To my generation, Salacious Crumb is an accessory - it was always bundled with Jabba The Hutt. I'm 50. Putting it on a card does not make it an action figure.
yeah i can agree with that, actually i was hoping he would be included with the black series bib fortuna. but like i said, because of that unattainable TVC revenge carded crumb, id take one on a card
The master of disaster strikes again!! Fantastic video and nailed so much!! Thank you for your hard work and let’s hope someone important at Hasbro sees this vid!
I'm hoping this is a wake up call to Hasbro not only for the pricing of figures, but for new sculpts and figures as well instead of repaints on top of repaints. Hasbro should listen to the collectors on what issues are going on. Would be neat to see Hasbro directly respond to people after this HasLab fails...
I was honestly shocked when the Razor Crest was offered as a Haslab exclusive. The iconic main vehicle from the most popular piece of Star Wars media at the time, and they made it a Haslab exclusive? That sounds like the kind of decision that gets someone fired.
This 100%! Hasbro got seriously greedy with this one. I wanted the Rancor, but at $350, not only was it maniacally overpriced but the tiers were laughable. I might have considered this at somewhere around $200 but as stated in the video, this was nowhere near the value of the Razor Crest at the same price. And yeah, running this campaign concurrently with two other crowd-funding projects is just bad form. Did Hasbro really think there's no crossover in the fandom? No way most fans can afford to back more than one of these at a time, let alone three and at these outrageous prices. I hate seeing the Rancor fail but I'm glad the fans spoke up on this one... Haslab needed to be humbled...
You are right, I think timing was off here as well as the tiers to boost it. Maybe if they had release it at the beginning of 2022 when the book of boba fett is still running on disneyplus. The hype would have been higher.
Damn, this is the exact video that Hasbro needs to watch, I mean they should take notes also. Glad to see another great video again, you always nail it down. 👍
Mitch Soda Allen! Too bloody right they need to see this brother. It needs to rammed down them so hard they have difficulty shatting it out later, then remember how painful it was for a long time! Hope you are well.
@@davidedge2828 Yeah I honestly believe that Matt perfectly nailed it down in this video. I just hope that this won't be the death of TBS HasLab. Atleast I can't wait to get that Luke they're gonna eventually release in 2023, I don't have the RotJ one. Things are good here, just working on a custom Tech, hopefully all is well with you too.
@@restock_1731 i haven't got that luke either, but a: they are not releasing that as a tier because it will get nowhere near, so b: they've made it and we'll get it for rotj. Custom tech! What are you doing? I haven't enjoyed mine really as my little bb shelf is about 9 inches away from my lounge ceiling and I need a telescope to see it! Officially ran out of room brother! Still sat on fence for rancor. Struggling with justifying this near xmas, didn't save up, don't have a credit card (10+ years now) and finances aren't exactly overflowing at moment....
@@davidedge2828 I already customized Hunter now I'm working on Tech. I'm making my figures look like they've lived through battles. Lol. Honestly it's really fun to paint and scuff up figures, plus it's kinda therapeutic. Lol. I've also ran out of room, so they look like a can of sardines. Lol. Yeah Rancor at Christmas time wasn't a smart decision by Hasbro. Shame shame.
I have been waiting patiently since they revealed the other tears to see your video and your reaction, you hit the nail on the head, perfect video and yes you’re exactly right the teachers should have been potentially the gamorian guard first then Luke Skywalker then Ula then the rancor keeper and the overall price of the rancor should not have been over $300. The background and bones should have just been included as part of the packaging. You’re exactly right about Hasbro taking us for granted and being completely lazy by re-issuing unoriginal crap. I love the black series but as of late I’ve sold half of my collection in order to start collecting marvel legends because quite frankly Hasbro Star Wars just keeps re-painting and re-issuing garbage rather than making accessible new figures. CKC you’re awesome love all your videos thank you very much.
Fantastic video mate, well said. Your right it's soooo expensive, for example in New Zealand i got the McFarlane Violator for $99nz and that is amazing really is, and the Rancor $800nz wtf Hasbro
The haslab has the potential to be something very special. Instead of making it a publicity stunt to make the largest figures ever they should focus more on giving us multiple figures or play sets that we've always wanted and haven't got and as long as we're paying for it upfront they should be able to produce whatever it is the people want.
