I honestly thought it was shit. The pacing of the movie is really off. It’s like they shoe-horned in New Hope and and half of Empire in together. I honestly preferred the prequels. The camera work was too fluid for my liking as opposed to the more static shots of the originals. Also, because of the extremely quick pacing, an awful lot of the big moments didn’t land because there was no build up. Im going to go see it again at some point and now that I have my expectations set, I might be able to enjoy it more.

There were some disappointments, but the good outweighs the bad. Definitely better than the entirety of the prequels, and I'm currently debating with myself if it's better than return of the jedi (empire, and a new hope being my faves). It just that good. Definitely has faults, and definitely derivative plotwise, but it has character attachment, and character backstory in spades. I'm always one to forgive a tired story, so long as the storytelling is compelling, and so long as I care about the characters. This movie definitely made me care about the characters. Even if it kinda didn't make me care about the plot.

Who else is was worried

Just saw the film, and no spoilers here, it was awesome! The actors had joy and chemistry, the villain was terrific and the balance between the old characters and the new was spot on. The film actually gets you more invested in the new characters, however, paying respect to the old. The speed of the film is the only downside that I can think of, and the vast amount of exposition dialogue. There were so many absolutely gorgeous scenes that lasted like.. 2 seconds or less, and they were astonishing. That being said, enjoy the film! :D

I thought it was a solid movie. To be honest, it is the best movie in 2015 and a bet to carry over to 2016. The cast was spot on especially Boyega and Ridley....I think their chemistry was awesome and their romance was not forced. Looking forward to Episode 8 already :)).

Am I the only star wars fan that found this movie stupid as fuck? ×Spoilers×Spoilers× it's literally episode 4 all over again!!! a droid takes some important information while the droid friend is captured, it's found by a scrapper who doesn't have a real (biological or physical) family. That's the start of the movie, the rest is the same, the starkiller is a massive death star, they fly an x wing through a small slot into the main heat converter, the wise master is killed by his previous trainee/prodigee.... I could go on and on never mind the acting, the shitty sound editing and the fact that the force is now just a fucking tool anyone can control. rey can use jedi mind tricks without even knowing what it is. it took luke skywalker years to even be able to life some objects... complete bullshit.

The prequels are not as bad as people make them out to be. Some people just love to follow the bandwagon of haters and can't make up their own opinions........

It was good but overall I'm a bit disappointed. I kept getting dragged out of the film by "oh, that happened in episode 4", "look, that's exactly like 4". Hux and Kylo Ren didn't seem threatening at all.

Rey is a total bad ass. I love how the lightsaber fight(s) was/were more like the original trilogy and more about fighting to survive rather than fancy twirls like the prequels. I'm digging the first order and their troops although Phasma was underused and Kylo Ren requires you to actually think about why he is the way he is.. they don't flat out say why he's evil. THIS IS A CONSPIRACY PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!! There is no way that this is a GREAT MOVIE! The only way that this movie looks good is in comparison to the other SW films. For example: in comparison any movie from LOTR or Matrix series beats this film into the dirt. Why...because they actually have a coherent STORY, with CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. But alas, the FORCE of Fanboydom has everybody thinking that this is a GREAT movie when its GARBAGE. So Sad....

My main problems with the movie were the same issues I had with Jjabrams's Star Trek movies: too much wanking over the source material. Remember that scene in the first Star Trek movie where Old Spock shows up, solves everyone's problems, and GIVES SCOTTY HIS OWN EQUATION? Yeah, there's a lot of that in The Force Awakens. All in all, it gets a Worst Movie Ever from me because Chewie's gun fires red lasers, when everyone knows Wookie bowcasters fire GREEN bolts.

Lack of action, repeating same story, lack of new locations, Republic gone in 30sec, the girl using the force like a boss with no training(why, just why would you do this?), a clone hurting a sith with a laser saber......This just was too much, I mean, WHAT THE FU*K.(so you want to tell us that a sith or jedi spent all their life training lasersaber art and fighting and some random guy can just hurt you ?? ) I just want to watch the 6 last parts again and pretend like this one doesnt exist.

