Just imagine if the Jedi counsel suddenly went rogue. Like the dark side is a very straight forward power, but the intellect and cussing that a lightside user can employ is crazy.
+Ciaran Smith indeed while there could be some controversy over anakin due to the fact he hasn't really mastered the force it's more impressive that he was able to withstand windu who was if I remember correctly was able to use the dark side as well.
+Stealthyhunter He isn't a dark side user but he train himself to use his negative or dark impulsive and channel them into his fighting style. More like a filter that helps power his style but he definitely isn't dark side.
+Ciaran Smith But as they said, there are risks of breaking his mind. So I have a feeling, they held back. Granted what he did WAS amazing. I'm srue they had to hold back a lot in order not to break his mind. That said, again, he still withstood 2 masters.
+TheMSupreme wouldn't Yoda break his mind just enough to make him talk rather than just crack it like an egg, I mean yoda is powerful but it's the control he has that makes him frighting
+Pvt. Church shouldn't you be dead like what 3 times already cause the first you died by an EMP then the one who gave you your name died then there was epsilon who basically was you but you know just a bunch of memories of what you did instead who then died by sacrificing himself to save the others
@@Ether101_Prime No, it has always been mind rape. It is deliberately invading the mind of another without consent. That is by definition, rape. You can't blame Disney for everything, however much you lot try.
+Darth Stalker Not really. It took 3 Jedi, 2 of which were council members, and the Chosen One, to break him. Btw Antoine, who do you think would win in a fight: Cad Bane or Boba Fett? I say Bane
I love this scene for a number of reasons. 1. I love seeing Bane tapping his fingers together as if he is already planning to escape or he was just bored. 2. I love how they actually agree instantly with Anakin and Ashoka instead of taking more time. And that Mace and Obi-Wan don't condone this as torture as it is more of a forced manipulation. 3. I love how Bane still didn't give into the mind trick being forced upon him by The Chosen One and two Jedi Master's. 4. Their voices coming together in sync and the literal sound and feel of the force manifesting in the room. 5. When Anakin says to dew it again, a reminder of when he beat the shit out of Poggle. Again to show that sometimes needing to get information to save lives is more important than integral morals.
Also Windu pointing out Bane’s fear of his employer (Sidious) is great, and Bane ending the conversation, shows Sidious is far, far worse than any Jedi could be.
I think this scene also shows that the Jedi are hypocrites, because while they don't allow physical torture, they are pretty okay with mental torture/mind rape. As long as they don't have to get their hands dirty, they'll condone almost anything. Anakin is very flawed and often makes the wrong conclusions, but he is extremely honest. He knows it isn't cool, but at least he wears his reasons for what he does and why he sometimes makes morally questionable decisions on his sleeve. For him, the ends justify the means and he is honest about that, and while the Jedi act like that's the opposite of their beliefs, they are utter liars. They just can't admit it.
Also the fact that Bane ultimately won the exchange because whilst he did reveal the location of the Holocron, he only delivered on half of his promise, before escaping from Kenobi and Windu. He didn’t take them to where the children were, nor did he ever have any intention of doing so. He gave them lip service so that they would transport him to a location where he had a greater chance to escape. Had it not been for Anakin and Ahsoka studying his starfighter, Bane would have escaped and the children would have been lost. Cad lives up to his reputation, because even though he lost a battle here, he would have won the war had it not been for the intuition of the Chosen One and his padawan. Bane is one of the most badass characters in the franchise imo. Made even greater by the fact that he was inspired by the great Lee Van Cleef.
Technically Anakin was the one who cemented the results. Obviously, they were not trying to destroy his mind, but Anakin knew it was painful for him and used the fear of it against him when he was like "AGAIN"
@@theplayasclub5948 unorthodox, yes. But using fear to get information of a prisioner is beyond unorthodox to me, and that is exactly what anakin does.
@@Maudios But let’s keep in mind this is Cad Bane . Not some petty low life . He’s capable of killing Jedi and has so before in the Clone Wars . Not only that but he kidnapped Younglings from their sacred order . I don’t think they particularly cared. As Mace and Obi are not fools they know fear is a way to get information out. “ I think your fear of the employer outweighs any fear of us” .
@@theplayasclub5948 Like Poggle he would've been physically tortured to extract the information they desperately needed. (lol Keepers of the peace huh?)
That line where Windu realizes Bane is afraid of his employer let’s you understand how scary Sidious is, Bane could only imagine what Sidious would do to him if he revealed the truth.
Not at all. Bane knows the Jedi wont harm him in any way, the light side doesn't torture prisoners as an interrogation tactic, he wouldn't talk no matter who his employer is. Worse that will happen is he gets put in a cushy jail cell and then escape next episode whereas even with a regular, relatively harmless employer, he tanks his entire reputation as a professional bounty hunter, nobody will want to hire him anymore, he'll get a bounty on his own head, etc... He's a high rate bounty hunter so whoever is employing him will be rich and powerful and obviously a person willing to pay top dollar just to settle a grudge. By leaking information he tanks his whole carrier and puts a bounty on his own head, much better to get free lodging for a while and bust out when he gets bored... His employer is guaranteed to send a lot of help busting him out too, they obviously don't want the information leaking and the longer he's held captive the more likely that becomes even if he's a professional.