I love that you said that, they feel they can make whatever they want... It's honestly been that way since 2015. Their contempt against their customers has reached ridiculous levels! News flash Industry insiders & manufactures, these are still consumer products and luxury at that! We can choose whether to buy or not to buy at any given point!
Once again Matt you have some'd this debacle up perfectly, keep up the great work and hopefully one day Hasbro mite start listening to the fans instead of just taking their cash and rubbing their hands.
I won’t be backing the way overpriced unexciting Rancor. Hasbro just keeps ripping us off w/ repacks and dumb shit like the credit collection and now they try to slide the Rancor by us thinking we wouldn’t speak up. Well Hasbro, cut the shit bro and give us something actually worth $350. Otherwise just keep shoving repaints and repacks up our asses until you bring us something that will mind trick us into forgetting this little mishap. Great video as always CKC!
How is Hasbro ripping anyone off with repacks?? You and you only choose what to buy. If you buy a figure you already have, that's on you. Nothing wrong with repacks. There are new collectors out there. Older collectors who may have missed a figure. Just because you may have a certain item, doesn't mean a company should never repack. The rancor is definitely not over priced. The arms alone are about 4 BS figures. $100 easily right there.
If they were gonna include a figure other than Luke that goes with the rancor it should’ve been the beast master that cried after Luke killed it. Because as far as I know there’s never been a release for him TVC maybe but black series never.
Let’s not forget the Black Series Snowspeeder was a larger 6” vehicle that is excellent and Collectors picked up 😏 I waited till Black Friday Sale, got it for $85 from Amazon 👍🏼
yes that is a smaller vehicle but almost the same applies to that one. i didnt pay retail price either. some collectors picked it up, but most waited until it was on sale. online retailers STILL have it in stock
There marketing team is just a bunch of 20-something SJWs... That's why you don't have an Oola, BTW, because it's okay to put that character in the source material, but if you make a toy you're a slavery promoting white supremacist. This would have been way better and cheaper from any of the import companies, MAFEX would have gotten this right and there would be no tiers but they would release all the related figures individually (yes, it would take a decade, but still).
@@leroybrown9143 thats a good point, maybe if they released related figures during the backing period in the regular line, or even announced them in the pipeline, like malakili, oola, or even some of jabbas guards, it may have sparked more interest
@@CANTKILLCHEWIE Agreed, that way they could have reduced the initial cost to something palatable, like $225, because the cost to them would just be the Rancor and one new figure, the Keeper. Just release the rest in a wave downstream as regular carded figs, they could even name it the Rancor wave and have Oola, Luke, Lando, the Gamorrean Guard, etc. in the wave. Thanks for the vid.
It's a shame that HasLabs' whole model (which WizKids is now doing to their miniatures line) is "We see how much these pieces are going for on the after market - how do we gouge for that price upfront on day one?"
I have always been cynical towards Haslab. Fanboys always attack me for it in the black series groups but this garbage needs to STOP. Haslab is a cool thing for some people but why not worry about properly distributing products so I don’t end up finding a $200 Rex figure at Ross for $3?
The only thing that made me say wow when the Rancor was announced was the price. I’d like to have it in my collection but I feel like Hasbro is taking advantage of me with this whole deal. They should have done a better job with the whole situation.
Please let someone at Hasbro see this video. This haslab project is the final nail in the coffin for me. I've spent thousands of dollars on Star Wars toys, and now I'm done with collecting and selling all my stuff.
As someone who fits that “younger” generation, I do have a lot of black series figures. As time went on (I’ve only had the money to start collecting for like a year) I realized that getting a black series release is a pain in the ass. I’m also a prequel fan, and god knows hasbro AND Lego hate the prequels.
Great points made and fair shots at all of us for buying repacks ALL OF US! I hope Hasbro listens and watches youtube there are so many videos about what fans like and want. I hope SH Figuarts does make a Rancor so we can stick it to Hasbro
I too am a in box out of box collector. Some things are just too awesome to not be posed. Some things are just too rare to dare open. I love how my hobby causes me an internal struggle of what to do with my figures. Then I just spend more money and buy 2. Yup I also have a problem. Haha.
