The same Tie Fighter and Laser Blaster SFX have been etched into our memories through countless Star Wars products. Whoever made those sound effects back in 1977 did a hell of a job.
That master sound designer would be Ben Burtt, he was involved with all the Star Wars movies until Rogue One And The Last Jedi! He was also involved with the sound design of Indiana Jones,Wall-E and The JJ Abrams Star Trek reboot movies!

Empire at War was my first PC game and I still hold it near and dear to my heart. With all the mods that are still getting updates to this day and the occasional upkeep patches by the devs this is an absolute hidden gem any RTS or Star Wars fan needs to play.
In Galactic Conquest, I like to imagine that I'm playing as the New Republic if I choose to play Rebels due to how large your fleets and armies can become. The AI never creates large fleets of Capital ships anyway, so you're much better equipped to take the Empire on mano a mano than you'd think.
I too remembering being 10 and being so hype for this game. I begged my mom to take me to get it lol. I can't even tell you how many hours i've spend in this game and how many cool memories it has brought to me. I'll pick it up and play a couple times a year still and the enjoyment is still the same! what's awesome is that recently the engine itself was updated to allow further modding capabilities. it opened up a ton of doors for modders to do new things. originally there was a cap on the factions that they could put into the game around 15 or so and it's now WELL above 15 sitting at a chunky 100. they also made improvements to what the game can handle and much more things I as a player of the game not a modder don't really understand. it is very exciting and I look forward to what Corey , Mr president , and other modders can do.
I was 11 at that time and until this day, I still have the original game and expansion with discs and manual. My favorite faction, I love all of them but my choice is Empire. Great video!
So the game is still receiving patches but only the version through Steam. Speaking of Steam their are several mods that are still being supported in Steam Workshop. So if you are going to pick it up, get it on Steam and then check out one of the many great mods that can place you in the Clone Wars, or for the fans of the EU Legends for after the Battle of Endor.
I want a 40k conversion mod. Empire => Imperial Rebels => Eldar Consortium => Chaos the locals can be Orks that fight everyone abandon structures can be Necron structures that are just sleeping
+Nickyeah Well I suppose it could be argued that the rebellion would need to have a certain amount of power in order to function and that not everything can be hidden;) honestly though they did things like give each faction the same number of planets to give each player the same chance at the beginning of the game.
Any chance of reviewing star wars galactic battlegrounds? Built on the same engine as the famous Age of Empires 2, essentially a total conversion mod thats a fully fledged game. It even has an unofficial expansion mod called expanding fronts released a few years ago which overhauls the gameplay and adds new factions.
We need a remaster of this game with the republic faction this game feels like you are in total control of a galaxy war its amazing cant believe games today are Just call of duty or gta 😪🤕

If there is one thing that EAW did that even Disney couldn't 100% delete it. It was immortalized Expended universe in Thrawns revenge with all cool ships form then.
I'm far from a RTS fan but when I was a kid, I was a big SW fan and watched the trailers + official website of Empire at War over and over again at the office, where my father was working back then. We didn't have home internet at the time. My whole nostalgia from the old SW games comes from their trailers and official websites. After watching your review, perhaps it's finally time to try Empire at War.
Great review, sometimes I feel like Empire at War gets overshadowed by others even though it truly is a great game. The thing that I really enjoy about it is the care that went into making the game, and while playing it you feel like you're in the Star Wars universe itself. I got it when it first came out and still have it to this day.
Damn I need to play this game. It really flew under my radar as I steer clear from RTS games. I can’t do two things at once but I love Star Wars so I’ll give it a shot.
Wow. I've taken out lone Super Star Destroyers with a Frigate squadron (six to ten ships) in both Rebellion and Empire at War but doing it with one MC30C Frigate?! I love Frigates, which is why my typical Empire at War attack fleet has 8 to 12 Frigates, but that's insane.
A problem with the EA Battlefront games is, that slapping a coat of Star Wars paint onto the Battlefield series was exactly what everyone wanted, but they tried to be original for no reason, and ended up making something that isn't true to that series at all. Imo: Gameplay > Graphics
I subbed to you for your Mordhau review, but I'm staying thanks to you covering one of the games of my childhood. Also, you should do a review of the "Republic at War" mod when you get the chance.
