Honestly, Chewbacca going out by having an entire moon dropped on him is a better service to his character than having everyone he cared about die around him and be given some medal, like him getting dragged around like a useless pup and being captured was worthy of being praised.
It’s insane how there were so many stories outside of the Skywalker family that Disney didn’t even bother to even attempt, so they just de-canonized the entirety of legends so that they could make their material look original.
The empire in canon: lasts 23 years for a miracle as everything in it is either shitty, inefficent or made out of carboard paper. The empire in legends: Allow me to introduce the Fel empire, born from the unification of the remaining imperial remnant forces who joined under admiral fel to form an empire that even after 100+ years still stood, even when a sith took over it, the empire stood and fought back, lasting forever after. Their ship was the ISD up to 130 ABY, a ship so strong that no pther ship, even if built to counter it, could actually counter it unless if of greater tonnage. And agter over 100 years of service, the palleoon class was introduced and became a worthy successor. Not to mention the badassery and efficency of the stormtroopers.
But even in the first Star Wars movie ever Stormtroopes were useless, badass storm trooper is definitely not in line with the original, and don't come to me with the "they weren't supposed to kill anyone in episode 4" theory because they kept being useless in the other two movies.
@@rafaelalodio5116 even so, badass stormtroopers only make sense, otherwise an empire with useless troops in a galaxy where there are races that can tear humans apart in seconds would last barely a year or two. I hear many fans saying stuff like "sadly this is Legends". The fact some good stories are called "Legends" doesen't mean they are less important than others. We have two versions of Star Wars EU, we are free to enjoy what we prefer. Never underestimate a good story just because it's not "Canon".
The issue with legends is the lack of new content for it. Still, at least Disney have left it alone. As it stands, the worst thing to happen to Legends was the 2008 Clone Wars.
@@AlexanderDiviFilius hmm. I'm not exactly sure what you're referring to but as general rule, if Legends conflicts with Disney, Legends is canon. On the other hand, there are times where Legends goes too far from the source material and gets kinda wild!

To any Sequel fan (or anyone in general) who doesn't know or understand why we disregard the Sequels in favor of Legends, imagine if you will that after the Rise of Skywalker Disney started to create a ton of books, comics, and games that tied into all events and time periods of Star Wars. They could range from small stories that help characters grow closer together or set up new stories, to large epic high stakes stories that spanned across multiple books and comics. They continued the story of old characters you loved like Finn, Rey, Poe, etc. But they also made new characters you loved. And while not everything about it was great (looking at you Revan Novel, Dark Empire storyline) it was still a worthwhile experience. Then 30 years later Disney sold Star Wars to Universal Studios and they decide to disregard all of it and says they aren't cannon anymore. And they canceled any and all current/ future projects being worked on.

With a children-eating slavetrader named Dezono Qua, the Yuzzhang Vong, the most boring looking beeings in the whole Star Wars Galaxy, a story that seriously spans a hundred years after the Original films, the more boring looking Rakata, to much OP Galen Marek, who kills Shaak Ti for the 431. time and so much more of this stuff? I seriously like "The Old Republic" and the old Comics from the 70's and early 80's, or some background characs like Teen Graneet, and Dude chill your life, a great part of Legends come back to Canon (exept Mara Jade, Starkiller or Cade Skywalker), even the Yuzzhang Vong will be mentioned in the 2027 book "The Great Book of Star Wars" as one of the first species to colonize the Galaxy and even some members will be named
@@thebavariansidonithano9050 yes I want them all back. Because it's far more more original than that mediocre Disneyshit lore. Palpatine returning? That was in the EU first. He returned, explained it why, and so powerful no one could defeat him. In fact it took the dead Jedi who became one with the Force to finally end him for good, never to return, thus ending his reign of evil permanently, but his legacy continues. Star destroyers that destroy a planet? EU made it first with star destroyer Conqueror, who could destroy a continent, moon, or small planet. Your great and wonderful lore created a gazillion fleet out of thin air and brought back Palpatine because they couldn't create original and new villains/factions. It's true that Galen is OP, but in the novels it's revealed Palpatine was toying with him. Neither him or Luke could defeat Palpatine for good, but some nobody who perfectly became a jedi in one day ended one of the most powerful Sith Lords. Disney making great EU characters part of their mediocre lore will be imitations, just a fraction of their creation and respect
Jedi in Canon: We're the good guys! We always win our wars with minimal casualties and we're pure at heart. Jedi in Legends: We have committed crimes that would be considered treasonous to the Republic, we have lost friends and family we have grown attached to some of which we have killed ourselves, most of us were taken from our families as children, we must find a way to push back and survive some of the largest, most deadly conflicts in the Galaxy while remaining on the side that almost always loses, we've been manipulating others for hundreds of years and essentially used a slave boy that was taken from his mother, many of us have fallen to the Dark Side because we have failed as teachers and we were unprepared for the Clone Wars. We consider ourselves good while everybody acknowledges the atrocities we have committed throughout our history as an order of heroes that try their best to walk the right path, but do not always succeed because even we know that we aren't perfect.

