When Leia says "I have always known" everyone reacts like when she first saw him she was like "oh cool, my brother." the reason everyone reacts that way is because the way she says it... there is better phrasing that could have been used there, or could have put more dialog to clarify, without clarification for what she meant everyone remembers the scene they kissed and that is where their mind goes with that line whether meant that way or not.

In that scene, something very subtle was done (I hope it was intentional). Luke's tunic, up until this point, was always completely black, and we didn't know if he was going to turn to the dark side. The question of whether he would turn or not was the entire build-up of this movie, including the film's previews which showed Luke and Vader in the elevator together. By the time Luke is with a dying Vader in the hanger, the tunic is now open, revealing the white underside. If it wasn't intentional, it certainly sent the subliminal message that Luke would not turn.

However, when Darth Sidious (Emperor) designed his life sustaining suit, he made sure to include some quirks; it was extremely susceptible to force lightning. As you saw the little he sustained at the end was enough to kill him. Thats why he couldnt just grow a sack and stand up to his master. Awesome and entertaining videos!!!

What I mean is that not everything in Star Wars is intentional like it is in Breaking Bad. For example, episode 6 spends too much time on the Ewoks, and The Phantom Menace has a bunch of filler crap- and I say that even though I enjoy that movie. Breaking Bad doesn’t waste a second. Even it’s worst-rated episode, a bottle episode where Walt and Jesse kill a fly has an immense amount of character building and important dialogue. You should watch the original cut sometime. The scenes I'd recommend rewatching are the Vader saving Luke part (he doesn't yell a cringey "nooooooo"), it's silent but more powerful emotionally, and the ending scene has different music, no dance party from other worlds, and the ghost of Anakin isn't Hayden Christiansen, it's the actor who played Vader (Prowse I think?). Also, there was a reimagining of the Obi-Wan vs. Vader fight from the first movie called SC 38, and it makes the fight look more modern while keeping the feel of the original movie intact, very fun to watch, and perfectly done with how it fits into the story.

17:16 The thing with the release order being "out of order" is that it's actually a brilliant way to let the audience experience what was effectively the aftermath of the rise of the Empire, and all the erasure or rewriting of history and records that presumably went along with that event. By starting the audience at movie IV, we go in ignorant of what has transpired previously, and-like Luke-we have to rely on believing what we're told. That's why the Vader=father and Leia=sister twists work so well, because we're in the dark just as much as Luke is. If the movies were aired in chronological order, chances are that those surprises would not have been surprises at all.

Movies in a series have to be watched in the order in which they were made. Even if a later movie takes place before one made earlier, it was made in a universe in which the older movies already existed. Even if the creators do not do it on purpose, there will always be references, allusions, etc. to the earlier work that undermine the impact of the later movies if watched out of order.

The flashback order, I love watching these movies in that order! (Well, except the part where I have to watch Episodes 1 and 2… I hate these films)

I love the release order. First you feel immediately in the action in episode four to six, then the prequels feel like a train heading for a cliff that you know tragically can't be diverted.

This is a tonne of fun watching your journey with this saga. Looking forward to you getting to the prequels and beyond. There are definitely peaks and valleys, but it's mostly peaks as far as I'm concerned. I'm fully on board with keeping with this release order, even after all that's been to this point. Hopefully you hit episode 1 soon. Maybe do one star wars entry per week for now since there's so much to cover.

There’s also something nice about appreciating the directors take and timeline of the movie, It’s exciting going through the loopholes like this, it reminds me why I fell in love with Star Wars in the first place and a big reason was because of the twists and turns this sequence puts us through I feel like the chronological order should just be like an added plus for people to experience Star Wars a whole different way and that’s what’s beautiful about the franchise that it works going either direction

Jabba was a live puppet- I think they needed to make a whole new oven to bake/prepare his skin, it was so large, and it took something like 4 puppeteers to operate him. Edit: my favorite part of Star Wars reactions: seeing everyone- absolutely everyone- go from hating Vader at the beginning of the trilogy, to begging for him to act, to cheering for the man and then mourning him. Wonderful writing, always amazing to see.

Yeah, I think it was 2 just for just the head and then 2 for the arms, and one of those guys did the tail or something. It's an incredible piece of film engineering. Def worth watching the behind the scenes for.

@@Turnabout What sequel trilogy? There's no sequels I've ever seen, just some crappy knock-offs made by talentless hacks that didn't like Star Wars. Sure, would be nice if we actually did get some sequels someday though, there's a ton of good books they could use.

@@SunwardRanger83 I know how you feel, but it's better to just accept that it's a product now, not art, that the franchise you care about is not in the hands of people who care about storytelling, and just let it go.

I always found it funny how Liea ends up after the speeder bike chase like she was just living with the Ewoks for so long that they even made her clothing...

35:35 The first ones you see in the forest are Imperial Scouts, their armor, particularly the back of the body and the helmets are different to Storm Troopers. Medieval bows were certainly capable of piercing some armour, but the distraction is probably useful too.
@CDRhammond
@CDRhammond 6 месяцев назад
The ones riding the speeder bikes were called Scout Troopers which were a specialized branch off of stormtroopers just like with Sand troopers seen in ANH or Snow Troopers seen in ESB. Rogue One introduced the Shore trooper which was a class sent to tropical planets like Scariff.

Watching in the order they were released is THE ONLY WAY. Gives SO much more meaning to episodes 1-3
@Sandlund93
@Sandlund93 6 месяцев назад
It also ruins them since you know who makes it out alive. Which means that the rest doesn't, one can surmise even during The Phantom Menace that something like Order 66 must eventually happen. How else could the OT be the way they are? So it spoils the prequels big time. Episode order makes the fall of Sheev and the redemption of Anakin an even greater payoff. With Rogue One in the middle it becomes a 7-movie long saga with the same plotting villain in the background, finally being overthrown in this one. And you remain clueless all the way through about who survives and who doesn't.
@magicalpj

I would argue that you should do 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6. Preserves the surprise of Vader being Luke's father AND it gives a better surprise of Leia being Luke's sister. Once you find out Vader is Anakin, then you watch the prequels as a kind of "flashback" before going to 6 to see Anakin's redemption.

@@magicalpj No order but the release order is acceptable. The knowledge of what happens informs the story, just like (truly) it does in BLACK WIDOW. The idea that the prequels are spoiled by the OT is just faulty. It makes the tragedy all the greater.

If you pay attention you can see the arrows bouncing off the armor but that the ones that stick hit the joints. Its also established in further reading that the Ewoks (teddies) coat there arrows in what is basically strychnine or rat poison.

I find it really jarring to see those random bits of more modern CGI in these movies that were added much later in DVD releases. Like that singer in Jabba's palace, clearly not a puppet but entirely a CGI creation.

That first main leading Ewok, is named Wicket. They actually did a spinoff story of the Ewoks called “The Ewok Adventure” 1984 (later retitled “Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure”). It was followed by a sequel, “Ewoks: The Battle for Endor”, in 1985. I wouldn’t say that they were blockbusters, but as a child, it was entertaining for me. You could say it was one of the first in the adventure/quest genre to be created.
