The whole explosion of Alderaan / the Death Star was ridiculously stupid the first time around already, because neither of them are "packed with explosives" and they'd rather slowly break apart. [Fusion reactors DONT "blow up" like nuclear reactors MIGHT ... because a fusion bomb requires a nuclear bomb to create the conditions to do that, but that isnt part of a fusion reactor.]
@GhostWatcher2024
@GhostWatcher2024 19 дней назад
@Muck006 In the word of C3PO, dont get technical with me. It's more like.... in the case of Alderaan, think "Independence Day" with the aliens blowing up landmarks. They werent using nukes. But what do nukes really do? They apply an overwhelming amount of energy. Specifically the energy released from breaking fissile materials. In the case of the death star laser, that direct energy is apply via energy beam... more like plasma rather than laser. How mich energy is needed to destroy a planet? Because the death star just delivered the energy equivalent of a million Tsar Bombas. Also... Is it science? No. But who watches sci fantasy space operasnfor science? If you wsnt science watch star trek. In the case of proton torpedoes (which basicslly do the same job as nuke-tipped Tomahawk cruise missiles or nuke-tipped torpedoes), they ARE providing a massive amount of energy on impact. It does NOT require a nuclear explosion to start a fusion explosion... i dont know where you got that. It DOES require enough directed energy to initiate a fusion reaction (currently, a fission reaction is the only means humans of the 21st century have to provide that energy, but fission is not required for fusion.) Also, a nuear reactor is not a nuclear bomb. Chernobyl was quite the explosion but it was not a nuclear explosion. And blowing up a FICTIONAL energy source with a FICTIONAL explosive weapon doewnt make the scenes in Star Wars any more unrealistic than star trek's photon torpedoes or antimatter impulse engines or warp drive, and star trek is the science show. Saying the death star explosion is lame is a bit like throwing a Fuel-air bomb onto a oil refinery depot and blowing it up and saying its lame because it has to be gasoline to explode. All that said... if your issue is with how these explosions were depicted with cgi... pray tell, how DOES it look when a fictional massive energy weapon with a fictional energy source blow up a planet, or itself get blown up by a fictional weapon exploding in its fictional energy source? Nobody in the Star Wars movies ever said the death stars were powered by NUCLEAR reactors. Perhaps its a matter/antimatter reactor like in star trek? Point is we dont know and it doesn't matter and its tech beyond what we have. If it existed in the future we wouldnt comprehend it any more than a 16th century commoner comprehending nuclear energy. So let Lucas depict it however he damn well pleases and dont watch it if you dont like it.
@GhostWatcher2024

10:59 as an old man and movie maker I love watching young reactors talk visual effects in terms of “computer” or “digital!” There was nothing digital about that shot. A real Landscape inhabited by a real actor with a practical ship model superimposed in post with a film printer. My advice to any effects student out there: (and animator actually) learn what came before to understand where the trade came from and how inventive they needed to be. Yes computers make things easy, but they also make them homogenous. Know what your computer program can do but think so far out of the box to come up with clever ways to push the technology to make unique effects other than off the shelf lazy solutions.

I think when Luke's hand gets caught off and learns the truth about Vader... I think he tries to fall to his death, rather than join the empire/ dark side. We can't no for sure... but I don't think he was planning to survive the fall. Definitely the best Star Wars movie there will ever be.
@daveygivens735
@daveygivens735 Месяц назад
My theory on Luke's fall-into-the-abyss: 'Empire' is all about him discovering, but not yet controlling the Force. When he's emotional, high alert, he's able to tap it, like he did to escape the Carbonite chamber. I think during the fall he was terrified, which enabled him to call the Force to abruptly slow his fall. The tumble into the hatchway was just pure luck. I'm all ears for a better theory.
@jessebatres6895
@jessebatres6895 Месяц назад
I like that analysis! It does seem like the Force is more prevalent within Luke when he's in a high stakes situation. When he let go and started to fall, I was confused because it looked like the drop was going to kill him, but he must've known or felt that he would be okay.
@mikejankowski6321
@mikejankowski6321 Месяц назад
"There's no such thing as luck." Without his weapon, and Vader clearly too powerful to overcome, fight or flight narrows quickly to flight. Falling away was his only chance, and he made the best of it. Only while considering these types of comments have I come to agree with another poster that he used the force to get sucked into those tubes that led out. Having separated from the fight, he could become calm again and like Yoda said, and use it properly.

I don’t think this film was enhanced that much. Im sure it was cleaned up etc., but as far as added CGI, the film didn’t really need much. Its a darker, very different kind of film that doesn’t require the dozens and dozens of aliens that Star Wars did. My fellow fans can correct me here. I watched them in release order and I used to defend the "watch 'em as I did". After a LOT of thought and back-and-forth discussion and consideration, I am sold on a variant of what is known as "The Machete Order." Consider this. We didn't have all of the parts of the story back in the day. Now we do, and we can watch them in an order where we can still end with Episode 6, as was intended. Actually, since you were already familiar with the Luke/Vader thing, George Lucas would have recommended that you watch them 1-9 in chronological order. I suggest this order: 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, Obi-Wan Kenobi Series, then Rogue One, and finally, Return of The Jedi. You can do "Solo", then 7, 8, and 9. You will be glad you did. I've been a fan since these movies premiered; trust me on this! Lastly, don't listen to the ones telling you to skip the last 3 movies. They're the super-psycho fans who study the books and such as though it were their religion, and woe to those who may stray from the canon, or make you use either your imagination or your willing suspension of disbelief to make the story make sense. You're the reactor, they should expect that you will make up your own mind! I enjoy your reactions, definitely will sub if you decide to go the Machete route. I've seen the other order a million times on here already. Very few have done it your way and they're the ones with the best reactions.

