RIP Kanan. He represented the very best of what a Jedi can be. He wasnt the strongest, most intuned or the most skilled Jedi, but at his core he followed the will of the force and despite all the pain he had suffered through out his life, he never strayed from the light and always tried to make the galaxy a better place. His journey in Rebels is my personal highlight of the series, going from a Padawan that was scared of who he was to losing his vision and becoming better intuned with the force inorder to see the only possible ending by saving his friends and love.
I’m ugly crying… again. The more I watch this episode the more it hits. Emme reminds me of my first watch. I was very shocked then it sinks in and every rewatch is more emotional after that. Just watching the beginning where he is “cleansing” himself, preparing himself for the sacrifice and the last time Hera sees him, it’s just so beautiful and painful. Easy top SW, one of the best episodes and/or content of all time.
@@emme in the 5 years since this first aired I have done no less than three full rewatches of the series. From spark of rebellion all the way up to Twilight of The Apprentice I get swept up in the excitement and the action and fall in love with the characters every single time. Then twilight hits and just like knightfall(order 66) I start to remember the teen that is to come and then I start counting down until we get to this episode. And it NEVER gets easier
"teared up a little" a little good for you, I've seen this episode probably a good 4 or 5 times and tears are still streaming down my face, one of the most beautiful moments in all of Star Wars imho
By now Kanan has gotten so connected with the Force and come into his own as a Jedi Knight that he was able to see multiple futures and he knew that the most probable future where Hera and the rest made it out required him to sacrifice himself, and he was willing to do it. That's why it feels like he's saying goodbye to all of them throughout the episode, since he knows odds are he's not making it out of there with them. At the end while he's holding off the explosion he's so in tune with the Force and basically already dead, and he regains his vision and is able to fulfill his promise to Hera that he would see her again.
The vision returning is my single favorite momentin this series. The depth of planning. The last thing he said to her before mission to mission to Malachor was, "I will see you again." And then he lost his sight. Then for the Force to let his words be prophetic and true in this moment... kills me every single time.
the moment kanan cut off his ponytail i had a feeling that he was probably not gonna make it through the rescue. mostly because i remembered that I believe the night before the battle of 300 Spartans a spy had reported to their enemies they were cutting their hair and while they didn't think much of it for the Spartans it was pretty much a sign that they were ready to die and star wars does oh so love to make nods to historical events.
You did better than me. I cried. And I'm a 45 year old man. Kanan Jarrus (Caleb Dude) is one of my favorite Jedis, up there with Ahsoka, Luke and Yoda. He never was fully trained. He was just a kid when order 66 happened. But when the galaxy plummeted into ever greater darkness, he did what he had to do. He was brave and an honest and caring mentor to Ezra. He became a knight by honing himself and developing in the field of battle. He was selfless, in the end, but did what the Jedis were unable to do during the time of the galactic republic: form loving, and even romantic, bonds with those around him. It made him a greater Jedi.
I legit can never watch this episode without tearing up. My hearts racing just anticipating what I know will come. Rest in peace, Kanan Jarrus, Jedi Knight. And may the force be with you, always.
I don't often cry in front of a movie or show. But this episode of Rebels was strong enough for that. A long time ago, when you started this series, I told you that it was important to watch all the episodes, to really get attached to the characters, whereas Clone Wars could be watched with just the essential episodes. That's because of this episode and what it communicates. Rebels doesn't have an extraordinary script, but the power and soul that emanates from its characters is its strength, in my opinion. I shed another tear by the way.
No matter how many times I see it, it still hurts. Rewatching the series feels like watching old videos of a lost family member, and when the loth wolf's arrive, it just starts to hit. And I can't help but cry.
It’s actually really sad , he was such a great character, he may of not been the strongest, but that doesn’t matter he grew with Ezra and found his true self
I saw you post this as I headed out the door this morning, and I was like.. 'Oh No. We are finally at this one...' No one was prepared for this. He is one with the Force. The Force is with him.
This Episode Is Incredible ( From The very Beginning ...If you Listen to Everything Kanan Hears as he is Meditating ....Its Like the Loth-Wolf Show's Kanan ...What ends up being ''Easter Eggs'' for the Last few Episodes. Things Different characters End up saying at Important Moments. But they are Quoted out of order. To make it Seem as If it's Just Random Sentences.) And When He tells Ezra (Paraphrasing) How '' It will Serve Him Well Here and, In the Future,'' And Ezra was Like ''WHAT? The Last 7 Episodes of this Season Are Some of the Best Rebels Episodes (I believe Some of the Best Story telling In Much of Star Wars In general. Not counting Old School Star Wars lol) The Ending Is Heart Breaking. (Also, I cannot Imagine Knowing How you are Going to Go out. On top of that Info, Struggling to Tell the Ones you Love Goodbye without Saying to Much About the Future. ( That Kanan Was Shown Through the Force!) But He Did Save Everyone ! Plus Did Something That the Attack Fleet Wasn't Able to do Last Episode! )
Kanan is the antithesis of Vader/Anakin. Lost something (his sight) but got it back. Fell in love but stayed in the Light. Died to save his love and family.
