Star Wars Squadrons - Is it Worth Buying? 

I'm glad this game came out just so I could listen to 20 minutes of Laobis wording.

I was starting to think I had a good understanding of the English language for, mostly, understanding uncle bumblefuck, your channel shows me that I still have a lot to learn.

Just refunded it. Sorting out the controls was an absolute chore, navigating the menus broken in VR, and I found the graphics bad outside of the cockpit and lacked the depth perception that DCS gives in VR. Shame.

Such a shame they didnt consult one of their main target audiences in flights simmers. I didnt expect anything hard core, but wouldve been nice to have some basic elements implemented better. Missed opportunity to make good game awesome

I'm going to pass for a while. No trackir at launch, support for various hardware not working and a campaign I hear is ok but not groundbreaking (also sad there aren't two different campaigns). Then there's the unescapable fact that it revolves around airquake (or spacequake). Now, I don't mind the odd sticky tangle but I normally play Elite to explore the galaxy and DCS to deliver presents to the needy in various parts of the world.

So you need a computer engineering degree just to map the joysticks. No track IR. What an EA cluster-fuck. Er no thanks. Thanks for the review Mr Laobi.

Squadrons now 50% off on Steam. I will consider buying it after I see how much the updates and patches have improved the game since the initial release. I would also buy if Disney would use part of the proceeds for a Kathleen Kennedy Retirement Package!

This looks like a space flight sim designed by people who have probably never played, and definitely never designed, a flight sim in their lives. Which makes sense, as the last EA flight sim was a very. very long time ago (1997).

the game is fun, but a bit shit at the moment. we have been asking for trackIR support for weeks, but they ignore us... I refunded the game yesterday. I will pick it back up if they fix the issues, and add TrackIR support... but not before.

Almost shit myself laughing when you said they treat droids almost like you treat hipsters - "almost like humans but the droids are more worthy of any courtesy or respect" any my god you hit the nail on the head with that one.

They could have made those cockpits interactive and spent 5 minutes on the controller mapping. It would've been awesome. I'll wait till it hits the bargain bin...next month. EA and Disney have totally done star wars in....

I set up my controls before watching this, so I just assigned all the axis and buttons in a regular DCS-like manner. I had no idea it was supposed to be difficult. I got the T.16000k with throttle, and I had zero problems with it.

I wouldn’t pay even 40 shekels for this... in fact they would have to strap me onto a chair in a movie theatre clockwork orange style, keep my eyes open and tape a controller to my hand so that my involuntary convulsions would allow me to “breeze” through the training missions (aka “campaign”). Rogue Squadron looks better than this, and that was back when something that didn’t look like a solid block of shite was considered “good graphics”. In fact, the only good thing about this game is your review, Laobi.

if you're looking for a grandiose campaign get yourself freespace I and II, set up the high res mods and rejoice.

EA lost me at the control setup. Yet again a proof of their capitalistic ignorant we dont give a fuck about the player approach. I will stick to DCS that actually recognises input devices. Oh and "I owe you one" for saving my wallet 😉

A solid review lol

I bought it and applied for a refund. It took me 61 minutes to finally give up on the controllers. No matter what I did, my third one wouldn't become visible. Whether it's a Steam problem or EA's I don't know and don't care. All works fine in windows controllers menu, in DCS and IL-2, so not this time EA!

Worth buying? Pfffffff... yes and no... Back in the 90‘s I played a lot of „Tie Fighter“, „X-Wing“ and „Rie Dighter vs X-Wing“. Compared to those games the single player campagne is very, very simple and really boring. I finished it in a few hours on my PS4pro and skipped allmost every boring dialog of it. Multiplayer? Could be fun BUT as in very multiplayer you have the problem that you are facing a lot of people with no real life - people who spent 18 hours a day playing „Squadrons“. And this is frustrating. So if you take „Squadrons“ and forget multiplayer yout get something like an average spaceship-actiongame, a bit boring but for 32€ it is OK .

Bought it, no online service was working due to "technical error". After following EA's help guide and finally contacting their support they told me to contact my ISP to change my IP to IPv4 from IPv6. I asked them to give me back my money. And I spent more time playing X-Wing, Tie Fighter etc. than was healthy for me back in the day. It got me back to DCS tough, so there's a plus I guess... MiG-21 is Tie-Fighter of DCS, change my mind.

Why can't games be more like games from yesteryear; cool stuff is unlocked by playing the game not through an in game economy. Is Star Wars: Squadrons worth buying? Yes, yes it is. Especially if you're a DCS fan and have a HOTAS and VR setup already. This is absolutely my favorite VR game. It is very immersive, competitive, and fun!

Yupp yupp and yupp. I've spend 2.5 hours trying to get this junk to run propperly. Will give it one more go with your suggestions on how to get the setup correct. But I expect my enjoyment will be just as much fun as that dog fight you had against the A-wing.

Hard pass, because the campaign is short, with a crappy story and forgettable characters, and it does't matter what you're shooting at, an Xwing has the same durability as a tie fighter. I can't say about MP but from the looks of it tie fighters might be too durable, and what the hell 5 vs 5?! Its star wars it should be more like 5 vs 15

Looks like Elite Dangerous PVP, but made for gobshites and everyone is flying either one of two different fighters. Maybe worth 10 quid
