How To Steal An Imperial-class Star Destroyer: Step 1 - Don't. Step 2 - Steal deactivated/mothballed Venator's instead -- With space for nearly 200 starfighters and a balance weapons loadout, they are a much better choice, with lower crew requirements. Step 3 - Really, steal anything but an ISD. Step 4 - In the event that the preceding was unclear, reread Step 3, until it sinks in.

Here's how I think you can capture a Star Destroyer or even two Star Destroyer's! All you need is a fleet of 16 heavily armed Klingon Negh'Var class Battleships and 200 Klingon Vor'Cha class Attack Cruisers, and 150 K'Tinga class battle cruisers, and 1,000 Klingon Bird's of Prey, that will decloak; surround, and take out the Star Destroyer's shields, weapons power grid, jam communications, destroy the fighter bay; so they can't launch fighters or shuttles, and hyperdrive just in case if they try to escape or try sending a distress call. Then beam over Klingon boarding parties onto the main bridge! Klingon warriors are much better trained fighters than those lousy Stormtroopers who have the worst aim ever! Total Klingon victory assured because Klingons do not surrender to the likes of those Galactic Empire Swine!!!

The point of capturing and ISD would not be to have the ship specifically, but the material wealth within. ISDs are usually fully stocked to do almost everything, you would have food, medicines, weapons, armor, parts, fuel and so on. Once the Empire catches up to their lost ISD the only thing left would be a bare keel. This is ideally.

At least there, it's the fledgling Galactic Republic - the Imperial Navy is still there and still powerful, but they are no longer in a position of dominance, and the -rebels- Republic can more reliably recruit and field large numbers than they previously could.
@MaxwellAerialPhotography

Capturing an ISD in and of itself wouldn't serve a significant military purpose, but it would have immense political propaganda value. It would first off be a powerful signal of the strength and capability of the Alliance that could help sway some fence sitting systems and organizations, who had doubts over the rebels capabilities and competence. Secondly it would be a statement of resolve for the Alliance to say that they are able and willing to hit hard targets. It could also serve a military purpose of forcing the Imperial Navy to expend far more resources to prevent something like this from happening again, and to repair its loss of prestige from the incident. Lastly you could take advantage of the fact that the Imperial Navy would not allow a ship like this to remain in rebel hand, quickly strip it of all useful supplies and munitions, and then leave it out in space for the Navy to try and seize back, run by a skeleton crew and droids, laden with a ton of booby traps, essentially a floating Fallujah. Make it so that Navy either has to suffer enormous causalities seizing the ship, or is force to just blow the damn thing up. If the Skeleton crew had a hyper-drive equipped shuttle, they could also escape at some point, so as to not make this a guaranteed suicide mission.

This plan have one major flaw. Why would ISD pull a heavy damage Gozanti in to own hangar space? It is unstable wreck that can have core breach, no need to endanger the ISD with such action. Check for the life signs, send boarding craft. If everybody is dead, inform the sector command to send recovery squad and tugs. Maybe leave a light cruiser to guard it, then get back to the patrol route.
@dreadnought-ai
@dreadnought-ai 7 лет назад

A 'heist' style operation would probably work better, as an ISD would be easier to secure immediately after its construction or on its test flights. Such an operation would require Rebels to infiltrate Kuat Drive Yards (or a smaller shipyard) as imperial engineers or test crew. With the objective of stealing the ship whilst it has the minimum of crew (or no crew at all) or ensuring it does not return from a proving flight. It might even be better to steal an incomplete ISD and carry out further theft to finish the ship. Several options for stealing it from dry-dock are possible, with the best being a fake reactor meltdown. Where the ship has to be towed (or under its own power) leave the yard with very little or no crew on-board at all. As ships can't be tracked whilst travelling in hyperspace stealing such from a high profile well defended location deep in imperial territory, is in theory totally achievable. As once the ship is in hyperspace, its gone. (tracking devices not withstanding)
@carbon1255

in this time in the rebellion it is litterally easier to take a star destroyer with darth vader on board than to infiltrate kuat drive yards and nab one.
@caad5258
@caad5258 6 лет назад
I see that working. Half of Star Wars (Canon) is infiltrating an enemy base to fuck with it. An improvement would be to add a distraction in a nearby system to draw off any imperial forces that would investigate this sudden disappearance. What would work with less important military equipment is pinning the heist on a organized crime syndicate. But I cant imagine what the Hut cartel would want with an I.S.D...

