The Force Awakens: a house party that tried so hard to please everyone that it was dull. The last Jedi: a house party that decided to loosen up A LOT but ends up burning the house down. The Rise of Skywalker: the same homeowners trying to lull you back to the next party.
1:02:06 Mark Hamill himself said the same. Luke would never go down the path the Last Jedi chose to go with Luke. What a Waste of potential, it's like they purposely wanted to destroy Luke in order to elevate Rey a the sole Jedi Master
Even if you could buy (hard to believe) that Luke contemplated killing Ben, there is no way you could buy him not trying to redeem Ben and instead just going hermit. I wish this movie didn’t exist.
My favorite scene in this movie is Chewy busting Luke’s door down. As “not the best” as this movie is, I still love these characters and am always willing to watch stories about them. I’d love to see a series about Luke after Return of the Jedi at the height of his power and training Leia. Even if it’s CGI only. That would be fun!
My biggest problem with these 3 movies is I'm 41 and I've read alot of the novels as well and all the authors worked off each other's ideas and told a great story with new characters one that actually made sense not going to throw any spoilers in for people who enjoy reading but had Disney followed that path these movies would have been great not 90% bullshit
Remember Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy lying to everyone's face when she claimed they had no source material to work with while developing the Sequel Trilogy films?
Plenty of people knew the plan...Holdo wasn't gassing up the transports herself. Blake, Han in the FIRST MOVIE says you can run into things in hyperspace.
Yeah but he whaled on Anakin a bit before he came to his senses. Luke actually came to his senses quicker when he dealt with Ben, unfortunately that's not how Ben saw it.
@@VelociraptourVery different situation. Ben was sleeping and just a learner. In any case Luke would not consider killing his nephew and not at all in his sleep
@@xDarthSTYXxSo I've been inhaling star wars since the 80's when i was a little kid. I don't need some rando to tell me what is SW and what is not. Been through too many comics, novels and video games and roleplaying games and of course the movies and tv. You are not impressing me.
There's Luke's point of view what happened with Ben, and then there's Ben's point of view. Remember how in episode 5 when Obi-Wan told Luke that understanding something depends on your point of view.
I thought a lot of their arguments were pretty lame. Luke has seen what the dark side can do, and when he had a glimpse of what Kylo might become, it was a chance to perhaps avoid creating another Darth Vader. Luke saw what it did to Obi-Wan, and there were plenty of chances for the Jedi to take Kylo out before he turned bad. I mean, Vader was his hero and motivation to "finish what (Vader) started."
@@B-a-t-m-a-n - Your view of things certain is possible and I accept it as a valid description of the situation. Though I view "The Last Jedi" and "The Rise of Skywalker" as adventurous films they have none of the way George Lukas tells his saga in the first six films, in my opinion.
TLJ was done in the can when Carrie died they didn’t have to reshoot or recut anything. Idiot’s wanted them to recut the movie to kill Leia off and deprive the fans of her final performance.
Leia "flying" in space should be the easiest thing anyone tuned with the force can do. It requires the smallest nudge to accelerate in any direction cause it's space with zero friction. Plus, a regular person can survive in space for a minute or two, let alone Leia, a force sensitive Skywalker. this movie is a masterpiece, the wrong is on those hating it; this Leia sequence is a perfect example.
That Leia space scene, I'll never forget sitting in the theater saying "no, no, please don't, I can't believe they just did that" as it happened. This movie was bizarre and long and dumb.
Best SW film in the entire saga. People will come around like they did Empire Strikes Back. This movie is a gem and deserves the 1.3bil it made in the box office. When Lucasfim disregard the fandom and tell the best story they have we get TLJ and Andor. When they bend to the fandom we get Rise of Skywalker. Sorry, but discussion after the film just proves that.
So I was bothered by Luke jumping to conclusions with Kylo as well. But if you think about it...Luke has the sacred texts of the Jedi, pretty much "the Bible" of the Jedi if you will. The downfall of the Jedi in the prequel series was cause of their religion that has holes in it and would say things like "once bad always bad." Maybe this religious influence made Luke think this way just like how religion can make religious people do things that they shouldn't (even if it's just ONE lapse in judgment)? And Yoda has to tell him pretty much "out with the old, in with the new" with those. Religion breaks families apart all the time too. Some may call that a stretch but as someone who came from a church...I can see and have seen this happen to once good people and over a short period of time (months even!), even when they think their intentions are the best.
I noticed confusion about Luke killing Ben. It made sense to me. He was probably seeing a vision of Ben killing Han, Luke’s best friend and one of the reasons the Empire fell. Luke did this before in Return of the Jedi when Vader threatened Leia, almost killing his father out of anger but stopped himself. He probably wanted to kill Ben because unlike himself Ben goes through with murdering Han.
