Cameron's answer to whether the story will impact canon is perfect. It really isn't about making Cal's story important to canon, but making it important to the fans. Not every story has to change the course of canon, but it should enrich the lore of the franchise.

That’s a perfect way of putting it! The same can be said with any mythos/lore. As long as the story you make is a whole and engaging experience then that’s what’s important. Not trying to tie everything in to the larger narrative or universe.

Not at all, kanan showed that out of luke and obi-wan, the jedi still are part of the galaxy and playing an important role, the orden is past but kanan was able to bring the teaching that he received and evolve with it through Ezra. Star wars rebels is one of the best stories in the universe without a doubt.