RaW is absolutely awesome, and it gives players a Clone Wars era EaW closer to the original game, without making it as complicated and different as FotR. For better or worse, the gameplay still has the same feel, whereas the bigger mods like Thrawn’s Revenge, Awakening of the Rebellion, and Fall of the Republic definitely change the feel a bit. I do wish there were more voice lines, though. It gets old when just about every Republic land unit I select will say “Clones keep the scrap merchants busy.” or “Ohh, there’s gonna be a firefight!” or “Nothin deadlier than a clone behind the trigger.” I swear, I have most of the Republic voice lines seared into my brain perfectly since I main them. Not gonna lie, part of the reason I don’t play CIS is because my computer can’t handle the amount of fighters and bombers you wind up using in space.
Turn-based galactic map might also allow the game to hang on better, not drop fps A LOT and crash a lot if playing on the largest galactic star maps...
I personally think if they just made this game multicore supported it would make a huge difference.... The modding community could do so much then. At least that's what I think.... What do you think?
Petroglyph tried to do that, but were limited by the engine due to them. Considering how Petroglyph is basically WestWood, they know what they are talking about.
Rather than change real time to turn based they could just make you able to micromanage while paused like you can in Paradox games. Its kinda the best of both worlds.
Real-time star-map, as it stands today, sucks donkey balls. Good luck trying to manage ANYTHING when there is 7 different incoming fleets on a large map.
My favorite right now is Empire at War Remake mod. Mostly because it fixes a lot of issues I had with the AI and doesn't change too much in the core gameplay. It makes space battles absolutely incredible, but unfortunately hasn't changed the land battles yet.
So i have been getting back into PC gaming. I haven't since I was a kid and I absolutely LOVED this game as a kid. Buying on steam now. I couldnt care less about the graphics the gameplay is fun as hell.
i got the game in 2017..i have been playing it ever since now..i have dozens of mods, and over 4k hours on this game..so it really is just one of the greatets games of all time..but i do agree on the bad parts..but bout the auto resolve feature..we dont usually use it..since sometimes..surely in modded games..a small fleet of ships can kill several capital ships using the power of auto resolve features sucking in majority of games..like in the old version of republic at war..a planet full of medics could defeat a hugh republic army...just because of autoresolve..just..why..but i do like the real time map thing..makes it alot easier to do some stuff..also adds some other stuff with it
funny that you mention this because i'm actually creating a game like this in ue5 but with better graphics like the newer star wars, it may seem impossible but it is very possible.
I still play this game. Though I play forces of corruption. And the consortium is a pain in the neck. I was also disappointed that rebel capitol ships didn't get hangers and rebels really should have gotten special units. The imps get tie phantoms and Noghri Assasian. Why didn't the rebels get bothan spies
Empire at War would like to remind you that the Galactic Civil WAR involved the entire galaxy. The movies were just the pivotal moments of the war proper. The game lets you fill in just what was going on everywhere else. For the most part the game does indeed still hold up with the biggest bug bear I ever have with it is the potato intelligence units get when you try to micromanage them. Or just their pathing in general is...not great.
I play (Star Wars Empire at war) maybe someone would create another development of it with better similarities to that of Planetary antihalation instead of a single space battle and land battle join them together to create a zoomed in and out air and land style play through similar to Supreme Commander because the death star is so big there would be a Super zoom option where u can control the Deathstar and annihilate a planet while we are in a land battle or something or maybe fly a fighter from the ground up to the Deathstar and confront it or maybe select a Capital ship and build a transport with troops and land it in the middle of our land battle if I were rich I would design something like this lol
Hmm..I would say warhammer 2 is a safe bet since it's really easy to pick up if you've never played a total war game before. I was actually a big fan of three kingdoms as well, although it has some issues. Then there's the older ones which still really hold up like medieval 2 and rome. If youre more interested in that time period either of those are great
The first Rome: Total War game is old but holds up well, and I think it's probably the easiest one to pick up. And while they didn't get everything right, they did get a lot right, so it can be pretty educational as well! The second Rome game had a lot of quality of life improvements and I still play it on occasion, but it's also a lot more complex when it comes to diplomacy and political parties within your faction. The gameplay battles though, always hold up in a Total War game.