You kind of wonder what a Jon Favreau and Dave 3 Story Script would have looked like if they had gotten these 3 movies And could worked with the legacy characters after seeing these movies and now seen The Mandalorian and Ahsoka tales
@Blake I feel like every time Rian Johnson had a choice he went with the one that will piss off the most people. Almost every stupid situation that happened have a less retarded alternative that is much cooler and most fans would love it. He said in an interview that he likes when his movies are finished so he had no regards to what comes after. This is exactly what happens when you have someone writing a story about Star Wars and knows nothing about the established lore, nor does he cares. Everyone is surprised that they were tracking them through hyperspace as if this isnt part of the SW canon since Empire Strikes Back or Attack of the Clones and lets not even mention the EU. I hate the forced humor with a burning passion so this movie didnt started out the best for me. I thought General Hux was a cool character in the previous movie but they reduced him to an idiot right at the beginning. For the bombers, yeah...TIE fighters or even turbolasers would shread them to pieces long before they have a chance. The whole concept is stupid, they have to be above their target in order to bomb it and unless you are a capital ship with strong shield you stand no chance with that speed slowboating around like that. Also erm...why do the bombs fall??? I didnt see propulsion on them. BTW if you think about it, the entire casino planet can be deleted and they are exactly at the same place. They have gained nothing with it. About the Throne room scene, watch it in slow-mo...it's pretty bad. Pretty much agree with everything you brought up. They murdered Luke's character and started on the rest of the new ones like Poe, Finn, etc... This movie is basically Rian Johnson shitting on SW as a whole including Force Awakens, so JJ in turn will be shitting on this one by retconning everything he could. Having different directors is not an issue in most cases as long as you have a plan for the trilogy, a competent writing team with the plot already written with an end and how to get there. They had neither of those, in fact RJ was given a free hand to do whatever with no regards to what comes next. I agree, this movie is trash but it is a beautifully shot trash. Maybe thats why it is the lowest rated SW movie on Rotten Tomatoes. and here is a clip for a lore accurate Holdo Maneuver! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7wJj0TLLPGI.html
I'm angry that the last scene in this film shows a boy with apparent Jedi powers, he uses the Force to pull the broom to his hand and then raises the broom stick like he has a light saber, but the writers didn't use him in the next film.
The Greatest piece of Star Wars media ever. Nothing will change my opinion. But I will admit Rose kissing Finn was dumb. Them have a romantic relationship is fine but to have it come out nowhere at the very end was very dumb.
@Luxray Over the years I learned how to deal with uglyness. I totally hate Rose' character f,ex. But she and her behaviour represent a certain type of people, in real life. Whoever decided to put this into the movie, is brave as hell. I will never like it. I will never like Rose. But I appreciate it. Movies used to do it. I can't tell if it was done purposely here, but, somehow, obviously someone knew what he's doing. I personally think these 3 movies came out a few years too early. I like every one, and they feel off
I disagree with the writing for Luke in this movie, but there are parallels to Luke in the past when you compare it to this. Luke gave in to his anger against Vader after being threatened with the death of his sister and friends. There was a very important moment in Return of the Jedi that I think actually surprisingly goes over many people's heads. Its perhaps the most important moment of Luke's life. Its when he is standing over Darth Vader after cutting off his hand. He sees its made of metal and wires. Luke looks at his own hand and sees how much of his father is really in him. He realizes he was about to go down the same path as Vader did. Its a fleeting moment. He then declares himself a Jedi and a man of peace. Luke, now, goes through the same process again. His concern over losing everything he loves and cares about causes him to act out in a way unbecoming of a Jedi master, and again, looks down at his hand, and, I believe, remembers the moment he stood over his father, but this time, its not something he can take back or overcome. I am not saying I agree with it, but I am saying that I can see a parallel of what I believe the writers were going for. I don't think its at all uncharacteristic of Luke Skywalker. I just don't think it was necessary for the character to go through this arc again when Vader's was perfect as is
On the hyperspace lane thing for Igli. When you enter into hyperspace you enter into a different “lane” in space, you technically dont travel faster in space. So there are lanes that travels at different speeds. Holdo cannot enter hyperspace in the same “space” as the First Order ship without entering another lane in space and end up in a different location.
The biggest problems for me with these last 3 movies is wasting the OG characters. It is kind of infuriating. IMO #7 should have been about the original main 3 introducing the new characters. Also I feel these movies WASTE some of the should be main bad characters. I do love how the movie looks and sounds. Incredible. How Luke was written in this movie is INFURIATING! What a waste of an ending for one of the most ICONIC characters in film history. Luke should have had a badass ending and F that seclusion story. I'd rather have seen him and Leia side by side. Also they could have developed Leia force abilities better. GRR.
