“Kay is not a Skywalker or even a Jedi. She is just a nobody” (paraphrasing your review) Like you, this is exactly what got me excited about it. I can’t wait to start playing tomorrow. Thanks for the review!
Yeah she's simpl yjus ta young female Han Solo type character just trying to make ends meet a tleas tthat' how I'm interpreting the story and from what I've seen of the trailers and options you get it looks pretty open as to how yo uwant to deal with that.
I had heard bad reviews before seeing your video. I'm a lifelong Star Wars fan, I saw the original movie in theaters in '77 BEFORE it was A New Hope. But now, when I can afford it, I'll get some version of this. Before seeing your review, I was very interested in this game; I followed the development news, and watched the prerelease trailers, but the reviews were a bit unkind. Your review has given me, well, a new hope that I'll enjoy this game. Thanks. Oh, and learning that you're a disabled gamer that uses foot pedals just blew me away. You're immediately a better gamer than I am, and you maintain a RU-vid channel. And I'm not disabled. You've already achieved more in life than I have. I bow to your awesomeness, your perseverance, and ambition. Please keep doing what you're doing. You're awesome. *raises glass in salute*
I feel you so hard about the falling-out-of-love, but Mando and Andor brought me back for this universe and I still might check this one out! Thanks for the review!
MrMattyPlays called out the forced stealth as well, and it sounds like it would really piss me off. I don't like having to do "perfect" missions. If you fail stealth, it should be optional, like Cyberpunk. Often, I will reload a stealth section in CP if I fail it, just for the challenge, but sometimes it's just too hard/feels unfair, and I like to fall back on just shooting my way out. I NEED incremental save, that was the thing I hated most about Dark Souls. I'll probably pick this up on discount in a few months.
I'm a disabled gamer as well. Can be a little rough for sure also thanks for the review. I wasn't sure if I should get it or not but I trust your reviews.
Got a ubisoft+ subscription and will play it through that. :) If you like star wars with a mass effect touch: Play the old Knights of the Old Republic Games. Was basically the blueprint for mass effect.
I love Star Wars, have loved it all my life, and I’m really looking forward to this game. I’ve always wanted a game that lets us explore the criminal underworld of the Galaxy like this.
I think what you said in the beginning about Star Wars feeling stagnate rings true for me. Sometimes its okay to move to something else. Because when you come back it feels like a surprise on how good it is. Which is seems to be true with Outlaws. It feels exciting! I also like how you handled it. You simply left the franchise instead of getting bitter about it. That is a very healthy attitude. Additional I want to add that I love what you say in the end about how sometimes its okay for a game to be good. Not every game has to ve revolutionary. Sometimes being good is enough.
Being saying this for ages. If every game was a masterpiece, there’d be no masterpieces. I’ve just done cyberpunk for the first time and it was the best game I’ve ever played. I don’t think outlaws will match that. But I’m pretty sure I’ll have fun playing it. And that’s what matters 🤷♂️ fun. I’d hate to be one of these gamers stuck in the doom scroll nightmare where everything is awful
@@JamieMacDougall well my thoughts are more that you can't manufacture a masterpiece and what is considered a masterpiece is different for everyone. What games, and media broadly, should strive for is being good and trying to achieve their goals.
Was so excited when I saw that you had a review, Kala. Thank you! First things first: I can’t WAIT to meet Nix. Please tell me Nix is unkillable! Outlaws sounds fun overall, definitely looking forward to playing. I admit that while I enjoy stealth as part of a strategy, the forced aspect and inability to save mid-mission (or to back out of the mission area and save, something I do a lot in Odyssey) is gonna be a challenge. I too save constantly in games to not only literally save my butt, but also try different approaches in an RPG. But overall this looks like a good time.
Thanks for this review. I am more invested in the storylines than the combat. I do love combat but I suck at it for many reasons. I am an avid SW fan, been since it came out back in 1977. But I would also get frustrated with that not saving during a mission. I hate having to start over again. I am not that good at games, and at 63yrs old, between my arthritis and shaking hands to my brain just slow to react to things, I hated using keyboards. So found a really good keypad that has been a game changer for me. But like you I would definitely have some rage moments (raged quit MELE 2x before my stubbornness made me go back lol) with those 'perfect' type missions. I will wait to see if I will get it, but atm, there are too many games coming out, or DLCs etc.
