The original script actually called for Han to reply with a more conventional response but Harrison Ford suggested the change to "I know" instead. He felt the simplified response would be in character and "beautiful and acceptable and funny." Great call by the director Irvin Kershner to agree with him.

I saw the original Star Wars when it first came out in theaters and I stood in line with a group of my friends when Empire came out for the first screening in my town. We waited in 90 degree heat for 2 hours to get in.

I was born in 1974, so Star Wars was beginning as I kinda became conscious :) It was an incredible time and, to a very young kid, felt like a way of life and like it would never end. Home video players, home computers and mass movie toy production were all newly arriving at the same time, so it felt like sci fi life was oozing into the homes wonderfully! And it all had a bit of a hip disco feel to it too (though might not look like it, looking back). It was cool too how its creator George Lucas was pairing up with master director Steven Spielberg on films like the Indian Jones movies, and Steven was creating a constant flow of utterly awesome other movies too.

Very few films are a perfect 10 Empire Strikes Back is one of the rare examples of perfection in a movie, over 40 years later this film still gives me goose bumps when the music swells and we hear Vader's theme.

Yay! Star Wars. Sorry, but I have to say this: As an Air Force soldier, it was hard for me to take my eyes off the hair bands. Left red, right green, like on the airplane. I know, it's blue but in my head I see green. Thank you for your reaction.

They do that on truck air lines, where the tractor connects to the trailer. Red goes on the left and blue on the right (if you're facing forward). Stop lights are the same, if they're horizontal, red is on the left and green on the right. I come from an audio background so I think it's backwards. R=R. Red is Right. From home stereo equipment to professional touring systems and recording studios, red is right. If you have a send and return, like for an effects loop, Red is Return. R is R, always.

Thanks for your reactions! We had to wait 3 years for this 2nd movie after seeing the first one (several times) in the cinema. Glad you're enjoying the series, and that you don't have to wait the way we did. Concerning being a small person, my mother was almost 1.55 meters tall but had a strong personality, so she appreciated the quote from Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream": 'Though she be but little she is fierce'. Thought you may enjoy that one, too, as well as the example of Yoda's zen-like qualities.

I am glad you enjoyed it, it's one of the few occasions that many consider empire strikes back to be better than the original. The reason why Han Solo was frozen and taken away was because Harrison Ford was contracted to do two films and they weren't sure if he would return.

This was the movie that hooked me as a star wars fan, i loved the first one, but if the second one had been just ok I probably wouldn’t have loved the franchise so much back then, but this one was so excellent I was dying to see the conclusion. Loved your analysis at the end!

This movie is why you were likely told to watch Episodes 4, 5, and 6 BEFORE the prequels. Episodes 1, 2, and 3 assume that you've already seen these movies and that you already know the twist that Darth Vader is Anakin Skywalker, so that reveal in this movie is not a surprise if you watched the prequels beforehand.

I was 13 years old in 1977 when I saw Star Wars in the Movie Theatre. I was 16 Years old when i saw The Empire Strikes Back in the Movie Theatre. Everyone in the Movie Theatre was shocked and Gasped when Darth Vader told Luke who he was. In the scene where Princess Leia tells Han she Loves Him., Han improvised with I Know. Han was supposed to tell her he loved her also, Harrison Ford kept trying to reply He Loved her, but it was not working. During one Take Harrison Ford replies I know. He explains to George Lucas that I know would fit Han Solo's Character more. George Lucas agreed.

Some fun facts: If you noticed, there is a different Vader here. The director, Irvin Kershner, instructed James Earl Jones (the voice of Darth Vader) to keep his vocal range more restrained. Not so much that is robotic, but he doesn’t yell, or get aggressive. He’s more menacing this way, so his timbre range is minimal. I found that very effective. Obviously, this film is darker in tone from the story, to the cinematography. You’re doing a great job with these reactions! Any chance you might do the Star Trek films after this series? I like all sci-fi, but Star Wars and Star Trek are my favorite!

I am watching you watch the movie with your cat, with my cat. Oh your cat's name is Lilly, I have a cat called Lilly. But the cat in my room is named Tiger. 🐯 I know I have a Tiger and a Lilly and there is such a thing as a Tiger-lilly. Michael Hutchence named his daughter Tiger Lilly. I have a cat named Brady. One time I had to take Tiger and Brady to the vet, and I thought about the dog on the Brady Bunch whose name was Tiger, Tiger Brady. 😂 Your cat looks like my cat Lilly and my cat Tiger. Lilly (my Lilly) is all white and Tiger is a tabby with white mittens and Sox and white on her snout. But she has black lips and a pink nose. Yoda was based on a cat. At last I brought it back to Star Wars. I was watching Carols by Candlelight here in Australia and Jay Laguia said "May the force be with you", because he was in Star Wars episode 2. I think this would be my favorite episode of Star Wars. I remember when I saw it for the first time I was shocked to learn Luke was the son of Anakin Skywalker ...aka Darth Vader. A wonderful story and took a dark turn.