After consideration, I realize I should probably have swapped those two CR90s out for Dornean Gunships or Hammerhead Corvettes. The CR90 is far from ideal when the enemy has already lost their fighters. EDIT: Just like to clarify that I did consider Ion weapons and looked into specifics of how long they would disable the ship, but after I found a comic suggesting the Tyrant was disabled for quite some time after being hit by the Ion Cannon in Empire Strikes Back, I thought it best to just not use Ion weapons at all. (Though admittedly I can't speak to the specifics of lower yield ion detonations)

Not related to this video but to the only boarding action we see in Star Wars. In Episode III, Kenobi and Anakin are fleeing with the "Emperor" when the ships engines take a hit. The whole thing pivots towards the planet, but is still far outside a gravity field that a human would notice. However everything thing no the ship begins to fall towards the planet. This makes no sense for both real physic and fictional physics reasons. Real; the ship is falling and accelerating, so it's contents would be in free fall a plane doing a dive. Fictional; the ship has artificial gravity towards the floor of the decking, surely that pulls to the floor at all times regardless of ship facing relative to a planet. Is there a lore reason for this? Was it ever explained? Or was it just lazy scripting. I've been bugged by this question since Episode III was released... I still find it amusing.

Bismark and Tirpitz couldn't stand to british navy, but having them in certain area would require british to relocate several more battleships for the small chance they *_may_*_ be used_ thus removing them from another theatres of war. Same goes for Yamato and Musashi. Rebellion having ISD somewhere would force Empire to being able to field less of them against normal rebel forces because they would be busy countering single ship! Freeing space for your destroyers and submarines to raid much more freely. P.S.: wouldn't approaching from engines melt their ships?

A torpedo run on the main bridge by Y-wings would help with no fighters to contend with a well trained and rehearsed squadron attack should be able to take it out. If the bridge is destroyed it would mean the strike team would only need to take two areas instead of three. (strengthening the infiltrating forces and making capture and holding the two remaining objectives easier and more likely). And as the auxiliary bridge function is that of the main bridge the Rebels could control the star destroyer easily until repairs could me made. Also switch out explosives with the stun bombs used by phoenix squad on the assault on grand moth Tarkins star destroyer and you got a completely disabled crew, weapon systems, fighters and communications for the assault. leaving just the escort to take out with ease

If the Rebel Alliance was able to capture an ISD like this, they could use hidden separatist holdouts they would've discovered to create droids to supplement the organic crew and then use it as a defensive ship with Home 1 at Yavin. This would also give the rebels another, larger ship to escape the planet on when the Death Star's escort fleet came in with a retaliatory strike on the rebel base. Not to mention one with enough firepower to go toe to toe with other ISDs.

Why doesn't the Rebel Alliance capture some old Venators? I think Venators could be an alternative because (a) the clone wars era arms would make them a more economical alternative to the Quasar class carriers since they have modest enough anti-ship arms to defend themselves or even perform strikes and (b) they seem relatively fast enough for the Alliance's hit-and-run naval doctrine since the ships are relatively fast for their size and attack craft capacity.

Mara jade, use override codes. use a jedi with a lightsaber, practically any jedi. Thrawn, from a guerilla campaign from exile on a feral world. Starkiller, by threatening to smash it into a planet, kyp duron, equally. The list is so huge.

I'm guessing that the Rebel Alliance got a few ISD ships after the battle of Endor. With the Emperor, Vader and a bunch of other important Imperial leaders gone there would have been plenty of defectors. And that really is the best way to get the ship, with most of the old crew willing to work for the rebels.

it depends on who those captains are, war crimes or just loyalty to a cause superases loyalty to an individual. if star wars was realistic the endor fleet would have just punded the rebels to death after they lost the 2nd death star then burned the moon with orbital fire. no more rebels (also gravity well generators to stop the rebels from escaping). the leader of the fleet would then probably become the next emperor as he had the prestige of ending the rebles although other imperial war lords would challenge him and imperial civil war starts.

