The High Republic finally gave me MY side character. People always have their one favorite side character, Like Biggs or Veers or Cobb Vanth. Me, I like Burryaga. A big friendly socially awkward wookiee with a wonderfully designed lightsaber who loves food. I love him.
I was genuinely surprised by the High Republic Adventure comic series. You'd think it would be solely for kids but in my opinion it's one of the better High Republic stories told so far, and from the looks of things may also be one of the more important stories in the long run.
High Republic isn’t perfect but it definitely doesn’t deserve the hate it gets for seemingly no reason. I like how we see Jedi before they’ve lost their way, and how everything feels so new and fresh. Thanks for covering the era so well Alex!
@@donnovandalusong266 I'm sure that era will be visited in canon some day. High republic isn't here to replace the old republic and I too long for the day when we'll get to see old republic stories in canon
I read the 3 novels, still need the comics. Into the Dark was definitely the best of three, but Light if the Jedi was incredible. I would LOVE to see that novel turned into a movie or show, animated or live action. Test of courage was good as well, but made for a younger audience and it mostly reflected that. Vernestra was good and I like that her light saber can be turned into a whip as well.
You can actually get them today if you purchased through the "Amazon Kindle" app (you don't need a Kindle). By setting your date and time on your phone to the 29th, it unlocks the books today.
So are HelloGreedo, EC Henry, EckhartsLadder, & Spacedock to. They along with Star Wars Explained don’t add to the drama that’s already been plaguing the Star Wars Fandom.
@@caljedi_master2808 on god. One of the best Star Wars channels of all time. Also one of the reasons why i still haven't left the fandom because his channel is one of the best
@@jayj3062 bro if you actually tried to read them instead of just accepting every angry rant someone gives maybe you’d find you like it. You have to try it yourself.
@@RACCorpStudios these "new" books r really good cause we dont know whats goin to happen Yh no shxt were not gonna happen😂🤦🏻♂️ And not knowin somethings gonna happen dont make them good lmao
@@RM-jq5vi yh i was on abt how he sounded like a kid giving a review idk where u got whatever tf ur talkin abt from lol thought u responded to another comment cause of how it has nothin to w what i said lol
I enjoyed the first wave very much the biggest suprise was how much I loved the Test of Courage which ended up being my favorite book out of the first phase.
I love the HR. LOTJ was great, but Into the Dark really got me hooked (and Geode was my favorite of course). Haven't checked out the comics and I don't think I will, too much money when I'm trying trying get all the books. So glad for this recap to get the comic content before my copy of rising storm comes.
I could definetely see Marchion Ro being a member of Lord Momins species, given the face that Charles Soule is author of the Vader series as well as Light of the jedi 🤔
Having gotten the newest adult book, I’m excited to see more of the High Republic. As much as I loved the first book, I can’t wait to see what the new one has to offer
“They are expanding, and inviting others to join in on their prosperity” That reads like some polished language the British empire would have used to justify their colonization of other countries. So does the High Republic ever talk about imperialism and colonialism? Doesnt have to but I’d like to see how Star Wars addresses those issues.
I also don’t like the Nial, feels like they we’re written specifically to be bad, doesn’t feel natural. They have the right to resist the republics expansion, it just feels like this is what the in-universe Coruscant text books would propagate. Which is cool but I’d like the non mythologized tales from the high republic era.
@@MLPGamer44 to be fair though the Nihil are criminals who only want to keep the Republic out in order to prey on those living in the area. I do agree that it would be interesting if they addressed the overall imperialistic tones the expansion has. Maybe have a group of peaceful protesters introduced?
@@joemullarkey5719what does the republic want to do that’s different? To me the republic has never been a “positive” for the galaxy. It reminds me of people saying that because the Soviets/Vietcong were bad, the Vietnam war and the action of the American military were justified. And I think we know how Lucas feels about that war. So it feels icky to have Star Wars doing that. And the nihil aren’t real, meaning they could have been written to not be unnecessarily violent or unethical. But the character designs and the aesthetic are perfect.
@@MLPGamer44 yeah, that’s a good point. I’m just thinking that since the Nihil are already shown the way they are it’s definitely possible another group will emerge with more noble intentions. It seems like this series will get into the Jedi and the republic losing their way so there’s definitely some story potential there.
@@joemullarkey5719 the future is always open, they can always pull switcharoo’s and the like. I guess because I’m not a big republic fan, the high REPUBLIC might not be my most favored media project 😂
@@mauriciofontes they acc that good? Ive seen them get shxt on for only 2 main things they dont know how lightsabers work and they made a rock a character oh and that the writers r far lefts so i didnt know if thatd ruin the books
@@jayj3062 the lightsaber thing only happened in a single comic panel and is was just a misunderstanding of something Ahsoka did. Geode isn't even really a main character, more of a running gag mentioned maybe once every other chapter, and the execution of the idea is better than people who never read the book realize. Both are heavily blown out of proportion for the sake of rage clickbait.
@@Oznerol3 His gag is also really solid, and he was a fan favorite of Into The Dark readers a month before the rest of the fandom found out that he existed.
It's probably not hitting screens. The point of High Republic is for the books and comics to have a space not to worry about having to wait for a movie or series to latch onto.
@@RayOfTruth I mean, if thats how you feel. More power to you. But- this is disney we’re talking about. People throught the same thing way back with the Ahsoka novel
@@jrokur551 Ahsoka is a character from a series, and that book was a tie in for Rebels. The High Republic is intentionally disconnected from movies or series so that they can have major world impacts without having to wait for a new movie to do anything on a big scale.
That is what a publishing initiative IS. Books, comics and audio dramas. Yes, there's a TV show, but it's at unrelated to this publishing initiative and chronologically taking place much, much later.
There were actually a lot of people begging for Disney to tell new stories in different eras disconnected from the Skywalker Saga, and a lot of fans have wanted to see the Jedi at their height.
@@Wolfclaw-ht7ob I think it’s really good so far. I’m about halfway through Rising Storm as we speak and my god, it may very well replace Light of the Jedi as my second favorite Star Wars book. The era just feels so fresh to me, you know?
Don't read it then, stop watching videos about it, whining that you don't like it in the comments and let the majority enjoy it without your nonsense. Simple solution, see. Peace. ✌
Firstly, what is "stop trying to monetise behaviour" even supposed to mean? Second, how am I a bigot for enjoying the HR books? GTFO here with that juvenile nonsense. Third, you can say whatever you like, but if you expect anybody to listen to, even engage with you, you're going to have to go into INFINITELY more detail in your criticism than "this bad :(" . Seriously, lmfao!!