As with most Abrams work, very little originality and nonsensical plot and events. Character interactions are great, and there's a lot of humor (obviously influenced by Guardians of the Galaxy).

The villians in this film have been heavily "Marvelized" (or Disneyfied?) meaning that they are not good, they are comically bad and underused. And Kylo Ren, fuck that guy.

Sorry to say that but no it is not better than the prequels... Lack in story telling, bad jocks and so much trying and failing. But Hey the effects are pretty awesome! (This is something you can expect in the year 2015)

After seeing this movie, being excited for a year and begin a huge fan of the original 3, I was severely let down! I almost gave up after seeing episode 1 and 2, refused to see 3 I went into this thinking, fuck yeah, original cast, back to props and film, original star wars! I was forced to sit through cheesy one liners, another angsty sith emo sith, no character development and a half fast script! Thanks Star Wars and Disney for making a movie specifically for 12 year olds to sell toys by Christmas.

The movie was fun, but also frustrating. I found it hard to understand the context of the current major conflict with the First Order other than... they are the bad guys? A story MUST let the audience understand what the heck the rules and status quo of the universe are. It wasn't like they were keeping an interesting plot secret... they just didn't bother to show us a necessary element of the story. And that bothers me a lot.

This movie is almost an exact copy of the old movies and has way to many plot holes in it. How the hell is the empire so dam strong, what 30-40 years later, after just being taken out in New Hope. Why is there a group called the resistance the rebels won, the movie should be told from their perspective not the first orders. The first order should be the new rebels. How do they have the resources/time to build a weapon the size of a planet after just being destroyed? Did they not learn to hide the dam shield generators better after 2 death stars went down? There is a scene in which the princess states that half of their fleet was down after only having sent like 20 x-wings. The scale was really small in this movie, when it comes to army size, which would be logical if the first order didn't have such a gigantic weapon. The princess needs to be killed off her acting and plastic surgery is not that great, ignore that one though it's more of a personal gripe. The music is disjointed as hell in this movie, it starts and stops, starts and stops, again and again at strange intervals that don't sinc to well with the editing. The list goes on and on with scenes and story elements that are exact copies of the other movies. At least the shitty prequels were original and offered something new.

the biggest weakness of the film is that it wasn't original. it was nearly a clone of a new hope. why would anyone want to see the same movie "except bigger" this movie had the opportunity to revive star wars by expounding on the genius of the original trilogy. but nearly everything remains the same except a few twist.

The movie at best was fine, and I didn't feel like punching it in the face. In a few weeks I'll have forgotten all about it. Hopefully the blue-ray will have 3 or 4 hours worth of extras.

It's awesome, can't fault it. Enjoyed it more than any other Star Wars film. This trilogy will be the best no doubt ✌🏻️🇬🇧

The first half is certainly a tight film. Everything following the Order's attack on the Republic is rushed and feels more suited to a sequel.

I really hated Fin in this movie but I just can't put my finger on why I hate him so much. Near the end of the movie where he got his ass kicked, I was chanting to myself that they would let him die already. I was also expecting at least Luke reinstated the jedi order in the end but nope.

Chewbacca's death scene was really moving.

Every time I saw the jacket I said "hashtag star wars jacket speculation" under my breath. My wife got annoyed.

I was really disappointed with Kylo Ren as a villain. After reading many fan theories, I was really hoping that the big reveal would be that he was either Luke or Jar-Jar Binks, the latter of which I really wanted to see because of how much the theory makes sense and how much that would make the prequels more interesting to watch. Also, I was not intimidated by him. With the other enemies (Dooku, Grevious, Palpatine, and of course Vader), I was legitimately intimidated and thought that they posed a threat to the heroes. With Kylo, it felt like he was untrained and not even that committed to the dark side, commenting at one point that he was "tempted to the light." Also, I can't take him seriously because he loses a lightsaber battle to a person who has NEVER DUELED WITH A LIGHTSABER BEFORE! I thought it'd be much more interesting if it showed Rai barely being able to defend herself from Kylo's attacks and she is saved by the crumbling planet conveniently separating her and Kylo.

