Vader's last words really solidified a lot about luke's character. Literally the most hopeful person in the story. Everyone gave up on vader turning from the darkside, all his friends and family except luke. I always appreciated the way he desperately was telling luke to tell leia about him being right, being aware of how much hope he had and more people needed to have it.

Pay attention to Leia's face when she says she knows Luke is her brother. She isn't just flatly saying she already knew. She's looking inward with the Force. Vader did not know the sister was Leia. He could only sense a sister, and refers to her as such.

Vince and Shoshana may have differences but they both have many similarities, authentic enthusiasm, genuine candor, pure hearts of gold of kindness, compassion, consideration, hope, humanity, combined with their comfort and ease in allowing themselves to become immersed in the fantasy of the film's story & the readiness to accept character credibility with all their emotions, whether it's the fear of Emperor, the depth of the conflicted Darth Vader or the adoration and strength of the Ewoks, or the significance and humor of C3PO and R2D2, seeing two adults allowing themselves to enjoy the original Star Wars trilogy with the wonderment and appreciation of their inner child makes for the best, and I mean BEST, YT reaction of the Star Wars Trilogy I have seen. I can't thank The Perfect Mix enough for how much I loved watching them react to the Star Wars Trilogy... it was like reliving my first viewing of the movies once again...maybe even better?! This is my second favorite of all of the "Star Wars" movies. My top favorite is "Empire Strikes Back" and "Revenge of the Sith"(which you will see during your prequel trilogy watch). I was eight years old when this movie originally came out in 1983. And to an eight year old girl, Jabba was pretty darn scary to me at the time. LOL! I'll always remember waiting in the theater lobby until after Leia killed Jabba before I would go in to watch it. Luke telling Leia that they're brother and sister has always been one of my favorite scenes of this movie. Along with the Luke vs. Vader rematch lightsaber fight on the Death Star. This is also one of my all-time favorite lightsaber duels in the movies. I highly recommend you both checking out the original versions of the song played in Jabba's palace and the Ewok celebration. Both good tunes that were redone for the special edition. Also in the original 1983 version of the Ewok celebration they had the original actor who played Anakin Skywalker, Sebastian Shaw. Here he's been replaced by actor Hayden Christensen, who plays Anakin in the prequels. Up next, on to the prequel trilogy beginning with "Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace". If you both love Harrison Ford as Han Solo in these movies, then I very highly recommend that you two watch the Indiana Jones movies. Looking forward to the next reaction. 😊

In the novelization of the movie, Vader is protecting the Emperor. Vader's eventual goal was for Luke to turn to the Dark Side, so the two of them together could destroy the Emperor and rule the Empire. Vader felt that Luke needed more training and conditioning from the Emperor to firmly commit him to the Dark Side. If Luke killed the Emperor too early, such as at this point, Vader feared that Luke would turn away from the Dark Side, and go back to his friends.

I've loved this movie so much ever since I was a kid. It's a minor, minor thing, but you might notice that the pilot with the black helmet (Wedge- Red Leader) who helps Lando destroy the Death Star is also in both of the first two movies, and played by the same actor all three times. You see him as a very young rookiee survive the trench run with Luke, and then on Hoth as one of Luke's pilots (he takes down a walker), and then here leading Red group. Star Wars did little continuity things like that so well, and in ways that nobody had ever really thought to do before (or since, in some cases). This movie also does space/flight combat so much better than anything before or since. I don't think any movie has ever done such a good job of that. It made generations of young kids want to be fighter pilots, and spawned all kinds of follow-up media. There are books, and classic video games- some of the best made in the 90s, that are directly derived from Return of the Jedi. And on that note, I will make the same comment I do for every ROTJ reactor who includes it- thank you for including the heroic sacrifice of Commander Arvel Crynyd (Green Leader), who managed to fly his damaged A-wing into the bridge of the Super-Star Destroyer Executor, causing it to crash into the Death Star. Most reactors understandably focus on the Luke-Vader drama, but the little moments like this, which are rooted in the true human experience, are what make the space battle sequence so good.

Fun Fact: Jabba's race, the Hutts? They actaully had one of the first big space empires in the Star Wars lore. They're actually a lot harder to kill than it looks. Choking them works, but they can survive getting part of their skulls blown off and are immune to Force-mind tricks. Part of the reason why he kills the Admiral in Empire is because of his incompetence, whereas Admiral Piett (his replacement,) is not similarly punished because Vader knows that Piett is actually a competent officer.

6:20 Back in the day it took about 3 years to do big budget special effects heavy films like this. So in the real world this movie was released 6 years after the original Star Wars. Nowadays with better computer processing, a major studio can crank out a blockbuster series in under 1 - 2 years between installments.

So next up is the prequel trilogy, which is episodes 1, 2, and 3, and then Disney put out the sequel trilogy, which is episodes 7, 8, and 9 as well as two standalone movies, Rogue One and Solo. Episode 7 came out in 2015, Rogue One in 2016, Episode 8 in 2017, Solo in 2018, and finally Episode 9 in 2019. So yes, there's plenty more after this.