I salute the person who find the title of this episode: Jedi night... (Ja don't tell me it doesn't bring back Jedi Knight immediately in your minds...). Then the tension of it is well built with the music from the beginning to the tragic end. Quite emotional... Dave Filoni I hate/love you for offering us this show and those moments.
Family loss. For all the deception and betrayal rolled up in Order 66, and for all the manipulation and downward spiraling of Anakin's transition into Darth Vader; Kanan's selfless act resulting in saving Hera and the rest of his "family" strikes EXTREMELY deep.
And now we know what the Lothwolf told him. And we also know why he cut his hair and shaved. He gave Ezra the keys to this mission..."to save Hera, and EVERYONE else". He knew what must be done. The Lothwolf told him the only way to save Hera was to sacrifice himself. He wanted to look like he did when he first met Hera, because that's how he wanted her to remember him. One of the most emotional moments in all of Star Wars.
I hate when people call Thrawn a villain. He is not a villain. He does what he has to do for the security of his people. Doesn’t matter if it means working for the Republic, which he did or the Empire. A stable galaxy keeps his people safe. Besides, he was playing the long game and changing the Empire from the inside. Stupid rebels had to muck it all up. They brought more chaos to the galaxy and gave rise to the first order..😅
So fun fact about me I had no reaction to Kanans death the first time I watched this episode because I didnt believe he was dead. The reason for this is after the season 3 premiere I stopped being scared for the crews saftey because there was never any consequences for what they did none of them got killed despite the many times they probably should have(not that I wanted any of them to die) and none of them ever got injuries that lasted more than 1 episode, even Kanan being blinded was essentially temporary. Everytime I have watched this episode since its messed me up because I know he is dead
Emme watching the probe droid scene: It actually got her, usually in the past we're able to save the day right before it pokes somebody Crosshair: Aaaaaaaaaaagggggghhhh
In the time of the Samurai ( during the 18th century militaristic period), they would have a long hair they would knot up to stabilize their helmets. The Samurai would meditate for hours and hours sometime just rehearsing their mission the same way elite athletes train for plays to be in position. It is said that sometimes these men would see visions ( love, death, family) and like todays Sumo wrestlers who cut their knot ( Chonmage) when they retired. So When Kanan cut and shaves and then kept trying to tell Hera something. It could have been that he wanted to tell here he wanted to be with her and start a life with here with no more fighting and risk losing her. Or maybe he knew that he would die very soon and just wanted to tell her he loved her.
Kanan's death was a bigger thing for the rebellion than most of the people know. The destructions of those tanks put Thrawn's plan (the fleet of new tie fighters, with shields and hyperspace traveling engines, too powerful for the rebellion old ships) to a stop, and the empire just went with the "little star" plan instead, building the death star and leading to the events of episode 4, 5 and 6. If the empire would have been able to build those kind of tie fighters the rebellion would have lost for sure... Kanan's death was a focal point in the fight against the rebellion, his sacrifice not only saved Hera and the others, but influenced the ending of the war too.
Well, they were building the Death Star regardless, but they would have had the Death Star and those new fighters too. The new fighters would have surely stopped the Rebels when they blew up the Death Star.
Those ships EZRA n SABINE are in we have seen before in clone wars they was used in the episode where PLO n ANAKIN had to search for ASHOKA cuzz of the temple bombing... those ships are police ships for the courrcants police during the time of clone wars
Yeah, this was the episode fans were anticipating and sad when it finally came. Due to continuity reasons (namely Luke being "the Last Jedi" before passing that title to ... well you'll find out who), Kanan was the character most likely to be killed off.
I was sort of "happily" surprised that the show actually killed off Kanan, as I was worried that having to many active jedi roaming around when we reach the original triology would be problematic.
Yeah sad but this or something similar had to happen. Kanan couldn't be with the rebels when Luke arrived which was comeing up quick now, and he got his sight back because he was so connected to the force in his last moments he was already becoming one with it while still alive so handicaps like blindness no longer applied to him
Emme: Shaving your beard? But for why? Me: Well, wouldn't you want to look your best for your girl? I realize beards are in right now, but still...if you've got the jawline there's nothing like a smooth & silky skin for the ladies to caress.
Wolves shouldn't tell him anything. They probably can't even speak. Remember that the jedi have their own way of speaking. Like when Ezra listened to rock and it's story in season 1 episode 10