Loving your reactions! This movie is really special. Often when you ask a Star Wars fan what their favorite movie is they’ll say Empire Strikes Back. Are you going to do Return of the Jedi next, or are you going to do the machete order and watch the prequels next before episode VI!? I used to say release order is best, but I’ve come around on the machete order. Seeing Anakin’s story first before watching Return of the Jedi does make it much more impactful.

Machete order is fine -- once you've already seen the movies in order of release. First-time viewers should watch the movies in the order they were written and intended to be viewed.

You will also like episode 6, it closes the Original trilogy. Then, if you want more, you'll have prequels (episodes 1-2-3), to explain things a bit better. But they're different (more recent, but the events happened years before the original trilogy. Some fans hate them, some like them. I liked them because they add a lot to Vader & the Emperor's backstory. Have a nice day.

Huh.. That's odd... I thought this Episode 5 was about the "Chosen one", and a prophecy, a journey of self-discovery, how good people could turn bad, and become misguided. Well, I was wrong, and this "Empire Strikes Back" film, is so much better than I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, I thought the previous movie Episode 4, "The Voyage Home" wasn't too bad... 😉 But this is movie, is so much better a movie. 😃

Millie, you, as always, are divine, but it seems as though a mistake was made in editing. With part 4, sometimes the movie was clearly visible and sometimes it was obscured, which is standard for reactions but with this one, it was obscured 100% of the time. We never once could really see the movie.

@@briantrash Now that's weird because unlike part IV, the image was covered by the words "Star Wars" 100% of the time for me. One wouldn't think such variability was possible. I'm using Firefox under Windows 10. I tried Chrome and it was the same.

Delighted to see, you’re doing some of the movies from my childhood. However, there has to be a better way to put this content out there the chopping of the sound on and off all the time it is very odd makes it difficult to watch. I don’t know what the rules are in regards to RU-vid, but that Hass to be a better way of doing it.

I watched the first part, but in the second part it seems like you're making it even more difficult to follow the events of the film. In this way, it is no longer possible to know when you are reacting to what. Others solved this better, the events remained traceable. Unfortunately, I'll skip this now. Many consider this to be the best part, but I think New Hope is the best, especially considering when it was made. It was a very forward-thinking movie, The Empire Strikes Back didn't bring such great innovation. And I really like those image transitions!

@@Tijuanabill Your reply tells me: A) You haven't seen the movies. B) You've never studied cinema. Those that do teach cinema regard Casablanca as one of the greatest films ever made. Period. The Maltese Falcon is the penultimate detective movie. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, although made in 1940, is as politically relevant as today's evening news. Ever see Big Bang Theory? It has A LOT to do with Ball of Fire (8 scientists-one beautiful woman). So, a popular 21st century TV series copying the plot of a 1943 movie isn't an impact on pop, culture and art? Wow, for sure you didn't see the movies I listed.

@@The_Dudester Above Sleepless in Seattle, a gimmick movie about early email, that has not aged well, I would put every single Scorsese, Tarantino, or Kubrick film. Literally all of them. I don't have to share your opinion you copied off the kid next to you. I can have my own. Big Bang theory is among the worst shows to ever air. It's literally a show about mocking smart people, made for dumb people. I don't know a single nerd that likes that show.

The problem of TESB lies in the fact that it is the second movie of a trilogy and has a cliff hanger. I personally like the following film „The return of the Jedi“ best, it features the cute little Ewoks on the moon of Endor and the emperor shows his full power. And Vader has an important role to play before the end. You will love it. And the romance gets a clarification, too!

RotJ is garbage. Rushed, recycled storyline, bad dialogue, incomplete special effects, boring second act. The best part of that movie is the stuff with the Emperor, but it isn't enough screen time to salvage the whole film for me.

I made a similar comment after your reaction to Episode IV, but I would be really interested to see a first-timer like yourself try the "Machete Order" and go from here back to Episodes II and III ("Attack of the Clones" and "Revenge of the Sith") before watching "Return of the Jedi". Without throwing out any spoilers, they tell the story of how and why Vader became Vader, who Vader's true master is, and really sets up the mountain Luke has to climb to try to achieve victory. You also see parallels between Luke's path and Vader's, and you'll find yourself wondering if Luke is going to take the same path when you get to Episode VI. There's also an extra surprise that you would get in Episode VI, but is actually done more effectively in Episode III if you watch it first. I expect you'll probably follow the "normal" path and do Episode VI next, but it's just a curiosity on my part.

Yeah, she’s great, but the editing made this almost unwatchable. If I didn’t know every line by heart, I wouldn’t have had any idea what she was reacting to.

What didn’t you like about her editing? The only problem I had with her New Hope reaction was skipping the Han Solo introduction.

I'm glad you're reacting to these movies, and yes, I understand how RU-vid works with copyright violations and 'Fair Use' policies, so reactors are forced to heavily edit the movies, decrease the window-size that the movie is in, and speak during the movies etc...but the constant 2 seconds of movie dialogue followed by 10 seconds of total silence...then 2 seconds of dialogue followed by 10 seconds of silence etc etc etc was becoming extremely annoying...lol