Badger from what I could see most of the fleet was spread out from the death star to the flanks of the rebel fleet making at least half but due to the physics of how space and explosions work most likely 4 out of 5 (or more) of the fleet survived and since it took the entire rebel fleet to bring down The executor ssd the rest of the imperial fleet probably already damaged the rebels shields so after the explosion they would have easily moped up the rebel fleet

Crew the gr-75s with droids, so they don't cause a loss in personnel, and and mix a few astromechs into the commando teams for support Purposes, and Idk about the exploding galante, I'd fill it with commando droids from the clone wars as I know there are plenty of them lying around, and have them cause as much havoc as possible without to much damage to the ship, a good blaster fight going on in the hanger would tie up strike craft capabilities just as well as blowing up the hangers, and any spare vulture droids or reactivated clone wars stuff would be great here for this and dont tell me the rebels don't have any left over stuff.

in legends the rebels had large numbers of separatist droids at their disposal but didn't use them openly (i beleive they were used separate from rebel fleets so as to be blamed as separatist hold outs or pirates) because 20 or so years of imperial propaganda made any open use of battle droids and such the equivalent to waving Nazi emblems in our world. in the new cannon we have 2 major post endor factions that are basically CIS factions, intill we get more info on them i will head cannon them as separatist turned rebels turned back into seps after the war. i also head cannon them useing B1 and B2, etc, droids in their armies but like modernized (like new CUP and programing and simplifed production, FYI B1s are already very good the only real problem was that their proceesing units were too cheap slightly better CUPs which are now cheaper 30+ years later and we have smart B1s with maybe slightly better eyes and new formula for armour, the B1 was often showed in cannon and legends as being stronger than clones [eg one battle droid easily lifting a shell then latter 2 clones struggling to lift the same shell, or that jedi game back in the early 2000s were B1s could 1 punch you]) infact th rebels could use their resauces and simply install program updates in regular B1s and have better troops then their standard men, i mean in the movies B1s are actually quite accurate and take cover so are already not that bad soldiers with improved 'brains' they would be exelent grunts. upgraded clone wars vet droids would also be very useful (remeber star wars droids learn and stuff from experiances so droids surviveing battle could be very effective latter. a cool star wars rebel scene cud have a vet B1 exclaiming how 'he' fought clones and even saw a jedi, these storm troopers are nothing

A second option is having the troops eject from the freighters in spacesuits with thruster packs on them just as the rebel combat group jumps in. The GR75's could be installed with a remote control system and be used as guided missiles against the raiser and light cruiser to disable/destroy them without risking the Nebulon-7's or CR90's. The rebels could then quickly deploy their fighters to disable the ISD and the troops could manually fly into the ship as described in the video after the fighters bomb it.

@Spacedock - What about just blowing the mane bridge? It makes the ISD think that the Rebels are trying to destroy the ISD for a longer time. The attacks on the rear could be missed on the engines. You could also take out several of the engine exhaust-port cones. The ship needs a Hyperdrive, not full sub-light for this to work. Now, we have an ISD with no main bridge and several damaged engine exhaust-ports. (Jamming started imitatively at the start of the battle. The distress signal might not have gotten through, and the ships cannot talk to each other.) There is no ship captain - even if they are still alive, it will take time to get the the aux-bridge... The make to the aux-bridge and engine room. Then use the ISD's guns on the other Imperial ships. I also think that Ion Cannons would work well. Yes, they bill blow fuses and trip breakers. ISDs should be designed to fix these issues quickly. A 'mission kill' ship does not mean a destroyed ship... Just because an Ion Cannon knocks out does no mean that the ship needs drydock to be fixed. We see this over Hoth. At least one of the SDs is hit with an Ion Cannon, yet within a half-hour they all jump out...

I call my version Confederacy II: Electric Bugaloo. First: Ships, I'm not sure when they acquired it, but if it's available I'd replace the flagship with the Lucrehulk Battleship the rebels used in the failed attack on the Death Star. Either way, I'd add a Munificent frigate, and 2 more GR 75s. The frigate is there to help take down the escorts more quickly, and to help spread the Star Destroyer's fire. If available I'd also bring one of the frigates that were predecessors to the Imobilizer. 2nd: Prep work. I'd arrange for agents to infect off duty crew/stormtroopers with that debilitating intestinal bug that they used in one of the X-wing books. Also, if I could find a gadget to jam the local holonet, I'd be sure to bring it along to delay the distress call. I'd also arrange several small hit-and-run raids for just before the attack, so any response fleet would be as distant and spread out as possible. Honestly, if at all possible I would hit the SD while it was in a Deepdock, and try for a two-fer. 3rd: Troops. As many of my troops as possible would be equipped with vacuum rated armor. Also, the 2 extra GR 75s would be filled with clone wars era battle droids, as expendables to shield and assist my strike team. Also, the team would be liberally supplied with Astromechs. 4th: Combat. If I'm unable to acquire an interdiction vessel, then my capitol ship would be ordered to "flee" into a gravity well, so that the pursuing Star Destroyer couldn't escape. As soon as they've dropped their troops, the GR 75s would be ordered to micro jump to a location on the other side of my flagship.