@@DrakeOola A bounty hunter of Bane's skill will not be ruined by one leak. He almost never gets caught anyway, and he can still dunk nearly anyone you need killed. He'd have plenty of work still, and there is a very low number of people who could legitimately threaten him, even if a large outfit was bought to hunt him he'd be able to evade and whittle away at them.
@@lookwhatyoudidtomyfish4453the light side doesn't torture but sadly for Bane he actually got into a interrogation Cell with 2 Jedi known for being War criminals and Mace Windu
rohann lee force choke works on everything, but bane would have to be alone if anyone else especially saw anakin using the force choke it would be bad news
@@solairethesunlightwarrior8813 actually it wouldn't i read somewhere that those tubes on the side of him will actually keep giving him oxygen to breathe incase he was every forced choke
Asokha suggesting to use a combined jedi mind trick but not knowing its effects shows her creativeness yet inexperience. Obi Wan is quick to point out the negative consequences of this method showing his loyalty to the Jedi Order. Anakin is quick to accept this extreme method without spending time to think of others showing his dealings in absolutes like a sith. Windu who was said to walk the line between the light and dark side of the force understood that this method was practical in achieving the goals of the Jedi Order even if its methods went against what the Order teaches.
Meh i don't think you're analysing Windu correct. Windu and Obi wan were in the same boat they both new the risks but gave it a shot. Anakin tho... Anakin would have kept going, probably until Cads brain exploded if it wasn't for Windu and Kenobi
Children's lives were at risk as well. Anakin always had a soft spot for children Even after his turn his killing of the younglings haunted him till his death. His dive to the dark side made him hate everything he loved at one point
Yeah, I think the super-mind-trick makes even a strong mind doubt themselves so much that they either concede in order to be relieved of the extreme self-doubt, or they continue to doubt themselves so much that they eventually doubt everything they’ve known, thus driving them totally insane.
"The reason the Jedi Civil War was named such, was because few in the galaxy can recognise the difference between the Sith and the Jedi. To them, they are both Jedi-with different philosophies." This scene of Jedi torture kind of proves that sentiment correct.
I love how when Bane says “Get out of my head” he seems genuinely mortified and begging because the feeling of having them forced into your mind and not being in control of yourself is the worst torture imaginable
This scene was legitimately creepy for 13 year old me. Their overlapping voices were chilling and the fact that Cad Bane, a normally, menacingly calm, unflappable character was so legitimately terrified, was pretty jarring.
I actually think this scene really shows the darkness of the Jedi, which I unfortunately don't think was handled quite as well in other parts of the series.
@@PrisonMike196 well I think you can put it as he is the strongest "defensive form" Jedi because his form requires absolute defence and for the enemy to slip up just like how Anakin did during ROTS (I think anyway because at that point Vader should have been at least more powerful than obi wan)
Yeah, cause Anakin was being full of himself and jumped like an idiot instead of going around. Obi-Wan was being pushed back by Anakin during their whole battle and the only reason that Anakin lost was due to his overconfidence@battleborn4436
"Well guys, we can end up Force lobotomizing this person" "Eh, sure, why not." Total time to come to grips with such a decision: A few seconds. Jedi ethics at their finest.
ToxicDubZ Well, after the Ruusan Reformations, Jedi began to recruit members as infants. Normally they needed parental consent, yet in special cases, like the Baby Ludi custody case, they refused to return a recruit to her mother. In this case, they could find them via meditation or, more easily, hire a Gand Findsman.
+Ahsoka Tano Not quite. Here they're trying to control his mind to an extent, whereas Kylo Ren was trying to get information. it's one thing to ask a driver which pedal is the brake pedal and quite another to force them to step on it. Darth Vader was very good at mind reading, in Return of the Jedi he read Luke's mind without having to be that close to him or any hand gesturing (just to compare him to Kylo Ren).
@@AL4RC0NR4MO5 well, 1. Luke was weakened, failed to hide his thoughts. 2. Vader is Luke's father, they are connected. Kylo Ren: 1. Did want to mind rape his enemies. 2. Is weaker than Vader.
@@КонстантинПаршуков-о6б Vader isn’t weaker then kylo consider anakin as a younger man could control animals and Vader legit controlled a dragon like being against palpatine
@@UltronImperative I wouldn't say they oppose feelings, but they don't exactly teach the right ways to deal with them. They teach kids from an early age. They don't brainwash them. And aside from Ahsoka, when have they cast someone out for not being obedient?
Anakin is so bloodthristy here. Everyone is like "Mmmm this is dangerous" "Mmmm stop there" And Anakin like "What does it matter? Lol. Lets try again!"
Creepy... if you think about it, the dark side had influence on anakin long before Palpatine did . Especially during the latter years of the war and after schmi's death.
It's not really creepy though, since it makes absolute sense. Anakin was a slave, filled with hatred of being a slave, he was distraught when his mother had to be left behind after he was freed, his master Watto was a piece of shit... Honestly, Qui-Gon should have left Anakin on Tattooine, too many factors were stacked against Anakin ever staying on the path of the Light Side to warrant allowing him to be trained at all.