I feel the same about the Star Wars universe. I used to really enjoy it, but it just got boring and repetitive, that is why I got excited when I heard about Outlaws. It was just tiring playing as a Jedi or Sith over and over again. I believe a lot of the negative reviews stem from the fact that people are so used to playing as some overpowered Jedi/Sith in Star Wars games, that they just don't know how to react to a Star Wars game without that power. I personally like playing a game every once in awhile where the main character feels like a normal person, with real struggles and no power. It's almost like how a lot of Tomb Raider fans reacted to the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy (2013-2018), they were not used to playing as Lara Croft as an unexperienced adventurer so they automatically disliked the game without actually understanding it or trying to enjoy it. I personally loved the reboots and think they are a core part of understanding how Lara got her start. So for those people who dislike this game, maybe they can go into it thinking of it as an origin story for a smuggler just getting her footing in the world and will one day become that unstoppable force that a lot of Star Wars protagonists become.
wow you play with your feet . now i know how people feel when they are shocked i can only play with one hand . after 40 years of gameing the only problem i still have is when in an intense battle happens and the button mashing starts my map or options screen pops up a lot and gets me killed because one of my fingers is across the pad hitting a button and the middle of my finger keeps touching the select button lol
Yeah I hav ethat problem too I onl ypla ywith one hand and yeah it can be tough during moer intense moments in games. I ge tthat sometimes when playing Mass Effect and other games. I do plan on picking Outlaws up bu twith games like DA Veilguard fast approaching I' mgoin gt owait till the price comes down a bit.
Really enjoy this review and hearing your thoughts on the game. Some great points. How was the performance of the game for you? Did you play it on PC or console? Sadly I didn't manage to get a review code for the game, but still planning to buy it on Friday and play the game. Really looking forward to it. I'm still gonna do a review, even if it's a week or 2 late 😊
Good review. I had already decided to wait on this based on buying on day one for previous ubisoft and star wars gaming experiences, but your review helped reinforce that decision. So thanks! If you love the every man stories from Star Wars then Andor is your show. Not a jedi to be seen, only cameos are deep cuts, the only carry over characters from previous shows and movies were side characters, and the show is just really well made.
The Old Republic MMO is quite good if you ignore the MMO part, there are 16 really good to pretty good stories available to play. They kind of end at 50ish, with the rest being more railroaded, and the latter expansions really tailored to force users. But try the game, I think there is free to play, and try the class quests and planetary quests chains up to 50ish, you will know when you end.
The forced stealth sounds like quite a big oof in the year 2024. Stealth should only be used to thin out the numbers before said stealth inevitably goes tits up and you have to fight your way out. I get something something "immersion"/"creative vision" but from a quality of life gameplay standpoint failing stealth should only result in having a tough fight on your hands and perhaps missing out on a negligible amount of mission rewards. That said I most everything else about this game seems relevant to my interests so I went ahead and got it. Certainly there has to be some sort of gameplay/accessibility options to at least make the stealth bits less annoying.
I didn't have this game on my list before but ur review makes me really curious about it. The saving and forced stealth has me a bit worried (although I like stealth missions) but the world and story sounds right up my lane 👀 (Also I saw from several people that the review deadline was very short so I don't think u were the only one feeling like that😅)
If you're okay with MMORPGs, I'd highly recommend trying Star Wars The Old Republic, and playing a Smuggler... for the make your own character and open world aspects
The people who say "star wars is nothing without lightsabers" just don't get star wars and are the target audience of Disney, just jingling keys at this point. Glad this game is about a scoundrel
I fell out of love with Star Wars the moment I finally decided to try out watching Star Trek TNG for the first time and realized I like that waaaayyyy better than Star Wars. (...Probably because Mass Effect was the first big Sci-fi "space opera" I ever really became a big fan of and Star Trek has a shit ton more in common with Mass Effect than Star Wars does.) EDIT: although that being said, I should point out that if there is any part of the Star Wars franchise I could ever possibly still be interested in, it's the video games. I've actually played quite a few Star Wars games video games and I liked most of them quite a bit.)
@@MatthewcmielYeah, Mass Effect has even more in common with Babylon 5 in my opinion. Great recommendation for people interested in all the different inspirations.
I'll say this review told me a lot more than the negative ones I heard earlier. I had a plan on playing this week, but we'll see how money is. Good job
Will admit, what put me off the game was the gameplay showcased, and even more now with all the reviews out confirming all of our fears. What I do like about it is the themes that the game tries to explore. Kay as a protagonist doesn’t quite attract me, though. So for those who like the game, good for you all! We’ll likely see this game as the showcase of lacking quality and the opposite of what Jedi Survivor was, as far as Star Wars games go.
Thanks for this one! I’ve heavily debated on it if I’m being honest, and this one may be a wait, especially as my time gets more filled with school stuff and Veilguard eventually. But I do think it’s one I’ll pick up eventually!
Watched about 14 hours of gameplay from different twitchers,, i was thinking about getting it , but when i saw the frustrating gameplay during " forced stealth missions" and the lack of saving options i really really hate that..on top of that as you mention .. the lack of a minimap....... so it became a big NO from me
My favorite part of Star Wars has always been the non-Jedi story. The Rebellion vs the Empire in particular. So I am interested in this game. I wish the game had a character creator though, like Mass effect style. I dont need to change the voice, but I would like to make minor tweaks to the look. Im surprised to hear its not a gun's blazing game. That actually is kind of interesting to me now.
