Star Wars Follies: Micromanaged Galaxy Vintage Kenner 1982 

I loved the Micro Collection when I was a kid. I never had a problem pretending that the awkwardly sculpted characters were still able to blast away at each other. That was the power of imagination.

I had a ton of these as a kid. As a teenager I used em as pieces for the West End Games Star Wars RPG.

That nod to “The Princess Bride” had me rolling! Thank you. When I was a kid desperately trying to earn allowance money and get good grades to obtain more figures and vehicles, I was enamored thumbing through the little included product preview catalogues with the micro play sets. However, I wouldn’t bite because all resources were needed to get the main line figures and vehicles and, while the micro play sets were awesome, the die cast figures were questionable concerning playability. You know, I had gotten as a kid the Return of the Jedi Battle at Sarlacc Pit board game and love playing with the plastic figures of our heroes vs Boba Fett and Jabba’s guards for hours. So I think these micro toys had a lot of potential, it’s just that the main line toys were so damn awesome, you’d only love the micro toys if someone accidentally bought them for you as a present.

You didn't mention the fact that this was the only time Kenner gave Luke a BLUE lightsaber when it was the correct color for the figure.

Three years later and I still hear that song every time during that scene where Vader is “strutting” down the corridor.

When i sent away for my free Emperor, they took so long to send it that when i received it, they sent 5 Micro Snowtroopers as a way to "apologize" for the delay. This happen to anyone else?

An outstanding video about a terrific line! I was always more into vehicles as a child than action figures, and I LOVED the Micro Collection with all of its mechanical gimmicks. (An X-Wing and TIE fighter that you could blow up and repair and fight again in a flash?!? SOLD!!! :D ) For me, this more than made up for the characters frozen in their poses. I had the Micro X-wing and TIE as well as the Freeze Chamber, Wampa cave, Snowspeeder and Millennium Falcon! By brother also had the Death Star set with the exploding turret (which perfectly complimented the X-wing and TIE) and the Bespin gantry. These were my all time favorite Star Wars toys! Hell, they were my FAVORITE TOYS I EVER HAD, period!!!! Thanks for taking me back. :)

Wow. This was such a great episode. I was always intrigued by the Micro Collection, but I never got any since I was committed to the 3 3/4 inch figures. Now that I'm older, I appreciate these more than I did as a kid.

As much as these criticisms are cracking me up, these paved the way for the AWESOME 90's sets of Micro Machines from Galoob. I never really even knew these old ones existed till I found out about them many years later. These are seriously cool how they are modular too. I'd still give them an easy 9/10

Okay, that does it! When I get home, I'm gonna break these classic sets outta storage & set 'em up, reliving some awesome childhood memories!

I've been saying this for years and it's been agreed by many a fan and collector that the reason why Kenner didn't manufacture many playset after the Death Star of 1978 was because it was expensive to produce and other countries outside the US refused to import it. that's why the Palit oy Death Star was cardboard. While it's maddening that Kenner didn't produce an interactive Be spin playset. Can you imagine the size and therefore retail prices of a proper scale model? No way was Kenner going to do that. The European market wouldn't buy into it. The Micro Collection was I believe an attempt at trying to give proper representations of these environments and at reasonable costs that other markets would also buy into.

I had the carbon freezing chamber . It would drop Han into it , and come out frozen in carbonite . I loved it!

Great point about the Lando hatch in the micro Falcon. When I got the Big Millenium Falcon a few years back I expected -- with all the bells and whistles that came with that great vehicle -- that they would have included the Lando hatch too. Alas.

I haven't watched the video yet, but just wanted to let you know that I just got home from a friends house and it is nearly 2am here in Grantham UK and this is the best thing ever to come home to. I already know I'm in a safe place with great content and people that seem like friends. Thank's for this year's video's and I hope you both have a great Christmas and a fantastic New year. I LOVED the Micro Collection when I was a kid. Even now, I have the entire collection except for the Snowspeeder. I wish it would have continued...Especially the Death Star Throne Room.

This brings back so many Great memories I believe my dad bought me all the micro series toys. My cousins and my friends played with these toys all the time.

Excellent video as always! Lot's of fun knowing about theses SW lines as alot didn't really reach us in Sweden back in the 80's.

Went out to my storage building to pull out both of my Greyskulls, Captain Power base...and then I ran across these Star Wars micro bases. Thought I had all of them minus the snow sets, my parents could only find the snow cave. Looking through the figures, I sent off for the mail away figures because I've got them here. Didn't know about the S.Speeder or M.Falcon. Got some stuff to hunt down now.

