies tend to hang out the most. After awhile you'll start to remember those areas without using Scan Pulse. Try to sock away as much in game money as you can and purchase a ton of scan pulse recharge cards. Scan Pulse will make you a better player. While I prefer the ee-3 , the DL-44 is probably the best gun for players having trouble getting kills.
Something cool to add is that if you use fps mode, you can have access to better firing positions like a hole in a wall which makes it impossible for the enemy to hit you in third person mode (like the 12 player endor mission, inside the corridors there are some holes and the side of the walls which give you cover and allow you to shoot through the holes but if ur in third person mode the camera does not all you to see)
This is an excellent video! Battlefront is my first competitive PS4 shooter as I migrated from the PC. Your final tip on aiming with body movement, rather than the sticks, is something I picked up after a couple dozen hours of gameplay, nice to see someone else confirm that technique. Quick question, what are your sensitivity settings at? It looks pretty high to me, and I'm impressed with how accurate you are.
These aiming tips truly make a difference. No longer am I climbing those ramps with my head down! On a side note - how much of a difference would you say that star cards make in your gameplay, personally? I'm trying to upgrade them all before I restock the inventory. Quite the lofty endeavor. xD
+Niko Lavertu Upgrade on jetpack is a must and I would upgrade that first. Scan pulse and explosive shot can make a huge difference, given the right circumstances so I wouldn't voluntarily play without them. I would suggest buying charges but don't just spam them. I only use explosive shot when 1. the distance is too far for my blaster 2. there is more than one enemy 3. vs a hero. I only use scan pulse in areas where I see heavy enemy presence on a map but I don't want to expose myself to look for them. So yes, star cards can make a big difference.
Great tips. Battlefield penalizes moving while shooting however. I was so used to posting up when shooting at long range that I actually had a hard time at first moving while shooting at long range in battlefront.
+Alan Lee I had the opposite problem moving to Battlefield. I was so used to running and gunning that my accuracy (and KD) were poor initially in Battlefield. I still prefer good hipfire guns so I can run and gun to a degree.
I learned the strafe-aim tactic from Alliance of Valant Arms. (In that game's sniper maps you'll barely get a single kill if you don't aim with your movement.)
+TelepathicTraffic A lot of good players already do it and just don't realize it. To help people I need to analyze myself and other good players and then provide that information in my videos.
You wouldn't believe how grateful I am for this, it was a great help and I'm already feeling my aim is better. Hell, I managed to end with an almost positive K/D while using a controller on PC, so I can't wait to see when I buy a new keyboard. By the way, could you do a video on how to avoid OP stuff, like the jumpcaster, explosive SE-14, DL-44, Homing Shot, etc.? I feel like most of my deaths come from, or are at least influenced by it.
+Jhon Pittsburg Hey, I'm glad the videos helped you so much, please consider contributing to the channel(link is in the description). I talked about that issue a little bit in my video "Definitive guide to getting better + increasing K/D". The idea is to find what kills you the most and then change your load out to offset that. In your situation it's: SE-14C explosive rounds, DL-44, Jumpcaster and Homing shot, which are all countered by the bodyguard trait. Rank 1 will reduce explosive damage by 30%, rank 2 by 50% and then rank 3(if you can get there) will even reduce blaster damage by 30% which makes the DL-44 require 3 shots for a kill and severely reduces its potency. I know that I had a lot of trouble with those as well and switching to bodyguard made a world of difference.
Coming from the pc version-I was wondering about if you normally squeeze the left trigger to lock on target or just use the right stick to aim and shoot? Its pretty staightforward w/mouse and keyboard
Awesome, thanks, man! This is super helpful! I don't know if you ever play on PC, but if you do, what mouse sensitivity do you use when playing FPS like Battlefront?
Otaku keep it up u amazing. I have a question, what gun do u most like at short range and which at long range? Also what is your favorite star cards to go along with these guns
+NickBattlefront Hey, thanks! At short range I find myself using the SE-14C a lot, and I switch my cards depending on the game mode or map. Usually, I will run explosive shot our scan pulse.
what is your sensitivity I aim very well on BF2 but I cant seem to aim as well on Battlefront any tips ideas the combat seems to be a little different? Also controller you use etc anything helps, thanks!