A typical Roman legion was 5,000 men which consisted of 10 cohorts. The typical ISD would hold something like 10,000 stormtroopers. So that would be 2 legions of those bastards. No way 180 commandos are fighting through that split into 3 groups of 60.
@weberman173
@weberman173 7 лет назад
problem with Not Splitting is... Self Destruction as a Thing on an ISD like Spacedock said.... an Imperial Captain was not allowed to let his ship fall into Rebel Hands and he was instructed to use the Self Destruction if there is no other way... so.... if they manage too capture the first Key Location the Captain would just vent this Section of the Ship and ore trap them in till Troopers Arives, if they Manage to caputre two Locations he would do the same ore even consider Self Destruc at that point. and of the Rebels managed to Secure two points and are going for the bridge.... at this point the Captain would Certainly either already gave an Distress Call so that Imperial Ships are only a few Moments away(it woudl take at least like 2 Hours(probably more) to caputre the Aux bridge and Engine room) ore did have a big ammount of Troops near it, ore would give the Command to Self Destruct. they need to Capture all 3 Location preferably at the almost exact same Moment. if you controll the Main and Aux Bridge you can Vent the Ship, but without controll over the Engine room they would self Destruct the Ship before they would die. maybe DESTROYING the Main Bridge with Bombing Runs would be something to consider... even if it would somewhat compromise his Combat Ability(even if not much.... maybe even not at all) and just attack the Aux Bridge and Engine room
@lamezorlord

That was my thought. Couple hundred commandos, even killing 10 to 1 men, would be simply swamped in the 10k odd storm troopers around the place, who would all be moving towards the detected breach.
@caad5258
@caad5258 6 лет назад
You are correct, the Hijack of the ISD is probably the biggest risk in this plan. However it would take a while for the majority of imperial troops to muster to the defense, given the shear size of the warship. Additionally the ISD is full of choke points and corridors which would allow the rebels to delay reinforcements as they secured their positions. It all comes down to the timing. How long before the Captain realizes the threat of the boarding action, how long it takes for the storm troopers to respond, how long it takes for the rebels to secure the rooms, how long can the rebels delay before they are repulsed. Given that the Empire is characterized by nepotism, incompetence and infighting, it's a coin toss as to whether the Captain is as dumb as a brick, or somewhat intelligent. So the Rebels have a chance...

One thing I would change with the plan , with the cruiser trap at the start , instead of it just being a huge bomb I think it should be used to sneak a group of rebel commandos onto the ISD disguised as stormtroopers , engineers , ect , and have them place smaller explosives around the ISD , then meet up and try to take the ship's self destruct , the rest of the plan is more or less the same , but now the main boarding party is split into three groups instead of four , and being boarded and potentially dealing with a lot of damage across the ship the ISD could be more distracted and take longer to join the fight completely giving the rebels some valuable time to het out of range

Once a target ISD is identified infiltration is key. Defectors who have made themselves known to the rebels but have not abandoned their posts are crucial. Executed correctly, the rebels may even be able to acquire more than one. Loss of life can be kept at a minimum too. Get a defector(s) who works in personnel to assign other defectors to one or more ISDs in positions that would make it easy for them to disable the majority of an ISDs systems (bridge/aux b/eng). If additional defectors are available assign them to the escort ships assigned to the ISDs. The possibility now exists to "acquire" them too (the escort ships). These teams, properly places will be able to take the ships by creating an "emergency" that forces evacuation of the ship. Them they simply take it. Even if that wasn't a possibility the pre-deployment of defectors would give any assault fleet a huge advantage: shutting done wpns, engs, escort ships, etc. So now we have captured an ISD, what do we do with it? Use it in a manner to play off your enemy. If the will send dozens of ISDs after the stolen one use this to your advantage. The Battle of Endor had around 3-4 dozen large Imp ships depending on your sources and this was considered one of the largest gatherings of ISDs ever. That tells me and any other strategically minded fellow that, in an attempt to put a strangle hold on the galaxy the Empire had over extended itself and assigned its 25k IDS too thinly across their controlled space instead of mobilizing them in quick reaction/defense forces. Pulling even a few dozen ISDs away from their normal patrols leaves this areas open for exploitation by the Rebellion. The Rebels wouldn't use an ISD for direct combat (unless the engagement was severely in their favor and exposing any stolen ISD(s) was worth the risk of the objectives). Instead I see them just using them as bait to pull other Imp ships out of position for the Rebels to exploit.