Hasbro can't start charging Hot Toys prices. Even Hot Toys prices are insane, but the quality is there. Hasbro really needs to look at the marketplace. In theory, Hot Toys might charge $400 for a Rancor and it would practically be a maquette. The Hasblad Rancor only looked a little better than the 1983 ROTJ Rancor. Come on! No one's paying $350 for THAT!
Hasbro can be one of the biggest scammers out there, just look at the 90’s Power of the Force line. Those figures are 25 years old and are cheaper to buy now than they were then. Collect what you like and be careful!
I was sooo excited for this when announced. But then the price and repaints were announced, uh what? It would have been a slam dunk if they would have just made the Rancor keeper and another fig we DONT have yet. So sad...and the cardboard background. Something that should come as part of regular packaging?? Ball dropped instead of mike dropped!!
Wanted it at first, but they killed all interest for me with the tiers combined with the price. I picked up a snowspeeder i never got the other day and I'll be getting the Proton pack instead. Maybe one day they will revisit the Rancor, who knows, but as of right now just not interested.
Excellent video as usual covering pretty much everything. How on earth can hasbroke take what should be the most exciting thing they have ever done with the bs and f##k it up so comprehensively? I am staggered. It just beggars belief. Wrong choice, (ATST) wrong price, wrong tiers, wrong timing at Xmas, plus 2 live haslabs alongside, straight off galactus???? Who the f##k makes these ridiculous decisions and why do they still have a job? You could literally not roll out a more hapless project from the patrick leak initially, to the losing of 100s of backers straight after an event designed to increase them if you tried to! You could not conceivably do this poorly by actively trying to fail. Somebody is shitting us here. They must be. It's like a really bad April fool joke....
Same thing is happening/happened in the Transformer toy space (also Hasbro). Hasbro was initially putting out cheap, plasticky, grade school engineering toys (based on new wave & Bay transformers series that no one cared about). The brand was pretty much deaded...but then, a few 3rd party companies stepped in and starting making the "grown up" versions of original 80's Transformers toys (using superior transformation engineering, high quality plastic and die cast metal, life like color and detail, etc..) and really sparked the new retro Transformers market. Hasbro then had to step up and expand its Masterpiece line. Grown up versions of G1 Transformers, up to Transformers: the movie sell like hotcakes, because it respects the brand and the fans that started it all, instead of abusing it.
You're analysis and levels of scope on your projects are amazing Matt. LOVE your voice as always and your passion. Bottom line, like your said you want the Rancor to win... We all want Star Wars to win..i know hasbro looks at serious Star Wars content creators, so hopefully you helped them see. KUDOS😻😻🦸🦸
I agree with all of your points. I want the rancor, but the tiers are almost laughably disappointing and the base price was already a bit inflated. Hasbro will likely never release Oola or Malikili in the regular black series line, so why not include them here? Makes no sense
Out of all of the projects around this time of year, I just had to back the Proton Pack because it felt like I was getting the most out of my money. That is a project that deserves to be fully backed, while the rancor is just unfortunately a sad circumstance.
Honest question, looking for clarification. Why are black series figures so expensive when Star Wars isn’t even that popular among kids anymore. And I mean like at all, kids don’t care about this stuff, so what are the adults doing buying overpriced figures? These figures should be an average of 18-20 bucks, this is ridiculous. A lot of the characters are like 3 feet tall in the movies. WHY ARE THEY $22?? And why is hasbro, a billion dollar company, asking for money to make figures that they then sell to you by taking your money again? How does that work and why do people fall for that?
so star wars has the biggest adult demographic of collectors for pretty much any other toy line some have been collecting for over 40 years. the regular price of the 6in figures was 18-20 until a couple months ago when hasbro raised the prices of all figures of their major toy lines including star wars black series. i agree that the smaller figures like yoda shouldnt also be regulaor price, especially since they charge more for "deluxe" figures that are larger, but thats unfortunately the case. also, out of all the licenses that hasbro has to pay for in order to manufacture figures from that IP, star wars is the most expensive which means they make less per sale of star wars figure than any other toy line, and ive heard its really not much at all. but the initial idea of haslab was agreat way to give collectors something larger that hasbro wouldnt normally chance making due to the risk of not selling enough to break even. it seems it has turned, however, judging by the rancor, into something where decisions concerning profit have trumped creative decisions which looks like has doomed this specific haslab. hopefully they get the message
hey yes youre right, they arent new molds, but they are new figures, the silver surfer has a new head sculpt, paint job and accessories, and the frankie raye figure has never been released before. ML has been out for so long that its so much more likely that they would have a mold already that would work for a new figure. but thank you for pointing that out
Agree this was a price point issue. I felt this from the outset. Set the price right (for what it is), and you got market demand. I would have seriously tempted art a much lower price. None of the tier were any good, indeed, as many say, a joke.
