Star Wars: Out of the Shadows Book Review - How the Jedi Order Begins to Fall 

Hyped as hell for this book, The Rising Storm is one of the best Star Wars books I’ve ever read. Gonna start this right after my exams end.

Only a chapter in and I'm already liking Vernestra. I didn't read her book since it's middle grade but I might have to pick it up. I'm loving how the characters are transitioning between different formats. I'm also intrigued by the idea that these young characters will fully grow up. I'd love it if the Adult novel series ends like 10 years after Light of the Jedi and Vernestra and Reath are now experienced Jedi Knights.

Just a heads up, this audiobook doesn’t have all the sound effects and music that the others do. I was able to get used to it after the first chapter. Overall it was a pretty good book, I actually went back to listen to a Test of Courage right before this and they flowed really nicely.

Vernestra is my favorite character in the High Republic. She's so interesting and her dynamic with Imri is so good. We've never seen this kind of Master/Apprentice relationship where they're jus two years apart from another. It really offers dilemmas on how they can function. Yet, Vernestra seems to have a older sister familiarity with Imri, yet a parental instinct to keep him safe after what happened in Test of Courage. I'm catching up and can't wait to read the rest of these books. Especially the one centered on Vern finding time to finally train Imri more. I feel Vernestra is what Ahsoka might've been had she not walked away from the order.

Vernestra Rwoh is my favorite Jedi currently of The High Republic and I liked A Test of Courage way more than I thought I would so I'm all over this one.

I too thought the high republic was a waste of time but then I soon read some of the books and it was quite interesting. Maybe they will bring something big at the end of the era

Hey I have a request for a video, or could even be a short series: Video(s) that do quick introductions to all the high republic’s key players. Kinda like you did for alphabet squadron a while back. I know they’ve done some over on the official SW channel, but would be awesome and very helpful to have a list made of multiple characters in the same vid. Could even split it up by book or by faction (do one on just the Jedi, one on nihil, one on civilians and politicians). Any of them that have visual representations in official art and such, and if there are others that seem key but don’t have art maybe a bit about what the book says they look like and how they relate to the other characters. I am a very visual thinker and horrible with names when I can’t match them to faces. I really loved that video you made for alphabet squadron (I watched it when I was like 1/3 through the second book) and it really helped me stop struggling to keep everyone straight and also visualize the scenes better. Finally finished. I liked this novel. Vernestra is my favorite Jedi and I love how pivotal she seems to be for the future of the High Republic. I wish we got a couple more scenes with Nan and maybe more scenes with her and Reath. Justina Ireland is one of my favorite Star Wars writers.

I must say the 2nd wave of the 1st phase is coming in strong. I'm so enjoying how everything is now connecting if your reading the books and comics. There is something about this author in particular I love she brings the characters to life the most to me. And the pacing for her stories flow so much better than any of the other authors for me. I loved out of the shadows and what nice small suprices they put in the book as long as some big intriguing plot points. I didn't want this book to end im so ready to read more of Verns adventures with Imri.

I haven't finished The Rising Storm yet. I guess I'd better hurry

Glad to see Reath Silas again I loved him in Into the Dark and he is great here although I wish we had more time with him. Xylan Graf was an unexpected joy and can't wait to see him again. My few negatives were that I really didn't care for Sylvestri Yarrow and Jordanna their romance wasn't interesting to me. Also the reunion between Reath and Nan was disappointing to say the least it should have been a few pages longer. All in all a pretty enjoyable book with a few missteps.

I'm so excited to see the aftermath of rising storm.

For all the other star wars books on audible there's always sound effects, amazing voice acting, they add voice modulators for droids, changes in characters voices when they're wearing helmets or not, white noise in the background, music, it's all amazing! But for some reason out of the shadows has NONE of that. It's just one lady reading it in a fairly monotone voice the whole time. Its really really disappointing since I know how good it could be. I don't know why the change, but I hope its a fluke for this book

I'm very excited for this book because Vernestra, Imri and Reath are my favorite characters and they all are in the same book. Pretty cool.

again Alex thinks the YA is meh while I consider them the best book of the wave XD

I'll definitely be using that free credit with Tempest Runner since I have never listened to an audio book before

Reading a test of courage was totally worth it for me because of vernestra. Such a great relatable character and I'm really excited to see where her story goes in this book if nothing else as we only really got teases of her in rising storm. But then you tell me we start seeing small changes in the Jedi that could lead to the dogmatic prequel Jedi? Sign me up! I'm honestly ready for a slower book after the thriller we got

Loved this book. For wave 2 of phase 1, it was my 2nd favorite story. I do rank wave 1 a little ahead of wave 2, but wave 2 has been excellent. Can't wait for wave 3!

"Before the Awakening" doesn't have an audiobook, though. You'd THINK it has one, but it doesn't.

Woooo, got it almost two weeks early and I looooved it, been dyyyyying to talk about it! Glad it's finally coming out!

It's not out for another week in the UK but I am really excited to see more from these characters.

I loved this book, just finished it today!! Felt that Reath was a bit wasted and I wouldn’t really have noticed if he wasn’t there, really enjoyed Syal and Vernestra/Imri

No production on this audio book unfortunately, no music and sound effects throughout the book. Also, not much effort on voices either.

Haven't finished Wave 1 yet, so I'm looking forward to going through all of these soon! Keeping up with War of the Bounty Hunters though! Wow!

I've got the out of the shadows Audiobook and ive listed to maybe 4 or 5 chapters and it's pretty good

Can’t wait to see these characters grow develop and change, hopefully for the better

Just finished this as an audio book… I found it weird that the voice actor mispronounced Nihil, Marchion, and like a handful of other names that have on,y been read in one way before this. Was that an oversight? Because they usually seem so on it about uniform pronunciation in the audio books from the new canon.

i got about 2 hours in and had to return the audiobook. The reader is very flat in her delivery and without the sound effects, music, and other enhancements, it's getting increasingly harder to follow what's going on. Also, I don't want disney/star wars to start a trend of NOT having the same quality standards, and thinking that's ok. the story itself seems fine, and i hope they rectify this audiobook performance so i can read it sometime. note: i don't think the reader was bad, but she was easily the worst star wars audiobook reader i've ever heard. most are like 9/10 or 10/10, she was a solid 6/10, which isn't BAD, just way below the standards set by other readers

This book was so good!!

Sadly this audiobook isn’t as good as the some of the other Star Wars audiobooks which have way more production value (sounds, music, background noise throughout) than this one and the other narrators put in more effort for different characters unlike this one. Still not bad.

I would definitely rank this book as fine to read, but get it from your library

I dunno, I found both syl and vernestra to be remarkably unpleasant in their own special ways. Syl's open, unreasonable distrust of anyone with more money than her, vernestra's insistence on keeping secrets for no good reason. I wound up feeling more frustrated with these characters than anything until I wound up just putting the book down about halfway through it, reading the wookiepedia article, and moving on.

Audiobook for this is quite disappointing to say the least. No sound effects or music. Worst i’ve ever listened to for Star Wars.