If their spy network was large enough to accomplish this then maybe on a small scale this would work. The main portion you are forgetting is that once one, or more, of their battleships go missing they would have to be hidden for months while crews are trained and battle plans are drawn. You sound like you would immediately want to turn their guns on the rest of the enemy. This is a marathon not a sprint. Move to early and you risk loosing everything you have gained.

The first step for me would be to figure out where a Star Destroyer is most vulnerable. That would be while at a spacedock during refit or normal maintenance. The crew and Stormtrooper numbers would be at it's lowest. Also, Imperial arrogance would view this as an impossibility, which based on experience is an asset. To increase the odds, recruiting and flipping the captain or similar senior officer would boost the odds. One of the rebels strengths is base infiltration. Arranging for a quarter or a third of the maintenance team to be rebels would be neccessary.
@Wedgekree
@Wedgekree 7 лет назад
Remember still a Spacedock is going to hae massive defenses. Presuming it's not in a core system, it's still going to be at least two kilometers long (a Star Destroyer is 1.6), have thousands of personnel, defense emplacemetns, have multiple squadrons of TIES, probably a Golan Platform, and smal capital ships in the area. It's easier, but not a cakewalk either.

If you aren't going to deploy Home One anyway, why not reclass a captured ISD as Home Two? It's a huge mobile base with tons of room for starfighters, which as you stated are the Rebel's best form of offense. An ISD Home Two could be used very well for ranged hit and runs, using its main batteries to keep other scattered Imperial craft from retaking it, and occasionally itself providing a bombardment option against fortified raid targets. In the off chance that a capture attempt actually succeeded, there are definitely plausible applications for its use.

Nice idea, and great video as always! A couple of thing though, this strategy assumes that the ISD would tractor in the Gozanti-class, but what if they don't go for the bait? If I was commanding an ISD and came across an empty damaged ship, I would probably send a squad of troopers in a Lambda shuttle (or something) to check it out first. Now I know Imperial commanders aren't always portrayed as the strongest critical thinkers (especially in Rebels), but the captain would have to be really stupid to just scoop up an unknown vessel without any investigation. If they don't go for the bait I don't think this battle could be won. Also, if even one or two of the ISD's turbolaser batteries opened up on the GR-75's during their approach I don't think they would even make it close enough to deploy their troops. Just my 2 cents, looking forward to more videos!

For my strategy I would capture about 3 Gozanti transport ships, put as stormtrooper, officers and engineers dressed rebels in it and take down the ISD by "refreshing" parts of the old troops on board. Then I would slowly going to terminate some parts of the crew and replace them with rebel troops. But I will describe you my plan in detail. So let's start with the arrival of the "refreshments" at the main hangar bay. At first I would sabotage the long range transmitter so that the ISD cannot call for aid. Also I would take the tracking device down. Then I would concentrate on the 3 sections necessary to capture one ship. First would be the main engineering. I would replace the workers up to the point when 80 percent of the workers are rebels and then eliminate the rest. For the auxiliary bridge I would use the same tactic. The main bridge is a much harder part due to the presence of the commanding officer, maybe an admiral. Now I would use a different way. I would take an imperial shuttle with Kanen and Ezra disguised as prisoners to the commanding officer on the bridge, seal it and would kill the bridge crew with some rebel-stormtroopers and the help of the jedi. The final act would be to finish the last imperials on board of and take the ISD to rebel command. In my opinion it's the easiest way to capture an ISD by infiltrating the vehicle. And also I would like to know how to capture the Death Star. I know only the thought of that is insane but it would be nice to know.