There is literally real world science that a real human can survive in a space vacuum for up to 2 minutes. Leia was A. Put into a coma, B. Permanently weakened and ultimately died because of it and C. Shes the daughter of the Chosen One. Fuck you, Leia in space was brilliant.
There’s a 30 year time gap filled with EU. The man who saved his father from the biggest villain in the franchise gets scared because his nephew is having nightmares. There’s no justification for it - Blake
The Holdo Maneuver but Lore accurate. This not only made me laugh but this is seriously what should have happened ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7wJj0TLLPGI.html
Honestly I've blocked most of this movie from memory, beyond the wierd bond thing between Ren and Rey, cause I thought it was an interesting concept, but ah yeah.. oh! and the Rey & Ren vs Snoke fight was cool too Edit: and the 'Holdo Manover' will also be an amazing visual
All 3 of these new sequels are GARBAGE these are NOT Star Wars, the prequels the originals that’s where it should of ended phantom menace attack of the clones and attack of the sith and new hope empire strikes back and return of the Jedi and that’s where these franchise ENDS.
@@RaggedyPack Looper, Brick, and Knives Out. Watch all three. He also directed Ozymandias which is the best episode in Breaking Bad. You can hate TLJ and that’s fine but cmon man he’s an actual good director. If you want to hate anyone, hate Disney for choosing to resurrect this franchise with 0 plan.
Rose Tico with her potato sack jumpsuit and childlike bangs, the look of psychopathic determination etched on her chubby face, selfishly sabotaging Finn's moment of true heroism by intentionally crashing her speeder into his just so she can first plant an unwanted kiss on the lips of a man with whom she has ZERO romantic chemistry, and then utter the immortal inspiring line of dialogue about ultimately winning by "saving what we love," has got to be the high point of the entire Star Wars saga - - LOL!
Bloke is clueless. Carrie Fisher passed away AFTER the film was released. I feel sorry for the guy. He has no idea what he sounds like. I don’t want this reaction to be a dog pile, or something like that. Too late. You ruined it before the opening credits. The very low number of views should be an Awakening. But, of course, it’s not. I really enjoyed watching him suffer in silence during the entire film. BTW, did you notice that Luke Skywalker gave Rey a major assist lifting the boulders? She initially focused on one boulder, but suddenly they all lifted up. Look at the look of surprise on her face. This is confirmed in the novelization.
I was fine with the way the story went. I was 6 when ANH hit theaters. Had all the toys. If anyone was a stakeholder in the story. It was me. If I can fine with it you can too. Sorry your millenial minds can't deal.
Did you ever bother to read any of the Expanded Universe novels and comics? There was already a decades-long, respectful, well-thought-out, and well-established continuation of the Star Wars saga that Disney in their arrogance and foolishness arbitrarily decided to throw in the trash compactor in favor of these trashy and ill-conceived Sequel Trilogy films. Maybe you can passively accept this dubious state of affairs, but a lot of us long-time fans will NEVER accept the Sequel Trilogy films as true canon no matter what Disney may decree.
I think that's the problem, the novels. I hear that every time. Disney made Pirates of the Carribbean, no one complained @originalPost that made me laugh. Think you're right, but also, the movies lack a bit of.. density. And now that everyone is an expert in the internet. Things come together. I think the movies are a little too real for some. It's the same with Matrix 4. People are not ready for this shift, and that's why these scenes are needed, with all their ugliness. Many scenes in these 3 movies have so much power, in both good and bad ways, they take place in real life. I personally don't use the terms pre- and sequel in my language. And btw, I've read some novels
I agree with Blake that I really really enjoy what they did with Ben and Ray in this movie. I did when it came out. And I still do. I'll bash a lot of things about the sequels. But that's not one of them. Somes you just need.. you need to be able to take a step back. You need a person who you can just talk to. Someone you can trust (eventually) someone more neutral. And that was Rey for Ben. And I do think it really changed things for him. Even if he went right back to it. And seeing Luke's overreaction to them talking and touching hands.. I also agreed during the scene in the throne room that they treated him like the master. And rey was was much of a threat. Also 100% agree with all of your takes on how they butchered Luke. It makes me so angry. Basically I agree with Blake in everything 😂 all the things he hates. And I agree that the movie has good things. Like I said above. Plus some of the things they mentioned.
@@RaggedyPack yeahhhhh saaameeee. If just the Kylo/Rey building could exist. Maybe attached to another movie. And just.. the rest of it in the garbage.