Then every thrawn book has to be set within a specific time slot, except the first one. But the 2 other books have to be while he is gone during rebels

The funniest irony is how so many people wanted the EU scrubbed because of stuff like Palpatine coming back from the dead, only for Disney to do the exact same plotpoint but without any of the buildup or explanations the EU had for it's version of Palpatine's return. You used to hear that argument specifically all the time for why the EU was '''bad''' and now people are awfully quiet on that front... lmao
The funniest thing was when whoever said it, I think it was either JJ or Rian Johnson, called fans "misogynistic" and "racist" for not liking their botched abortion of a trilogy.

Not defending Disney's canon but they killed off half the original cast in their first 2 movies and there are cases in the original trilogy where you could argue plot armor was in effect. Couple scenes from a new hope come to mind. Honestly a miracle that Luke, han, and leia weren't shot at any point while on the death star considering how many times a squad of storm troopers was firing at them in the open. Plus the scene in og clone wars where grevious ties up shaak ti for no reason instead of killing her feels like a real plot armor moment. Plot armor isn't really a strong argument between the differences of both canons.
@@limymage9186 Haven't you watched ANH? The Stormtroopers aboard the Death Star were under orders to let them all go. It is fully stated in the movie. George knew the escape would make the Empire look like fools, so he added a neat explanation to tie everything up. Even in ROTJ we are shown the Empire winning and killing Ewoks en-masse up until Chewie steals the AT-ST. Meanwhile Disney and Filoni make them so awful the Empire turns into a complete joke, never threatening, only stupid comedic relief.
The shear amount of ineptitude on display in the sequel trilogy is just baffling. They spent billions of dollars on the most profitible franchise in existence only to make a series of hollow and directionless films that hardly anyone are willing to defend anymore. It boggles the mind how the biggest multimedia company in the world could be so idiotic.
While I won’t deny some material that has been made under the Disney banner is good. The majority is meaningless. Legends still has the best stories and makes you love Star Wars
Canon: Empire suddenly crumbles after Endor, and the Emperor started Operation Cinder which is to destroy every remaining Imperial territory. Legends: Empire didn't fall after Endor and gave birth to the Imperial Warlords and Remnants which became their own factions later on. The Imperial remnants aren't exactly evil and are actually morally grey and complex. So was the republic and their rise to power. The Republic war forced to fight its way from birth into a successful faction, fighting every Imperial Remnants surrounding it. The fall of the empire makes sense in Legends. A galactic civilization doesn't simply disappear after the death of their ruler. The Legends fleshed out the Empire and their government and actually showed a very realistic downfall of an empire. An Empire doesn't just disappear after their fall, if they did, majority of the countries now would have been gone.
The Sith Eternal : Somehow, Palpatine returned. The Sorcerers of Rhand : We shall expunge all life from the universe and return everything to a Null State, for existence is fleeting. Destruction forever.
Over 300 trillion civilian casualties in the yuuzhan vong war. That sounds like a lot on its own but then you realize that's the only the officially recorded number only the civilian deaths that we know of. If all the civilian and Military casualties were counted I wouldn't be surprised if that number doubled or tripled.
Well with that superweapons thing in particular, Legends was kinda even worse, after DS 2 there was World Devastators, Galaxy Gun, Sun Crusher, Dark saber....
Why are we still here? Just to suffer? Every night, I can feel my leg… and my arm… even my fingers. The body I’ve lost… the comrades I’ve lost… won’t stop hurting… It’s like they’re all still there. You feel it, too, don’t you?

Honestly even though it's not as good as the Old Republic, I think High Republic is actually pretty good so far. I can kind of see why people are calling it a "replacement" for the Old Republic but it's really not. It's best to just view it as its own thing.
I love how rich and expansive Legends is. Disney’s lore by comparison is extremely underwhelming and it’s not helped by the fact that most of the major events now happen into shows and movies…and not in novels or comics
The moment when i lost all hope for starwars was when Kathleen Kennedy claimed that the sequels were hard to write because there was no source material to base them off of, like books or comics...
I honestly feel bad for all the people who worked on expanding and writing the old canon. Imagine just straight up having your work being de canonized just for a new trilogy that ended up being a dumpster fire of a mess with no concrete story planning from the beginning. Hell i’ve even heard they even complained of having an issue with lack of “source material” As if decades worth of story telling and expansion had existed before….
I haven’t looked at the lore side for everything in legends but the things I know are the things I really like, ex: boba fett being the mandalore, Vader’s 501st, the force unleashed, the entire history of the mandalorians, swtor and kotor

I'm sure if Disney had the chance to redcon the prequels and originals just to make their own star wars, they would use it. That's why I love only the Prequels, OT, Clone wars and star wars legends
I don't even like Legends that much, it's sometimes to ridiculous and people and things are too overpowered, but you gotta say most Stories are so much better than what we've got now.
RIP Mara Jade Skywalker. We thought you a Mary Sue at first, but if only we knew the true horror that was Rey we would bring you and your great relationship with Luke back in an instant.
Who thought Mara was a Mary Sue? People who hadn't read anything to do with her? People who only read the stuff after she was a Master? Her entire initial arc is failure, and her entire second arc is rebuilding herself after the very core of her existence was revealed to be built on a lie. Yeah, eventually she's kicking all sorts of butt, but she goes through a _lot_ of failure before she's dropping mountains on sith lords and using telekinesis and grenades to fight off enemies while she's stuck in a wheelchair.
