Star Wars toys have always had like a 30%-40% Disney tax at the parks. For instance back in the day, vintage collection figures were $3-5 more than retail. I got a darth plagueis at Hollywood studios and the price tag reads $12.99. So I can see this being like a $30 figure with the Disney tax being $40. $45 is pushing it 😭
I hear you. I was excited for this until I saw the price. I think we'll see this sculpt used elsewhere in the mainline. Since Dok Ondar was not specifically on my want list, I'm going to gamble and hold out for a mainline (probably deluxe) Momaw Nadon or other Ithorian and save a few bucks.
I was a kid buying PotF2 figures from Service Merchandise in the 90s. Since Black Series debuted, I've been waiting for a Hammerhead to give the giant gun-thing that came with the 4" figure!
He is pricey but "fancy box!" "Exclusive item!" "More than 1 accessory!" (I just received the new Endor trooper and yeah...) ... New tooling can't really justify the price for Star Wars figures. Aside from generic types (troopers, pilots, Jedi) Star Wars figures are all new sculpts. Size? Now that would bring him into the deluxe category like the Gamorrean Guard and "Saw Lies and Videotape" Gerrara. Now of course they are going to reuse the body for Momaw Nadon. Probably with a different torso overlay. What I'm hoping for is that Ithorian Jedi from the animated series. I think it was the Tartovsky Clone Wars where he showed up. THAT would be a fun surprise.
The sculpt under the soft goods is so plain it’s not worth it to take off. Thanks for taking one for the team. The sculpt under robed Boba Fett is great.
The gun/lightsaber tilting hand and the finger positions on both hands suggest to me that a Clone Wars 2D Roron Corobb may be on the table later down the line. Idk why, but he was always one of my favourite Legends/EU Jedi character designs. I used to draw my own interpretations a lot in my tweens and teens.
Does the head pop off? I would think that would help with getting the robes on and off? (On the next Robo After Dark….) Also, this head/neck remind me more of a snail than a hammerhead shark.
I wonder how they get all the cloth goods on originally before packaging. Maybe it's so high because they have to pay someone to spend 30 minutes on each figure putting all the clothes on. 😂
That is a cracking looking figure. I think the soft goods work well with the overlays. Makes a nice change to get another proper alien figure. I mean I love troopers etc, but this is even more Star Warsy. At that price I wouldn't risk disrobing him. Kudos to Robo.
When you mention how His lower legs bulk out, I couldn't help but wonder, How does He get those Huge Feet through the Legs of the Peddal Pusher Pants He's wearing under the Robes... LOL
I would say like you think they will release a Hammerhead figure cause if you look at the clothing he is wearing underneath it sorta matches from Star Wars Cantina Scene Character Hammerheads clothing.
Can’t wait for the Transformers :Animated episode, since it was plagued with a similar cartoon aesthetic, even though it’s the most grim and serious transformers show. Constantly being compared to Teen Titans didn’t help the old men audience wanting more G1. The best TT media was the TT:go episode “Hugbees”, I will fight for this.
I will certainly be buying a two for custom/default dok. Thankfully I have disneyworld annual pass and get discount when he hits the shelf on planet at galaxy's edge, otherwise.... probably not.
I'm debating if I should wait for a galaxy's edge sale or hope that Hasbro does another mainline Ithorian without soft goods so the price is lower (even an unnamed Army builder would be fine)
Oh my lord, that is definitely for hard core collectors only. $45 for a black series is ridiculous… I’d gladly pay more for a figuarts or something. But black series?!
Wonderful overview. Funny bits. Great info. Dok Ondar is a great figure. Well worth skipping all of the Andor figures and whatever Legends. Cost is the resort up charge. Nothing is cheap at Disney Parks. That stinking droid pack which gave me the pit droid wasn’t $75 worth of goods. Dok is a funny character as most of the time the animatronic is pantomiming being asleep on his stool behind his desk at the antiquities shop. Sure he moves in the comics. I dig it. I’d be shocked if a Momaw Nadon was more than deluxe price. He’s not going to have the soft goods and will come with a few accessories like the staff, cup, and blaster in the Saga series. Awesome figure too. Probably won’t come with that massive canon from Power of the Force figure. I love BoBF. A Mayor Mok Sha’iz would be sweet with the translator apparatus. Ha. I made the same joke about mummified character due to the packaging. I really like the characters from Galaxy’s Edge. Bring on Vi Moradi and Lt. Bek and whoever else in another multipack. More creatures packs with Loth cats. Anyway. I like the place.
It's a nice figure but at $44.99 it's a no from me. That's even worse where I am in the UK where this is £44.99 on ShopDisney UK (that's $58.90). I'll wait for an Ithorian in the main line I think.
I was hoping to find this at Galaxy's Edge and went home disappointed. Waiting for a restock at some point--preferably in a set that includes his counter that the animatronic stands in at the store. THAT I would drop $$ on.
Kinda want it, kinda don’t. Definitely wanna cut those necklace things off and make a real one. Would only cost two or three pounds/dollars to make something decent and jangly.