Since you like Dragon Age and Star Wars (and haven't mentioned anywhere on the vídeo) I was going to suggest playing KOTOR. My favorite star wars game and that BioWare flavor fits great (if you already know about this and haven't played due to lack of accessibility options please ignore this comment)
With your love of BioWare games, have you played Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic? Kotor was the game that truly made me love Star Wars. Creating your own character and meeting awesome companions while exploring the Star Wars universe. Kotor had some of BioWares deepest roleplaying options. I hope the remake eventually releases and is good, but i still have a blast replaying the original two Kotor games with some mods to make them not feel as old as they are. Outlaws looks like fun. I haven't been a fan of Ubisofts open world design, but I plan to eventually get this game. All of my focus is on Dragon Age right now. Replays in preparation for Veilguard.
@@landonewts Yes, absolutely. Kotor is still in my top 5 favorite games of all time and I still replay it every few years. The combat is similar to Dragon Age Origins. It's dated and based around an invisible D20 system. Real-time action that you can pause for more tactical gameplay. The combat will take a while to get used to, but it's worth it for the story, the companions you'll meet, and the worlds you'll explore. I don't know if or when this Kotor remake will ever come out, but the original game is definitely still worth playing. You can get it on Steam, Console, or even on Mobile phones/tablets. The best experience would be on PC with a few texture & graphic mods.
@@kalaelizabeth I really hope the team at Saber Interactive is hard at work with the KOTOR remake and that we'll get some news soon. I was so excited when I saw the teaser for the remake back in 2021. I wish them the best in developing a masterpiece like KOTOR.
If Kay somehow ended up being a Skywalker, I would actually lose my mind. Been losing it over the many Disney made media in Star Wars for quite awhile but this would be on a-whole-‘nother level of insanity. Also somewhat in agreement of your perspective of liking nobody characters that aren’t Jedi/Force users, I’m mainly a fan of the Clones or troopers in general with the Star Wars Universe, so I’d like to see more game perspectives from those kind of characters
I dont like how shes basically a hero even though the game is supposed to be a morally grey criminal. I mean, we saw Han Solo cheat his boss and shoot a guy in his first few minutes of screen time.
This game is like ubisofts Andromeda however the saving grace is the story and the way side quests work. If you don’t mind bugs and terrible facial animations the game is pretty cool so i think after one or two patches the ai will be better however the facial animations are perm so if thats a deal breaker for you there you go. My wildly less generous review 😂
This is not Ubisoft's best work where it comes to character models. Lookup Ubisoft Cleopatra. This game is Assassin's Creed Origins. It uses my favorite game engine, for it allows you to climb anywhere. There's no need for those ugly yellow climb points. From a technical perspective, it has the best asset management system. Dead bodies don't vanish so additional assets can be introduced to the scene. You can also pickup and move the dead bodies so others can't see them. The game engine has many other features that is not graphics related that make doing things in their world enjoyable, in particular, parkour.
I was thinking the same thing, only about AC odyssey. It’s an older game, but the facial animations and character models are great, and you can go anywhere. (And the stealth in ACO isn’t mandatory - if things go south during stealth, you can usually fight your way out.) I’m not necessarily bothered by the look of Outlaws, it’s just different.
Great reviwe Kala. I've not played the game but I do feel like it's a game I'd like to give a shot as it looks fun and Kay and Nix look good together almost like the Han Solo/Chewbacca partnreship. Like you I'm concerned with the price point as whilst I hink I'd like the game and it's a game I think I'd want the DLC's for as well hence the reason why I'm choosing to wait for now. I'm hoping atm that if I can wait for the Black Friday sales I can pick this game up cheaper maybe for Christmas. As I'm gearing up for Dragon Age Veilguard and FC25 atm so right now those 2 games are my main focus
I am cautiously optimistic, as I am pretty much over anything to do with the "new" Star Wars movies, TV shows, or "lore"..thanks to Disney-Lucasfilm (IMHO). That said...all Ubisoft-ness aside, I "may" buy and play this game, once all of the post-launch reviews are in. Thanks for this review and for your honesty, as always. 😉
Honestly, hope the full game shows Jedi side characters. You can actually play the young cinematics of Kay, Kinda like it dead and Jedi fallen order, there needs to be more syndicate, better combat, she should be able to use more than just the pistol. Hopefully the story is longer and reworked better. This game can live up to Jedi series and red dead if you fix it right. Subscribed because I think your channel is just interesting.
Not much of a SW fan but this peaked my interest. Outlaws is a stealth game? dammit lol. CP2077 mention, it's buildings would have massive shortcuts to finish side quests in 30 seconds knowing where to enter and exit. It's worlds topography was so well designed. I save ALL the time too. my pkmn silver game as a kid, saving didn't always take. So save repeatedly of habit still to this day 😅 My saving habit so bad for BG3 the fact can save during dialogue choices and dice rolls, omg so many reloads 😅 I'd have the same issues with Outlaws, so most likely won't like it myself. Shame cuz a lot of looks so good to me. Excellent review, very clear in what worked, want didn't, what you liked and didn't like, even recommending it's strong points to others that might like those aspects of it more ✨️