The order for the rest so that you don't lose any of suspense is 1, 2, 3 & 7, 8, 9. I actually saw this one in the theatre as a child. It is a terrific end to the original set. The prequels have actually grown on me. #3 being the best of that set. As for the sequels.. I have a love hate relationship with them. I think the biggest thing is the final resolution of the story in #9. Kind of a fond farewell. Back when we had to wait forever for each installment, you had lots of time to build up the story in your head and that had to be a ton of pressure on the whole cast and crew. Best advice - watch them then decide for yourself. Looking forward to seeing you do the prequels.

In the original novelization of this there is one extra bit of information that wonderfully fleshes out the end of the duel between Vader and Luke. Luke had become enraged by Vader's suggestion of turning his sister, and he briefly comes out of it when he hears the Emperor cheering on his anger. The moment when he looks between Vader's severed mechanical arm and his own mechanical hand, the novelization indicates that thanks to the black glove he put on after his hand was damaged he sees a reflection of Vader's corruption in himself at that moment - which is what brings him fully back to his peaceful self and he throws away the lightsaber. I remember that little extra every time I watch this movie (which is a lot), and I think it is a meaningful moment of growth for Luke as he realizes he's been getting darker - remember at the beginning of the movie when he uses the choke to push back the guards - he's using the force for attack, something a Jedi isn't supposed to do. His self training after leaving Yoda improved his skill, but didn't advance his understanding, so he was close to the precipice.

If you like this old-school style of film-making in the Star Wars Universe, watch Andor the prequel series that sets up why the rebels are fighting the Empire, and how the rebellion got started. It's an amazingly written, acted and directed show -- and happens prior to Rogue One and A New Hope.

I'm the same age as yall but I've been in the Star Wars community my whole life cuz of my dad. He watched A New Hope 7 times at the theater when it released in 1977, he was 10 years old and spent all of his saved up change on it lol. Its so cool to me to see others my age get to experience the full story for the first time. That was a great reaction! Thank you! I didn’t forget about my promise to reveal my most favorite line of all the movies I ever watched in my entire life, which was in the episode you’ve just reacted to and it is “I am a Jedi, like my father before me”. The Star Wars saga has 3 trilogies, having 3 episodes each (that is a total of 9 episodes). There are also some stand alone movies, labeled as “Star Wars Stories” (“Rogue One” and “Solo”), which you should watch after watching the entire saga. It was very wise of you to watch in the release order … now just continue with episodes 1, 2 and 3 where you will learn the whole story of Darth Vader, then 7, 8 and 9 … and follow the story itself. Looking forward to your next reaction. Salutations from a Romanian brother …

Your reactions have been so much fun to watch! (Your faces when Vader picked up the Emperor was hilarious!) I remember watching these movies when I was a kid, and they blew me away. All the characters are so good. The hero's journey and growth they go through really pays off in this final movie. The prequels (episodes 1-3) should be the next ones you watch. You liked Obi-Wan Kenobi, so you'll enjoy these quite a bit, and if you want epic lightsaber duels, you won't be disappointed 😉. Contrary to some people, I think these movies are awesome and they make the original trilogy even better. After that, things get a bit more complicated. There are lots of mixed opinions after Disney bought the franchise. One movie that is universally loved: Rogue One - It's between episodes 3 and 4, and ends immediately before ep 4 begins. It's a very good movie with lots of action. Then there is the Sequel trilogy (episodes 7-9) and these are the most controversial movies. The main issue is that the Disney writers opted to ignore the script George Lucas gave them and do their own thing... And the story suffers because of that in my opinion, though with modern technology they look great. Regardless, other people enjoy them and that's good. I'll definitely tune in to see your reaction to anything Star Wars! May The Force be with you my friends, always.

I find it humorous to see both of you in disbelief over the sibling reveal. No disrespect intended, either. It's just funny to me since I've known of this plot reveal for decades already. If you want the full backstory, the only course is to see the prequel trilogy. Many fans hate on it and the sequel trilogy for that matter. In my honest opinion, nothing will EVER exceed the OG trilogy's quality. Even a trillion years from now. Nothing will even match the quality as well. I feel both of the other set of episodes did just fine, taking into account my previous assertion over quality.

So, there's Episodes I, II and III, which were made about 20 years after the original trilogy. They're about Anakin's fall to the dark side and the destruction of the Jedi Order. And then an Episodes VII, VIII, and IX, about a new generation fighting a new fight alongside the older characters, were made in 2015-2019. Episode IX is the final episode of the Skywalker saga. There are also some standalone films called Rogue One and Solo which are set in between Episodes III and IV, and lots of animated and live-action series. They're all worth watching.

Three years separate the original movies. A New Hope 1977, Empire Strikes Back 1980, and Return of the Jedi 1983. George Lucas originally had grander, more complex plans with a lot of movies. Luke was meant to have s sister, but she wasn't meant to be Leia, originally. There were hints that Luke might turn to the Dark Side. His wearing black, pretending to be giving away the two droids as a gift to Jabba, using the 'force choke' when the Force is not meant to be used for direct attack and general sinister demeanor when confronting Jabba. This is the movie series that shows how to emote even when wearing a helmet that covers one's face entirely!

Something I find important is Yoda says he must confront Vader - never that he must fight or kill him. Luke has that interpretation, and Obi-Wan reinforces it when Luke says he can't kill his father. But I think Yoda wasn't saying that he had to kill Vader - he had to face him again to come to peace with Vader being his father, and let go of the anger and fear he'd been feeling since learning that.