This movie was great it meet and exceeded my expectations!!! J.J. Abrams has just made another solid movie Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens was great!!! The new characters are awesome and Kylo Ren is now my favorite Star Wars villain!!!!

This film sums up this generation, no patience. EXPLOSIONS, one liners, no character development. They shifted goal posts of how the force works so they could skip character development. I hate this film. Still better than episode 6, but episode 6 had terrible pacing, this movie also had terrible pacing but not enough to put me to sleep (nearly tho) also first time I had to cover my eyes whilst watching a film, it's cringe worthy at times.

NO SPOILERS! Literally just got back from seeing it! Super fucking awesome. Every two seconds me and my friend would just look at each other open mouthed at what was going on.

SPOILERISH: What I disliked about this film was that Rey, Daisy Ridley's character had literally every skill in Star Wars. All the other characters had faults. Finn can't fly and isn't great with a saber, Poe is susceptible to mind tricks, but Rey can do everything with absolutely no formal training. Why? She is skilled in combat (which is acceptable I guess), she knows everything about machinery (which also kind of makes sense), she can use a lightsaber after never having any experience with it, she even defeats a sith lord who has trained his whole life with a lightsaber and the force, wtf. Also, she can conveniently pilot a ship, even though her character has no motivation to do so, because she has every reason not to leave Jakku, because her family could return at any moment, so why can she pilot ships? It's not like she would need ships to travel around Jakku either, because she has her speeder bike, which seems to be relatively fast. Also, she can use Jedi mind tricks, when, once again she has had no proper training. Granted it takes a number of tries to work, but why would she know about Jedi mind control in the first place? Rey's character seems like she was created just to say 'fuck you' to men, because it seems as though she cannot be faulted, which is just stupid, because every character should have weaknesses. That's what makes it enjoyable, when the character has to defeat the villain by overcoming their weaknesses. It just seems like an unfair fight if she is already more powerful than the villain. Unless Kylo didn't want to fight her because they are related or something and he feels conflicted and wonders whether Snoke is just using him.

There is an opening crawl and space scene in the beginning though, right?? Also I hope it's not like the Marvel movies, where there's tons of jokes and references to other franchises.....this is STAR WARS! A legit sci-fi series that is the referencee! The one that CREATES the references and is culturally iconic!

I just saw the movie and wow, Mr Sunday Movies is right on all accounts (jokes, chemistry, pacing, retreading, etc). I had the exact same response to everything before watching this for the first time. I'm glad I wasn't alone thinking this way.

I waited until I'd seen it to watch any reviews as I wanted to make my own judgement first. Talking to my friends afterwards, I found myself saying much the same thing as you did here. Except the Lando clapping bit. That was bloody great.

top 10 reasons this movie was not good MASSIVE SPOILER WARNING! this list will spoil the entire movie so dont read it unless you have already seen the movie or dont plan on seeing it. 10. luke has 5 mins on screen and no speaking parts. this is ranked as number 10 because it can be argued that this is one of the most artistic parts of the movie. 9. the movie starts with poe then he crashes on jaku disappears and you dont see him again until right before the final fight. it is never explained how he got off jaku or why he left bb8 and fin on jaku. 8.kylo has serious anger problems he is not a sith and that is made very clear thought the movie as when things dont go his way he breaks everything in reach of his light saber (anakin was a crybaby but kylo throws serious temper tantrums). 7. the movie ends with an attack on a massive space station built into a planet that is not the death star because as the movie points out it is bigger then the death star. 6. the movie is more or less about finding luke however at the end the only thing that the entire resistance manages to do is get one part of a map of the galaxy r2d2 does the rest while he slept for 40 years and only wakes up at the end of the movie in a blatant attempt to end the main plot in the shortest amount of time possible. 5. the movie is all the best parts of starwars. by this i mean the entire is a ripoff of every other starwars movie. 4. some examples of this is kylo ren is hans son, kylo ren is vaders grand son, rey is the chosen one, star killer base is the deathstar, starkiller base has a single point on the planet that if destroyed destroys the full planet, there are many many more including the number 1 spot on this list. 3. every thing you thought you knew about the force is wrong. in this movie the force is used to freeze people freeze blaster bolts in mid air and more. 2. han and leas relation ship (you know that thing that took 3 movies to build) is gone. the characters are broken up when kylo ren turns to the dark side and han leaves leia like a dick. 1. HAN DIES. yes han dies in the only scene that actually makes you feel any sort of emotion aside from nostalgia kylo ren kills han. kylo does something that most thought was impossible and killed the only actor to have his career survive the first 3 movies. the movie has some redeeming features but these are 10 areas that i felt ruined the overall movie.