I would say the raider corvette wouldn’t have a hanger even with its appearance in SWBII but I think a ship that belongs to a special forces group would have modifications, as for the light cruiser, they can carry like 3 fighters in the middle thing on the ship and the ISD could probably launch fighters through its secondary hanger

Here's a possible alternate plan as well, follow along the same plan with having a wreckage draw the ISD & its escorts towards its position. Than have as many fighters that you can muster jump in as close to all 3 ships as they can & hit all 3 with Ion Torpedoes. With their systems down & power down, they'd have no chance to call for help. Then jump in the rest of your fleet & while the fighters deal with any Ties that are deployed, have all your main ships concentrate fire on each escort. With power gone & engines down, they'd have now way to maneuver or defend themselves. Then get behind the ISD, infiltrate like you planned & then once the ship's systems come back online go with the same plan you had after the boarding parties captured all 3 key areas. I know you said you didn't want to use Ion Torpedoes, but depending on how fast the nearest Imperial Base would send out scouts to locate the missing ships, this plan could also work & possibly only cost some fighters.

Nevermind ISDs. Go capture some Venators. There's no way all of them got scrapped, and the ones who hold them are either local system lords allied to the Empire or rear eschalon units disfavored by the Admiralty. Either way, those are (a) easier to get than an ISD and (b) far better suited to the Rebellion's style of space warfare. Like Home One, a Rebel-held Venator is best used as a mobile operations base; not deployed to battle, but close to the objective location to easily make its fighters able to jump over and back with ease. It can do all that the Quasar-class can do, and it's got far superior firepower. When it must be deployed into the line of battle, it can do so competently, but (like the ISD) it needs ships to escort it to be used to best effect in a fleet action.

@chrismc410
@chrismc410 4 года назад
If one stole a Venrator it would need a lot of time and resources to make it spaceworthy, reinstall/reactivate the weapon systems, then to get the main reactor and fuel for same back online. Such time and resources are better used elsewhere. To take an ISD you'd have find a way to kill the crew near instantly, silently and in one fell swoop An ISD wouldn't require refitting make it spaceworthy, it already is weapon and defensive systems still online, main reactor fueled and online. Another way to capture an ISD is pulling a "Hunt for Red October" type scenario, ie: The captain and most of the senior officers defect and they get the crew off the ship in such a way that the crew doesn't even suspect a defection. You'd also have to weed out and eliminate any imperial intelligence agents and/or the imperial equivalent of a political officer, Emperor's Hands and the like. Such people will either report back to the Emperor and/Vader who in turn sent a small fleet to retake the ISD or destroy it if retaking the ship is not feasible or not possible

I really love this plan. It could come in handy if the rebels needed a bit disposable fire power or something they can trade in for a bigger target, or even for a defensive mission. Even if the SD doesn't fit into the rebels "normal" plans, it could really be good for something specific.

Ion torpedoes! Seriously, they have been shown to be excessively effective against an isd. Also, if you use them in the initial strike the ship would not, in theory, be able to call for help. That would leave the isd drifting while the insertion takes place. This means that the rebel ships could focus on taking out the other two imperial ships before the insertion teams even get to their targets. This gives the rebel ships the ability to focus their assault and pull off this mission with far fewer casualties than you propose.
@jrobilliard6499
@jrobilliard6499 3 года назад
Blasting an ISD with ion torpedoes would just disable it, and although the rebel alliance is basically magic, I don't think 180 commandos have the ability to un-disable a disabled star destroyer
@CRAZYUNCLE117
@CRAZYUNCLE117 3 года назад
@@jrobilliard6499 With just a little preparation it is easy. If you need a larger ship to give it 'a boost' just have it on stand-bye. Besides, half the ship would have spaced half of the crew sue to all the force fields coming down. This gives the insertion team an easier time. Plus if you jam communications when you first arrive you could have days to take the ship and get it running again. Like I said before, this is far easier than people want to admit.