Thank you for featuring the Micro Collection! This is probably the only series of toys where I managed to acquire all of them. And that includes the Falcon, snow speeder, and extra rebel and imperial snow troopers. I didn't mind that figures weren't posable. I liked that the scale was smaller because they didn't take up so much space. They were probably less expensive too. As a kid I was only vaguely aware of prices. If only I had kept it.

Don't underestimate the popularity of the diecast 😂 As a kid, whenever, I took my diecast Millennium Falcon into infants school on a toy day. It was the most popular toy.

I had these as a kid. I loved them

I look at the micro collection, and I'm reminded of another series similar to it in the 90s, where the focus was the vehicles with in scale figurines that only bent at the hips to fit in the seats. I had the Snowspeeder and the Death Star playset with Darth Vader's Tie Fighter from the series. ...Now if only I can remember who made them.

I never knew about that exclusive Falcon. Awesome! As always you're on point with childhood frustrations. Boba Fet, Lando, and upward shooting Luke frustrated me to no end. I loved the idea of the die casts more than I loved playing with them.

I absolutely adore diecast miniatures, I also am a raving starwars fan. This is literally a match made in heaven.

You can see where Galoob got their inspiration for the Star Wars micro machines range in the mid 90s. Those play sets all look very familiar.

Micro Snow Speeder?!?!? MIND=BLOWN

I had all of the Bespin sets as a kid, and I remember learning what the word 'beckoning' was thanks to asking my Dad after reading the figure descriptions on the box.

My brother and I had the Bespin gantry and window and a couple of the Hoth sets...I always wanted a mini Princess Leia

Awesome take on these. I never was able to get these, but I collected the Galoob Star Wars (probably the plastic version of these) They also had "folding" players with similar figures which bent at the hip. They also came out with "static" figures sets

Man, I loved these so much when I was a kid! I managed to get everything except the Death Star world and the snow speeder and Millennium Falcon.

these were really cool,i wish i had more of them. i did have a friend that had the whole Hoth world,we played with that a lot,so much fun.

DV!!! I've missed that guy. I ate, slept and breathed Star Wars as a kid, but I never knew about the Micro Line; guess I never saw any of those sets in the toy stores. Did they ever re-release them later on like the Power of the Force line? Those playsets look like they would be fantastic on display, but finding one in pristine condition might be a nightmare. More gold from Retroblasting, and the house looks great! Thanks for all your hard work, you guys.

I remwmber the Micro Collection came back in the late 90s, I had the Millenium Falcon which was awesome because it folded open to give you access to the living area, the pannels the hero hid under in New Hope served as a place to store your figures and the upper half was a ship repair area where you could place smaller ships to be worked on, I also had the Boonta Eve set which I liked but didn't play with as much as the Falcon. My brother had the Death Star which looked cool from the exterior and had a landing bay for Vader's Tie Advanced as well as what I think was the control deck. I don't think the Micro Collection was necessarily good for figures but it was great for ships.

My favorite Star Wars collectible is an ion cannon I picked up in 1990 or so. For a while, I was confused about what it was and why it wasn't scaled to fit the regular figures. I did use them with the cannon. The slots at the bottom were about the right size to be firing ports for full size rifles, but I had a terrible time getting figures thru the door!

This reminds me a lot of the stuff Galoob did in the 1990's with Micro Machines, but those playsets typically don't hold a candle to the battle damage action features on these old Kenner playsets. What was good about some of the Micro Machines Action Fleet toys was that some figures were semi-poseable, so they could bend to sit down in chairs and vehicles, but that had its limitations too. Hasbro recently brought Micro Machines back exclusively for Star Wars, but there haven't been many playsets, and those few that exist are underwhelming to say the least. They just don't make them like they use to.

I brought home a helium balloon from church one Sunday in 1983. I tied my Wampa cave hanging Luke to it, OUTDOORS, and let it go. And away he went. I don’t know what I was expecting to happen. I hope some kid found him and had a good story to tell.

Another amazing review RetroBlasting... There was another part of the Micro Collection according to Steve Sansweet's "Guide to Star Wars Collectibles" was the "Bespin Torture Chamber" which Kenner was advised by several parents groups not to produce because of that one scene in ESB where Han was being electrocuted to draw Luke to Bespin to save his friends was even longer but was shortened by about 30 seconds to get the "PG" rating. Looking forward to seeing what happens with "Broken Vader" next. Keep up the excellent work and MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!!!

great video i only had the wampa cave one bought in lionel playworld in 1989 yes 1989 i remembeR they were still selling till 1990 then by 91 i didnt see them anymore i thought they weRe cool but i couldnt find the others to complete the set either way thx for another great memory of toys from kid born in 1979