+OTAKU, would you recommend using low or high sensitivity? I have seen some people who recommend using lower sensitivity. What do you use and what would you recommend? Thanks man keep up the good work!!
+Ben Rutt Depends on the game, but I recommenced a high sensitivity for battlefront. On PC you can use low because you can simply move the mouse further and faster to compensate and therefore have a super accurate shot. On some games like Battlefield 4 you can have a sensitivity for moving and separate one for aiming, allowing you to move quickly but aim slowly and accurate. Battlefront on console just doesn't have that kind of option and so you need to chose one or the other.
+OTAKU Sweet! Thanks for replying!! One more question...what sensitivity do you use? Like what is your set to so I have a indication of where to start.
Yip it is stating the obvious but you'd be surprised at how many ppl don't do this! Clear and honest advice! Even through it should come as a given to gamers!
+HUGH HEFNER The main reason for the video is because battlefront brought a lot of people new to the FPS genre, so it while some of it may seem obvious, its not to many.
+OTAKU "It brought a lot of people to the FPS" and you mean that GLOBALLY? So in laymen's terms your saying this is some ppls 1st go on a shooting game? I find that really, really hard to believe! There's stretching the truth.............
HUGH HEFNER Look in the comments of my video's, I have a ton of people saying to me "Thanks for the videos. I like star wars but this is my first FPS game and I suck horribly". Or something along those lines. Why do you think the general population sucks so much...
The first tip was pretty useful, hadn't really thought of it, but the other two seemed pretty common knowledge. Well the third one is kinda iffy for me, I know to move my body while sniping but I dont really utilize it that much. Overall, great tips, thanks for the vid.
I viewed your video before and took heed to your tips but I still have trouble moving the crosshairs and stopping right on my target. I notice when you move around you are able to pinpoint your crosshairs on your target precisely every time and keep it there, even when the target is moving. The same when you rapidly spin around, your crosshairs stop exactly on point. I always stop off target and then have to fine tune my aim but by then I'm shot down. Any tips to better improve this, it's exasperating!
This video tries to abstract away from mechanical skills like quick reflexes, hand-eye coordination, etc. for a reason. Unfortunately, there really isn't anything I can say or do to help you with the other stuff. You might be able to change your settings around, get a better controller, perhaps even some Kontrol Freak grips..but that is about the best advice I can give right now without seeing you play.
Actually I learned these in single player mode of SWBF2, which I played for several years. And that also gave me a bad habit of rambo and take on several enemies at a time, then got shot down so dame quick lol... That's why my K/D always stay between 1 and 3. I think preconditioning shot delays are important. for example, when using EE-3 you always get somewhere about 50-100ms delay between when you press the button and when the projectile really come out.
You can also toggle views to get better views in third person by clicking the down d pad button. It allows you to see around corners before the enemy sees you. Try it, it's a world of a difference
hi otaku! i play star wars battlefront on the xbox and i usually play in the first person veiw but that can really help when i'm playing as a hero. (also the most kills i have in first person is 110.)
how do all these videos have this magic aiming, plus ability to stay on target despite recoil? I try to control the recoil but end up moving off target at the slightest push of the control stick. on SWBF I'm at 20% sensitivity. help!
+Jack Timar The idea is to aim using your body and not using the joystick. There isn't really much recoil in the game, don't try to control it, just tap fire instead so it doesn't go wild.
~Where was all teh First Person XD This was all in Third Person. Nice vid though, good to keep teh new generations informed and up to pace ^~^ I would also suggest a low sensitivity at first and slowly work your way up. (using teh base/weakest wep also if you wanted to train a little, as most people use teh best gun possible it forces you to have better aim to best them... or be more tactical to constantly catch people off guard)
What up dude its killer. Ya so earlier I was with friends doing downloads and I wanted to show them you playing. Some interesting hero experimenting. I'll be online tomorrow night at exactly midnight lol I already got it all patched n rdy. So it's going down!
How are you so aware of enemies around you all the time? I realize there is a mini-map, but you can't be constantly be watching it while in a blaster fight. Any tips?
My biggest problem is that it seems to take a fair bit of movement on th stick to move the cross hairs so being able to follow targets the way you do seems impossible for me. Are you using a standard PS4 controller or an after market controller?