Finn only reacts dumb, stupid and amazed in most dialog. Because he is a weak minded stomtrooper, I ques. And in his first lightsaber fight , there is an editing mistake. suddenly he has to grab the lightsaber out of a dead guys hand....? but he never lost it.

This movie seemed like a remake of the original. I'm ok with that. I really enjoyed this movie.

When I saw it in the cinema, The whole crowd was in casual wear then in walk 4 people dressed as star wars characters and they had toy lightsabres as soon as "A Long Time Ago" came up they started cheering and waving their lightsabres. When a major plot point happened the started making a load of noise and were told to leave by a member of staff...I couldn't stop laughing

IMO this confirms to me that George Lucas, other than the initial concept, didn't have much control over the making of the original Star Wars trilogy. It's when he get's himself involved is when thing start going to shit.

Just watched Star Wars last night. You touched on every minor issue I had with this movie. That said its still an immensely enjoyable film, and definitely worth a second viewing.

Note: I saw the movie in a theater with technical difficulites, there were sound problems, one sound channel was muffled so the dialogue and lightsaber/blaster sounds were noticeably in lower volume. Despite that I ENJOYED THE HECK OUT OF IT,.... well at least the first 80%. That death scene of a certain character was kinda forced in my opinion, and everything went downhill from there. I think the ending was too sequel baity for my taste, but nevertheless I would recommend seeing it. No need to rush it. 4/5

I fully agree on the comedic aspect. It seemed like it was trying to be too funny. TINY BIT OF A SPOILER AHEAD BUT NBD: especially the part where Fin is talking to Hans and he comments on him nodding his head. It just seemed unnecessary to me and was trying to be funny like the Guardians of the Galaxy. The classic kind of comedy in the previous films was usually the actions between R2 and CP and it gave off that classic Lucasfilms vibe. Another thing is that I was really surprised when the film ended, I thought it was halfway through. I think it's due to the scenes not taking a breather and having so much action as mentioned in the video. It's funny how the pace of the film gave me that impression. Anyone Agree?

I loved _The Force Awakens_. It is _almost_ as good as Episodes IV through VI. It does a lot of things better than those episodes, but because of its lack of originality, especially in regards to _A New Hope_, I think this episode in particular will be less memorable than the original trilogy. I'm hoping they'll try to do something different with the later installments while not straying too far where it no longer feels like _Star Wars_, which is a balancing act that requires a lot of efficiency to pull off. I haven't seen the prequels since their theatrical release and I was too young to remember them now in great detail, but I would rate the _Star Wars_ movies I have seen recently in this order: 1. _The Empire Strikes Back_ (A-) 2. _A New Hope_ (A-) 3. _The Force Awakens_ (B+) 4. _Return of the Jedi_ (B+)

Agree that it felt Star Wars-ey in a way that the prequels did not. This is pretty much a dead on review, almost exactly what I felt. A few more scenes could have been allowed to breathe, did much more right than wrong. Look, I saw A New Hope (or as we called it then, Star Wars) when I was six. I have seen every Star Wars movie in its original run in the theater. EP IV-VI are like your first hit of heroin. You can never have that magic back again in the way you had it as a kid. Even with having Luke, Han and Leia, C-3PO and R2-D2 in the movie. But it was pretty good.

Every joke my theater erupted but I agree with you 100% on being too "jokey" at times. Fucking A++ J.J. honestly did the best possible justice to the franchise. That being said, I am looking forward to the the 2nd one more as I loved The Empire Strikes back the best and it seems to be following a similar arc. Characters are already introduced, more things can happen, stuff is already established, can't wait. Spoilers don't ruin the experience I am already going again with different friends