Another interpretation of this was not to use the force itself as an offensive weapon like choking people or force pushing them to their death or whatever. This was actually the interpretation largely used by the original d20 Star Wars game that Knights of the Old Rpublic was based on. The team who wrote those source books worked closely with Lucasfilm and those books literally became a primer for the old EU novels, fleshing out many aspects of the world and even things about the Jedi that wouldn't be seen in film until the prequels years later.

The improvement in choreography is partly a matter of extra money for it, but _also..._ the guy who played Kenobi was _over 60_ when he took the role in the _first_ movie! There's limits to what he could do, physically. Luke and Vader were played by _much_ younger actors who were in better shape, so the choreography _could_ be better. And Kenobi's actor wasn't exactly an action star during his career, either, so... there's that. EDIT: You mention Luke having a good head on his shoulders, and so on. Remember this when/if you watch the sequel trilogy. You may find out why that trilogy earned so much hate. As for why Han didn't say 'I love you' back, it's because he's been _showing_ her for the entire movie that he does. Plus he's something of a scoundrel. ;) This film is better than the original for me, and, for many, it's the best one ever made.

IIRC, most of it was the advancement of the technology. The sabers they used in the first movie were really fragile. They figured out how to make sturdier ones that would create better lightsaber effects as they went, so they didn't have to be nearly as careful with them

@robindude8187 Месяц назад
@@DavidSmith-mt7tb Good to know! Thanks! I was thinking the age was a factor since if you look at the scene where they're in the hidden cargo areas, Luke and Han lever themselves out of the storage, but Kenobi never does, though he makes a move like he's going to... just... doesn't, and your mind fills in that he did.

The Jedi have a 25000-year-old history, so I assume a lot changed during that time. At least watch Episode 1-3 as well before you venture into the shows. Episode 1-6 is George's story, that will always be the core of Star Wars that everything else derives from.

Per typical multihundreds of viewings, one question remains: why did Luke just not finish off the Wampa in the cave and stay the night there? Why was his best decision to be “ hey I’ll run out into the night in below freezing temperatures in a storm!!!?” The only justification for this I can think of via it shows his impulsive snap decision immature self setting up the grown up serious Jedi he will turn into! I'd watch the films in release order. That's the way information was revealed to the audiences. And the flow of the movies aren't disrupted. For example, why watch The Lord of The Rings, the first two books, then watch The Hobbit movies and then go back to finish the original trilogy. Or why watch the first seven Harry Potter movies, then watch The Fantastic Beast movies and then go back to finish the last Harry Potter film. If you plan on watching it in machete order, you may as well watch many of The Star Wars tv series before watching Episode 6 as you will gain a lot of more information before the conclusion. If you want to watch it in the machete order, you should do it on a second viewing, not a first viewing.

After you've seen them all about a million times, you'll eventually figure out which ones you can just keep watching and enjoying over and over again. I saw the original films in theaters starting in 1977, so after nearly fifty years, I can safely say that Empire is my favorite. I'd probably say that my order of favoritism would be 5, 4, 6, 3, Rogue, 2, 1, 7... and then the abysmal disasters that were 8 and 9 far down at the tail end.

Idk if anyone else commented this already, but the Jedi using the Force "never for attack" is in the sense of being a sole aggressor - self-defense, defending others, or taking action in a series of conflicts to protect others is perfectly fine. (The latter is the tricky one, though, which you get to see tackled more outside the Original Trilogy.)

This episode is my favorite of all of them, but there are others that are close. As to what to see next, do you like SPOILERS? Because if you watch the prequels before Episode VI, it will spoil a few important things. I saw them in release order, so I cannot relate exactly to how one reacts to the alternative suggested (the Machete Order). I recommend what I know - 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3, and Rogue One. The original trilogy was primarily Luke's story, while the prequels were primarily the story of his father and how he became Vader. Rogue One bridges them beautifully. Han saying "I love you too" was tried and did not work. Keep in mind that he had been showing Leia his feelings all along; everyone knew he loved her. In that moment he just needed her to know that he understood, as he might die in the next moment. The effects were substantially better because they worked on improvements right after the first film was a success. On Hoth especially, you saw a lot of matte composites done with the snowy white background. Previously, such techniques were used primarily with the black of space because they could not be done well otherwise. Great reaction! The scene in the freezing chamber where Vader is at the top of the stairs saying "But you are not a Jedi yet." ALWAYS gets me. Visually powerful with the colors and composition, the music and dialog perfect, the tension building. That is masterful filmmaking.

She put it in her biography before she died. She got an ok from him to put it in there. 5. Hans', "I know" was ad lib because Ford thought it was what Solo would say, and required a new script to be written in the next movie. 6. Ford wanted Solo to die. 7. The reason this movie and Jedi are so good is that Lucas did not direct them. Lucas is a great idea man. I won’t belittle him that. He created a great world that he was passionate about. But he is not a good director. He does not know how to get good performances from his casts and crew. He admits he hates directing and the actors and crew have said he does not give good direction. That’s why I wish he handed director duties to others for the prequels. But he jealously held onto that because of this movie. Kirscner and Ford knew that the original solo line of “ I love you to” Is not what Han would say but rather the infamous “ I know” line being more appropriate and celebrated. Lucas got pissed that his idea was not as good. So he demanded complete control of the prequels. That is why they are a mess. But more on that after you have seen those. And that opinion is not just an old OG Star Wars fan, it is from someone who studied film and storytelling , thanks mostly to the og Star Wars movies.
