Love that you don't spend ages doing a rules explanation, just straight to the thoughts. This would definitely be classed as illegal cargo if I tried to get it in the house... need a smuggling compartment.

Best rules and review channel on RU-vid. No slant intended to others, but this guy nails it consistently.

THE best review of this game that I've ever watched. The rhythm is accurate, the camera angles are very helpful, the explanation is so clear, and also... As the euro gamer that you are - your love for this thematic game which involves dice is quite surprising. Thanks a lot for this video!

Thanks for another great video! I got to play a few turns of this game and really enjoyed what I saw; going to pick it up this weekend.

Nice video. Sounds like Star Wars Outer Rim is a re-skinned Firefly board game. I really like the Firefly game:)

Thanks for the review. Evidence ( if it was ever needed ) that you treat each game on merit.

Paul Grogan looks like he made the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs without a helmet.

Thank you. This was very helpful in my decision-making as to a Christmas present for my pastor's family. They are Star Wars nuts.

Three years, and nobody has commented that Paul is wearing a Star Trek t-shirt during a Star Wars review. LOL.

I originally had minimal interest in this game...despite my love of Star Wars, but after this review, I'm probably going to get it. Your game preferences seem to match mine pretty closely (minimal or at least peaceful player interaction) and seeing your excitement (as well as objective views of the game mechanics) changed my mind. Of course, I'm hitting other reviews too.

Cool. One word of warning though. Whilst I still really like the game, on reflection, I probably didn't say that it is a bit more random than I would normally like. You can get lucky and find the person you have a bounty on at the very next planet for example. And the dice. But overall, I still really enjoy the game.

@@GamingRulesVideos I don't mind random so much; in fact I typically feel it's essential or people can use the same strategy over and over again--again, typically--but thanks :)

Great review per usual Paul! I am getting this to the table this weekend and am excited to play it. I will probably get in a solo play before then to sort of familiarize myself a bit with the mechanisms.

Purely taking a guess, I would say the reason for no app integration was to keep the MSRP down a bit. I think with an app attached to this game, you would've seen a price closer to the $80 USD range of some of the other Star Wars titles. I'm fine with no app and a lower price on this one. Side not - looking forward to playing my first solo game of this tonight.

Great review, thanks. Not making it any easier to resist buying it! :D I almost picked it up early at the UK Games Expo, but my wife and I bought Gloomhaven, so it had to wait! My two minor concerns about Outer Rim are: 1) Story elements might quickly get repetitive once you have experienced them - until FFG release inevitable expansions. 2) The player boards at the Games Expo were quite damaged from the fame marker peg being moved about. Will they last beyond half a dozen games?

The "not enough cards" thing is being talked about a lot. The "story" elements aren't really much story, For example, you get a job to do X - sure, the first time you read it, you read the flavour text. Maybe even the second time, but not the third. But... the flavour text is just that, you still have to make the checks - the resolution of the card is still the same, so I think replayability is still pretty good. There are some people out there saying they have seen all the cards in 2 plays (I've seen less than half the cards in 3 plays). However, some people are saying that once you've seen all the cards, it's boring. This is weird. I've played Caylus 300 times and it is the same buildings every game and I've had no problem with replayability of that :)

Thanks for your thoughts. Well, in that case I guess it will be similar to Dead of Winter's replayability. There you soon remember items in the item decks and some commonly occurring crossroads cards. Perhaps similar with Outer Rim's planet cards and encounter cards. But from time to time you'll bump into something new, depending on how the shuffle turned out. If the game is still mechanically fun once the novelty & 'story' aspect fades, I think it will be plenty replayable :)

How am I supposed to know what the defense value of a bounty is? I look on the bounty card and it just shows the attack number in red but no defense number in yellow. How am I supposed to know how many hits I need to defeat them?

Feathers McGraw is always up to no good. And yeah, I thought I would wear a Star Trek t-shirt for a Star Wars video and see who notices.

Personally, I am happy they used cards instead of an app. Required apps in games are a turn-off for me; I don't want EVERY game to have a required app just to eliminate a handful of cards.