You guys all said the movie was beautifully shot, with some exciting space battles, great special effects, and sound design. STOP. DONE. There's a Star Wars movie for you. What were you expecting, The Godfather? Maybe the more you know the E.U. the more you dislike the last trilogy. You know stuff that the casual fan doesn't know. I don't think these movies were made keeping much of that in mind. But also, some of the complaints you guys had were kinda lame, for example, Leia's little space walk. Before the explosion, what I think happened is that the Lady Vader closed her eyes and created a Force bubble around her that protected her enough to survive the blast and get herself back to the ship. Pulling herself back to the ship using the Force doesn't sound like it's outside of the range of her Force abilities. Is it canon? I don't know. I don't care, either. I'll just use my own imagination to fill in the gaps. I think that's what we're supposed to do. I'd hate it if everything had to be spelled out for me.
If they wanted her to survive they could've done it a less confusing way. If they wanted to give her a hero moment they could've done so much better and most people would've loved it. To me this movie feels like they always went with the choice that will upset the most people as if they were trying to piss people off on purpose. IDK its just weird.
@@B-a-t-m-a-n mate idk but I dont get paid tens of millions to write movie scripts. Not sure if you have seen Rebels, but there was a scene there when a Jedi held up the force of an explosion with the Force kind of like a shield. It only works for a short time but it would've given the bridge crew and herself a few seconds to evacuate the room and close the blast doors. She would've had her badass moment which would have been looked much cooler and less like someting out of Mary Poppins. An added benefit of this is maybe Admiral Ackbar would also survive so there would be no need to kill him off screen. A Force barrier is an established part of SW lore for a very long time at this point so it would not even break canon.
@@neutchain7838 I think I remember that scene. Yeah, they could have come up with something like that, but undoubtedly, some would complain that Leia was incapable of such feats. And I have to ask if you were floating towards something, what posture would you have? Maybe she should have back-stroked to the ship? Or more like Superman? It's a silly detail and not even a good comparison since Mary Poppins carries an umbrella and flies upright. Bottom line, I choose to enjoy the movies, they are what they are.
I mean they were going for Leia being a badass anyway so might as well make her really strong with the Force, I think it would've been less ridicoulus than what they went for. The whole thing was fucked up from the beginning. A good comprehensive story was way down on their list. I mean who makes a trilogy without a plan, and give full free hand in writing to the guy who directs the second movie? There should've been a team of writers who comes up with the story and characters then you bring in directors to make the movies. I was so excited about them and I really wish they were 10/10 every single one of them but sadly they are kinda med or worse and that really makes me sad.
G'day it's Steven from down under again Well, what can I say?...meh Star Wars is in my DNA, it has been since 1977, and when episode vii was released i thought, okay, we're heading in the right direction, this feels like Star Wars, lets see where Disney takes us...then this abomination was released, i was completely polarised. It was an acceptable sci-fi film, it was entertaining but it was "not" Star Wars, i have so many issues with this movie including that ridiculous and very long scene on a casino planet-thiiing-place, but most of all they disrespected Luke Skywalker, i was shocked and appalled. Meh, double meh, and I'll refrain from using profanities.
The Last Jedi is a pretty movie.... Anyway, it's so great to see Igli go through this Star Wars journey and becoming so versed in the characters and world. This commentary was really entertaining and all the roasts you had for it were so valid and funny. Everything you all pointed out I found myself nodding along, like yes! you see the lack of logic too lol it was nice to see the grace you gave the cast, I really appreciate that you look into extra info past the film for context, I didn't know the Laura Dern detail and feel even worse for her now. If they had been given a well crafted script I honestly believe that Carrie Fisher could have got a posthumous Oscar, it might seem far fetched but if the script had even just matched the quality of the visuals it could have happened. and I appreciate the reference to WW2 bc that's my issue with the themes (and the logistics too) there is no cohesion in the message of this movie, it's like a parody of real world references & idk it kind of feels to me like if the sith could make a soulless faux-inspirational film in a post rebellion world to make money off the people they oppress... which is interesting bc it's Disney that made this... another great reaction, looking forward to the next one ❤
i like and dislike all kinds of movies I HATE the sequel's so much they go against everything which makes star wars star wars. the writing is so bad they have the story go one way and then just turn it right around to make a scene look good. 7 is a remake of the first one with the added parts of characters which come out of nowhere with skills no one had before and no story behind them. 8 is a movie made to destroy the main character of the whole of star wars because they think this is what they thing is good for star wars again with bad writing and so many plot holes. then they totally destroy star wars completely with the return of the main villain which destroys everything 6 the return of the jedi stands for and along with this they try to give the FANS everything they are asking for and it does this in a bad way by trying to complete this all in a very short time. R.I.P Kerry Fisher R.I.P star wars
Never seen the Movie EVER, EVER! watched right now your reactions and lasted 8:56 Eww yuck like wtf the acting is poor horrible! hard it was bad never seen it, thank GOD
Well … I’m surprised I also agree it is better than I remember. I also have only seen this movie one time in theater. Good reactions as always. I’m going to end there . 👀😂❤ 🦬☮️
