Something I always loved about Luke and Leia when compared to their parents in the prequels is how their strongest traits are balanced. Luke is just like his mother and filled with compassion, love, and empathy (Mirroring her last words "There is still good in him.") Leia is her father - a natural leader and extremely passionate about and dedicated to her convictions and cause.
@susanzenonian5085
@susanzenonian5085 Год назад
The twins are a balanced embodiment of both parents, really. Thanks to their upbringing. Luke is very similar to Anakin when he was first found on Tatooine, and then matures under guideance. Leia (as we now know via the Kenobi series) was raised similarly to her mother and still has all the spunk of both her parents (and her adoptive ones), plus the compassion, drive, and sometimes reckless abandon they also both possessed.

Okay so there were a lot of alterations done in the special edition of this film some I can overlook like blinking ewoks and I do like how you see other planets celebrate the Empire's demise. There are two alterations I cannot forgive: 1. Is Vader yelling No as Luke is being electricuted. That should have stayed silent as you cannot even see Vader's face, but can see the back and forth with him hoping he will do the right thing by changjng that they ruined one of thw biggest rules of cinema Silence is Golden, 2. Anakin's ghost in the original you see an older man and it takes you a moment to realize that it is Anakin, but here they changed it to match the prequels actor of Hayden Christiansen which doesn't work as Lucas's reasoning is that was the last time Anakin was good, NOO the last time Anakin was good was when he threw the Emperor over to his death.

Return of the Jedi is my favorite Star Wars movie and I agree with you about the NO part. That was stupid. We didn't need that because we could already see the conflict in Vader. The part where we see Hayden, doesn't bother. Actually I prefer this ending than the Yub Nub song in the original version. And no, Anakin was good in the end but he was not in Anakin form, he was Vader figure. The last time we saw the real Anakin was like that, when he was young, so yeah it makes sense he appeared like that because that's when the last time he was a Jedi.

The theatrical cut showed the old man who played Darth Vader unmasked as the Anakin ghost in that final scene. @@QuayNemSorr Han wasn't even there the last time! And even if that _were_ her only reason, the fact is her reply to Luke telling her the big news (which was _not_ that they had a connection, that was already obvious to both of them at that point) was that somehow, she had always known that this news was true. Even if she didn't want Luke "that way" on the four occasions she kissed him, her statement was to imply that this is what she believes one does / can do with a man who one knows is one's biological brother. I actually am very shocked that this would be controversial. Everyone who knows the story knows that what you're saying is not at all how Lucas planned it. When he decided to make them twins, it was despite the controversy he knew it would cause, a controversy which he initially did not seek to create but just didn't really care enough to find another way of accomplishing the dynamic he wanted to accomplish.

I was six years old when this came out. My brother and sister and I had a ton of Star Wars figures, including the Rancor Monster (the big nasty thing under Jabba’s floor) which was THE COOLEST TOY EVER. It had movable arms and legs and jaw and it was big enough to eat a Barbie doll. Eventually it lost an arm but it was still the boss monster in our play room.

Tatooine is pronounced like "Tattoo-Een". Also fun fact, in the old comic book canon, Jabba's Palace used to be a monastery.

Luke's compassion for his father is what killed the Emperor in the end. You're right that Luke wouldn't be able to destroy the Emperor on his own. But in redeeming his father Luke had unearthed what was left of the light side of the force in his father. That is something the Emperor didn't forsee and what did him in finally. My favorite little bit that almost no one reacts to is that just as Luke is about to deliver the killing blow he sees Vader's mechanical hand then looks at his own mechanical hand. He realizes that although his hate was what enabled him to defeat Vader he had to let it go or it would consume him. I thought it was a subtle but powerful moment. It's a great story about the power of love and redemption.

Jeez, I just noticed I wasn't subscribed. When videos pop up on the home page every time, it is easy to not notice that. Anyway, the questions you had were what we all wondered in 1983 as well. We did not know the Emperor had his powers. We had not seen Jabba the Hutt but only heard his name, and had no clue of how he looked until the promotional campaign started. At the time, "Return of the Jedi" was the finale and most people, even my young self, saw this as a conclusion without any more Star Wars movies to come. George Lucas talked about wanting to make the prequels, but most people were not aware of that unless they read it in a magazine or the fan club materials.

Fun fact: They changed the song that the singer was singing and much of the music from the original movie. OMG, that Anaky Skytower was the best!!! Also, not sure if anyone mentioned it before, but the young Anakin Skywalker was changed after the prequels. Before they had the actor who played Vader under the mask up there. I remember being upset at not seeing James Earl Jones under the mask. I loved him as the voice of Vader so much.

Frozen Han and then the others are at Jaba’s palace on Luke’s home planet of Tatooine (pronounced”Tattoo-een”). I wish I was there to pause it and keep things straight for you, haha! The Emperor’s face wasn’t changing, just the way it was lit was. Burning is a Jedi funeral. Those scenes of celebration were other worlds in their galaxy, not just other places on that planet….you have to watch the prequel trilogy now to see them…and get the back story of Darth Vader etc.

As great as this was, the inability to in any way read between the lines or understand what was really happening, was pretty staggering. Cheering Luke on as he unleashed it on Vader was a total misunderstanding of the situation. Having said all that, this was still great fun. The undoubted highlight of course being the pronunciation for Tatooine. That was legendary

Clearing up a few things: name pronounciation: Obi Wan Kenobi (Obeewahn) Darth Vader (DarTH not Dark Vader) Han Solo (Haan - does NOT sound like pan, or can) C3PO (see-three-pee-oh) R2D2 (Are-two-dee-two) The ghostly apparition standing next to Yoda was indeed a young Anakin (Anna - kin) Skywalker when he was a jedi (BJ got it right), that's the actor Christian Haydenson who plays Anakin in the prequels (Star Wars I, II, and III). The little bears of Endor are called Ewoks. The helmeted guy in army green with the cape and the jet pack who took Han Solo is Boba Fett, a bounty hunter. In "The Empire Strikes Back" he made a deal with the Empire (Darth Vader) somehow, so he would be able to have frozen Han Solo so he could bring him to Jabba the Hut (the insanely large grub). Han owed Jabba $$ (remember from the first movie? how Han shot that Greedo guy in the Cantina? Han says "I know I owe Jabba $$, I just don't have it on me right now" and Greedo is basically going to take him to Jabba or kill him right there, and Han shoots and kills him first?....well, Jabba never forgot, and wanted Han instead, as a wall ornament, if Jabba couldn't get the $$ the next best thing was Han himself.