@@graysonb_designs and yet..... Luke Skywalker his son had a similar set circumstances that couldve left him hateful and butter but he instead chose to stay on the path of light So it is creepy when you think about it with Anakin.
@@pingaspearce9403 It’s nothing alike whatsoever. Luke had a mother and father figure. Luke was never a slave. Luke was a 19 year old when the Lars’ died, meaning he was able rationalize and move on. Luke had stories to inspire his heroic disposition. Anakin was 9 when he was ripped from his mother, forced to leave her behind. He was 20 something when she died, failing to save her even though he was a Jedi now. Anakin lived a miserable life that spiralled out of whack the moment he left Tatooine. Luke lived a boring but normal life, until he went on to become the greatest Jedi who ever lived, which was what Anakin had aspired to, and failed at.
@@graysonb_designs The most likely theory is that Plaguess and/or Palpatine created Anakin. Therefore if Qui-Gonn left Anakin, they would have taken him anyways and it would have been much worse for the galaxy. Anakin trained as a sith whilst just a kid is a horrible future
Bane is strong willed, but he isn't dumb. One round of a mind trick triple threat was more than enough for him to decide his mission wasn't worth risking the loss of his mind
I noticed something you notice how Anakin is on the left Mace windu is in the middle it Obi-Wan is on the right Anakin represents the dark side Obi-Wan represents the light side and mates went to represents the balance between both light and dark their placement like that can't be no coincidence
they weren't trying to destroy his mind AT ALL nor was it "Fine", they were trying to manipulate him into helping them save children that were stolen. They didn't want his mind to be "Destroyed" at all since it would eliminate any chance of getting the holocron.
The festering hypocrisy and corruption of the Jedi was part of Darth Sidious' long-term plan to make the galaxy okay with them being bumped off. For decades he manipulated and pushed them until they no longer found awful things to be awful anymore. It's quite frightening to see how far Jedi have fallen without realizing they're turning into monsters.
I would agree with you Obi-Wan, but like Anakin said there is no other choice. Bane has the Holocron and the kids, there's a time where we need to take action whether we like it or not.
I like how this aggressive version of the mind trick (or "Jedi mind-fuck" as I call it) is being utelized often in the Star Wars universe. The Inquisitors use it as an interrogation and torture method in Rebels, as does Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens.
Cad Bane helps kidnap 2 children and nobody bats an eye. The Jedi use a technique that is not "typical good guy fashion" to try to save the children and everyone loses their minds.
Anakin: See Snips? With enough willpower and a strong enough connection to the Force, you can compel anyone to say anything. White Chicks was amazing. Cad Bane: White Chicks was amazing. Anakin: He believes it too. Ahsoka: Ugh!
Happy to see that even a strong mind has limits against the Jedi Mind Trick. Even though Bane was able to outwit them, you can see he was barely able to do it.
The message I take from this: Sometimes to accomplish good you must be willing to use extreme or dark methods. Just dont let the darkness control you, once you let it in there is no getting rid of it.
She had no idea how powerful it was. She’s still young and inexperienced and at this point in the show I don’t think she has ever done a jedi mind trick
Alternate universe: "You will take us to the holocron" "No "You will take us to the holocron" "No" "You will takes us to the holocron" "No" "You will takes us to the holocron" "No" "You will takes us to the holocron" "No" "Perhaps let's try. Again." "You will takes us to the holocron" "No" "You will takes us to the holocron" "No "You will takes us to the holocron" "No" "You will takes us to the holocron" "No"
Even as a kid, I questioned whether this tactic went against the teachings of the Jedi. They essentially tortured him to get him to comply with their demands, and there was a big risk they would destroy him in the process. Always seemed like something a Sith would do instead of a jedi to me.
I think this scene actually did a good job showing frightening darkness within the Jedi. The Jedi by this point are supposed to be less good than they should be, which can feel sometimes glossed over in Prequel media.
It wasn't really torture, either. I wouldn't call a mind trick torture, and this is just a much more powerful attempt at it. Of course there was a risk of destroying his mind, but Bane hadn't left them much of a choice.
Ahsoka's look when he was screaming. Man, she was like 13 and she saw 3 Jedi, the people who are supposed to be good guys and always do the right thing, literally mind raping someone. And yes, it was her idea, but she was a child, she didn't know what she was saying. She could have been traumatized by that. This was surely one of the things that eventually made her leave the order.
@@thewatchersdidnothingwrong7702 Maybe that 3 adult Jedi wouldn't immediately do what an inexperienced Padawan suggests? Especially not with her standing there to watch them torture someone. It's pretty clear whay OP is saying too, unless you're being willfully ignorant.
I like how Banes expression changes slightly when all 4 of them walk in. That’s his bounty hunter instincts going “ Wait… something’s not right here.” He can just tell that this times gonna be different from before.
It's moments like this that show why the Jedi fell and why they had so much trouble seeing the future throughout the clone wars. Even the idea of this sounds pure dark side, and they were willing to do it despite they risked destroying Cad Bane's mind.