Assuming Thrawn may be on it? If he is, the Rebels are absolutely *fucked.*
@erynncollier8672
@erynncollier8672 5 лет назад
@@BlueRaven893 The first question that would pass through Thrawn's head when he received the Gozanti's distress call would be, "What is the objective of those responsible for the vessel's reappearance?" It would be followed closely by, "They're obviously counting on a response to the ship's distress call, so whatever their plan is they're expecting to be springing an ambush. They're also unlikely to possess the firepower to confront an Imperial Star Destroyer head on, so an element of their plan no doubt involves an attempt to cripple this vessel. That Gozanti Cruiser is definitely the bait, but it could also be the vehicle for the attempt to disable this vessel." The thought process would likely then proceed further along the lines of "How could a Gozanti cruiser be used to disable an Imperial Star Destroyer? The only way it could cause any damage at all would be from within the main hangar, beneath the vessel's shields. Ah., They want me to take the vessel aboard. They're counting on chaos or damage caused in the main hangar to disable the ship's ability to launch and recover starfighters. This tells me that the enemy attack will be composed primarily of starfighters. This means that there is either an enemy carrier or fixed base somewhere very close to the Gozanti cruiser's location. In order for the rebels to arrive at the location in question within a reasonable time frame, the length of their hyperspace jump will be very short indeed. This narrows down their possible hiding places dramatically. They'll also need to have deployed a forward element either aboard or in a position to observe the Gozanti cruiser in order to contact their forces when the trap is to be sprung. The best position they could arrive in in order to engage my vessel would be below and behind it. This information provides me the likely approach vector of the rebel forces, further narrowing down their possible hiding places." Thrawn then consults his star charts. "I see there are no stellar bodies within that arc close enough for enemy forces to be stationed on. We're dealing with a carrier for sure then. In order to achieve victory in this engagement, I'll need to turn the situation around on the enemy and ambush their carrier, preferably with the Chimera. Since I already know where the enemy is likely to appear, I'll need to position the Chimera behind their formation while simultaneously convincing them that my Star Destroyer is already present and that it has just been disabled." Thrawn then turns to a junior officer and orders the launch of one or more probe droids to monitor comms traffic in the system. He then uses multiple intercepted transmissions to triangulate the rebel forward observer's position. The forward observer is then killed by Storm Commandos. The Gozanti is then quickly boarded and the bombs are disarmed. Thrawn then rigs one of his assault shuttles to use its tractor beam to catapult the Gozanti cruiser ahead at high speed. Thrawn positions an assault shuttle behind the Gozanti cruiser, using the vessel to hide its presence. He launches his entire complement of starfighters and positions the bombers on the flanks of the expected rebel arrival area. He positions the Chimera behind the expected rebel arrival position, and his two support ships smack in the middle of the expected arrival zone of the enemy fleet. The storm commandos then duplicate the alliance code observed by the probe droid(s) and or divulged by the alliance forward observer prior to execution, and send a message indicating that the Gozanti has been taken aboard the Star Destroyer. The rebel fleet jumps in and is immediately set upon by two corvettes smack in the middle of their formation causing absolute chaos and mowing down starfighters left and right They also cause a breakdown in rebel communication by employing full spectrum jamming to prevent the rebels from sending messages to each other. The Assault shuttle flings the Gozanti at one of the nebulon B cruisers while a droid on board keeps it on target via the use of maneuvering thrusters. The Gozanti then collides with the Nebulon B at high speed and detonates, the explosives the rebels had intended to use against Thrawn taking down one of their own ships instead. Half of the Tie Fighters then move in and engage the rebel starfighters, assisting in the wholesale slaughter of said rebel fighters at the hands of the corvettes. The tie bombers then sweep in from the flanks and disable the rebel ships' engines While the Chimera brings its big guns to bear from behind its fighter screen, assisting in disabling the rebel flotila. The Assault shuttle heads for the Quasar Class to begin a boarding action, while additional assault shuttles launch from the hangars of the Chimera to board and capture each rebel ship as it becomes disabled. The battle goes completely tits up for the rebellion because they can't communicate in order to respond to an unforseen ambush, while Thrawn's forces competently execute a known battle plan to near perfection.

The biggest issue I can see would be the lack of time from distress signals. If you know who they would likely contact, you could infiltrate the base and reroute the distress call, or just attack/raid the base at the same time you are attacking the star destroyer, and bog down any possible help the Imperials could hope to get. Also offer a few merc/bounty hunters the contract to help out in exchange for top gear and credits, and you can significantly improve the boarding team chances. If they have any B-wings, they can shred the cruiser escorts quickly, saving ships and cutting down on casualties. That’s all I got. Great video man!!!
