Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster is a fully remastered version of the classic action first-person shooter developed by NightDive Studios. Players will assume the role of Kyle Katarn, a defector of the Galactic Empire turned mercenary for hire. The game is now fitted with a significant degree of movement and interactivity, a large selection of items and power-ups, and engaging environments to enjoy accompanied by 4K 120 FPS support, Trophy and Achievement support, and more. Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster is available now for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

It's straight up Doom for Star Wars. Even crazier, the sequel Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight was built upon on the Quake engine complete with competent melee lightsaber mechanics...in 1997

This is a 'remaster', not a remake. Basically they just used a better engine and upscaled the original game assets. DF1 had a real fan remake in 3D using the JKO/JKA engine (aka Quake 3 engine on steroids), but the creator only finished 3 levels before he sadly died - the work was beyond stellar for a single person working on it.

@@Hraktuus This! The only things the remaster has, which the Force Engine is lacking, are the upscaled graphics and recreated cutscenes. Yeah, they look quite nice, but if you're allergic to pixels, chances are high that you're not interested in old games either. The Force Engine has savegames by the way, a feature missing in the remaster...

Yes, it was cool. Mando was lucky the show's Darktroopers didn't have those annoying missile launchers that the game's Darktroopers had. Darktrooper encounters in the game were like the boss levels.

The Darktroopers were later carried over into the original Star Wars Battlefront (2004) looking like a toned-down version of the way they do in this game. TBH it was way more interesting seeing them there.