Hugely overpriced, they are taking the mickey out of collectors. Great video and i completley agree with all your points including the idea of being an older collector with a large vintage collection that won't go anywhere near the entire black series line. Backed the proton pack in a heartbeat too!!
The item alone needs to be worth the price! And the rancor alone was not worth 350! And I know a lot of collectors that collect both open and on card. One to rock and one to sock !
Yeah I was about to rant, but changed my mind. I was once a die hard SW 3 3/4inch collector. I transitioned to six inch BS line, Im cool with that. But the 3 3/4 line has alot wider selection of characters. Black series pretty much put out the same characters out over and over.
@@CANTKILLCHEWIE lol but we love it! Just wish hasbro would send some action figures to these stores in the same quantity as baby yoda! You can walk into any target, Walmart, game stop, even the new tru in Macy’s and walk out with a veriaty of baby yoda’s ?? Drives me crazy when you go down the toy section and you see the entire line of jurassic Park, baby yoda in 12 different sizes ! And other toy makers have there products stocked but not hasbro, gi joe and Star Wars are like trying to find Willy Wonka’s golden ticket !
@@theviking6052 dude yeah man, i went to 2 walmarts the other day, and every other action figure line was stacked except Black Series and TVC, and that includes other hasbro lines like GI joe classified and and GI joe retro collection
@@CANTKILLCHEWIE I know it drives me crazy! I mean how is it possible! It literally feels like they make there figures hard to find on purpose. I can’t think of any other explanation. Nothing about it makes any sense. Hasbro I’d a multi billion dollar company, they are one of the biggest toy companies out there! And then pre orders! How is it that ALL my pre orders DONT get to me untill 6 months after they hit shelves! I was under the impression that pre ordering should get your order first! I don’t understand why all pre orders aren’t all sent out before you put them on the pegs . I actually just stopped pre ordering, by the time my pre orders come , I already have it so they become double??? Mind blowing how bad there distribution is! Mom and pops stores operate more efficiently!
I think collectors would have preferred a international re release of jabbas sail barge with new tiers. I would buy two Because I display specific releases that I really like and I personally know over ten sw collectors in Australia that are screaming for their own barge after Hasbros stuff up of the initial barge being offered only to u.s and Canada.
Exactly! They already have the tooling. -By the way, I learned about the sale barge like many others one or two days before it’s cut off date. -The Disneyland neighbor (A 51-year-old fan)
@Ernest Muric Not just Australia... Here in the UK we have pissed off collectors too! One of my friends was going to back Unicron... Then he found out to get Unicron, He would have to travel to the United States to get it as Haslab's wont ship to the EU!!! Worse still... Third Party Unicron's came out that were BETTER QULAITY than Haslab's Attempt! He has now ordered one of them! Haslab's only cares about the Money... That's why they only ship to the US and Canada!!!! They don't care that their core collectors are INTERNATIONAL!
The reason I don't collect Black Series is because they don't have very many aliens from the first six movies. I am so tired of human characters. As a kid I enjoyed the action scenes, the aliens, monsters, and vehicles the most and they seem to be moving away from that.
yeah for sure, id love that. the younger collectors think they are useless however and that may be why they are going away from that particularly in the black series
@@CANTKILLCHEWIE I actually recently sold my entire 3.75 inch Star Wars collection and I don't regret it. I was so tired of waiting for creatures to be released to fill out spots and then also movie after movie comes out and is terrible and seems to be ruining Star Wars.
I'm one of the younger and newer collectors. I really do prefer the 6 in to the 3 in (mostly because I like using them and stop motion) but I'm personally not a big fan of the rinker. The color looks incredibly off to me
